This diner has a huge menu with a wide variety of breakfast, Greek dishes, sandwiches, and soups — all of which were delicious! It’s very cute and clean and the staff is very friendly. Highly recommend!
I assume delivery isn't possible on Tuesday 2/24? ♥️
Now this is a class act. Super busy, super welcoming, full of authentic atmosphere, surprisingly great food and the big shocker - their coffee is fantastic. That’s not saying much in the USA where an average coffee seems roasted in an ashtray, but this one was memorably great. An extremely positive experience.
Food was excellent and my burger was perfectly cooked. The pastrami sandwich was excellent and not too salty. Both sandwiches were large and plentiful. Our server was very nice and efficient. The view of the street outside through the large windows all around the restaurant gave us a nice opportunity to watch the people walking around
Great local diner. Big portions. Great for for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Out of the way from over touristed NYC.
we love this old school style diner the service was fantastic and the food was delicious. how waiter I don't know his name he is on the overnight shift
Fast friendly service. Clean place. I hit an old school open face turkey . Is was giant it was fresh it was hot and it was the perfect comfort food for a person like me who grew up in philly and New York surviving in diner food I live in California now and you just don’t get this quality of food or service. This Diber is a must do when your i. nYc
Great location, very nice staff. Had tye western omlette. Just a touch overcooked, but still very good.
So positive, good food, great company, AND the owner gave me a free piece of cake with my coffer - what’s better than that?
We really enjoyed our brunch at Chelsea Square Diner. The place wasn’t busy when we arrived, so we got a table right away—not because it’s not a great spot, but simply because we got lucky that day. Portions were generous, and the food quality was solid. The staff was attentive, and the prices were exactly what you’d expect from a classic New York diner—neither cheap nor expensive, just right. One standout was the coffee roast, which was surprisingly delicious, something you don’t always find in diners. The eggs were also on the larger side, which was a nice touch. The diner itself has a bit of an older look, which adds to its charm. It feels like a piece of New York from the ’80s or ’90s, rather than a trendy, modern spot with loud music and flashy decor. If you’re looking for a classic diner experience in the heart of Chelsea, this place is perfect. Five stars.
This is the best restorant in new york I like food and servis
The COVID outdoor seating is amazing! Spacious with a ceiling in the Sukkot style seating or snug on the sidewalk seating it works great! Solid diner with all the things! Eating here makes me think things are normal for once in 2020. Sunday breakfast was the delicious diner breakfast we all have been missing. So glad I stumbled upon this gem of a greasy spoon
Great experience. Went in for the weekend pop-up stand through NBCSN Premier League Mornings with my friends and had a great time. It was packed for the crucial game but the staff was very polite, respectful, and energetic. Really nice environment with great food and many choices. Only catch is the food is kinda expensive but other than that I would 100% recommend you go there if you’re around.
Four of us happened across the Chelsea Square Diner today and thought we'd give it a try. As visitors to NYC it felt very authentic and the food was great, huge portions (for us English anyway) and really tasty. The staff were great fun too and very helpful. For us it was a real NY experience, thanks
I went here for a quick dinner. I ordered a cheeseburger with grilled onions and tomatoes. I was very pleased with it, it was moist , not overcooked and the onions were tasty. I really enjoyed that cheeseburger. I don't eat burgers that often, but must admit, I definitely enjoyed that cheeseburger. I will definitely consider going here again for breakfast. I love eating in diners, and this one was great. The service was very good. I definitely recommend this place to anyone, who is around Chelsea in New York City.
I just had the most perfect midnight meal ever! Broiled bacon cheeseburger with a black and white milkshake, correction milkshakeS. If you love a black and white as much as me and you’re in the vicinity of 23rd and 8th Avenue in Chelsea…. Stop by and see Mr Martine at the Chelsea Square Diner, this gentleman will set you up for a stellar late night dining experience . Straight up he mixed up a milkshake that was so perfect I didn’t feel any guilt enjoying one shake with my meal, followed by a second which I brought with me on the road. For real it was that Gooood. Thank you Martine for the excellent conversation, your music choice was perfection, your charming attention made me feel like my bad day never happened. This guy is the genuine article, people ask to be seated in his section and Bón Apetíte. Needless to say I’ll be coming back anytime I’m in the area. I’m leaving as one happy man, and I shuffled in a bit defeated by my long work day that started at 8…. And finished at 11:30. Side note, yes yes there are vegetarian options. Check out the daily soups. Wheelchair accessible and children are more than welcome. It’s a classic diner, one of the last of its kind.
It’s like an episode of Seinfeld. I was chosen to be Jerry. Cops that stand around should have to sweep with a broom. The waiter said bon appetite which is rarely heard and added great flavor to my experience. The matzoh ball soup has noodles. That doesn’t makes sense but thank you. Peppercorn is a fruit, had to look it up.
Good food, descent prices, our beautiful waitress Jasmine was so sweet and accommodating. I hope diners like these never go away
This is an Excellent and very friendly place to eat at. This was my first time there, mixed environment. Thank you guys for the great experience, Loved it.
Overhead lights were actually lit. What’s more, I was brought back to my rustic roots via thin chocolatey syrup, which I slurped and spooned from shake and cocoa, respectively. Not to mention vibrant conversation - though that might not be a given, depending on whose late night company you keep! :o
NYC diners are no longer a dime a dozen. They’re becoming an endangered species to say the least. But it’s nice to know that places like the Chelsea square diner still stick around. Delicious breakfast options with warm welcoming staff. The owner himself greeted me as I took pics of the place. Can’t wait to come back on a regular basis. Lived in the neighborhood for years but always walked past in a hurry. Won’t happen again! Bravo to these guys and hope they go on late into the nyc nights !
Me and my friends had found this place online and the second we walked in, we knew we found a fantastic spot. Our server was a sweet gentleman who greeted us and tended to us with amazing care. When we sat down the lighting was beautiful, the decorations were so fitting, and the atmosphere was so cozy. The food was brought out quick and incredible. Will be returning just for the food and Dennis we think that’s his name
Went with a large group and all the staff was extremely accommodating and nice. Helped me to sort out a confusion with the payment. Food was delicious and atmosphere was wonderful. Will be back!
Chelsea Square Diner is a staple for us—we come here almost every weekend for breakfast and it never disappoints. The pancakes are a favorite, and the biscuits and gravy are also excellent. Portions are generous, so consider splitting. Service is always friendly and attentive, and the food comes out quickly. It just feels like a classic NYC diner experience.
The Chelsea Square Restaurant in New York is a hidden gem that captures the essence of a cozy, old-fashioned diner. With its nostalgic ambiance, hearty and delicious breakfast offerings, and top-notch service, it is a must-visit for those seeking a taste of the past in the bustling heart of Manhattan. Whether you're a local looking for a comforting breakfast or a visitor in search of a genuine diner experience, this place won't disappoint. My visit left me with fond memories, and I look forward to returning to relive the nostalgia and indulge in more delightful breakfasts in the future.
Chelsea square is a really nice diner with a great and delicious breakfast. I had the fluffiest pancakes I’ve ever had. The place is welcoming, the staff is friendly and attentive, and the owner clearly takes pride in the place and appears to see everyone that comes in as his personal guest. Very recommend!
My friends and I work at The Shed on 30th St, and we needed a place to eat between shifts that wasn't too formal yet wasn't too pedestrian. Chelsea Square was recommended by one of the girls who lives in the neighbourhood, and she raved about the hamburgers in particular. I always go for a quality burger and it turned out she was right! The dishes my other friends got were delicious as well. (As well as the Mimosa our other fem friend ordered!) Chelsea Square will most likely be the regular eatery of us Shedders from now on!
I ate here a few times during a week-long stay in NYC, since it was on the same block as my hotel. The atmosphere here is very cute, and the service was mixed. The food here is exactly what you would expect from a 24 hour diner. The breakfast was pretty good. I had a club sandwich on another visit that was a little bland, but the portions were generous. The slice of red velvet cake we got to go tasted like fridge.
It’s a nice spot if your a foodie or looking for a spot to eat. They have a ton of food options and markets here. As for shopping I’d say pass. It’s more of an over priced swap o rama. But the atmosphere was beautiful. It was freezing the day we were visiting so it was a welcomed break from the cold. I would return if I’m ever in the neighborhood.
Great place for the traditional New York diner experience; very local and with a rich history. The staff are prompt, attentive, and friendly and the menu is as deep as you’d expect from a diner. Portions are generous and the prices are reasonable. Definitely worth checking out at any time of day (it’s open 24hrs) for a taste of old New York.
It's great, but it's SO expensive. I got an omelette which came with hash browns and toast-- $35 after tax, tip, and fees!!! The chorizo omelette was very tasty. Staff was kind. I would go again, but only occasionally because of the price. The reason is there are other high-end restaurants where I could have a fancier meal for a similar price, but that said I did still enjoy the food and the experience.
really nice people with good food for a 24 hour spot!!!
Went for breakfast at 9 AM on a Saturday. Off the beaten path enough to avoid the Christmas tourist crunch Had traditional breakfast food, which was excellent. No wait for a table however, as we were eating, a crowd started to build. Prices were a bit high, but not crazy.
Pancakes were great, as everything else! However the portions are too huge for a normal person making me leave half of the plate untouched. That’s a shame since the prices are not small either.
Super nice place! I went on a Wednesday morning and a very nice man greeted us. We got pancakes and eggs w bread and hash browns etc. We also got lattes which was good too. My pancakes were so big that I couldn’t finish them unfortunately but the were so spongy and full but still light in a way. Everything was quite reasonably priced! Definitely a chill place to eat in the morning :) They had SOOOO many options for lunch and dinner as well as for breakfast/brunch
I had a great breakfast at Chelsea Square Diner with my wife. The place is cozy & clean, with friendly staff & fast service. They were very accommodating to my needs as a mechanical wheelchair user, & made sure I had enough space & comfort. I ordered the Mexican Omelete, which was served with chorizo, jalapeños, and cheddar cheese. It was spicy, cheesy, and filling. I washed it down with a good cerveza called All Day IPA, which was refreshing and hoppy. The portion was generous and the price was reasonable. I would definitely come back and try more dishes from their extensive menu. A New York city diner is an experience and a good one is open 24 hours. Chelsea Square Diner is one of those good ones that you don't want to miss. Salud!🍻
The service was kinda slow and the prices are steep for a dinner. It’s nice though that it’s 24 hours. I got the veggie burger deluxe which was $18. It was a decent burger. My friends got ice cream and a fruit salad and they thought that was pretty good. It looked like they had a bunch of pies and cakes out so those might be worth the visit.
6/18 light dinner night, i had a bowl of the beef barley soup- really good. Stuffed grape leaves (you get 9 for $10) they were good and wrapped tight. A few Greek olives too. The GF wanted pancakes - good. 5/31/25 brunch time! Still great food. Me and the GF, both got Western egg sandwiches ($8), turkey sausage ($9), coffee ($4 free refills) and rice pudding ($6) still good & perfect size for sharing if your 'forced to' ;) CC payment fee fyi. 12/21/24 back again for breakfast. Seems like new owners... All prices are up about $1 from the menu i posted a few months ago. I didn't get a chance to take new pics. Me and the GF had Western egg Sammies. Turkey sausage on the side (3 big reds for $9) and rice pudding for dessert. All good. 11/15/19 update: had the mussels marinara (on special), not too bad for a diner. Always good, always a fun spot. Soups are good, rice pudding is good, pancakes are good and the turkey sausage is good too. Coffee..... Yes, free refils, more please.
Look, it's a 24 hour diner which does the biggest portions known to man even by US standards. HOWEVER, the service is fantastic - everyone was super friendly and lovely, and chatty. We had so much fun there. The chicken parmgiana sandwich was pretty good as was the Matzo ball soup. They do great wine! For €30 we got a bottle of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Also got slices of Pumpkin Pie, which was really good. For a late night feast, this is 100% the place to go.
Sometimes, Basic is what you need. Good diner. Mostly empty at 9am on a Saturday. Service is fast, efficient and relatively friendly. They don’t rush you. Pastrami was standard. Coffee was weak. I get the feeling all the food here is exactly what you expect from a Manhattan diner. Sometimes, that’s all you really want.
Prices are ridiculous for very basic food. We had 2 Orange Juices (which were really good) and 2 breakfast dishes. In total we paid 103$, including 20% tip. By far the most basic but expensive breakfast we have had.
Got their specials: Matzah ball soup, Brisket, and Goulash. The brisket is so good and flavorful. Served with potatoes of your choice and I got us french fries which was perfectly fried. The goulash tasted mild, enough spice for American taste (as an asian I could use more but its fine). The matzah ball was good too. Also got the yankee beans soup, fresh and comforting. Milkshake was great! Portions were HUGE. It was 5 of us and I think the total bill was 100$ish which is okey.
Prices increased exhorbitantly but portion sizes are plentiful. A staple of Chelsea that is catering to upper middle class individuals. Outgoing orders have been inaccurate lately so check your food order before the delivery person leaves your door.
Came here with a group of friends after a late night ice hockey game at the Skyrink on Chelsea Piers. Menu was very simple for a diner (I'm used to the massive NJ diner menus) and not looking to spend too much, I opted for a bacon cheeseburger with mango habeñero chicken tenders to share. One of the other patrons ordered chocolate chip pancakes. When the food came, they brought her a chocolate shake (not chocolate chip pancakes) and the mango habeñero never came either, instead we received buffalo sauce, which was the only other option for the chicken tenders. Not wanting to send another item back, we chose to just eat the buffalo chicken tenders. I do feel the burger was decent, large and compared to other menu items, I felt was fairly priced. Some other items I thought were pretty high ($22 for 4 chicken tenders and French fries). I understand...it's NYC prices, but this is also a diner, not an upscale eatery. I've spent less on very nice sushi rolls than those chicken tenders, so if I'm using that as a measuring stick, I did feel many items were over priced. For a late night meal after a game (and everything else is closed)...it fits the bill. But if anything else is open, I'd personally eat elsewhere.
They add 3 eggs in your eggs benefits or omelette to make you feel better bc their breakfasts are around 22$-$23each. That is pretty high for diner price. The French toast was also 21$. The eggs and spinach have no flavor. I had to add my own seasonings the hollandaise seems and taste homemade by an amateur. No taste! The syrup they provide is the cheap high fructose corn syrup. It’s ok if you want to be full but the food overall is probably not fresh or healthy. Fries were pale, not fried all the way. Possibly just out of the freezer. They make you pay your bill at the cashier and they don’t let you choose your tip %. They will ask you out loud “how many % tip?” Quantity over quality kind of place.
Honestly this place is overpriced below average. It was very disappointing. I ordered pancakes that were the driest I’ve ever had. 19$ for pancakes worth $1.50. Do not waste your time here. Better off going to Grey Dog that has a much better breakfast plate(pancakes, eggs, meats) that costs less surprisingly. This is my 3rd time here over 5 years and I’ve always been disappointed. Note to management. Taste your own food and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Look at what other restaurants do.
Decent food and good portions. But I find the food to be bit more pricey than average - one omelette and coffee cost me $26.50 plus tax. At the end, the cashier asked me if if I wanted to add 20% tip (on the total after tax) in a suggestive tone instead of presenting me the keypad to enter the tip myself, so I found that a bit wierd. I don't think I'll be going back.
It was a strange experience. Service was not very good but the food was okay, like a typical diner food. I ordered California Health Salad and it was just three bowls: one with jello, one with cottage cheese and one with fruit. I haven’t expected that. It felt like it needed assembling.
I felt compelled to leave a review because this was one of the most disappointing diner experiences I’ve had. I had to send my burger back after just one bite—something I’ve never done before—but the server wouldn’t allow a replacement and didn’t even ask why I couldn’t eat it. I ended up ordering another meal, the fish and chips, which strangely came on three burger buns. It’s a shame because the diner itself has a nice interior, great music, and a good Chelsea location. They really just need to improve their food quality and service.
Had to leave this review because I've never had such disappointing diner food before. I had to send back my burger after one bite (I've never sent food back before) and the server didn't allow us to replace it. He didn't even ask why I couldn't eat it. So I had to order an extra meal (which was fish and chips that for some reason came on 3 burger buns...?). It's a shame because the diner has nice interior, plays great music, and is in Chelsea. They just need to fix their food and service standards.
The food looked like it already laid there for a hour. The Omlette was burned and the chilli was just meat without any vegetables and in such a thick consistency that you can’t eat it. The cake was powder and not fresh baked what you would expect for the price. We didn’t eat it and we are not coming back
What a big waste of Money!‼🚽 The food had no taste at all Chinken and waffles saggy, where you get wings like this off a pigeon📣 Philly cheese steak just no taste. The fries was the worst, If you can't make something simple as fries you need to Shut down.🚫⚠️☢🚮💩 Bread wasn't toasted. Never going there again. Everything went in the garbage where it belonged... 🚮
Ordered a Greek salad with grilled chicken and they forgot my fete cheese. I called back and asked them to send my feta cheese and when it got here the plate was smashed up and open. For the prices we pay this establishment they need to have better service and much better delivery persons. What a pitty. Needs an update and a much better food taste horrible.
Prices are out of control, for a simple dinner experience…. In what world eggs Benedict are almost $30 bucks. They need a reality check…insanity!
I give a 1 star because my sister's plate had a hair in the food. She saw it when she was almost done. We also had to wait a long time before getting our meal. Other than that, I had a nice experience. My plate was good, although the pouch eggs of the Benedicts plate were hard. The sausages were good tho. Quesadillas were good too. Generous portions overall. Dine-in on the street only. The ambience was nice.
The server greeted us with an attitude and rolled her eyes and sighed before we said a word to her. We asked for a latte, and she got us a strong macchiato. We then asked for eggs Benedict with home fries, and she brought us something nauseating-looking with hot sauce instead of ketchup (actual photos attached). We requested to speak to the manager, but instead were asked to leave our number; however, they never called. To top it off, on the way out, they had the hutzpah to ask us for a tip.
Really sad experience: I’ve come here for years. My experience tonight was AWFUL. My guest was served way before me. When asked why, server and silver-haired manager had ZERO explanation. Considering there were only two other tables in a nearly empty restaurant, really embarrassing to offer extremely poor service. Both server and manager blamed kitchen. Go elsewhere!!!
Love the split pea soup and have been a long time customer at Chelsea Square. Today 1/14/24 , ordered some take out food and now I know what is that special seasoning, (Roach droppings). I was waiting for my food and saw a good size roach crawling on the frother machine. I mention to worker and manager, and let's hope they get an exterminator. Then, I ordered a cheese burger and who makes a cheese burger with no lettuce or tomato. Just cheese...
I wasted 50 minutes of my time, traveling to go to this supposed “amazing diner” and all I was left with was disappointment. First I ordered a soup which apparently included paper towels in my soup. This was absolutely disgusting. How did no one notice the clump of paper sitting in my soup? I spent $32 dollars on the worst milk shakes I have ever had. They tasted like they were purely ice with no ice cream. Have no idea how you fumble making a milkshake but they did. For my entrée I had a burger which was incredibly bland and distasteful. Tasted more like fake lunch meat. The whole experience was awful and I will never be stepping foot in this restaurant ever again. I would advise you to do the same because it’s a waste of your time, money, and energy.
I came to Chelsea Square dinner and unfortunately had a really bad experience. Our server was extremely rude to us the entire time. The food also needed more salt, but honestly the worst part was the service. This guy completely ruined the night for me and my girl. I won’t ever come back because of the way we were treated, btw his name was German I’ve seen him a couple times had came for business to the city, talked to the owner the other day is a very nice guy he shouldn’t let this happen too often.
I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. Our server, German, was extremely rude and showed very poor customer service from the moment we sat down. He served water without even asking if we wanted any, which already gave us a bad impression. What concerned me the most was seeing him prepare my salad with his bare hands without washing them. That is completely unacceptable for any restaurant. On top of that, he didn’t listen to what my family wanted to order and brought out what he said instead of what we actually asked for. This made us all feel uncomfortable and unhappy with our visit. Overall, this was not the experience we expected, and I hope the management takes these issues seriously and improves both the service and hygiene standards.
