Opinions de DOMODOMO New York
Domodomo New York exceeded all my expectations! From the moment I walked in, the staff greeted me with warm smiles and genuine hospitality. Every dish we tried was bursting with flavor—each bite more delightful than the last. The presentation was beautiful, and it was clear that great care went into every detail. Our server anticipated our needs, offered thoughtful recommendations, and made us feel truly welcome. If you’re looking for an unforgettable dining experience in NYC, Domodomo is the place to go!
Sleek NoHo Japanese gem—DOMODOMO delivered a fantastic lunch! Food was outstanding: spicy tuna crispy rice crunchy and addictive with perfect heat, wagyu tataki tender and beautifully seared, uni hand roll creamy and briny, and a classic toro nigiri melt-in-your-mouth fresh. Everything tasted premium and balanced. Service was polished, attentive, and friendly—great pacing. Atmosphere is modern and chic—dim lighting, elegant wood accents, cozy yet upscale energy—perfect for a special lunch or date.
Visited Domodomo again after a while and it was wonderful. The Domokase was fresh, well-balanced, and full of flavor. The sushi and hand rolls have always been excellent, and the sea bass was incredibly delicious. Everything was so good that I was too busy enjoying the food to take photos! We also tried the uni pasta, Korean chicken, and cucumber salad — all were amazing and highly recommended. The staff were very friendly and explained each dish, which made the experience even better. Great food and service 👍
Came to Domodomo for dinner and it was amazing. Every piece of sushi was fresh, appetizers were delicious, even down to the dessert. Service was a 5/5 also, the staff was very friendly, answered all questions we had about the menu and food. All around a great experience, will be coming back to here often
I really enjoyed this restaurant and it was the perfect place to meet up with old friends (domodachi!). We had the domokase and the waiter recommended a nice sake. I liked everything but my favorite was the Wagyu Carpaccio. The staff was friendly and attentive and the decor was beautifully understated.
I'm a fan of this spot. It's definitely incredible value without compromising on quality. Ordered the sushi & handroll course and it was excellent. It's not the same caliber of sushi that you would get at a fancy omakase restaurant, but it's for sure at least one or two notches above the regular generic sushi spots. The staff is super attentive too. Would recommend if you're in the neighborhood.
Had a great dinner here last night! The octopus appetizer was really well done - tender and not chewy at all, with nice charred flavor. Good start to the meal. Sushi was fresh and high quality. The tuna was buttery, salmon was clean tasting, but branzino was my best pick. You can tell they know what they’re doing with the fish. Also got some hand rolls - the uni one was creamy and rich, and they had an interesting wagyu roll that actually worked really well. Nori was crisp. Everything was nicely presented and tasted great. It’s on the pricier side but the quality matches. Service was good too. Would go back for sure, especially for the sushi. Good spot for a nice dinner out.
Had an amazing experience at Domodomo! The food was incredibly fresh and full of flavor✨Every bite felt special! I especially loved how beautifully everything was prepared. The atmosphere is stylish, making it perfect for a night out. On top of that, the service was outstanding. The staff was attentive, friendly, and made sure everything was perfect. Definitely a spot I’ll come back to!
Fresh, flavorful fish. Came here for mother's day and it was a wonderful experience! The atmosphere is calm and enjoyable, and the waiters were very knowledgeable about the menu. CHEF'S SET: We got the chef's set of 9 pieces of sushi. Each piece was beautifully cut, paired with perfect flavors (some had yuzu and scallion additions), and a decent price considering the quality. If you can get your hands on their butterfish (I think that's what it's called), do it. The fish just melts in your mouth and I could have ordered 10 more of them. In the end, I ordered 2 extra scallop, 2 extra salmon, and 2 extra butterfish. HAND ROLLS: We also got their scallop, salmon, and snow crab hand rolls. I'd recommend all of them, though the scallop was my favorite. UNI PASTA: The pasta was decent. There wasn't as much uni as I expected so I wouldn't get it again, but it was still a cool experience to eat the squid ink pasta. SALMON AVOCADO APPETIZER: I can't tell if they still have this on the menu but this was a great starter. All of their fish is so fresh and the salmon is no exception! The yuzu ponzu is fresh and flavorful.
this place was great! definitely a good place to try omakase for the first time. you’ll get a good taster of different kinds of fish but also a lot of great staples. fun flavors too. so if you’re looking for a good first try this is amazing and it is good for your 100th time too, it’ll be good classic. the side orders are also great especially the cauliflower :) also the miso black cod goes CRAZYYY so good pictured: cauliflower, sushi and rolls selection
The domokaze menu is very delicious. Everything tastes super fresh and high quality. 1/2 of the dishes are fun, unique, and creative, while half are just high quality versions of staples. The dessert is really good. I loved both the tiramisu (which is actually ice cream??) and the sesame custard. The vibes are great. You can get a reservation week-of, but not day-of most of the time. VERY gluten-free friendly. There was one thing in a waffle cone, but otherwise it’s gluten free. If you’re going to order a la carte, I’d recommend 1) the eel hand roll, 2) the mushroom hand roll (trust), 3) the uni sushi, 4) the white fish sushi, 5) dessert Main downsides: - some of the super high quality sushi had large chunks of wasabi underneath, which really overwhelmed the taste of the fish. Honestly no clue why they did that. - the servers do a great job of explaining the dishes, but they speak very quietly and so we couldn’t really hear them. - I would say it’s slightly overpriced. After tax and tip, 2 ppl tasting menu came out to $250 USD. Was it $250…? Not sure. It was a birthday gift and I was so thrilled with it as a gift, but wouldn’t pay that myself. - the hand roll part of the tasting menu is super confusing. It’s only extra $ for certain options, not all options.
Easily the best dining experience of my life! I am not a sushi person, so I ordered quick and easy fried chicken which was like a michelin level of korean fried chicken with a delectable soy glaze. The point here I want to make is that the sushi was so good that, knowing the price, my party had to order seconds of the oysters and Uni. As I said in the beginning, although I am not a sushi person, the presentation of the food, the flavor of the food, the atmosphere, the knowledge and care of the wait staff, and more made this easily my favorite dining experience of all time!
No frills, really really good food. Not swanky or anything, you’re there to eat. All parts of the menu are good, the apps, nigiri and the hand rolls. Fish quality was super high. Favorites were the King Salmon nigiri and the Miso cod, Korean Fried Chicken and actually my drink the Watermelon Cooler, if you remotely like watermelon try it. It’s appropriately priced, ended up being $200/PP but we did eat a good amount. I did not do the Domokase, I would go back for it.
My family and I embarked on a culinary adventure at this delightful modern sushi spot! We opted for the $89 Domokase experience. Lover of their minimalist presentation, each plate was bursting with flavors. The Miso Black Cod, tender and subtly sweetened, was a standout dish. The nigiri selection was exceptional, showcasing impeccably fresh fish paired with innovative seasoning combinations - a particularly memorable pairing was the Branzino with shiso pesto. For dessert, the matcha ice cream was a perfect finale to our meal. Overall, our experience at Domo Domo was truly exceptional, and we're already looking forward to our next visit.

This was our first trip to Domodomo, but not the last one. The Omakase was perfect, the sushi was a great combination of a range of seafood and the handrolls were worth the visit alone.
The atmosphere and service was great, but I felt the sushi was a bit off. Not quite the quality I expected compare to other places, but everything else was great. My favorite was the black cod. The set isn’t too pricey as well. Overall, a fun experience and the cocktails were also great !
Great spot for good sushi. We ordered the sushi hand roll service. I liked the variety of the 10 pieces of sushi. We enjoyed all of the courses. We also ordered the yellowtail ceviche which came as delicious nice thick cuts. The service was great. Staff is very pleasant and attentive. The interior seating is nice and they have some outdoor seating in the back as well. I would recommend stopping here.
The lunch sushi and hand roll special was $40 and was pretty delicious. The fish was fresh and had really good texture, but I didn’t get that much flavor from the fish— I felt like the fish was more mellow than normal, and it was overshadowed by the flavors they added to the sushi. But overall, it was quite enjoyable and for a good price! The ambience and service is also wonderful :)

Good and maybe rate higher if I’d known how and what to order. No help from server. We ordered Unagi handroll and Karaage. No idea the Unagi was a bite size roll and thinking we’d get a sushi …
I came to DOMODOMO with high expectations, especially since it has received Michelin recognition for several years in a row. Unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing. I ordered several hand rolls, including Spicy Salmon with ichimi and fried potato chips, Salmon with sesame seed, Spicy Yellowtail with furikake and lime pepper, Negi Toro with scallion, Oyster Mushroom with seaweed crunch, Miso Black Cod with kabocha purée and pickled mustard seed, Blue Crab with garlic butter and mayo, and the Lobster roll. On paper, the combinations sounded creative and exciting, but the execution was a letdown. Every hand roll I received came wrapped in seaweed that was soft and soggy rather than crisp. Because the seaweed had been exposed to air for too long, the texture and freshness were completely gone. A proper hand roll should have warm rice, fresh filling, and crispy seaweed that cracks when you bite into it — here, none of that was present, and the flavors completely fell flat. I also tried the Eggplant Katsu, which was very heavy and oily. The breading absorbed too much oil, and without dipping it into the sauce provided, it was nearly inedible. It lacked the delicate balance that this dish should have. As for sushi, I sampled one piece, and the vinegar flavor in the rice was overwhelmingly strong. The balance between rice and fish was missing, and the fish itself didn’t shine at all. For a restaurant that has held Michelin recognition, I was genuinely surprised by how weak the flavors were. The only positives were the good service and pleasant atmosphere. The staff were attentive and friendly, and the space itself has a nice modern vibe. However, when the food doesn’t deliver, it’s hard to overlook everything else. I honestly don’t understand how this restaurant continues to receive Michelin accolades year after year. Overall, I left feeling disappointed and would not return. I was expecting a standout hand roll experience, but instead, I found myself questioning the reputation of the restaurant. If anyone is a fan of DOMODOMO, I would truly appreciate recommendations on what to order, because based on my experience, none of the dishes lived up to the hype.
I really wanted to love this restaurant and tried really hard to enjoy and see the vision of the place. Perhaps I would have fared better if I would have had select dishes from the a la cart but I opted for the smaller omakase. At 49$ it is not expensive but it is the smaller one and the larrger one is 89$. They started with salmon tataki on guacamole like avocado and while this could have been an okay start there was a fish bone in my food. A large one too. This for a michelin bib resto is completely insane even I could have seen it if I looked properly before biting my fish. Moving on the the 9 fish selection nigiri there was a lot of rice strongly seasoned and I couldnt find the fish. The two salmon and two tuna tasted the same though one was meant to be a different type of salmon and a fatty and lean tuna. The negi toro handroll also just tasted like chopped plain lean tuna not fatty toro chuncks. The handrolls were big but again mostrly rices and failed to have anything more than a supermarket handroll… I have to admit that the drink was yummy and the ambiance while very cold in here was lovely. The service was welcoming though there was one lady who seemed not to know what fish was what for a little sec, and my complaint was argued with at first and tried to be justified not rectified. Finally the solution for a complementary meal was suitable but with limited time in nyc I wish I had had my supper elsewhere tonight. Too bad because I love sushi and this was an exciting experience I was hoping for. Perhaps I will one day return to give them a second chance in a few years but not any time soon

So the last time I was here, it was during covid and it was honestly amazing! Sadly this time I was very disappointed. I came here today with my family and we ordered two uni pastas, 1 order of the salmon truffle salt sushi, 1 unagi foie gras hand roll, 1 order of the salmon tuna crostini., and 2 regular hand rolls for my kids. The salmon truffle sushi was such a disappointment, it tasted more like smoked salmon that you put on your bagel. The unagi foie gras was a complete joke, not how they used to make it. The salmon tuna crostini had zero flavor. It’s like they cut the raw fish and served it to you as is. Last but not least, what a huge disappointment was the uni pasta dish. It wasn’t creamy at all, and the uni was overly tourched. And they didn’t offer to take anything from the bill. They did offer us dessert, and I chose three, but then they came back and said they can only do two desserts not three when we had 5 people with us and they didn’t clarify that when asking us in the beginning. So I said no thank you, and that was that. Never coming back here again. It’s not what it used to be. And they don’t care.
We ordered sushi for around $100 and the food arrived warm, which is completely unacceptable for sushi. I called the restaurant right away, but the customer service was terrible, they didn’t offer any help and just told me to contact Uber. The sushi was so warm that I’m genuinely worried I might get sick from the few pieces I ate. Very disappointing experience. I expected much better for the price.
Awful service and fishy sushi. Hostess refused to seat us claiming there were no openings and said nothing when I made the reservation on resy and got the same table she said wasn’t open. The waitress gave us our water 10m after being seated then didn’t take our order for another 15m. The couple next to us came after us and was out before us. She was very attentive and talkative with the other patrons, but aside from asking us how everything was, she didn’t give us the same energy. She placed the platter of sushi on top of our soy sauce saucer and didn’t acknowledge it. As we tried to clean it up as it got all over our seats, she passed by and gave us an extra napkin (singular) and took away one of the dirty ones. She made no attempt to clean up the mess she made or offer us a new chair that wasn’t dripping in soy sauce. Every piece of salmon was extremely fishy. The rest of the sushi was truly so lackluster and clearly not worth the price. The pieces were smaller than the rice and for the price, I expected a much larger amount piece for each. Aside from the appetizers and udon, nothing lived up to the hype. Expensive prices for such small portions and bad quality fish. Not surprised they didn’t win the bib again. She also offered every other table dessert, but just gave us our check and walked away without saying a word. Will not return.
