Opinions de Don Ceviche New York
I got a great takeout lunch from Don Ceviche in Essex Market. The pollo saltado was flavorful; the spicy green sauce was one of the most delicious hot sauces I’ve ever tasted. Service was pleasant and the food was ready in less than ten minutes.
Love their half chicken with 2 sides I always choose rice n salad but you can get beans fries etc
This place never miss!!! My 5 yr old hates takeout-- even mcdonald's... so its fair to say she's a picky eater. But when it comes to don ceviche, we love it! Our go to is the combo lima. Always fresh, always consistent. I usually call for takeout, they ALWAYS answer and get it right each time. Literally no complaints. This place is a gem that you can always count on.
Great experience! We were walking around lower Manhattan on a Sunday and decided to walk 18 min extra to this restaurant. The area is not the best but I stil decided to give it a shot. The waiter was super nice and attentive . Is very small place , very clean and great atmosphere.. but the food is something else!! Best Lomo Saltado I’ve ever tried, at least in USA .. as a Peruvian native, I have to congratulate the chef and owner.. it brought me back memories from childhood, the taste, home made from scratch flavors, delicious! Thanks! 🙏🏻
If you are ever feeling under the weather and want soup, this is the spot. My daughter loves their soup as well. I remember buying a small and I regret not buying a large. I come here at least twice a week. They also give you lemon on the side already squeezed out. Their chicken is top tier! I believe their price are VERY reasonable for a city located grab and go. I’ve had their mix ceviche and it’s very good. I RECOMMEND
I can't day enough good things about here. Just chicken done right. The flavor seasoning is makes the skin so succulent. We combine it with the chicken fried rice just to have more of that chicken because we can't have enough! And their green sauce. Just the right amount of spice to wake up your tongue and then slap it with flavor joy. The staff are always so nice and awesome to interact with making their booth a pleasure every time to swing by. Doesn't hurt they're also situated in what I refer to as my food triangle in the Essex Market being next to Shopsin's and my Porto Rico coffee.
One of my favorite go to lunch and quick dinner spots. The ceviche is so fresh and delicious. The portions are hearty and everything is super fresh. My favorite is the mixed ceviche and if you take it to go and put it over mixed greens it makes the perfect healthy dinner. The yucca fries are also amazing and the green sauce is addicting. I’ve met the owner many times and he’s super lovely which makes me appreciate the food even more. They’re opening another spot in east village which I’m sure will be just as great. This place is a must if you love ceviche/Peruvian food
If I could give Don Ceviche more stars I happily would! Located at the Essex Market in The Lower East Side while on a layover in NYC. It was a really cool stall in the market that definitely gave me Mercado de Lima vibes with the colourful menu boards ! Soooo many great options to choose from. I was greeted by owner and chef Lenin who helped me decide on what to order. I settled on the Lomo Saltado and let me tell youuu, Don Ceviches did not disappoint 🤩 The portion was generous and I especially loved the cream de aji that was just the perfect amount of spicy! They are opening a restaurant soon and I cannot wait to visit again and order ceviche and do the whole Don Ceviche experience! Thank you Lenin and Don Ceviche Team
My husband is from Peru and craving for some ‘authentic’ Peruvian food for a while. This place is seriously legit! My husband cooked lomo salotado himself so we went for ceviche and chufa, and they were soooooo good. Hadn’t have this quality of Peruvian food for a while! I highly recommended this place!
Don Ceviche at Essex Market: A Love Letter with Conditions (Corn Redemption + Tiger’s Roar Edition) Waltzed into Don Ceviche expecting seafood enlightenment. Left with a ceviche that’s still in therapy. Ordered the mixed ceviche with a side hustle of fried calamari and a purple corn juice that looked like it could headline a goth kombucha rave. First sip of the juice, majestic. Hibiscus vibes with a confidence that says “I meditate, but I also party.” The ceviche? Mixed, both emotionally and literally. Came with two types of corn: the white kind was good, clean, bright, behaving itself. Then its hardened cousin showed up, dried? Roasted? Just hard and chalky enough to make me check if I still had dental coverage. A real distraction from an otherwise solid dish. What truly held the plate together was the leche de tigre. An impeccably bold trifecta of acidity, spices and heat—sharp enough to wake your palate, complex enough to make you pause mid-bite and reassess your life choices. It’s the kind of zing that doesn’t shout, it smolders. The calamari? Like a rom-com supporting character, doesn’t demand attention but ends up stealing the show. Crispy, tender, and suspiciously perfect. The service? So forgettable I briefly wondered if the register was run by AI. (No offense, I’d never ghost you like that.) Seating is upstairs. Would I return? Yes. I’m emotionally invested and curious, hoping that next time, the ceviche shows up with less corn, more seafood and the same thrilling tiger’s milk energy.
First time here and we enjoyed the food. Chicken was good and we had rice and beans for sides. The green sauce here is a little too mayonnaise based however good. We had the fries and franks and they were prefectly hot just a little too salty. The mixto ceviche was nice however for $2 for avocado it was the tiniest amount and not a lot of seafood. It did taste good. Didn’t see this was a take away place before getting there and we did sit upstairs which was fine. Overall we did enjoy it.
It was our first time at Don Ceviche and we had fish ceviche and half rotisserie chicken. The food was ok, ceviche portion was smaller than the other dish and I wasn’t that impressed like I thought I was going to be. However the alfajor was yummy. I guess I might try again next time we visit NYC.
I used to pay $18 for this plate and now it $22 with tax and service charge. I understand there’s inflation, but what’s good with the portion being so little now.
This is the second time we visited Don Cebiche, to get a second chance to the lomo saltado, the meet was overcooked, the rice sticky. The arroz chaufa taste more near to a chaufa de mariscos. We liked the cebiche, we can recommend it. And the green spicy salsa the best.
Terrible experiencia! Prácticamente te obligan a dejar propina cuando es una máquina de AUTOSERVICIO, muy independiente de que si la comida es buena. Esto es un abuso! I asked if I could pay with Apple Pay, and the cashier said no. He told me that if I wanted to pay by card, I had to order through the self-service machine. That machine then asks for a tip, even though there is no service at all. It’s just a sneaky way to take more money from customers. Very dishonest business practice. I will never come back.
I ordered a lomo saltado plus a beef chaufa on the side and the Chaufa price is $17 and lomo is $18 and it’s ridiculous how they serve their dishes the lomo portion looks decent,so next time you go there think twice before you order a chaufa .oh by the way the food is not good at all the chaufa tasted like it have to much sesame oil and the lomo don’t tasted like a Peruvian lomo .
