I tried the food here several years ago and I've been hooked. I usually order from this restaurant for our annual holiday party and everyone always raves about their food. Lydia has always accommodated our requests.

This is the place to go when you're in the mood for some delicious Spanish food! All of the favorites, served with rice and beans or tostones, maduros, ensalada or yuca. I'm a regular.

First time my family and I had the pleasure of trying Puerto Rican food, and I'm so happy I chose this place for our first time! Passion fruit juice was good, and the mofongo with pernil was everything I could've hoped for. I tried some of the pescado empanizado my mom ordered, and it was soft and perfectly cooked. The service was warm and inviting❤️ can't wait to come back next time I'm in NYC For full transparency, our bill came out to $104 before tip for 4 people. Not bad at all!

I almost felt bad about leaving a 3 star review until I noticed that most of the other reviewers are from out of town and may not be aware that there's better food of its kind out there. El Caribeño is probably one of the first Latin restaurants I'd ever been too and I've seen it dwindle down over the years or then again maybe my palette has just grown to like other Latin cuisine as I've tried other places! But I think it's the former. The baked chicken for example was once a juicy, nice & hefty piece and the lunch special would run you about $5.50. Now it's a small quarter of a leg, tasteless, and just mediocre at best. Not to mention $8. They don't even toast and butter the bread anymore, instead they just toss a stale piece in. Their oxtails were good from what I can remember but they didn't even have them today and I can always remember there not being enough (3-4 per order). The rice and beans are also quite basic. The ladies behind the counter -- well, lets just say there's nothing special about the service. Sadly I've begun to treat this place like most Chinese restaurants nowadays. I'll just grab food if I'm indecisive, busy, not up to cooking or don't want to travel too far - but I wouldn't go out of my way or crave this food. Unfortunately those days are over.

El Nuevo Carribeño is a great part of East Harlem, food is great, well priced, and served in huge platters. Service is always prompt and pleasant. Best lunch specials around. My family is great friends with the owner, we’ve been coming by since we’ve moved into El Barrio.

Went here on impulse as we were starving before heading to Museum of the City of New York. Service was excellent, food was of excellent quality and generous portion. Must try in Harlem.

Went there after an event at the Museo del Barrio. The food was great and so was the service...really nice people. I had the roast chicken and my friend had the Cubano sandwich…lots of food and tasty. I ended up bringing home most of the chicken because filled up on the delicious beans & rice side. Wish I lived closer.

Pure delight!!! I've been coming here since the late 80's early nighties. My daughter who is soon to be 39 have been coming to this establishment since she was about 5 years old. My son's earliest rembrance are of the wonderful times we shared in this establishment.

We LOVE El Nuevo Caribeño! The church I go to gathers on 107th, just a couple blocks up from this place. Great food, delish white rice, pork chops on point… and the sweet service! Check them out and tell them LA IGLESIA / THE CHURCH sent you! Enjoy!

Didn't expect it but, El Nuevo Caribeño was certainly magnificent. I am impressed, El Nuevo Caribeño was really extremely good. I can honestly say El Nuevo Caribeño is remarkable. Yummy menu items at very good prices, fantastic mood to unwind at. It's charming and every one who works here looks like they are really proud of it. Flavorful menu items at friendly prices, fantastic ambience to unwind at. Every single thing was fresh, flavorsome, and really yummy. They have a lovely menu too. Every thing that we purchased was incredibly fresh and tasty. And also, the service was wonderful and the staff was really pleasant. Every one was really courteous. They have a lunch special that they serve all day, the portions of small. So you can't share. The regular meals in the manual large portions that you can share, the food is delicious well-prepared. The service is outstanding, and the atmosphere is always busy but lively. I'm glad that I could post this because I've been there twice, on my birthday with my daughter had a great time and just recently with a friend. We all enjoyed the food here and the atmospheres great 👍

Great service and experience eating here. We liked the oxtail and also the stew sauce (we had ordered steak with onions but it felt dry, so we asked for some sauce and got the stew sauce, which was delicious). Generous side dishes, looked more like a full dish of plantains/french fries. The place is open for dine-in and they have a cute terrace for outdoor seating. Ample menu, everyday lunch special from $8-$11. Excellente servicio, nos gustó mucho el rabo, buena experiencia.

I've been coming here since I was a child and moved out of the neighborhood for a couple years, but in going back about a month ago I noticed they definitely did some remodeling to the interior to modernize it a bit. The food is still just as good as ever though. Had the mofongo, left full. No regrets.

This restaurant is located in the corner of the street. It is very easy to spot. Upon entering on a Saturday evening it was well lit and very clean but not quite romantic, def great for gathering of friends/family for eating and drinking. They have a full menu of everything you expect of a great Dominican restaurant to have. From their homemade beverages "limonada, morir sonando and many more...they are simply excellent. The food is amazing and so far the oxtails, rotisserie chicken, cuban sandwich were not as salty as I expected, was just right! Now I didn't rate 5 stars bc their desserts are not what I expected. The flan had a stale refrigerator taste. The tres leche wasn't as sweet as many others I have tasted in the area and I actually liked it a lot. The service is impeccable, the waitress is fast, friendly and sufficient, she deserves 5 stars. I will definitely become a regular here and try other desserts along wiith my tres leche...yummy😋

Walked here from Museo del Barrio looking for Puerto Rican food, found this Dominican gem. The food was pretty good and the menu is extensive. A filling meal washed down with a Country Club.

Awesome Dominican food. Dozens of people from Mount Sinai order from here and the staff are very friendly. Food was amazing and the waitress even allowed me to taste some things before ordering. 105th and Lexington Ave. The food is pretty consistent over the last decade. Sanchocho (soup with multiple meats) is good as well. Wednesdays and Saturdays. Their baked chicken legs are soooo delicious. I get 2 or 3 and eat them thru the week. Not salty but flavorful. I would recommend them. Not many issues, just minor things. Friendly folks. I am a tough critic because I am Puerto Rican and I can cook. So my motto is, if I'm going to pay you for food I can make myself at home, it has to taste better than mine. Well this place passed that test. Very good tasting food. Pernil was flavorful, tender and juicy. The rice was cooked to perfection and tasted delicious. The only reason I did not give them 5 stars is that the menu online says the pernil lunch is $8, but they charged me $11 and some change. That's a pretty big difference. I would have paid the $11 anyway, but don't like being surprised with a higher bill than expected. I understand a lot of small business owners have had no choice but to raise their prices with the current economy, but if that's what happened here, they need to update their menu. But I will still most likely return there for their delicious food as soon as I can.

Amazing and cheap food (our bill was under $30 for 2 ppl), it would be 5 stars if it weren't for the NASTY attitude our waitress had towards us. She gave my friend and i a disgusted look when we tried speaking to her in Spanish (it's our first language). Straight up ignored us when we tried to show any politeness towards her. Only reason why service is at one star is because out food came out in a quick and timely manner.

The place looked different from back in the days. They have booth as seating. The place decorations were nice. They have a bar if you want a drink. The food continues to be the star for this location.

Good food terrible service. What saves this restaurant is the owners. I respect them and love how professional they are but the lack of skill of the waitresses and the loud TV with the TV drama going on loudly in the background, keeps me from enjoying my dinner stay there. I enjoy the waitresses friendly nature. but would prefer a little more attention to detail. When I am done, I would like them to acknowledge that I am done and offer me desert or the check. I hate trying to flag them down and in some cases thought I already paid. That could have been two free meals on them. Luckily I am not a thief and I like going there. I would love to go there more but until they fix this issue I will be ordering take out and telling people in my department (I manage 30 people at Mt Sinai) to stay away. Please fix. Plus, use less salt in the food. I was taught if food is salty, that means the cooks can't cook.

I have been eating here for years. Recently this place is loosing its taste. Bacon is disgusting, never again. Bathroom is clean, staff is super nice and sometimes very attentive. No WIFI. TV news, sports, etc always on. Music sometimes is on. There is not much space available for stroller, wheelchair or extra carry-on. Place is economic changing to expensive for being in East Harlem. Taxes and fees are overrated if you pay with a Cars of any kind. CASH is a must.

Almost every weekend I order food thru ubereats and dessert and never had a problem until this past Sunday, I ordered a large chicken soup which was delicious but when I went to eat my pineapple dominican cake that I also ordered was so disappointed and disgusted by what I saw. When I opened the cover right on top of the cake was a greenish spot on the icing and a foul smell and upon inspecting the cake more notice 2 large pieces of mold right on the side of the cake. Make sure servers inspect food before it is delivered out!

Service was ok, however i have to say was disappointed with the food. Beef stew was mediocre and bland. But the worst part when i ordered the flan. I regret not taking a photo. But it was horrendous. Frozen, hard, and i never seen an orange flan. Do yourself favor and skip on this one. There are tons of other spanish restaurants.

Four stars for the food; one star for service. Service was amazingly slow and mediocre. We sat at our table for 10 minutes before anyone brought us water. Our waitress came in 5 minutes after that, and was completely unattentive and uninterested. After our excellent food finally came, no one came to pick up our food or to offer us dessert or coffee. I had to go to the counter and ask them to bring us dessert and coffee, which were both very good.

This USED to be one of my favorite restaurants in my old neighborhood. I've been eating there for many years. The food and service has always been good BUT I went there for dinner with my husband on 6/23/23 and Carribeno fell off completely!! The service was bad because of this young waitress they had working there. We had to keep reminding her about what we had ordered. She brang the wrong soda over, then she brang out our meat and had us waiting for a while for our rice while she talked to other customers. When she finally bought the rice over SERVED SUPER MESSY!! Rice all over the edges of the plate and deep indents in the center as if it was done purposely or like if a child had served it. And when I looked to see who was at the counter serving the rice, it was another super young girl. We had to wait another few minutes for the beans which had more sauce and very little beans. And by the time the beans came the steak was already getting cold. The place wasn't even packed! About four tables were occupied. When it was time for the check, we had to keep reminding her can you please bring the check like three times. Its a shame because the Carribeno I remember, the experienced waitresses paid attention to detail, they were attentive, they were very professional, dressed neatly in their black shirts & pants, shirt tucked in etc. This girl had one flap of her gray blouse hanging out of her pants, she just looked like she didn't care about her appearance or what she was there to do. Its going to be a long time before I go back. This experience left a bad taste in my mouth. If I ever do go back HOPEFULLY these kids won't be working there anymore. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! Its not the same great place it used to be.

I expected better Spanish food in the area and was very disappointed. The skin on my pernil was all mush and fat, it wasn’t crispy at all. Maybe this is how Dominicans prepare it uptown? But, I’ve had much better Spanish food in Brooklyn, especially at Puerto Rican restaurants. The rice and peas were bland and did not taste fresh, they were also a different color than what I was expecting. The oxtail stew was all fat and no meat. I was iffy about ordering this but had no choice because no Jamaican restaurants in the area were open or willing to deliver to my location. The maduros didn’t taste fresh and were mushy. They were missing the usual sweet and crisp taste. Food was heavy and greasy and my stomach felt off after eating; I couldn’t finish my food. I also ordered a cheesecake and of course they made a mistake and gave me a tres leches cake instead. Although it wasn’t what I wanted, the cake was arguably the best thing. What’s funny is that I don’t even think they prepared the cake at the restaurant as the sticker on the cake container had a completely different name on it. All in all, I will not be returning.

I gotta say I ordered three mango with only salami and cheese and they charge me $37 for three orders when I finally got the order the amount of food that they gave me for $37 was definitely not worth it. I have ordered from this restaurant and never really had a problem with it, but I have noticed it has been getting bad. I have called them to complain and let them know of how cheap they were with the food and you don't have to send me a whole plate, but that amount that you sent me is an abuse for the money I will never order from you guys again because you guys are just stealing the most expensive in that food is the salami and the cheese. The green banana is very cheap. It's not that expensive for you to give me such a little bit of food never again.

I have ordered from this restaurant regularly. Up until this order, the restaurant always noted my dietary preferences for roast pork. This time, they provided me with a roast pork order with approximately 50% skin and fat. I cannot consume that quantity and my on line order ALWAYS stated that.(in Spanish so it is clear). When the restaurant was contacted by the online delivery service, they LIED they tried to contact me and gave the customer service rep a "lesson" on how "Pernil" is made. Too bad they didn't try that on me I would have given them a LESSON on how its made. And they said they wouldn't bother to honor a request for a replacement since they tried "calling me". (LIE) So MUCHAS GRACIAS Caribeno restaurant. You lost a loyal customer!

This was the worse service ever. 1st I order to pick up. I asked for Carne de cerdo guisado. They said no. Than they only have costillas. I said con salsa, they said no only frita. Than I asked ok tiene Carne de rey Guisado. They said yes. Ok let me get 2 order of Rey with 2 orders of white rice and and beans. So I go pick it up. And I see the costilla en salsa. I said can I change the order this is what I rather have. They said NO it’s already packaged. Huh. Why not I wanted the costilla con salsa but you told me you didn’t have it. My Spanish is not the greatest yet I understand everything. One of the gentlemen was willing to change it and the woman turn her back on me told the guy in Spanish not to change it charge him. Si el quiere la costilla tiene que pagar mas. We not going to change the beef stew (carne guisado) I wanted to talk to the young lady that knew English but she walked away I think for lunch or something. She was nice when I walked in tho. But everyone but the gentlemen and the young lady that speak English they was professional the others treated me like garbage. I end up buying the food cause this was a order for me and my co workers and I was in a rush to get back.

All I wanted was 2 bottles of water and I kept being dismissed by the younger girl who works there. She told me I have to wait and took the customer behind me even tho that customer said she was here before me! I usually go there for lunch, never again! The rudeness was disgusting!

I ordered a delivery came out to 39$ I was fine with that I specifically asked for extra lemon with my chicken when my food arrived I tipped the delivery man as one should and asked him if everything was inside he said yes I go to eat my chicken and French fries and their is not one ketchup packet not even one slice of lemon so I immediately call the restaurant the female that answered was blaming the guy for not telling her but she said she would fix it I wait ten minutes and decide to call the delivery man he said he was never told to bring me the lemon and ketchup so I called back now the man who actually took my order is on the phone now I explain to him what happened and he said at first no you never ask for lemon I said yes I specifically asked for extra lemon and then he said no no but my phone record phone calls so I told him do I need to show up to the restaurant and play you back the recording where I ordered extra lemon and then he said yeah I think you did order extra lemon actually I put it on the paper as a matter of fact I put it in the bag it has to be there I look in every bag no lemon no ketchup so I told this guy first the lady is blaming you then the delivery guy told me the truth you guys weren't sending me any of the condiments while my food is getting more cold and I tipped and then you're telling me I didn't order it then you said I did I mean the food is average my mother owns restaurants Spanish restaurants all throughout Manhattan and I don't think there's any excuse for not fixing the problem there shouldn't have been to begin with if you use common sense.if someone orders french fries throw in ketchup packets and when someone orders (chicharron) little Fried Chickens and they specifically say extra lemon I mean it comes with lemon anyways make sure the order is complete.I had to eat this dry food while these alleged grown-ups enjoy my money and give horrible customer service, no one owned up to the mistake no one even said sorry no one found a way to fix the mistake so my suggestion is DONT GO HERE DONT ORDER HERE and if you decide that you're okay with OK food make sure you tell them like 20 times exactly what you want call them back and make sure that they have it right because apparently people who work in this restaurant don't know how to throw a lemon and ketchup packets in with chicken and french fries

I ordered a mangu with tres golpes , it was tasteless and mangu was not soft, I also ordered pernil with yucca and the pernil smelled like messed up meat and yucca was hard like a rock, I had to throw it all in the garbage, will never order again. I ordered at about 2 and the food got here almost at 5. It was just a sandwich and Maduros. They didn’t add extra cheese that I paid for, they actually used a random little slice of white cheese that smelled like feet. They added tons of things on the sandwich after I requested it be made a certain way due to allergies. The maduros were hard like platanos. And when I further turned the sandwich around there was a small piece of plastic stuck to the bread. Never ordering again, super disappointed. If you ask me, the old Caribeno was much better than el Nuevo.

I honestly loved this place for years. Always ate here... Though as of recently during the pandemic the quality of food and service is just not on par. My last visit. The server, she was fake polite and snooty. I may look white. Though I’m Latino... and understand Spanish. I don’t enjoy people talking about others or disrespecting or Discriminating. I was respectful and courteous. She’s was talking trash about the people I was sitting with. She asks if we want anything to drink. Takes our drinks orders then takes our food order yet their menu had half the items than normally would be. Most Items were crossed out with a marker. with such a limited menu... yet even the items that were listed the server stated they did not have. I asked for something else that was listed on the menu. Once again she stated they did not have it. Why have it on the menu... ? So I order the steak. She brings the drinks half an hour later. Then brings the food 15 minutes later Overcooked steak much saltier than food should be. Not worth it or acceptable anymore. If you can’t offer the same quality every time. There wasn’t more than 4 other people sitting and eating. I would never ever eat here again. Not worth the disrespect and wait. Especially sitting in the cold outside

From my twenties through my forties the food here was Dominican food done well. Well, not anymore. The waitresses were very accommodating but the cook has to go immediately. My friend and I ordered separate dishes; he had the fried pork chops with yellow rice and stewed beans. I ordered the fried boneless chicken with arroz con gandules and stewed beans which I spilt with my 7 year old son. Both the pork chops and boneless chicken were fried bone dry & they both lacked flavor. Both rice dishes were below average. The stewed beans average and the yellow plantains which we split between us three failed in flavor and quality. In short this is no longer the restaurant that shined in the past; the food is consistent in one way….BAD and REALLY BAD. Sadly, my son’s first experience with Dominican food was terrible but thank goodness there are plenty of other Dominican restaurants to pick from and I hope the next time his experience at another restaurant will erase his experience today.

There was a young girl I ordered white rice black beans and chicken, and I ordered a chicken soup I told her I didn't want a lot of juice she got so upset and poured out the whole soup then when it was time to back it up she put the soup at the bottom put my food on top of the soup I didn't put the beans on top of the plate close up the bag everything falls over poor service. Due to the pandemic have not been there for over a year. Looked forward to a good meal and a good time. Upon arrival the dining area was not full of customers . Restaurant is now managed by someone else. Long time waiting to be served. Long time waiting for food to arrive. Different price on check than what is stated on the menu. Did want to argue or get further disappointed in how this was a pleasure to come here and now its not! "Caveat emptor" is my advice. Food was satisfactory. It's the way the business now operates that needs to change and improve.

So I order two orders today rice with chick peas and roast pork and I told them I wanted some skin , usually the skin is supposed to be crunchy but they send me lots of skin very soggy and very little meat and my other order was tasteless and not very good , so I called them and told them that for $36 I felt like I was robbed he said I will get you next time , why would you get me next time when I’m hungry today . I guess I won’t be calling ever again , over priced and not very good tasting !!!!!!!

Last night I placed a food order with a Spanish restaurant El Nuevo Carribeno for myself my sons and 86 year old mom. After living in this community for over 6 decades and the restaurant being in business for many years have never complained about the quality of the food untill last night when I find mouse droppings in a cup of white rice. I was so angry because it’s enough how expensive their food is but to have mice droppings ? I had no choice but got it a bad review files gormsl complaint with the department of health and report this restaurant . For those who are not aware mice or rodent droppings carry viruses , can cause a person to be extremly ill or require hospitalization for anyone especeslly to the young and elderly. I care about the community I live with and its residents so I will comity to having this restaurant reported to get cleaned up for the sake of the community . Truly disappointed and disgusted . I don’t know who the owner is but the man I spoke to regarding a catered thanksgiving dinner was extremly rude and haggled me for more money the mash potatoes were horrible last time I ordered a mogonho with pernir there was no penir . This place needs to shut down get cleaned up and get a new chef . Their hospitality is truly lacking . They won’t be getting g my money anymore if people want to eat mice poo go right ahead but remember I put it on Google review

I went there today as I have since this establishment opened in the company of several community Leaders, one is a Reverend. We ordered our food. Two of us ordered the sancocho which was more of a soup with left over meats, poorly cooked, mixed with carrots, a potato, broth was acidic, sour. We requested to speak with the manager who rudely said that the lemon which I used for my water was what caused the taste. He assumed that I squeezed the lemon over the nasty soup. He went further on to antagonize the whole table in saying that he feels bad for the community having us as Leaders. His tone was arrogant, rude, disrespectful to our party and other people there. I asked his name. He refused then responded with a Danny. He pretty much treated our whole party poorly. He was then addressed by a chef, part of our party, restaurant owner. He continued to be aggressive in tone and pretty much not caring. I will not support this establishment ever again and urge you all not to support it either. Everyone has a right to enjoy a meal and not be treated poorly. This restaurant needs hospitality training , as well as upgrading to a better chef, quality of food.

I have eaten at this restaurant and ordered takeout as well, but I will never order from them again. Last evening I placed an order via Seamless for this restaurant. Over an hour went by after I placed my order and my food was nowhere to be seen. I called Seamless and informed them and they placed me on hold while they contacted the restaurant. When Seamless returned to the line they told me the restaurant informed them the order had just left the restaurant (one hour later). I decided to wait. However, another 30 minutes went by and still no food. I called the restaurant myself and they told me that their Seamless connection wasn't working so my order never came in. This is not what they told the people from Seamless. The person I spoke to said they would "check" and hung up on me. When I called back I had apparently been blocked from calling because a message came on saying my call couldn't be completed. It's obvious they had turned on some kind of "Do Not Disturb" feature. This behavior is unacceptable. They took my money but didn't want to deliver my food. I called Seamless again and told them what happened. I demanded a refund. Seamless said they would issue the refund. Don't do business with this restaurant. They are unprofessional not to mention liars. I am so disappointed because I did like their food.
