Opinions de Grill 21 New York
SUCH a hidden gem!! and amazing delicious affordable plates. Super low key and down to earth spot but the food is incredible. Also $12 can get you a loaded peruvian chicken plate… can’t find this type of deal anywhere else in manhattan. Recommend their peruvian chicken, their la positiva sandwich and their juices are all made fresh!
New York is full of neighborhood gems, and Jugos is one of them. While the name would suggest this is just a juice bar it’s actually a Peruvian grilled chicken joint. I am pretty confident this place has been here for some time, but I only just noticed that there are beautiful flowers outside under the umbrellas on their sidewalk patio. They even sell fresh flowers
Highly recommend the espresso drinks with the house made cashew milk!! Amazing! Fresh, delicious ingredients. Amazing place for select vegan and gluten free options as well! The smoothies are delicious and filling. The grilled chicken is the best I’ve ever had, and love the salads. Even though I’m not a big salad eater, could eat one here everyday if I was rolling in the Benjamins. This place is all love. Thanks for such an incredible place to nourish our body and souls!! ❤️❤️❤️
Very good grilled chicken. Got a rice bowl and everything g tasted really fresh. Portions are generous. A nice healthy spot for a quick meal
What a hidden gem. Healthy and pretty affordable and so GOOD their grilled chicken is really moist and tender. $10 for this giant sandwhich w 2 chicken breasts and half an avocado on it
Awesome bowls for lunch! They totally renovated the old place Lucky Chicken and made it a cool spot for Latin sandwiches, smoothies, and coffee!
Absolutely love this place! Such a gem in the spot of the old Lucky Chicken in East Gramercy. Serving fresh juices & smoothies, breakfast and lunch bits + coffee AND some of the best Peruvian Style Chicken & sides at a great price. Great service, awesome staff and good quality food! Get the whole chicken & 4 sides or half chicken with 2 sides - totally can’t go wrong - all flame grilled 🙌🏼❤️🤘🏼🔥
Picked up lunch at Jugos for the first time today. I ordered a whole chicken with four sides. It was a great deal and the food was very delicious. This is my first time trying the place since they converted from the former restaurant Lucky chicken. I will come back for sure.
One of the best lunches I've ever had. I had the grilled chicken, yellow rice with red beans, salad, avocado and maduros. Delicious! I will drive from the Bronx to bring my wife so she can experience this amazing food!
My fav spot in the area! The food is so fresh and the cold brew is the best I’ve had here in nyc. Everything is made to order though so if you’re in a rush best to call in beforehand.
This has so much more than juice and smoothies- sandwiches, salads, with fresh ingredients. BLT always wins. Also love the chicken combo option with a ton of sides to choose from - avocado salad and maduros are 😋This has quickly become a favorite local place of mine. Sometimes they give little samples of chia pudding or juices with your order! Always love going hear for something quick but fresh
Jugos is bomb it is fresh healthy the chicken is always juice guac never brown the bowls are huge and I always have left over. Multiple flavors in each dish SHINING. Music always vibin!!! It’s just a SOLID choice, I love you guys!! It’s right near work for me so it’s a getaway, the plants inside and outside are gorgeous you can tell they care about quality ingredients from the love they put in their shop.
did NOT disappoint. the restaurant is unassuming but everything packed a punch. no need to get the garlic rice. get the hot calamansi juice, laing, and lechon. sisig was pretty good too. we got the pancit palabok as well though it was overpowered by the flavors of the other dishes. it actually tasted better as leftovers! it's not as affordable as i expected it to be. to be fair, we did have leftovers. there was also a bit of a wait before our entree arrived. it seems like it's a small staff handling all of the operations. try to come at odd hours because the restaurant is quite small and can't accommodate many.
My expectations were completely surpassed by the meal. Your dining dollars work harder here. The restaurant provides competent service. Their menu features exceptional items. Bring your friends here for a great time.
The food was really good. I’m from California where Silogs is so easy to find but have moved to the north east since. This has been the best Filipino breakfast I’ve had here. One thing I’ll say is the utensil pack they give you doesn’t come with a spoon which is weird as a Filipino lol. And they don’t do tomatoes and patis with their silog but she did bring a couple slices of tomatoes out after I asked for them. The only downside to this place is the server we had this morning was really really rude. Lol didn’t smile at us once. No small talk. No asking how the food was. We even made the joke of the food was so good that nothing was left behind and she just kept a stone cold face. She even had an attitude when we asked if we can do patio seating even though there wasn’t a single customer there. Still, I have to support Filipino businesses. Just hope the review falls in the right lap so she can have an attitude adjustment.
The dishes complemented the warm feeling of the space perfectly. The workers here provide thoughtful answers. Their food quality remains consistently outstanding. This restaurant creates a cool atmosphere. Our group enjoyed this restaurant thoroughly.
Grill 21 is a family favorite that my mom introduced me to a decade ago, and it’s still a must every time we’re in NYC. The food is authentic, high quality, and always delicious. I had the lumpia shanghai, pork adobo with garlic rice, calamansi juice, and halo-halo. Small, cozy, and a true hidden gem.
Had a craving for the Filipino BBQ Pork but didn't want to travel to Jackson Heights. Saw that they had a lunch special with 2 skewers (chicken or pork). Tiny spot and I was surprised that the place was so packed for a Sunday. My order took a bit since the kitchen was slammed. The skewers came out as I expected and left me wanting more... until the next time.
Came here for my 30th birthday dinner with a group of friends, and we had an amazing experience with some mouth-watering Filipino foods, especially the Lecon Kawali. The staff were incredibly friendly day and nice and attentive. We got the dinner set where foods were laid out on banana leaves, and we ate with our hands, and it was such a fun experience. It's definitely one of the best Filipinos foods I've had in New York. This place is a must try if you're in the area!
The food was excellent! The real standouts for me were the Liang side dish (spinach with shrimp in coconut milk - well seasoned with a kick!), chicken adobo, lechón kawali (crispy pork belly) and Kare kare. The garlic rice was also delicious. For dessert, the flan and cassava cake were delicious. We went with Filipino friends who confirmed this place is authentic. Service was very friendly and attentive. The only thing is that if you sit by the window, there is a draft as the windows aren't insulated.
We were looking for an authentic Filipino restaurant to have lunch at in the city and I am so glad we chose Grill 21! This was my first time trying Filipino food and I was not at all disappointed. Everything we ordered was delicious and very different from what I am used to. I very much enjoyed the Bistek I ordered along with the various other dishes I tried from what our party ordered. The service was wonderful too, and we felt very welcomed the entire time we were there. I would definitely return to Grill 21 if I come back to the city in the future and I would recommend you visit and try some great Filipino food.
The prices were decent for what you get. We ordered lumpiang shanghai (ground pork spring rolls), daing na bangus (fried fish) with garlic rice, pancit bihon (thin rice noodles with shrimp), halo halo special with ube ice cream, and leche flan. These are our go-to dishes when we have Filipino food. The two desserts were excellent: halo halo had a lot of tasty toppings, and flan was thick and creamy. The fish was pretty good--crispy on outside and soft inside. Flavorful. Garlic rice wasn't really what we expected, literally just rice with some garlic in it--not a strong flavor. The noodles were okay. A little greasy. The rolls were the only things that were disappointing--not very flavorful, just a little salt. I've definitely had better. Waitress was attentive. Atmosphere was cute. Clean. Bathroom was clean. Did did take a little while to come out, probably because it was prime take-out time for lunch. If I could give it half a star, I would say this is more 3.5 stars.
The most authentic Filipino food I have had in NYC to date. Very small dining area with some outdoor seating. While I loved the food, I was disappointed in the service... after my food was served, as I was left alone for 30 mins before being checked on. Overall, a great place and a must try if you are in the mood for authentic Fiipino Cuisine!
Love the food. It’s fresh, flavorful and made to order, although they are always late in pickup orders. Maybe they need more employees? Drinks are disgusting. I’ve had the Cortado and Matcha latte and trust me when I say they were undrinkable. Cafe inside is cute, reminds me of Miami, and they play good music.
I was the only customer, and I waited 20+ minutes for a $13 smoothie - when I asked the cashier why it took this long she replied « we had no carrots ». No apologies or smile.
Bad. They never have the items on their menu. If you go early, they didn’t make the sauces yet. If you go a little later like 2:00pm…. They tell you they are sold out. When I asked why I could never come at the right time they spoke in Spanish and made fun of me. I was incredibly embarrassed as I had tried Togo many different times throughout the day on Nemerov’s occasions. So sadly I would say do NOT travel there thinking you will be able to order what you want. The employees will laugh at you and or tell you that you can buy the chicken. (Which is the only thing they have left. So sad as I was excited about this place. Going back to my tried and true NYC Spanish food establishments.
The fried chicken sandwich is just grocery store frozen breaded tenders. The latte was terrible. The customer service wasn’t the worst I’ve seen but it honestly wasn’t great. 2 stars b/c the ambiance and the other parts of the food (salad, sauce) was good.
Are we really that deep in recession? You gave me a tablespoon of shrimp paste for a whole pint of Kare-Kare and half serving of rice. You know how important rice is to our dishes and how important shrimp paste to Kare-Kare. I also had to double check if I bought a vegan Kare-Kare, there barely any meat in there and it’s very soupy. Now I wish I cooked some rice. For all the money we spent on you please be better! I’ve waited for over an hour for this!
It’s really not the same. I used to get food here all the time, but it’s been a few years. We weren’t offered any water, the server was brusque, and the tapsilog was served with soggy garlic rice (not crispy garlic), cold beef with small portions, and unevenly cooked sunny side up egg (slightly raw egg white - slimy) 😔 for $14, there are way better options.
Ordered lunch to be delivered to my office and I have never been so disappointed to receive my lunch. The arepa isn’t an arepa at all. No cheese on top, but instead crumbled in a tiny container. I’ve seen tacos thicker than this arepa. Thought I’d give this place a try but won’t be ordering from here again.
I remember when this place first opened, it was my go-to for lunch almost every day. Most recently I tried calling to place an order for pick up, a young lady came to the phone, kept me on hold for 5 minutes, never came back. I hanged up, and tried calling literally 5 times, someone picked up, then hanged up and the other times no one picked up. It would be nice if they could improve customer service.

Quite possibly the worst “food” I’ve had in NY. The salad had absolutely no dressing on it and the dressing on the side was congealed. The chicken, which should be amazing given it’s the specialty, was beyond dry and 90% bone. One woman was slowly working while 3 other men were in and out of the restaurant doing very little.
