I think I had one of the best Italian meals ever here! Every dish I had is quality and I would recommend, starting with those baked clams, I dish I get everywhere I go of course! Absolutely must try these lamo chops there prime Colorado dry aged and you can taste the difference in quality in these chops
My new fave Italian spot in the city!! It was the best Cacio e Pepe I’ve ever had, and the rest of the food was spectacular as well. The service was incredible and we absolutely loved every minute of our meal here. We will be back!
It's not often that I find myself looking for a place to eat in Midtown on the East Side, but I am happy to report that I now have my new go-to. Il Monello is a small Italian restaurant that feels like a place where if you go once a month, they will still remember what you ordered the last time. After being redirected down 49th Street because of UN closures, my wife and I glanced at the menu and decided to sit outside on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. When we arrived, there were several tables outside, but most were taken by the time our food arrived. It's popular with the diplomatic core, and as global travelers, I know they know a good thing when they find it. We ordered the calamari, clams regatta, and carpaccio, which were all delicious. We had a couple of glasses of Sancerre, and everything was perfect. We plan to return with friends for dinner and sit inside. There is a front room and a back room. Both are lovely, but the back room has no windows, so it is best if you are looking for an intimate experience. There is a small bar, too, which is strategically separated from the dining room by a small wall. This little spot is punching way above its weight class, and I can't wait to see what dinner is like.
I recently had lunch at this amazing Italian restaurant, and let me tell you, it was fantastic! The dish with fresh fish, greens, and shrimp was a standout; it tasted so good! Honestly, everything I tried was delicious. The way they cook their food is impressive—I haven't had better anywhere else. If you're into tasty and healthy food, this place is a winner. Plus, the service was excellent. Whether you're a foodie or just looking for a great meal, I highly recommend it. I left feeling really happy and content after such a satisfying lunch. I recommend that place for sure ❤️
Wow! I wasn't expecting much and yet I was blown away! The mushroom risotto was so earthy tasting with that mushroom flavor. It was the best. Now I understand why people love risotto. I was never a big fan but now I am! The cacio e pepe is something I have wanted to try for years and here it was delicious. My only complaint is that the food is soooo rich! The portions should be smaller. If you eat the whole plate, you will be sick.
This is one of the best Italian restaurants in the area, and that’s saying a lot with the competition around this area. The service stands out like a steak house, but the food is the star. The pasta is fresh, the meats cooked to perfection and seafood of the highest caliber. The soft shell crab special on my birthday was quite amazing. If you’re considering Italian in this area, this is the place:
Incredible Italian food with a great selection of pastas, steakhouse style meats, classic Italian entrees and fish. Amazing service!!! Can't wait to go back.
Our server, Tim, was the best. Not only is the food and service the best, but the folks there are good people for customers. We had some medical issues to deal with, and Tim particularly was gracious and understanding to our needs. The pasta and seafood is great, a good neighborhood spot for family and friends.
Went to Il Monello with my husband the other night and had the best time! The food was incredible, I had the Salmon and David had the Cacio e Pepe. Both were WONDERFUL. Service was excellent and it’s a short walk from our apartment which I love during the colder months! Such a great new find!
Incredible food, attentive service and lovely ambience! Surf & turf was divine.
The best in NYC. Great food and great atmosphere! The porterhouse stake is a must . All the staff were amazing and funny. Highly recommended!
Excellent service both by the amazing bartender and waiters and the food is delicious.
Excellent food, excellent service, it’s very clean and the ambience is cozy , warm and inviting. I can’t rave about this place enough. They are truly the best of the best!
Wonderful dining experience. Sea bass was excellent. Sabrina was attentive and professional. Fabulous restaurant.
A wonderful hidden gem in the city, sparkly white table clothes, attentive service, fantastic food and a good selection of wines. Absolutely recommend for a quiet lunch or a dinner for anyone.
delicious food and Gabby the bartender she is awesome she make very delicious drinks
I don't leave reviews very often, but Il Monello was exceptional. The food, service, and atmosphere were top-notch. The wine list and menu diversity were great. This is one of the best Italian restaurants in Manhattan.
I received exceptional service at Il Monello, undoubtedly the best that I have encountered in a while in NyC. The bartender, Livia went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of. The food was delicisous and the handcrafted Cocktails from Livia are a must try! You wont be disappointed of you dine here.
Absolutely delicious food served each and every time my wife and I have visited. Their desserts are to die for. (But to be honest, one of the times we visited, the tiramisu was not quite up to standard - compared to the first time we tried it when it was spot on!) They also serve a mean porterhouse - comparable to any good steakhouse in Manhattan. All the staff there are fantastic as well. A special shout-out to Eddy and Timmy who always take good care of us. Will definitely continue dining there. 😊
Great food, I had the Veal Ragu. Service was poignant.
We just happened to pass this place while looking for take-out and ordered several dishes for 5 people. Every one of them was absolutely delicious and we will definitely be visiting again, excellent Italian food 😋
Wonderfully attentive service coupled with top flight delicious food. Extensive menus for steaks, pastas, appetizers and specials. An amazing experience for a special occasion or just for a great night out. Truly memorable. Food: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Atmosphere: 4/5
Went back after a year and my review is still that this is the best Italian food on the East side. The wait service is top of the line, it features a beautiful interior, and has a good crowd, but not busy. The veal parm was so good i almost cried when i bit into it. Highly recommend.
Food was delicious. Ambiance was perfect for an intimate dining experience. Chiro, our server, was the best. We highly recommend dining here. Mahalo!
An Elegant neighborhood restaurant with a friendly, knowledgeable, attentive (but not intrusive) staff. The food was excellent. Fresh, expertly seasoned, prepared and cooked to perfection. The Cacio E Pepe was amazing - done right just like in Rome! The sea bass and branzino were fresh and delicious and the tiramisu was heavenly. My husband alerted the restaurant that we were celebrating our anniversary and they were so kind as to send us a dessert on the house. Many thanks to the staff for all your good wishes for our anniversary!
This is a real NY restaurant. Food is simple and great. Service, especially Francesco (who poured me 2 glasses of his homemade limoncello as a courtesy) is attentive and genuine. Prices are fair, unlike the current trend elsewhere. Clientele are real people, not posers. Run, don’t walk, to eat here.
Went for dinner last night with friends and had the best time. One of the best Italian restaurants I have been. Delicious food and amazing experience. Staff welcoming and absolutely lovely 👏🏼 Definitely coming back!
Great new addition to the neighborhood. I couldn’t believe I got a porterhouse steak at an Italian restaurant. It was cooked perfectly. I guess it helps that their sister restaurant is Tuscany Steakhouse. My wife had the cacio-Pepe that was amazing as well. Thank you for coming to Turtle Bay.
Eddie and Steve run a great place, fresh food and great service, authentic and delicious Italian cuisine!
Went there last night for a friends birthday dinner. Beautiful clean restaurant, food was delicious, service was excellent. Our waiter Velon was friendly, efficient and super attentive. We will definitely be back 🍽️
This place is a hidden gem!! My wife and I had dinner here and ordered the Sea Bass and Chicken Parm along with a couple of appetizers, The food and service was excellent! Highly recommended checking it out.
Taste is involved when eating, but we eat with our eyes too. My wife and I began our Valentine dinner at Il Monello with rose petals leading into the restaurant door and leading to our dinner table that was also sprinkled with them. Fabiano, our waiter, was exceptional as always, so was my special risotto with lump crabmeat and asparagus. The special dessert, fresh cannoli with the lightest ricotta filling, the perfect compliment to the crisp shell, was the absolute delicious end to a wonderful meal that ended with a long stemmed rose to each lady dinner. The drink pour was its always generous.
A warm family atmosphere, One of the best New York Italian restaurants!! 100% top notch in every single category, you can imagine they’ve cornered perfection🙂 . Will start with Gabrielle, the Mixology bartender incredible how she mixes and does her thing to perfection, The entire staff so accommodating. EDWARD AVDYIL thank you for such a dining experience!
Hosted a company holiday dinner here in the private dining room and it was a big hit! Eddie the manager and all the staff were responsive, kind, and accommodating! We will be back!
Incredible food and phenomenal service! The best meal we had in NYC, would definitely recommend!
One of the best Italian restaurants in midtown east serving delicious Italian specialties using freshest ingredients, very nice, attentive service and a beautifully appointed dining room and bar area .
Best Italian restaurant in the neighbourhood. Serving delicious, freshly prepared Italian specialties. Lovely ambience and great service
Excellent restaurant experience!! The baked clams and Calamari are delicious for appetizers. I had the Fettuccine for my main dish and it was great. Tiramisu was one of the best I have ever eaten and the coffee was great today. I was there with a party of 9 and it was superb.
It's rare to have a perfect dining experience these days, but I had such an experience last Friday night. My wife and I came into the city from PA for a date night and I chose dinner at Il Monello. We arrived early, and a little underdressed (hit a spa beforehand), and were treated like family. The hostess was super friendly, immediately took our coats, and brought us to our table in the front room with a wall full of windows looking out at 49th street. My wife ordered an espresso martini and I ordered a glass of their SuperTuscan which was one of the best red wines (and definitely the best SuperTuscan) I ever had. Bread and olive oil were outstanding. We started with fried calamari which was excellent and came with two delicious sauces. We didn't each want a huge salad so we asked to split a Caesar, to which our server (excellent guy, forget his name) immediately said no problem and had the kitchen split it beautifully in the back. The salad was outstanding with super fresh Romaine. That night they had a homemade Bolognese over mushroom ravioli. My wife loves Bolognese and hates mushrooms, so the chef made her a plate of fettuccini Bolognese. I ordered the frutti di mare which was heavy on fresh seafood and light on pasta, exactly as I would have prepared it myself. Portion sizes were exactly right on; we were full but didn't have half of a dinner sitting on the plate afterwards. We skipped dessert so we could bounce around the city and get it somewhere else. All in all, it was an amazing (and delicious) experience and I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Lived in NYC for 15 years and have had hundreds of Chicken Parmesan’s and I have to say this is the best one. I think about it and come back for it. I’ve eaten other dishes here as well and everything has always been fabulous. If you come start with the chicken parm and go from there.
I have been coming here for years, whenever I’m in midtown. The food is always excellent, as is the service.
Excellent restaurant 👍
Really nice neighbors Italian food. Was there on a Saturday night and it wasn’t overly crowded. We were greeted kindly and the service was fairly attentive. The food was very good. We had the salmon with broccoli raab. Perfectly cooked and a large portion. We also had the orecchiette and it was excellent. Definitely a nice neighborhood gem.
Gabriel waited on us - fantastic service. Best dirty Martini I've ever had in the city. (Chose kettle one). Favorite dish was the risotto special. Best dessert was the tiramisu. *Music is awesome. American music from the 50s .
Went to Il Monello for a birthday lunch with an old friend. The greeting and service were welcoming and professional, I loved the old school white tablecloth ambiance. However, we both felt the food was mediocre and unmemorable. My veal chop was large, but it had little taste. My friend’s pasta he labeled bland. We had a great time, but that’s because old friends always do no matter our age.
Owner was rude when my table of 6 told him it was too cold. It was Father’s Day and we had elderly parents with us. We asked him to put heat on. He said he was warm. 50% of the people wore their coats while eating!
A reasonable Italian Restaurant with good pasta dishes, average fish dishes, and overpriced meats dishes for the quality meat they serve. The desert menu includes average Cream brulée and sub-par Tiramisu (could hardly tell if there was any Mascappone in it). The coffee is good quality. The olive oil/olives were good quality, the bread less quality. Servers are kind and conscientious, but spilled soup on me and didn't even notice when taking away the plate of the person next to me. They would get 3.5 stars if that were possible, and four if they hadn't spilled the soup on me. Given the number of quality Italian restaurants in New York City and the hefty price tags this one charges, this one is not good value for money.
It was a special dinner for our delegation from south East Asia Pacific. The wait staff refused to take the dirty plates from the table but were content to flirt with us while dirty plates stayed for half an hour. We stacked them ourselves and were ready to take to the kitchen because we could not share our papers and phone photos at a full table. At the end of the night the taxes were charged then the services were charged on top of the bills. Minimum tip was 25 % otherwise our credit cards would not work. Shame on you. I fear that true customer service is dead, but we still have to pay for it.
I ordered one of the specials… $62! I’m not a big spender so if I hadn’t ordered a special and if I’d seen this on the menu as priced, we probably wouldn’t have come here. Still upset about this and will always ask how much a special costs in the future
We received exceptional service at Il Monello, undoubtedly the best we encountered during our three days in New York City. However, regrettably, that was the only highlight of our experience. The food, unfortunately, left much to be desired, with bland flavors that lacked the culinary expertise one would expect. Frankly, I could prepare a tastier pasta dish myself. The calamari, in particular, seemed to come from a frozen batch, lacking the freshness and flavor that we anticipated. Additionally, the inclusion of an automatic gratuity left us perplexed. Perhaps it should be labeled as a service charge instead, as we believed gratuity was meant to be based on the quality of service received. This unexpected charge further dampened our overall impression.
