Very good experience. I have a west African background and I haven’t had a chance to taste my parents cuisine in years. I had a tieboodien which is rice and fish with legumes and vegetable. I asked for alloco (plantain), tiakry (couscous soaked in yogurt and flavoured with vanilla) Food: 9/10 my dish was a little bit too oily but really good and tasty. Alloco and tiakry were perfect Quantity: 11/10 this could feed 2 people, hence I haven’t finished and took some for home Service: 6/10 far from North American standard but they weren’t rude Would I return? YES Hope this help
Good food but unfortunately everything is very spicy. They should keep the spicy on the side not in the main dish
This was so good! Not great if you are trying to watch the salt content but if you want some delicious Senegalese food, this place did the trick! Please keep in mind that I know absolutely nothing about Senegalese food standards, but my friend who is a first generation West African descendant and more familiar with the cuisine said she thought the food was great. At the very least, it was yummy to this uncultured American girl! 😁 The atmosphere was a bit dark for my liking but the place was clean and the portion sizes were wonderful. Great value, just not for less adventurous eaters.
Great place for East African food I really appreciate the welcome in this restaurant. The tieb, the fried chicken and the plantain babana was typically what we can eat in Senegal. Convivial and pleasant service by Coumba and her team, thank you very much. The restaurant lacks a bit of light and not easy to identify externaly but a great ambiance.
Friendly Senegalese restaurant in Harlem with tasty, traditional food and generous portions, though the amount of fish with the tieboudienne is a bit small relative to the amount of rice. The atmosphere is typical of what you would experience in Senegal, including the TV channels. Customers chat with each other, sometimes across tables, while waiting for their meals. Don’t be surprised that not every dish on the menu is available every day. Look at the daily specials section to see what they have that day. (Every Senegalese restaurant I’ve been to does this, but this is the only one I saw with the daily specials list.) I brought a friend who had never had Senegalese food before and she liked both dishes.
Dibi not grilled and hard. Disrespectful to Senegalese cuisine. More like Keur nehu dada. Waste your money if you want
Worst experience ever! From a loyal customer that I was to them , they gave me rotten food. The food was gluey and smell bad ! Can’t believe I got scammed 60$! I want my money back ! When you order to go they give you bad food !
I was very disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. The drinks were the only good part, but the food was terrible. I ordered the dibi lamb, which was just okay, and my friend ordered the fish. The fish was soggy, loaded with ginger, and basically inedible—she didn’t even eat it. Despite that, we both ended up sick with severe stomach pain after the meal. To make things worse, the bill was wrong. The food was supposed to cost $50, but we were charged an extra $20. Getting sick, being overcharged, and being served such low-quality food is unacceptable. I do not recommend this place to anyone.
This is the worse African food I ever had in my life. This meal isn't even fit for a DOG. Two scraps of Lambs bones and 2 lbs of rice. Also, the food tastes stale. 0/10 BELOW AVERAGE. Waste of time and money. In these times when things are so expensive , paying for Subpar food is quite ridiculous. They will never see a red cent from me again 🙄
I came to order a 2 chicken sandwiches, 1 thu djeun, 3 waters, 1 soda and a side order of fries. He tried charging me $70.00. I added Everything without tax was 46.50. He argued that the prices are different than the stack of brochures he had. Yet he still said another price which still didn’t add up to 70. He later said we don’t have it. All the other customers that came in paid the price on the brochure. I guess he assumed I’m a tourist or wouldn’t add up what I ordered. I don’t recommend this place to anyone.
