Tip: Opt for the longer, 15-course omakase for the full, traditional experience and to be seated at the sushi bar. Restaurant week is a great way to try this fabulous place.

Opinions de Kissaki New York
For USD 135, the 15-course omakase offers solid value. The overall sushi experience was good, with a few standout bites — particularly the hand roll and the scallop with corn sauce, which were well-executed and memorable. While the remaining courses were more on the okay to good side rather than exceptional, the service consistently stood out. The team was attentive, warm, and professional throughout the meal. A special mention to the chef for the extra portion of pre-dessert, which was a thoughtful and generous gesture that elevated the overall experience. Final take: Good value omakase with reliable service and a few highlights. Thank you, Chef.
I loved the Omakase experience at the bar and our sushi chef, Ryan. He was exceptional! My favorite was the tuna with hazelnut and mushrooms on top. The black cod with miso and rice as an appetizer was a close second. They are very punctual, but that's part of the experience, as all the dishes arrive on time.
I came here for dinner recently and thought that it was alright. The interior of the restaurant consists of an omakase bar in the back and a cocktail bar at the front. As we did the 11-course omakase, we were seated at the cocktail bar (the omakase bar was reserved for only 15-courses that evening). The host (and our server for the evening) was absolutely amazing and so kind. The sake that I was recommended to be paired with the course was amazing. I really loved how light, fruity, and a bit sweet the sake was. The course consisted of 2 appetizers, 8 nigiri, and 1 dessert. The two appetizers were probably the highlight of the meal. The first was mackerel paired with fermented miso, and I've never had anything like it before. The second was a 3-bite tuna on pumpkin tempura, with one bite consisting of a caviar topping, another with wasabi, and the last with truffle. I loved both appetizers, and thought they were some of the most unique ones I've had from an omakase experience. The nigiri, however, were thinner cuts of fish, the garnishes weren't paired well (I felt like it didn't highlight the fish), and the rice felt a bit dry. Overall, if the nigiri were just a bit better I would've loved this.
- Service: The staff were attentive and willingly answered all our questions about the food. They started with warm hand towels for cleanliness, and the chef was friendly and approachable. - Vibe: Despite the limited seating, the restaurant provided comfortable seats and even had a hanger for my wife's purse. - Cardamom Mule: This cocktail had a pleasant ginger aroma and a subtle sweetness that I enjoyed. - Nagano Soha Cha: The toasted buckwheat tea had a peaceful aroma that my wife particularly liked. - First Appetizer: The combination of flavors in the fluke wrapped around grapefruit, garnished with summer truffle, and dipped in homemade ponzu sauce was truly delightful. The tanginess of the grapefruit added a refreshing twist to awaken our taste buds. - Second Appetizer: The Hokkaido Uni with egg yolk sauce, caviar, lemon zest, and Japanese squid offered a delightful balance of flavors. It had a slight richness, which was perfectly contrasted by the squid and caviar. The texture was luxuriously smooth, and the overall taste was absolutely delicious. - Third Appetizer: The Hokkaido Scallop topped with truffle and cream sauce showcased the outstanding freshness and sweetness of the scallop. The creamy sauce added a delightful balance, resulting in a scrumptious combination that we thoroughly enjoyed. - First Bite: The Japanese amberjack (Kanpachi) topped with Mirin Dashi had a delightful bouncy texture and a pronounced freshness that shone through with each bite. It was a satisfying and enjoyable treat. - Second Bite: The Kinmedai (Goldeneye Snapper) fish, while not as sweet as the amberjack, had a pleasant aroma that enhanced the overall experience. It was another delightful creation from the chef that we thoroughly enjoyed. - Third Bite: The Shima Aji (Striped Jack) topped with Black Garlic offered a richer flavor profile compared to the Kinmedai, and it tasted even better. The addition of black garlic added depth, creating a truly enjoyable experience. - Fourth Bite: The Akamutsu had a slight saltiness from the charcoal salt that enhanced its overall flavor. As the richness increased, it became even more delicious. - Fifth Bite: The Monkfish Liver (Foie Gras of the Sea) had an enticing aroma, and the sweet sauce perfectly complemented its richness. It was an outstanding dish with excellent flavor combinations. - Sixth Bite: The Baby Hamachi topped with roasted paprika had a unique and slightly spicy aroma from the roasted paprika. It added an extra dimension to the already delicious bite, making it another enjoyable dish. - ... - The culinary experience surpassed our expectations with each subsequent bite. Words fail to capture the exceptional quality of the dishes at this remarkable establishment. The overall dining experience was simply outstanding, and we will definitely be returning. We highly recommend it to anyone who loves omakase. 🤟
Loved the Omakase experience at the counter and our sushi chef Ryan! It was exceptional! My personal favorite was the tuna with a hazelnut inside with mushrooms on top. The miso black cod with rice on the side as an appetizer is a close second. They are strict on being punctual, but that’s part of the experience for all the pieces come out timely.
Our reviews had over 56 million views in the last 12 months. We do not get paid we just love to eat and have fun. We really love Kissaki Sushi. wow Best sushi place in NYC. Price Fixe menu is the way to go. Each item was outstanding. We strongly recommend this way to each sushi because you end up trying things you would never order al a carte. The desserts are wonderful and you can order some extra ones like we did. Check out the photos. I wish I could tell you what all of it is, but it was a bit overwhelming. Some folks in our party were big sushi lovers from Japan and they said it was some of the best they had ever had. I know i loved it, but i am no sushi expert. Really good. Visited during nyc restaurant week, so not the usual experience here. But it allowed us to try this fabulous place. A smoked sea bass with sea weed paste and a miso soup were the beginning of the meal, and they tasted great. Afterward came an 8 nigiri plate with a kind explanation from our host on what is what. It was an amazing umami experience that involved the entire body. We paired it with some great sake and a glass of wine. The desert was an ice cream, which wasn't that exciting, especially after what we ate before.
Wow, it's my first time seeing so many whole fish at an omakase restaurant! They have their own Fishery and Wildlife License, allowing them to source the finest fish directly from Japanese fishing areas ✌️ The environment here is elegant and comfortable. Each course is generously prepared with thick, high-quality sashimi that's fresh and has a unique flavor. I really liked the nigiri with yuzu sauce, which was refreshing and delicate. The most impressive course was the second appetizer; it had a crispy nori base topped with layers of corn, toro, caviar, and black truffle, creating a crunchy, fresh, and rich taste. I still crave it after finishing it 😍 Definitely a must-try! The third course was like melon wrapped around rice grains, showing the chef's sense of fun and innovation 💕 Not to be missed! Looking forward to discovering new surprises on my next visit!
As a big fan of omakase we tried this one as part of the restaurant week offering. Compared to other omakase places this is much bigger and has a menu with also other things. For the restaurant week offering they serve the menu in one plate instead of preparing them individually and serving one after the other. We didn't mind and liked it anyways. As part of the menu we also had soup and a pretty desert.
Had some hesitation about coming here given the 4.3 star rating on Maps, but throughout my experience I grew increasingly confused as to why Kissaki would receive lower than 5 stars. My group opted for the longer omakase option (2 hr/15 course) and we all found the preparation, presentation, and pacing was perfect. The soup may have been the least exciting dish, but it was still pretty good. The rest of the fish and caviar in different forms were just brilliant throughout the omakase. The chef was courteous and attentive to how fast or slow we were eating - all staff were kind, quick, and made sure our cups were full. Don't understand why this place got lower ratings.
I visited for restaurant week and loved it, then I went back for the longer dinner omakase and I loved it. I recommend the shorter lunch if you're on the fence. Dinner is the same high quality food, excellent service, and relaxed atmosphere. I highly recommend it. For this quality, it's high value. The nigiri was delicious, plump and filling. The fish was really fresh, and the seasoning was varied perfect. The appetizer soup was syrupy and flavorful, and the other appetizer and the dessert were both great too. The salmon handroll was good, but not great, just too plain and had too much rice. Service was good, and food came out relatively quickly as it was being made fresh (obviously).
Exquisite omakase tasting. Came on a busy Saturday night on a 4 day advanced reservation. Place was full and lively, but not loud. Went with the 16 course tasting which is well worth it over the 12 course. Started out with 3 outstanding appetizers that included a large blueprint oyster marinated in their vinegar dressing topped with salmon roe. The fatty tuna belly was perhaps the most delicious piece of nigiri of the tasting by itself. Had multiple other pieces that were wonderfully topped off with caviar and fresh uni. The wine paring added another 60 to the meal, but had at least 4 glasses so it was in itself an outstanding value. Each piece of nigiri was wonderful
Had the 12 course omakase. Visiting from Taiwan had a lot of experience in Japanese style sushi, this place is actually pretty good considering the price and all. Everything is fresh and good quality, chef is super friendly and helpful. But the only thing yo keep in mind is that traditionally they don’t put too much other ingredients on a piece of sushi, but you’ll find a bit of American fusion here putting walnut and other ingredients to compliment the fish and rice, some people may find it distracting. Personally I like it without it, but this place is still worth a visit.
The best omakase experience I've ever had. The food was fantastic but what really blew me away was Mark our chef. He paced the pieces really well, was very clear about the names of each piece. The staff was extremely attentive. The dessert is a surprise because u don't expect such good pastries from a sushi restaurant.
Kissaki used to be one of my favorites. This was my fifth time going for omakase, and the sushi is not as good as it used to be. Still good quality, just not mind-blowing, and there are other restaurants that have better sushi at this price point. Service is usually pretty good, but this time we had a reservation and had to wait 30 minutes past the reservation time. They gave us a drink on the house for this, which we appreciated.
Staff was friendly though not overly engaging which I thought was nice. The meal definitely felt rushed even though was only 6 people in the restaurant at the time. Quality of sushi was mid considering price, only 1 to 2 pieces really stood out. They were also out a lot of things, half the sake menu wasn't available and they couldn't make a 3rd of their cocktails. Overall, I'm not upset that I went, but won't be going back.
There were two great things about this place: the waitress was incredibly gracious and she tries really hard, and there were many other diners who were attractive looking people in beautiful clothes. But food wise… meh. Unfortunately it was quite average for the price. We were sitting in front of the bath rooms and that wasn’t so good either.
Went to try their omakase and left feeling disappointed with the entire experience. Be warned - you get the entire 10 courses on a platter around 50 minutes after your appetizer. We were told that you must do the 15 course omakase for the ‘traditional’ experience. What a joke! Adding salt to the injury, the sushi was not good and we were told that we “didn’t need” wasabi and soy sauce as it was already seasoned. Avoid!
This is their "omakase". Don't go. We learned that their sushi bar is only for the people who order 15-course omakase on Fridays and Saturdays after we got the dish in the photo and that we were seated at their "drink bar" because we only got a 10-course omakase on a Friday. Never seen an omakase like this before.
