Back Pocket Bar in NYC is one of those hidden gems you stumble upon and can't help but love. My wife and I come at least once a month. It's cozy, with a great crowd and excellent music playing all the time. Everyone sings along to their favorite songs. The selection is just wine and beer, but it's a good one. Whether you're looking to start the night off right or wind down after a long day, this place is perfect. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a laid-back spot with great vibes and even better tunes.
Went with a couple of friends to catch up. Loved this place! Great wine and interesting drinks - especially the Sake Lemonade. Fantastic atmosphere with good music and a lively vibe yet still good for conversation. Will definitely return. Wine around $15/glass.
Such a cool little spot! Super easy to miss but definitely worth a visit. Love the fact that they give you some popcorn to snack on. Best thing is also that they have frozen Aperol spritzes. Amazing! Now for my standard COVID comments as of September 2022. No masks being worn but it’s no longer mandatory. Pretty small location but felt comfortable while it was not too crowded.
Overall rating: 4.8 Always a joy to visit. Drinks are top notch and bartenders are so nice! I like to come on a Saturday afternoon and just read a book. The popcorn is also so good and the drinks are very reasonably priced. Definitely have to come back when I get the chance.
Great neighborhood bar. They only have beer and wine. Great atmosphere. Great music.
A gem on this earth. Will forever bring friends here on Friday night for Monique, the immaculate vibes, and awesome drinks. This bar is a HK staple, and yes pocket bar is great too, but back pocket is 10x better. The community, wholesome. The vibes, electric. The bartenders, best there ever was. Literally Weiwei and Monique be putting in the work. Dancing, performing, making everyone feel welcome, and literally running the entire bar by themselves. My glass is never empty, there is always a good song on, hit it at the right time of night and everyone is out of their seat singing along. Could not recommend this bar enough to anyone looking for a perfect night out.
Ok so my friends and I decided to try this place since the bar we were originally going to meet up was too crowded and let me tell you it was the best decision of the night! Our bartender was a gorgeous girl name Moe and she was soooo helpful and so sweet and so much fun! She really made the entire experience a night to remember! Mo provided such great energy! She was simultaneously making drinks and playing dj from her own incredible playlist and hyping everyone up and dancing for us while also making sure we got out free popcorn snacks! She was a one woman show and we loved it! She had the entire bar dancing and singing along. It was like one of those movie scenes where a bunch of strangers become friends for a night and just truly have fun together and it was all due to her being such a positive energy! I asked her when she works and she said weds thru sat I believe because my friends and I definitely want to come back and see if we can experience this magical night again. Absolutely a million times would recommend! I give this place all the stars!
Love Back Pocket! Go to spot for great wine, great ambiance, and great company - be that with friends of the lovely and talented Monique. Crowd is normally good vibes and the music is always fun - expect many singalongs!
We stayed just a block away from this bar on our trip to New York. My wife and I stumbled into it while looking for a place to grab some drinks. Very small, but a super cool atmosphere. This ia a beer and wine venue. The bartender was super fun and welcoming. We had a few drinks, played three rounds of bingo and had a blast.
Amazing vibes always. Never ceases to amaze that Mo can run the whole bar alone never missing a beat and still give the level of personal attention to every patron. Caution: you will lose your voice singing along to all your favorite songs.
Such an inviting location. Great music, great vibes, great drinks . Mo was phenomenal and made this such an awesome experience. She went above and beyond to help us celebrate our bride to be 💍! 1,000 % recommend
We loved the vibe at this place. Great music. Simple drink menu of wine & beer. Friendly folks at the bar. Everything was chill. Spectacular service from Mo & Tiffany. Raffle night was a blast ! Don't want to tell too many people about this place. Want to keep it cool & intimate.
My absolute FAVORITE bar in NYC. This is the type of place you go to meet people and sing your heart out. Not a piano bar, but might as well be. A place you can go to truly be yourself and enjoy your evening. No pretense, no bad attitudes, just fun. The bartenders are fantastic and incredibly kind. 100% would recommend.
Such an amazing find in the heart of the Big Apple! It's places like this that make a night out in NYC so much fun. The staff are extremely hospitable and the regulars are super friendly. Love the wine and beer selections too. Don't miss out!
Such a gem! I love the vibe, friendly service and great drinks. Plus, it's great they're serving wine fresh and sustainably with reusable steel kegs. Look forward to visiting again soon!
Favorite bar in Hell’s Kitchen. They have struck a chic balance between intimacy, approachability. Perfect for close conversations during the week and fun dances on the weekends! And free popcorn?!?(^◇^)
The vibe in this bar is AMAZING and definitely because of the service. You walk in to a candlelit bar, a great playlist, and Mo- the most interesting, fun, bartender ever. She kept the drinks flowing, supplied accessories to add to the experience (we were celebrating a bride to be), and a never ending sing-along. Definitely a top notch experience. Drinks available wine, beer, and a delicious cider. There's also popcorn to snack on
Came here with my friends and we had a great experience! Pizza was hot and yummy and we recieved complimentary garlic knots and drinks! The owner was very kind. Definitely a great place to stop on a cold windy night!
STRAIGHT UP BETTER THEN JOES. Oh my god I have zero words to explain how much I love this place. First day I NYC we went to Joes pizza because “you HAVE to try it” holy waste of hours of my life for some mid pizza. Next day we’re going on the Rosevelt island tram hungry for some food see a pizza sign down the block walk in wow I don’t have words to explain how good of a decision that was. Service is insane so polite so nice so kind every word in the book they converse they answer the gazillion halal questions we had and offered us to even take extra water with us on our walk on our way out. Pizza which is what we went for was amazing SO MUCH BETTER THEN JOES holy the array of options and the quality of the dough killed Joes. When it comes to pizza crust and sauce are my favourite thing chewy but crispy crust is something that’s hard to come across and that’s what you’ll get here. Priced very good and very good size.
Casual slice and pie shop with a few tables and friendly, fast service. They asked if I liked basil and then piled it on, which was great. The vegan cheese melted nicely and while it doesn't have that stretchy mozzarella chew, it tasted good. The crust was classic New York style with a lot of cornmeal texture that made it extra crispy. We added eggplant, which was delicious, and shared a simple house salad. Nothing fancy but it was fresh and nice to have some veggies on the side. Prices are fair and everything came out quickly. If you need a pizza fix but can't do dairy, this place hits the spot. Would love to see vegan slices ready to grab, but if you can wait for a custom pie it's worth it. Clean, bright, and the open front will be great in summer.
We came from Roosevelt Island and just went to La Vista Pizza 2nd Ave for a slice of pepperoni. The place was not crowded, and we received our slices quite fast. When having the first bite, I immediately recognized that this pizza was really good. It was hot, had the right amount of tomato sauce and cheese, and a tasty pepperoni. This is exactly how a New York Pizza has to taste—it's the perfect baseline of a classic NYC pepperoni slice. We've been to other well-known pizza places, which are good, but La Vista Pizza is top!
We’ve eaten our way through dozens upon dozens of pizza spots across New York. Some are good, a few are great — but every now and then, one rises far above the rest. LaVista is that place. What sets them apart? They use all-beef pepperoni — a rare find in NYC — and they do it flawlessly. We don’t often declare a place ‘worthy of becoming a regular stop,’ but LaVista has officially earned that title. From the moment we walked in, Essam’s warmth and generosity made us feel like old friends. His hospitality alone is a solid 5/5 — and that’s before we even talk about the pizza. Now the pizza. Perfectly executed, with that unmistakable New York character: a crust that’s crisp with just the right char, toppings that are bold and balanced, and slices that demand your full attention. We tried the Hot Honey Pepperoni Ricotta and the Pepperoni with Pineapple. Both were loaded with pepperoni, bursting with flavor, and beautifully balanced. The sweet heat of the hot honey, the creamy ricotta, the tangy pineapple — my wife did a little happy dance after every bite. Next time, we’re coming back for the rainbow pizza (and probably everything else on the menu). LaVista is the real deal — and the only spot we’ve found in NYC serving non-pork pepperoni this well. Our only regret is not discovering it sooner. Thank you, Essam and team — you’ve got lifelong customers in us. Tldr; All beef pepperoni done right in NYC - finally! This place is a game-changer. Essam's great. The pizza had perfectly charred crust, bold flavors and generous toppings. The Hot Honey Pepperoni Ricotta is fantastic. Our only regret is not finding it sooner. Seriously good.
I randomly found this place on my first trip to New York — and it turned out to be such a great surprise! Issam welcomed us with a big smile and took the time to explain the whole menu: pizzas, pastas, sandwiches — everything. We ended up ordering: Pepperoni Pizza Margherita Pizza Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich All of them were delicious and honestly way better than I expected. The food was fresh, flavorful, and hit the spot. What made the experience even better was how friendly and generous Issam was. He even gave my son a cookie on the house — a small gesture, but it meant a lot. Also, one thing I really appreciated: the meat they use is pork-free. The pepperoni is beef, which is great news if you're looking for halal-friendly options. The pizza crust was thin, crispy, and full of flavor. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in the city. Highly recommend!
Cute spot great vibe! Candle-lit and dark. Wine & beer menu. The Sunshine IPA was super bitter though, and felt kind of expensive! ($11). Really enjoyed the atmosphere. Free popcorn is a nice touch. Cozy for sure! The height of the seats felt a little bit off with the high tables. Server had us clear the wrong bill which was not too big of a deal, but with only 4 or so customers, I think maybe that could be avoided in the future.
Fun little bar but tiny and super loud so plan to come here if you wanna drink and sing with your friends and not necessarily have a conversation of any kind!
I’ve had really wonderful experiences here. The bar is small, and bartenders here generally make the occasion feel warm and community-oriented. It is jovial and silly and warm. The selection of beer and wine is also excellent, and the free popcorn is a cute touch. Recently, a friend and I were having beers and catching up here. The bartender was friendly and attentive, and she seemed to imply she wanted to take a shot with us. She did this a few times, and we agreed to. At the end of the night, however, we found she had charged us for each shot. We expressed some surprise. She sort of shrugged and said “we do this thing called upselling.” We paid, of course, but the experience felt underhanded and strange in retrospect. Something to keep an eye on! Otherwise, a charming gem in West Manhattan.
Very disappointing service The food itself was good but unfortunately the service completely ruined the experience. I had a very unpleasant interaction with the employee who served me. I said hello and was completely ignored with no greeting or acknowledgment at all. What bothered me even more was that he handled the pizza with his bare hands which I found unhygienic and unprofessional. To make matters worse two other customers who were dressed in business attire were served at their table while I was told to carry my own food to the table. The difference in treatment felt unfair and uncomfortable. It is sad because the food was good but the service made me feel disrespected. Because of this I will not be returning and would not recommend this place based on how customers are treated.
