Had a Great time. Wonderful staff, excellent Beer Choices. Thank you Cit Hops. !
Small basic bar and looks more like a store from the outside. The manager and customers are real beer enthusiasts willing to welcome a stranger and share views on brews.
I was just there for a beer run, but the place seems amazing to step in, have a couple of beers and a great conversation.
Best beer store in the area. Tremendous selection. Also good spot to try a pint or taste of interesting craft brews. Friendly owners too.
Nice place to drink 1 or 3 beers waiting for the Roosevelt Tramway. Friendly bartender. P.S.: tell them about Tettnanger Hopfen😉😎
Looking for a pickup hoops game? You in the wrong place. Looking for a pickup bottle share? This is where you want to be. Excellent tap and cooler selection, reasonable prices. Small and cozy spot
Great service and awesome selection of craft beers! Descriptions are spot on, and every beer had a distinct and creative flavor. Well-curated craft beer shop!
We came here several times on our trip to NYC, the selection of beers and service are excellent
Great atmosphere and amazing selection of beers. Friendly staff that like to converse.
Best beer collection and vibe upper east side . Electic small town german pilsners, excellent sours and a broad range of IPAs are complimented by the generous beer afficianado owner/barman this place is thr best best best
Great selection of bottles and cans. The tap list is great featuring lots of local breweries. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable.
I'm Belgian and I can honestly say that this bar is awesome!! You wanna taste great and original beers from US or anywhere else, this is the place to go !!
he's literally so nice and so friendly. He would talk to u and make u feel comfy affff (besides that he's ready to offer u an iphone charger if ur on a battery emergency like me) 🫰🏻🫰🏻🫰🏻🫰🏻
Such an unexpected spot with an inviting and friendly staff. Fun selection. Rustic. LGM
Great selection of craft beer, friendly and knowledgeable staff, pet friendly, and a cozy great vibe. Can't ask for much more. Nick is the man 👍
Such an amazing Yankees bar.
Best craft beer and prices are great. They play great music. Greenpoint beer and ale black matte.. .amazing
An easygoing, laid back, craft beer bar that doubles as a retail craft beer store. Staff are very friendly. Also: super dog friendly, and allow people to bring in food or order delivery. My go-to bar for self outings or with friends who appreciate good beer. Only fits about 20-30 total people comfortably, so not for large gatherings!
This place is amazing - great selection of bottles and like 20 taps that rotate frequently throughout a great range of microbrewerys. Prices are amazing, especially if you are taking home a growler. Can't recommend them enough!
Small but great and unusual selection of beers. 12 taps of beers you won't find in many places. Plenty of cans if the taps don't excite you. A good wine selection if someone in your party doesn't want beer. It can get very crowded very quickly, as it is a small space. Lots of sports on the many TVs. Nice staff!
Great store with interesting bottled and canned beers both refrigerated and non. Also has a U-shaped bar to enjoy draft beers and cider with about a dozen on tap. Knowledgeable salespeople. Worth a pop-in for beer snobs.
Chill spot. Great selections (cold beer and clean taps). Also great spot to pick up some local canes beer.
Fantastic selection of bees to take home. Awesome sit down bar. Great rare bottles along side unusual imports and domestic craft beer. I really recommend it for a Belgian beer enthusiast.
Small and cozy spot with great beer selection on the tap, and HUGE beer selection from the bottle or can. You'll find what you're looking for no doubt! They even have DRAUGHT BEER TO GO!!! Prices are good and service is great! Drink in or take out ✌
A great place to drink great beer on decent price And have very unique conversations with nice people
Fantastic selection on draft and in cans, reasonably priced, and Jose is fun to hang out with. Also, good music. Wish I lived closer and could make this my local hangout.
Great beer bar with an extensive draft and can selection. On top of that, the bartender might be the best/nicest bartender I've encountered in the world.
Great beer. Cool vibe nice bartender. Go now it’s beer time!
Great selection of everything Beer wine tremendous nice clean cinfirtable place we lloved it.Jose took great care of us hes excellent very personable well be back highly recommend
Excellent beer shop and tap room with friendly staff. This spot has a great selection of bottles and cans with incredibly competitive pricing. Check them out.
It is a beer and wine place, amazing environment, good conversations, you'll find some snacks around too!!
Fantastically impressive selection of bottles and cans. Really great collection of beers on tap. Very friendly, helpful bartenders. And for dog owners, they're dog friendly! 🐕 can't think of a better beer destination in the Upper East Side. If you're interested he neighborhood, this is definitely worth stopping by for a round or more.
Fantastic place to either enjoy an excellent beer from their amazing draft selection, or buy some off-premise stuff to enjoy at home. It is not a huge place and they don't have dozens of taps. But, their selection is well-curated and the staff is knowledgeable. We went for one beer and ended up staying for hours enjoying the atmosphere and conversation. It is also on the quiet side so if you are looking to escape the sometimes deafening noise of other beer bars in the area, this is a welcome retreat.
Just wanted to give a shoutout to City Hops on 2nd b/w 60-61! This place is such a hidden gem with impeccable service, knowledgeable/personable staff. The vibes are immaculate overall. Even if you’re not a beer drinker, the team will find something for you in their huge selection of brews/bubbles/wine. My husband and I celebrated our birthday here last night with about 15 guests and we owe it all to Jose for taking great care of us. Give them a call for your next event or stop in for a drink and a round of darts! You can also bring your own food whether you’re hosting an event or just stopping in for a casual drink. 🍻
Great little bottle shop with amazing curated selection of craft beer, cider and wine on tap and similar selection in cans. Enjoyed a pint at the bar visiting with friendly staff and regulars. Keep up the great work and see you next time we’re in the neighbourhood.
FIRST THINGS FIRST- I’m from Connecticut, so places like this are very rare where I live. That being said, I wish this place would franchise in my neighborhood. We kind of randomly found this place after we trammed into the city from Long Island City. We actually went to the bar across the street first, and were glared at by everyone in there, making us well aware that we were NOT from around here. Needless to say, we left and ended up at City Hops. I’m so glad we did! I don’t like beer at all- it’s not my thing. My husband loves IPA’s and it was his birthday so I took one for the team and was hopeful they’d have a random bottle of wine or something. To my surprise, they had ciders! Which I absolutely love. The one I had was Berries and Cream something or other and it was a bit sour but very good. And very strong. The guy we talked to (who seemed like he was the owner) said they were working on their wine list again, so that’s a cool thing to know. He was very knowledgeable and helpful, and made us a 4-pack to go. A really great experience. And even though it was clear we were not “regulars”, the staff and guests alike make us feel very welcomed. Super chill vibe, really well done. Please come to Connecticut!!!!
Awesome small bar with great beers on taps that change quite often. The go to place to get the latest and greatest beer that is in short supply. The staff and the owner are well informed and are always there to help you enjoy a quality beer. I've been going here weekly for 3 months now and have never had an unhappy experience!
Made a quick stop here while visiting from the finger lakes region, as i was in pursuit of a sour beer that is not distributed in my area. They have a small, well-curated selection of beers and I liked that they had a dozen or so on tap. The guy working there was very knowledgeable, and I enjoyed tasting a flight of interesting beers. It's about 280 miles out of the way for me, or I'd stop in more often.
A very typical Newyork bar with lot of local good beer options
I was introduced to this place by my son-in-law. What a great little find! Good variety of unique beers and drinks and very knowledgeable and friendly owners and managers and loyal patrons. If I lived in NYC, I would be a regular. Give it a try; I think you will be one!
Great team with great drinks and snacks! Best beer shop in Midtown East friends
Rotating list of delicious beers on tap and even more in cans. As other reviewers have noted, Jose can provide some excellent recommendations. Wish they had flights, so I could sample more of the beers in the limited time I have in NYC. But if you're from the west coast, like I am, be sure to check out some of the east coast beers we don't get out on the west coast. I had the Life and Fate XXXI and Tripin on X IPA, both excellent.
Great craft beer and wine bar! The selection was incredibly vast and the owner was so knowledgeable and friendly. We stopped in for a quick beer and ended up staying a few hours and even had a few games of darts. Great spot!
I bought some good IPAs here and then I drank them and they made me feel funny. A++ Great variety of beers. Friendly staff. Prices are high but it’s NYC. We didn’t have a fridge in our hotel room so I put them on the air conditioning vent and cranked the AC and my wife got really mad. But, with my beer supply it was ok.
Small but big where it counts. Great service and beer selection. Josue and Jose know their beer and make a great atmosphere. So happy I made the detour to get there. Highly recommend if you are in the neighborhood.
What an excellent spot to chill and have a craft beer. Such a large selection it's hard to know where to start but once you do it's hard to stop. I really liked this place definitely need to return for more
My family and I visited this bar on 1/27/2024. We had just finished dinner at Tony’s Di Napoli and we were looking for a chill spot to have one drink while relaxing and talking. & this bar did not disappoint. The manager, Jose greeted us as soon as we walked in. He assisted us in choosing wine and beer (for myself). With his recommendation, I tasted my first beer from Guatemala called Gallo. The family and I were only planning to stay for a drink. We ended up staying for two bottles of wine. I definitely recommend this place for an hour or two of drinking and relaxing.
Amazing choice of craft beers and the perfect service with Jose and Elmer!
A friend and I rang in '25 here, and between the excellence of José and the beers, ciders, and wines on offer, if I lived nearer to City Hops, THIS would be my local. To have opened in April '23, when things were still post-COVID lockdown rebuilding, City Hops is a joy and, dare I say, something of a miracle. Drop by. What's on tap is matched by the excellent brands and bottles/cans sold here. Happy 2025!
Best bar in the city! Jose, Josue (my spellings are terrible) are some of the greatest gems of the city. When I say this bar could make you - I mean it. Most amazing experiences. If you come to NyC and you miss this bar, you will regret
Hands down the best beer and wine bar in NYC. The bartender Jose is extremely knowledgeable and passionate and his recommendations are always on point. It’s a friendly environment and a great place to meet and talk to folks from the neighborhood.
It is the closest thing to Cheers in the city. Regulars make friends with other regulars and make newcomers welcome as well! Jose is the best! AND... You can order in your own food! Isn't that special!
Came here as a tourist in need of charging my phone and requested a fruity beer. I was delighted with the good suggestions by the bartender. Cool to watch the passing by Roosevelt tram
What a great place. Jose is the most knowledgeable beer and wine afficianado I’ve seen in NYC. Half sommelier, half brewmaster! You will find obscure but fabulous samples of both!! Very friendly and diverse crowd, adding to the fun….
Love this place! Great and fun bar in the neighborhood! Cool vibes, great beer and wonderful staff! Always love coming to this place!
Best beer. Best wine. Best staff (dog included). Best neighborhood by far
Great vibe and best beer selection in the city. Jose has also not only cultivated an eclectic beer selection but also a tribe of regulars and wanderers that create a special local vibe and energy.
I had Root & Branch IPA, it was delicious. The server was very friendly. He explained the details of the beers. He even told us about the history of the place.
Loved our time here! We came because my mom was visiting and we were looking for a place to try different craft beers and this was hands down the BEST bar we could have chosen! Jose was amazing, the beers were great, and of course, we’ll definitely be back! 🤩
Cute little beer spot with an insanely huge selection so there's always something for everyone. Owner and bartender were super friendly and just a lovely vibe all around to have a chill beer.
City Hops has quickly become one of my favorite spots in NYC. They boast a fantastic selection of beers and wines, with a meticulous focus on quality. You're in for an absolute treat if Jose or Yuri are working the bar, as they are certified masters of their craft. There is even a dartboard if you want a quick break from watching the game. I highly suggest giving City Hops a try, but be careful: they do have beers with 12%+ ABV's!
Good casual and friendly spot! Lots of special draft beer options. The bartender was super friendly, offered beer tastings, and even brought water without asking. A fun, relaxed place to hang out.
Long overdue review for one of the best beer spots in the city. City Hops consistently has some of the most interesting beers in rotation, both on tap and in their fridges. Even better than the beer is the hospitality - the bartenders are super friendly and can always recommend you something that matches your preference (shout-out to Jose!) If beer isn't your thing, they also got a great selection of wines by the glass and plenty of non-alcoholic choices. Two TVs allow you to catch multiple games at the same time. But with its big picturesque windows, City Hops is also the perfect place to grab a drink and watch NYC life pass by. Other facts - Dog friendly! - Located near the Roosevelt island tram, Q60 & Q101 buses, 59th & Lex subway station (NQRW6) - No corkage fee for items purchased in-house - Snacks for purchase - Mets friendly bar! #LGM
This is a small bar but holds so much character and charm to it! I was told about this place from a friend, and I'd effortlessly recommend it. The bartender is so kind and attentive. Highly recommend stopping in for a drink (or six lolol). 😊😊 Also they let my husband randomly do a card magic trick. The trick itself is probably a 5/10, but I loved how the bartender liked it.
This places is consistently a good spot. The place itself is pretty small. The usual bartender is friendly and engaging. He’s cool with you trying a few beers before getting a full drink. They have a regular changing beer menu and a darts board to pass the time. They also have fun snacks on the side that you can buy to snack on!
Had an awesome experience here, good crowd, great bartenders who knew what was up when it came to suggesting beers. And after a few sent my on my way to their favourite spot to get my first chopped cheese and how to order it to really immerse myself in the NYC culture. Top notch service and selection of drinks. 120% recommend to locals and tourist alike. Will be back here without a doubt
Great selection of beers with excellent prices. A team that provides excellent and wholehearted service with a deep understanding of the world of beer. Excellent beer experience, highly recommend to any Kraft beer lover traveling in the area. You can also take individual beers at a reduced price to go.
Tiny, but with a good selection of interesting beers, including several on tap. Enjoyed a Hill Farmstead IPA while I was there. Priced are very fair...
Great beer, friendly service. Simple bar to enjoy that local draft and also an awesome selection to take home.
Small place with a great beer selection on the go. They are a little limited with their selection on tap. Most of the beers were from other places. The only reason this place doesn't have 5 stars is because of their lack of local beers on tap. The beers they did have were fantastic. Glenn and the other bartender knew what they were doing and had great chemistry with clients. I will be back here.
My gf and I went here, it was really small but the owner was really knowledgeable. He gave us free samples of beer and then order a regular size drink. I felt very claustrophobic but he made the best use of the space.
Pretty solid selection. But middling prices, average service, and lack of atmosphere make it just an adequate place to pick up a craft beer.
If you like craft beer cans to go, this is your best bet in the neighborhood. The selection varies, depending on the day and time you arrive, and prices can be high, but the same is generally true of craft beer. There are also a number of beers on tap, should you desire to sit down and enjoy a pint or four. I've only been here during the day during the week, but it's never been particularly crowded with drinkers.
Maybe I didn't do my homework but it just wasn't what I was expecting. Admittedly I am an IPA guy and I didn't find their selection too impressive. For the price I would probably rather just enjoy the atmosphere at a nice restaurant. Was a great spot to stop in for a quick drink though.
The beer selection here is phenomenal and the prices aren't too bad for craft beer in Manhattan. But be warned, the crowd in here is pretty rough. It's full of people having overly earnest, pseudo-intellectual conversations just a touch too loudly, speaking for the benefit of those around them. Dudes with man-buns discussing their Bitcoin holdings, how the #metoo movement is great but could be more effective, what Trump's ascension truly says about America, that sort of thing. I've popped in for five minutes at least a dozen times and every single time I have never been more excited to leave a place. It's essentially the Rick & Morty of beer stores - it's great in-and-of itself but its fans make you want to vomit.
On this past fine sunny saturday afternoon my friend took me to this place and we had an experience that was borderline twilight zone. Beer and beverage options were great, not overwhelming, and overall atmosphere was mediocre at best. It was overly warm inside the space, but the painstaking lack of service toward us was unlike anything I've yet to experience in NYC. Immediately noticing that we were not attended to like the OTHER TWO customers at the venue, we whispered amongst ourselves why this injustice was unfolding. Its not like we were consuming $1 Natty ice.. Needless to say, a dog got probably 10x more attention than we did, and i, in the future, would not even come stumbling in blackout drunk to use the toilet
We just stopped at this place a couple of month ago to take out some beer. They offered to taste 4 small samplers for $10, which sounded reasonable. Most of the choices were not that good, but one was okay. Then we asked how much is one 36 oz bottle and the barman told that it is $12 each. So we ordered two bottles and asked for the final bill. We expected that to be $10+2*$12=$34 plus some tax. Simple math, right? No, the bill was $104 (3x times more!). For the two bottles of beer? Seriously? The guy just lied us about $12/bottle. It was a price for an empty glass! And that mediocre beer is sold for the price of aged whiskey. It is not a right way to do the business to lie to your customers and steal their money. I feel like I got robbed! Avoid this place! There are much better honest places nearby.
I just walked into this bar to kill some time, there were 2 open bar stools with empty drinks in front of them so I politely asked the bartender if anyone was sitting there, she was flirting with guys next to me and acted like I i was interrupting her, she told me they were sitting there and I should ask them, any decent bartender would’ve asked me what I wanted to drink and asked the guys if I could sit there. Will never go back. It wasn’t even packed to justify. If a bartender doesn’t make me feel welcome i will never stay or respect an establishment.
I am dealing with diabetic that is new for me some time, I had an emergency and need to use a bathroom, I went into this place to ask politely if I could use the bathroom, and they refused with no explanation he say no sorry bro! The guy just answer no without any explanation. I will never spe d a dollar here.
