The vegan dipping udon is SO GOOD! The flavor is incredible. So nice to have a vegan option and it is also amazing. Second time here and will be coming back again.

M
Maggie Huang

I got the signature set and it was delicious!! Recommend to eat it quickly or the udon will stick. Shrimp and Japanese potato tempura was my favorite. I thought the bacon was a bit too salty. You order through the QR code by seat (and tip) so it’s super seamless and quick! Warning: there is no restroom here!!

R
Rovik Robert

Efficient spot for very good udon. Love the tempura prawn and bacon, as well as the other accompaniments. It’s a unique experience and you can order on your phone while you’re in there. Worth a visit

M
Marie U

This udon spot specializes in udon dipping, and even if you’re not familiar with the style, there’s no need to feel intimidated—they explain everything clearly and walk you through the dish. I had their signature set. The udon was chewy and bouncy, just the right texture. The tempura was fresh and crisp, a solid contrast to the noodles. Next time, I’ll probably swap out the tempura bacon, as it was a bit salty for my taste. It’s also a perfect place for solo diners. Even though ordering and paying is done online, the staff were attentive and helpful throughout the meal.

J
Jasmine Feng

I really enjoyed this style of udon as I've never tried it before. The noodles have a wonderful chew to them, and the dipping sauce in the signature set is delightfully fragrant. I was pleasantly surprised by the bacon tempura, which wasn't too greasy. The other tempura were very good as well. The service was friendly and quick once we were seated, but we did have to wait a little over 45 min on line. It was a nice night to chat on line though!

They do udon or soba in soup or tsukemen style served with tempura and that's it...and they do it REALLY WELL. Delicious. The tempura is light and delicate..a riff is tempura bacon, which was good but the veggie tempura pieces were even better. I got the tsukemen style with very wide (around 1.5") flat noodles, great chew and bounce, a little tough to pick up, lol. The dipping broth is well balanced and flavorful. This is a tiny place, counter seating only. Great for solo dining or with 1 other person.

J
Jacqueline

I got the Himokawa dipping udon set with tempura and it was so good! The noodles were perfectly cooked and chewy and the tempura were not greasy with a thin coating. The sauce that they gave to dip the udon was my favourite part. Loved the slight hint of yuzu! Near the end, the udon at the bottom were really difficult to separate so that’s the only thing that bothered me. We came at around 7:00pm on a Sunday and were lucky enough to get seated almost right away with around a 5 minute wait. They close a little early on Sunday at 8pm, so keep that in mind when visiting.

D

This place is very popular, and on weekends at lunchtime you’ll likely need to wait for a table unless you arrive right when it opens. That said, the wait usually isn’t too long. Their specialty is a variety of udon and cold noodle dishes—the noodles are springy and unique, and the toppings are well-seasoned without overwhelming the natural flavor of the noodles. The way the dishes are enjoyed also feels distinctive, making it a spot well worth visiting.

R
Robbin

If you haven't tried Japanese wide flat udon, this is the place for you. The sets are of high value including the udon and assortment of tempuras. I highly recommend the cold dipping udon because you can taste the original flavor/texture of the udon and the complexity of the dipping sauce (even the yuzu fragrance). The hot soup udon doesn't do that as much. But mind you: dishes here center around carbs so if you are looking for more meat/protein heavy for, this place might not be for you.

I
Isabella Grandic

This was so yummy! And value for money! I liked the cold udon yuzu noodle situation a lot. The chicken soup was also good. Very fast service! They only seat full parties. At 7:15 on a Sunday, we (2 ppl) waited for like 10 mins. But by 8pm, there was a massive line

S
Stegramedia

Probably some of the best udon in NYC I’ve ever had. Very simple menu, but in this case less is more because anything you order will be done so well. I ordered the hot chicken udon which came with the most delicious piece of tempura bacon. Service is incredible and extremely fast. Not many seats so either get there early or be prepared for a short wait. Would suggest going alone or just in a group of 2.

B
Benjamin Wong

A bit pricey imo for the signature set, but was overall delicious and surprisingly filling. I’ve never had this style of udon, so I can’t attest to the authenticity (even though there’s bacon tempura lol) The workers there were very sweet and helpful. Went for lunch on a weekday and it was pretty much empty.

Mamoun’s Falafel is one of the tastiest, most reliable spots for a quick Middle Eastern bite, and it never disappoints. The falafel is crispy, flavorful, and super satisfying every single time, amazing sandwiches, which is why it is so easy to keep going back. After what feels like 100 visits, the place really feels like a favorite go-to for a fast, delicious meal.

Just as good as it was decades ago! I first went in the mid 70's and falafels were.75 cents 😂it's still very affordable. The service was excellent and friendly. I received a piece of baklava due to a short delay as I ordered after a big order. Really delicious, wonderful NYC experience.

There really is no shawarma in the city like the one here (not even the other Mamoun locations). Everything from the type of pita to the spices and ingredients used in the sandwhich screams authenticity. The shawarma here takes me back, every single time

Mamouns is a staple and a must-go whenever I'm in the city. Super friendly, super delicious, super quick. Shawarma is :chef's kiss: and the falafel is so so good. If you like babaganoush, I really have to say it's some of the best I've ever had ❤️ (cards/Google/Apple pay accepted, but a discount for cash) Cannot wait to stop into macdougal st again :)

Excellent falafel shop near Washington Square Park with generous servings for the price. Outdoor seating on a classic Village street makes it a great stop for falafel.

Well, we visited as part of a food tour of NY. Being quite frank, if we had been by ourselves we might well have walked right past Mamoun's; it doesn't have the greatest frontage, and some might be put off. But oh, my! Get in there and have yourself the best falafel around. We've travelled to many parts of north Africa and the Middle East and I can honestly say that this is the best falafel we have had - especially with that brutally gorgeous hot sauce (two bottles purchased to take back to the UK). Definite revisit required!

Wow, this place was amazing. The shawarma had the perfect balance of perfectly seasoned meat and refreshing vegetables. The falafel was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Their menu offers great quality at very affordable prices. Just a heads-up, they only take cash, so come prepared

If you’re going to eat falafel in manhattan, this is the only one worthy of going to. One of the oldest falafel spots in the US and it’s delicious. Prices are also still reasonable for the area.

Straight up solid falafel and shawarma pitas. The falafel is light and delicious and the shawarma is browned and savory. Hummus is smooth as butter. Hot peppers, spice, tahini makes the flavor POP. 1 or 1 tables inside, so be prepared to sit outside at one of their covered tables.

One of the best meals I had in NYC AND it was the cheapest! Mind blown! Thank you yelp & google for steering me to Mamoun’s! Just a tiny hole in the wall falafel place near NYU with tons of veggies options. I opted for a plate & my husband got a sandwich and we both crushed our lunches! So fresh, tasty, authentic, and wholesome. And I can’t believe all this food totaled to $17! (FYI they are cash only) 1000% recommend esp if you are vegetarian

Came here at 5pm on a Friday alone and no wait at all. The menu is simple, focusing on Himokawa udon sets. The tempura here is well made and not overly greasy, pairing well with the dipping sauce. The only drawback was the saltiness of the hot broth - I tried drinking it alone and it was unbearable. Considering this wasn’t the cold dipping noodles, I assumed that this broth would be less concentrated and more clear. Service was great and as a solo diner, I didn’t feel rushed at all. Overall, I would recommend people to visit at least once, but would personally not rush back.

S
Stephy Leung

the tempura has a light, thin batter that pairs nicely with the dipping sauce, making it very refreshing. The wide udon noodles have an interesting texture, but the soup base itself is a bit underwhelming.

K
Kevin Y

Overall a decent meal. The cold noodle set with the katsu is a must get. The soup noodle is very salty and mid but that comes with Japanese soup I guess. It’s a bit pricey but decent experience

S

Visited on a weekend afternoon after hearing about their flat udon noodles served tsukemen-style. The place has a Japanese bar vibe with only counter seating—no tables. Ordering is done by scanning a QR code at your seat, but I found it uncomfortable that you’re asked to tip before your food even arrives. My friend got the hot udon and I had the tsuke cold udon. Both came with six flat noodles and tempura. The food tasted good, but the portion felt small for the price, which was disappointing. The biggest letdown was that there’s no restroom available. It’s worth trying once for the unique noodles, but I probably won’t be back.

A

Good place to grab a quick meal, either by yourself or with one other friend (bar-style seating). The udon portion doesn’t look like much, but was surprisingly filling with the tempura. Delicious, though not at Raku quality.

K

Udon noodle was great. But the chicken broth was salty in my taste. I liked the cold fish broth udon better. Their shrimp tempura was salty as well. It was a good shrimp tho. I would've ordered 5 myself if it wasnt salty. There can be a wait so I recommend going in a bit earlier than usual dinner time if going for dinner.

Been coming to this location for many years. Absolutely delicious food and the atmosphere brings back great memories. But lately I have noticed things are definitely changing. They got rid of their original homemade lentil soup. They now serve some ready made soup instead. Definitely not the same experience. Last time I was there, they were all out of shawarma and lamb kebab. They only had falafel, kofta and chicken kebab, at 9pm! I’ve been to this place hundreds if not thousands of times, never have I seen them be out of any kind of dish. It’s not the end of the world but when you take a long trip for over an hour to grab some good old shawarma sandwiches just to find out that they’re all out, it’s disappointing. I have been to some of their other locations but nothing beats an original location. I hope they bring back some of the old experience and continue to keep this place great as it always has been.

Said to be the best Falafel in New York and it certainly did not disappoint. I am not too much of a fan of falafel, but this is pretty good. The sauce is a little bit too sour to my taste.

Amazing and generous falafel sandwich, very well priced too. The cashier at the counter accepted to put my order into my container :). However please put in place the compost and recycling bins. There is only a bin for landfill. This would make a massive difference for your business as well if you had a bin for the compost in your place and encourage people to put their plates, napkins and food leftovers there! We can reduce waste all together.

The udon texture is great—nice and chewy but not overly so. Tempura is also solid, especially the bacon one. It’s my first time trying bacon tempura and it was surprisingly good. The dipping udon broth is flavorful, and with all the extra seasonings, you can switch up the taste, which is fun. But the hot soup version was way too salty for me. That said, the set costs around $22–23 and only comes with six noodles… I mean, seriously? I’m not even exaggerating—it was literally six noodles.

the noodles were unique - we tried the signature dipping set and broth set. my favorite was the sweet potato tempura. we waited almost an hour on saturday evening.

This place used to be THE spot the whole Indian vegetarian community in New York used to order their falafel from. Like all the time! There was a nostalgia tied to this place that I could just not shake off. So yesterday, after watching a Broadway musical, I hoped on the subway and went to MacDougall street to get a to-go Hummus pita. While the taste of the hummus is good, the overall meal was super bland. There was literally just lettuce, a few pieces of cubed tomatoes and a good amount of hummus inside the pita. I wish they had added some hot sauce, some tabouleh, some za'atar to make it flavorful. So yeah, spent $7 for nostalgia's sake but really nothing memorable about the food any longer.

I tired this place because it seems iconic and recommended but to be honest it fell a little flat for me. I ordered the lamb pita sandwich to try on my visit. Truthfully it lacked anything to make it feel special and worth the trip besides the fact that it was reasonably priced. The meat was a little chewy, the lettuce tasted like pre-chopped butter lettuce from a Trader Joe’s bag, and the toppings lacked depth. I wouldn’t recommend this spot given how many other spots you have to choose from in New York.

Food: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Atmosphere: 1/5 The falafels were no doubt the star of the show. I got some falafels and the falafel sandwich. I found the sandwich to be tangy and sour. I’ve had better sandwiches. The falafels themselves on their own were quite good! Service was fast. It is a hole in the wall with 2 tables with 2 seats inside the place. They have a makeshift seating outside which is really in bad shape. I wanted to enjoy my meal here but the seating made it difficult to do so. I know it’s New York City, and space is not plentiful. Next time, I’ll try the chicken shawarma.

One guy. Working today (Friday 12/26/2025). I asked for falafel, but he charged me for a shawarma. I didn’t notice. But I asked again, how many come with one order?. He replied, 3. After 2 minutes, he served 2 showrma. If he didn't understand my word how can he say, 3?. I had never put 1 star on a review as I am also a worker. But he is a liar and unprofessional. Finally, I told him that maybe I did wrong. He was laughing. He is a poison for this store. Bad and unprofessional service and dishonesty are visible. Please take care of this circumstance.
