Opinions de Marc Forgione New York
I’m not sure why the signage & menu’s say Forge & online it’s called Forgione. I know it’s the owners name. This was really the only hiccup I had. I decided to meet up here upon advice, and with a close friend who, like me are pseudo foodies with a carnivorous appetite that day. I’ve read great reviews and was impressed that this chef has/had Michelin Star ratings. You’ll spend serious green back here, so be prepared. Although some plates are in the triple digits, it’s really not that uncommon…at least with steakhouses. For some it included several pairing dishes. This would make great location for a power lunch during the day or date night. This lower Manhattan location is well kept and quite close to other sites. I found the pacing & some typical etiquette slightly off key in some cases. It’s really not a big deal, but it stuck out. Food wise a lot of detail went into plating & rich savory dishes that were certainly bespoke. The Tomahawk steak shareable was impressive as it was timed well and rendered in a nice blend of butter, oil, & spices…memorable. We didn’t order a lot of dishes, but enjoyed what we had. The menu selection is small, yet offered a nice balance of poultry, beef, & fish. It’s a bit comical as the food section felt hidden amongst the drink selection. Note, you’ll find an wider, higher end range of spirits to pair or enjoy solo. Would I go here again and recommend? Yes. I’m no Andrew Bourdain, however like him I’ve traversed the globe several times, trying to savor the taste of the different regions. This isn’t my first Michelin-esque eatery. I’ll say this, impressive. Enjoy.
Since 2016, we have had the pleasure of dining at your original location on Reade St. This visit marked our first experience at the new location, which is truly breathtaking. Our friends from Ireland, who joined us for dinner last night during their honeymoon, said it the finest dinner they had ever had. We wholeheartedly agree. The cuisine was absolutely exquisite! The service, food, and ambiance were, as always, exceptional and consistent. Our server, Molly, was outstanding and charismatic. She kept us laughing throughout the evening and was on top of asking about food allergies, which was very important since I recently developed allergies to hazelnuts. The entire team, including the lovely hostesses that greeted us with a warm welcome, Mez, Griffin, Darren, and Robert, provided attentive service, ensuring our every need was met. Your team is truly exceptional. We eagerly anticipate our next visit. Excellent job, Chef Forgione!
We had an amazing experience at Forgione. From the moment we walked in, the host set the tone with a warm welcome and great service that carried through the entire evening. The food was outstanding; the ravioli and spaghetti were perfectly prepared, the steak was cooked beautifully, and the egg dessert was one of the highlights of the night (creative, delicious, and memorable). Every dish felt thoughtful and elevated, and the atmosphere was relaxed yet special. Highly recommend for anyone looking for incredible food paired with genuinely attentive service.
My experience at forgione was pretty good. I believe my waiter was in training but the service was still excellent. Virgin Cantaloupe Daiquiri was nice. The duck in a jar was delectable, one of the better pates I’ve had. Laotian sushi was missing that green sauce underneath on the first piece but was otherwise delicious. The hiramasu was a work of art and I enjoyed the presentation and flavors. The sichuan flower was a great touch. Chili Lobster was more of a thin bisque but had great flavor, lobster was cooked perfectly. Enjoyed the garlic butter toasted bun. I only wish there was more. Chicken under a brick was also delicious. Chicken was juicy, skin was crispy. Potatoes were nicely cooked and absorbed a good amount of flavor. Unfortunately, two of my broccoli rabe pieces were burnt and that messed up the start of the dish. Mille Feuille was good enough, pastry was nice and soft, with a solid shell. I should have picked a different dessert. Would recommend, will try again with another person this time.
We really enjoyed our dinner at Forgione last night. Loved the chili lobster as well as the rabbit tartare appetizer special. The monkfish and pork chop were excellent as well. Great seasonal drinks and fun vibrant atmosphere. Service was attentive and friendly. We will definitely return.
The food is excellent, the service is good, and the upscale, rustic room has always been one of our favorites in NYC. Marc Forgione is Perfect For those times ...motivated on this job. Marc Forgione is an open guy to cool techniques and brings them to the menu of the ...
Amazing food!! My fiancee and I gone every year for our anniversary and it never disappoints! Be bold and get the tomahawk for 2 for yourself!!
Such a beautiful evening celebrating my partner’s birthday. We were treated so well! Laurent was our server. He made us feel at ease and really leveled up the overall experience. The food was wonderful. A mix of delicate and bold flavored dishes. My personal highlights were the french onion soup ravioli to start, the halibut main and the sticky toffee pudding dessert. They all made me smile. Thank you so much for a very beautiful and memorable evening.
Unique dishes that pack flavor. Their signatures such as the lobster and chicken under brick are worth sticking to regular programming. Didn’t love the notkitori as it was on the saltier side. The Egg dessert is worth saving space for. Pretty good wine list here too.
Over the top experience. The new space has the same comforting feeling as the original. The food was phenomenal. The kitchen is turning out great dishes . Everything was delicious from start to finish. The pastas were outstanding. The lobster was great . The sauce was over the top. Save room for dessert because it was extra delicious. Everything was excellent for our table this evening. Wishing Chef Marc and his team years of continued success. Thank you .......
Went here for a Thursday business meeting. Just amazing. The ravioli was the best I ever had. Here's a tip, just order "The Egg" for dessert. Try it, delicious and unique. Wow
This is not just farm to table. It's an experience. Firstly, finger foods literally is meant to be eaten with the fingers. Then comes everything else. The quality of food, the flavors and unique items. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The ambiance was warm yet upscale. Great birthday dinner for sure.
The new location of Marc Forgione does not disappoint. Food: Solid. We got the Laotian sushi, sourdough bread, lobster appetizer and lamb main. All very delicious. I wish the lamb was a bit warmer, came closer to room temp. The dessert cookies are insane Atmosphere: rustic and cool american vibes
Had a great experience here. The chicken under a brick was phenomenal. Definitely a sharing plate between 2-3 people, perhaps even 4 if you're light eaters. We started with the bread and butter. It was great. Loved the onion butter. The chicken under a brick was exceptionally excellent. Highly recommend. And we finished it off with the cookie and melted ice cream desert. It was the perfect amount of sweetness. Also best if shared between 2-4 people.
Came here for dinner. I like the decorations and lighting. I ordered the Hiramasa tartare, and the famous chicken under a brick (in half size, for myself). I like the flavor for both dishes and my taste bud was activated joyfully. Will come back for more dishes.
Delicious and fancy restaurant. Known for spectacular Chili Lobster, steak and chicken dishes. Highly recommend! New location has a great vibe.
The staff! The drinks! The food! Is all top shelf! Pretty impressive cocktail menu here. More impressive was I couldn't stop after having just one. The food selection is perfect! Not an overwhelming amount of options which is a good sign they do a few things and they do them very well. We had the porterhouse steak for two. It was as delicious as it was beautiful in the presentation. Great appetizers, great wine list, great desserts, great coffee. I'm happy to have found this fine dining experience in Tribeca
Marc Forgione always delivers a memorable experience. We’ve been coming here for 8+ years and have never had a bad experience. Getting a res can be challenging, but it’s usually pretty easy to get seats at the bar and sometimes this ends up being even more fun! Menu items not to be missed are the Hiramasa (you’ll dream about this dish), Chili Lobster (ask for extra toast to scoop up all of the broth), and Chicken under a brick. This time around for mains, we opted to try something outside of the Chicken and went for the Duck and Oxtail pasta, both were delicious! We always enjoy our time at Forgione and look forward to the next one! **Final note: the bartender was truly fantastic and was killing it the whole night while making cocktails for the entire restaurant and servicing guests at the bar, truly impressive. Wish we got her name!!
I came to this restaurant last week and I can tell is one of my favorites In tribecca. Food, drinks, desserts, everything was delicious. Also the place is fancy and has a great ambience. Thanks to Luis for his attention, he gave us the best recommendations 🍹
Hopping vibe here at Forgione. Aged Tuna Crudo starter special very good. Halibut on cauliflower purée absolutely excellent. Lamb Roundhouse with lamb neck croquettes soooo unique. Highly recommend.
We had our Anniversary dinner here and loved everything. We basically ordered everything on the menu cause it’s hard to choose. The chef and the bakery chef are talented and mastered the art of flavors. Plus, my husband and I love the letter from the Forge Fam. Thank you for this beautiful night.
Food and cocktails were excellent!! Even though our table wasn’t ready at the time of our reservation, staff were apologetic and comped a glass of wine and an appetizer for the wait. The atmosphere of this restaurant is very cozy and overall we had a great time! We would definitely come back.
I don’t give 5 stars. This Tribeca mainstay is one I would recommend for any occasion, from the fanciest to an easy night out. The staff is friendly and professional with a sommelier who knows their wines and a customized menu by Marc Forgione himself. Over the many years of coming here, I have my faves which include the hiramasa, the lobster, the chicken, the proposal sauce and anything on that dessert menu. On this particular day, I had The Egg. Wow! Go!
When you enter you feel a very comforting ambiance. It is definitely a warm homie feeling. I'm very pleased with their menu and what they have to offer. Yes it is pricey but it is definitely worth the flavor the you will experience. I would highly recommend this place if you're on a date it doesn't matter what age you are because this place is impressive. I'm looking forward to my next visit once the weather gets a little better.
Very impressed by the quality of the food, the setting and the professional service. My favorite dish were the BBQ oysters, just delicious. Also, save some room for your dessert as the freshly baked cookies were incredible. Two points of feedback: 1. the pacing could be improved, we started with very tiny dishes and finished with a huge main. 2. There should be more washrooms in a restaurant like this.
The meal was whimsical, inventive, light, and delicious. We really enjoyed the combination of different flavors, temperatures and textures. The atmosphere was inviting, rustic with a nice mix of industrial touches. The attentiveness of the entire staff was appreciated and noted. We are looking forward to returning.
Visited this hidden gem in Tribeca for dinner during the week. Excellent food and service. All the dishes were great. I would come back again to try their pastas.
Another wonderful experience at Marc Forgione! I've been here a few times and always really enjoyed the entire experience. From the moment you walk in all the little details are thought of, the waitress even commented on our booking information which made it feel personal. Food was delicious! We had the rolls, lobster croquettes, roast potato ravioli, halibut, monkfish curry and 10 minute cookies. Also the margaritas were perfect. Thank you for everything, we look forward to returning.
Romantic, cozy, and dimly lit Michelin starred restaurant in Tribeca that fires on all cylinders! From the ambiance to the suave service, from the starters to the dessert, everything was top notch! With a small seasonal menu, the chef doesn't fail to disappoint on any item. The ravioli were tasting many quality, savoring every bite. The duck with cherry sauce was among the best duck dishes we've had, and the chicken under a brick was 120% something to write home about. Absolutely elegant in its simplicity! I love to cook at home and it got me thinking how I could recreate something this amazing with beautiful ingredients! The "egg" dessert is a surprise, but it's like something out of a Netflix cooking show, spectacle and flavor in every bite!! Don't hesitate to splurge on an evening here!!
Food is very delicious. You can taste the high ingredients they use. They did a good job of getting the lamb smell out. The seasoning is on point. Customer service is probably the best in the city so far
What a phenomenal, perfect experience at Forge. Last night my husband and I went to Forge for our anniversary. From being greeted with a handwritten "happy anniversary" card and a complementary glass of bubbles through the entire, delicious meal, to the thank you when we left was absolutely stunning. This is an amazing place. The food was the best we've eaten in nyc in a long time; 2+ years at least. AND THE BREAD - oh my goodness, insanely delicious. The music isn't blaring so loud that you have to shout to each other. And the service was exceptional. Yes it's pricey but you absolutely still feel like you get more than you pay for. We won't soon forget this; thanks to the whole staff. (Tomahawk meal, chili lobster, sourdough bread/duck-in-a-jar is the way to go.)
Squeezed us in last minute for my dad’s birthday when other plans fell through. In retrospect we were glad they fell through because the food drinks wine and service were a delight. Thank you to the entire team for a memorable birthday dinner!
Absolutely amazing service. We walked in to place a small to go order and Summer went above and beyond to help us and make us comfortable while we waited. Summer set a new standard for hospitality. Can't wait to eat in person
Summer helped us when we first walked into the restaurant and was roped into helping our table, and when she saw we had sushi on the table said "that's one of my favorite dishes, it's pretty much the perfect bite." That one observation was really a theme for the entire night, every dish we ordered was really thought out to make the perfect bite. Sushi (don't freak out at the greens on top people just eat it), lobster+roll, pork+veg, the hiramasa, perfect bites just like an album you have to play from start to finish and not skip around songs. Service was top notch (thanks Keyel!), somm was helpful (who has Aligote in the US?! amazing), a truly delightful and delicious night out with the mrs.
We were stuck in traffic and were late by 45 minutes for our reservation. Our host checked on us over texts and they were extremely accommodating even though they couldn’t hold the table for so long during holiday season. They gave us options and kept checking in on us if we were comfortable. The guests were friendly, and share their recommendations with us. Great choices and we had some amazing food! Id come back again!
Had such a lovely experience here! The service is some of the best in NY. We had the chicken, and salmon and both were cooked perfectly. Will definitely be back!
My parents and I traveled to NYC last weekend and were able to snag a Friday dinner reservation. Pro tip: book in advance because they fill up! We’d heard wonderful things about Forgione and we were so excited to experience it firsthand. Firstly, the staff is top notch: Wilson and Robert were very attentive and knowledgeable (not to mention, hilarious!), and Andrew gave exceptional wine recommendations! They listened to our preferences and made thoughtful recommendations that exceeded all our expectations. I highly suggest trusting the staff’s recommendations - I promise you won’t be disappointed. Whether you’re dining with family, friends, for business or for a date night, the ambiance at Forgione fits all occasions. From the moment we arrived until we left (bellies stuffed) everyone at Forgione made sure our experience was unforgettable.
Came here on a whim and we loved it - the duck in a jar, the chili lobster, and the cavatappi were huge standouts. Loved the egg too! It's a surprised but you will love it regardless of if you like creamier deserts vs fresh ones. Want to point out that they gave us free sweets to take home at the end to take home (banana bread I believe), which was really nice of them, but both of the pieces we got had mold on them when we checked next morning even though we refrigerated them basically within <10 minutes of leaving the restaurant. So, appreciate it regardless and don't want to ding them since it was free but heads up for the restaurant!
Forgione is an absolute gem in the heart of the city, offering a dining experience that is as sophisticated as it is approachable. From the moment you step in, you're greeted by a warm, inviting atmosphere that strikes the perfect balance between modern elegance and rustic charm. The ambiance is intimate, making it ideal for both special occasions and casual dining alike. We started with the crispy artichokes, which were perfectly fried and served with a tangy dipping sauce. The roasted bone marrow was a standout – rich, flavorful, and decadent, served with toasted bread that perfectly complemented the richness of the marrow. For the main course, I had the ribeye steak, and it was absolutely divine – tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection, with just the right amount of seasoning. My companion opted for the braised short ribs, which were so tender that they practically melted in your mouth. Both dishes were accompanied by an assortment of delicious sides, including creamed spinach and garlic mashed potatoes, which were the perfect complement to the hearty mains. The wine list is extensive, with excellent recommendations from the sommelier that paired beautifully with our dishes. Service was impeccable throughout the evening – attentive, knowledgeable, and with just the right balance of professionalism and warmth. Forgione is a place that takes pride in offering a well-curated, top-quality dining experience, and it shows in every aspect – from the food to the service to the ambiance. It’s the perfect spot for a memorable meal, and I can’t wait to return!
Hands down one of my favorite restaurants in nyc. Exceptional service, great cocktails, and the best chicken I’ve ever had. Highly recommend!
Cocktails fabulous . Duck sausage cavatappi outstanding /!\ Burger very tasty (with fries) . Brick Chicken was moist and tender under a crispy skin . Gelato and sorbet (unique mulled wine) finished an excellent meal . Thanks to all staff for a perfect experience .
Menu is small but food was good, small inside so make sure you make a reservation. Service was good and staff was attentive and friendly.
Beautiful restaurant with excellent atmosphere for any sort of gathering. Out of all the food we ordered we enjoyed: - agnolotti: super creamy and perfectly cooked, portion size is small but pretty heavy. - brick chicken: this was really well done especially for the price, the skin was perfectly crispy - cookie with ice cream I thought could probably skip: - Laotian sushi (although it was kind of interesting) - foie gras - chilli lobster (this was a little underwhelming) - halibut
Great spot. Had the Laotian Sushi and Notkitori skewers to start. Both were fantastic but the Laotian Sushi was the most remarkable. Crunchy, toasty rice cubes with fresh fish and spicy sauce. So great!! The Salmon Croquettes were spot on as well. The only misfire was the Pork Chop. The chop was chewy and the sweet apple and spice reduction served over the pork simply overwhelmed the meat. The combination worked better on paper than in reality. Will go again just for the Laotian Sushi!
Rustic restaurant with some delicious heavy hearty main courses. They take pride in serving diners fresh farm-to-table ingredients. Service was excellent. We were a big group and were treated like royalty. Unpretentious atmosphere for a good time!
I had a fantastic experience at Forgione recently! Food: The dishes were absolutely delightful! I especially enjoyed the pasta, which was al dente and richly flavored. Service: The service was attentive and friendly, although there were moments when we had to wait a little longer for our drinks. Atmosphere: The setting was cozy and charming, making it a great place for a relaxing dinner. Overall, I would highly recommend Forgione and can't wait to return to explore more of their menu!
Interesting flavors but lacked cohesiveness Brick chicken was nothing to note Halibut was overcooked, however the flavors were good. Barbecued oysters were unique Potato chip crusted quail was a good idea but didn't really deliver, coupled with an odd pickle which seemed home made. Service was lacking a bit considering we were one of few tables. Overall A for effort, but lacked a few things. Unlikely to repeat
There were some very good elements and some not so good elements. They start by bringing you two beautiful looking rolls. As soon as I picked it up it felt cold, broke it open and ice cold inside. They apologized and got two more but it was rather disappointing that they don’t even make sure they reheat the rolls properly. Shishito peppers were cooked perfectly but could have used a little salt. The wings were an elevated version and very good. The halibut was the best bite. Cooked perfectly. The steak was surprisingly bland. Overall atmosphere was very nice, rustic and cozy but food was not consistent.
The food was decent, I would just say they are trying to be more sophisticated than they can. Duck pate was incredible, really rich and delicious, unfortunately the bread portion is not enough for the amount of pate, so just put one more slice which would be great or serve less pate to reduce leftovers. The lamb didn’t have much taste, the sauce wasn’t correctly ligated and the gnocchi was flavourless and the artichoke tasted like canned artichoke. The mille-feuille potato wasn’t crispy, just had a good butter taste. I loved the burnt flavor on the mini onions and the hanger steak was ok but It definitely needed more salt. Presentation on the plates were really bad on my opinion. So overall for a 200$+ dinner I would expect or less fancy stuff and more correct flavors, or something better. Hope they take this to improve, because on a Saturday night most of the tables were empty.
Forgione/Forge is a beautiful space and lit to feel both spacious and cozy. The chicken under a brick is worth the visit; however, our party was left to wait 30-45 minutes from our first dish to our main entrees without any check-ins or updates as I watched other tables seated afterward be served before us. We did receive an explanation once our entrees arrived (a large private party downstairs), and we did understand the delay, but I wish the timing of this delivery could have gone differently, and ultimately soured the visit. Given this experience, I hesitant to make a return visit, even though the servers were apologetic. Noise-level wise, the tables fill up quick so it can be hard to hear your conversation.
