I recently visited this incredible jazz club that exceeded all expectations. The atmosphere was electric, and the food was exceptional. We enjoyed the Drizzy G cocktail, shared salmon/crab cakes, turkey sliders with truffle fries, and the standout dish, the yucca fries with an irresistible sauce—an absolute must have. The night was made unforgettable by the soulful performance of Kirk Bailey and his band, who created a magical experience. I'll definitely return, and if you're looking for a thrilling jazz club, this is the place to be!
Minton's Playhouse in Harlem is a vibrant spot where jazz history comes alive. The live performance was phenomenal, with talented musicians and an electric atmosphere that swept us up in the groove. The food was equally impressive, with a variety of delicious, well-prepared options at affordable prices. A special thanks to our waiter, Chandler, for his attentive and friendly service. Minton’s offers a perfect blend of great food, live jazz, and a welcoming vibe definitely a must-visit!
This great place with jazz atmosphere I strongly recommend. Vibes are great! Music is amazing. Everything is cleaned and well-organized. Food and drinks are really good.
Lovely place. Music was amazing. Even the after music after the show! R&B in 10!! Cayla was our server. She was so sweet and attentive. And girl catches the angles 📸📸❤️💜💚❤️ Food was to die for totally worth a romantic night out.
A landmark positioned in the heart of Harlem connected to Cecil’s Steakhouse. We went there on an early (6pm) reservation and first Jazz show (7pm). Overall a great experience. Parking - As any typical NY establishment, parking on the street is next too impossible, however, there is a parking garage about a block away that was reasonable (surcharge for large SUVs). Nice 1 block walk amidst the brownstones and community. Reservations - We were guests of another party, but our reservation was for 6pm, and they advise they hold for 15 minutes. Due to traffic we got there 6:30 and was still okay. I personally think the earlier the better as it was not packed. Not sure about walk-in or takeout. Service was spectacular. Very fast and prompt service for drinks, clearing dishes, and delivery of food. Food is priced reasonable. The only thing we couldn’t do which was surprising, was substitute side dishes with our order, as they had an abundance of side options. The food was good, seasoned and cooked well. Dessert assortment was excellent, something for everyone (not just chocolate). Jazz show - The show started a little late, but it set the ambiance and atmosphere right. Although small, you cannot tell or feel it when your sitting down eating and enjoying music and fellowship. A definite return in the future. **Menus attached.
Great layout. You won't be packed like sardines here. It's loud up front so ask your maitre d' if you prefer to sit further back. Service is prompt, menu is extensive and food is great. The jazz was great too. I enjoyed my experience and would come back.
A beautiful spot for jazz. You have room to move around, not like some places in Midtown. Lovely ambiance. Good food and friendly staff. This was my first time here. I am looking forward to a return visit. The band is great. I met some repeat customers.
OMG best Valentine's date ever. My husband saw this place on his way to work one day and since is a live jazz fan he wanted to go. I am so glad we went, it was amazing. The food, the service and the band omg awesome. Loved everything about this place and we will definitely be returning again.
Great place for a date night. Awesome atmosphere with the live music as well as the seating and overall vibe. Sorta pricey as they charge extra per person to watch the live show but it's worth the treat. I'll be back again for sure.
This is a Harlem and New York City jewel. It is a cozy comfortable space with great entertainment and perfectly prepared food. Everything is fresh. The presentation is on point. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. Book your reservation now!
The music and service we're amazing. $20 per person per set of music so the bill can get pricey pretty fast. A set is about an hour. Food was great. If your looking to try something a little different than the usual tourist stuff, check this place out.
We came here for dessert and the show. This place has a great vibe. The band had 13 people on stage and put on a good show, although we don't know how they all fit on stage. I'll definitely be back.
My first time there. The decor was beautiful and warming. Saw a live band from Cuba and it was delightful. Enjoyed myself and it was a beautiful vibe.
Coming from Australia, I wasn't sure I would love a jazz lounge; I knew I'd enjoy it, but I was unsure as to the extent. But, oh sweet baby James...! This was the highlight of our trip to New York! If we hadn't come here on our last night in NYC I'd have been buying tickets to the next night's show on the way out the door! If you enjoy cool lighting, intimate atmospheres, and are open to jazz that slows and relaxes your soul, do yourself the favour and visit Minton's!
MINTON'S PLAYHOUSE is back..... 🎊 Amazing performances, always a cool vibe and mouth-watering 😋 food. 👍 Highly recommended 👏
The experience was wonderful. The place is a gem and a flash from the past. Our group of 16 stated the food was fantastic......I will return.
Great atmosphere, great music , good food and drinks. Ask for the server Dan he will hook you up with a great old fashion cocktail.
So beautiful. Historic jazz venue. I enjoyed the jazz music and the food. Waiters are nice.
Attendant Dan was exremely hospitable and extra ibservant. The show was so appealing and staff were super friendly. It comes highly recommended
Had the opportunity to chaperone my student group there for a historical documentary. Amazing is an understatement to describe the experience, the rich history in Minton's is unbelievable! My kids had a BLAST interviewing Raphael Baccus about the ins and outs of Minton's Playhouse.
Minton's Playhouse, nestled in historic Harlem, is a haven for jazz enthusiasts seeking an authentic experience. Stepping into its intimate setting, one is enveloped in the soulful melodies and rich history of the genre. During my visit, the old fashioneds stood out as a highlight, expertly crafted to perfection. Each sip was a symphony of flavors, showcasing the bartenders' dedication to quality. The attentive service further elevated the experience, ensuring that every guest felt welcomed and valued. In conclusion, Minton's Playhouse offers a memorable evening of exceptional music, cocktails, and ambiance in the heart of Harlem.
What an incredible experience. Great music, fantastic food and the service was perfect. Minton’s is back, baby!!!
I loved it so much that I did not want to leave. A must visit place on a Thursday night for all music lovers.
Great place to see jazz performers like Russell Hall!
1st time! Very nice! Great music, good food and wonderful ambience!
Great sophisticated atmosphere of music and amazing food!! The food and drinks are superb!! Historically known for Jazz!!
An absolute must visit if you like jazz. The music and atmosphere is wonderful, and the food is brilliant too!
The food was great i had the chicken tacos and grilled shrimp although i forgot to take pics the atmosphere was nice i went with a friend for poetry night
This was an amazing experience! Samara (I hope I'm spelling it right) the manager on duty last night went above and beyond for me and my party of 16. She was over accommodating and deserves recognition. It was truly a night to remember. Thank you so much!!!
Food is outstanding. The live show is so interactive it puts you in a happy place automatically. Will definitely be back!
That what’s amazing experience!!!! Totally recommend.. the music was amazing.. totally enjoy 🫶🏻😍
Ashanti was such a great bartender and she was so kind. Very beautiful might I add, I mean a complete angel! She recommended some really great drinks and food choices! The music was on point tonight and my bartender actually sings! It was pretty amazing! Definitely coming back!
Chandler was so welcoming and kind! All staff were attentive and made sure we had a great night as it was my mom’s birthday. The jazz was next level and the atmosphere altogether is something you’ll want to experience if you happen to be passing through the area! thank you minton’s.
Our first time in the club after a long hiatus and we will be back regularly. Great sound, awesome top of the game musicians in communion with their audience. We loved the drinks and food we had as well. The jazz place in Harlem.
Awesome place!! Customer service was top notch and food, so delicious! Chandler was very polite and professional, the manager was very kind also. A grown up spot and of course great jazz music! Highly recommend!
The music was amazing. The food pretty impressive and the service was good. All the staff are engaged in your needs. Can be loud if wanting to go somewhere for conversation. But if you want a good vibe, food and drinks and some soul. A1.
The customer service was superb. From the entrance everyone was pleasant, my server was knowledgeable on cocktails and the menu. It was super helpful on our decision making. For appetizers we tried turkey sliders, lollipop wings, & mussels which were all great very flavorful. For the entree we tried, salmon, & also the steak all seasoned to perfection. We were very impressed. Not to mention the live music and ambiance. Nice date night. We will definitely be back.
Always top tier musicians playing with jazz, soul and r&b feel. Cocktails are amazing and some of the specials as well. They have a late night menue! Don’t miss the jam sessions on Saturday nights! Love that it has history going back to a time the Jazz greatest played.
This was one of the best jazz shows I’ve ever seen; we had so much fun. We showed up on a Saturday night and everyone at the joint was having a blast. It felt like a communal gathering with musicians and tap dancers participating from the audience. The drinks were delicious (they had $10 late night items) and the staff were friendly. If you’re in NY, you can’t miss this spot.
Great atmosphere. Great music and the staff is welcoming. Robert , Natalia, and Yonick were great. They were attentive and helpful. The band was absolutely amazing. Smooth and Sexy vibe. Can’t wait to come Back and celebrate my birthday.
I recently visited Minions Playhouse in Harlem, NY, and it was an incredible experience! This beautiful restaurant and jazz lounge is steeped in history and offers a truly unique ambiance. The food and drinks were not only delicious but also reasonably priced, making it a great spot for a night out. The staff was excellent, providing top-notch service throughout the evening. After the jazz performance, A DJ transformed the venue into a lively house music club, complete with a dance floor. It was the perfect blend of classy and fun. I can't wait to visit again!
I wanted to go to the best Harlem jazz bar and be connected with my african roots. The jazz musicians were such cool vibe and they were the most down to earth people you'll ever meet. Such an intimate musical exchange between the performers and the audience. The musicians made everybody feel in love with their music! The food was bomb too!!! Highly rec to support them :)
The history of this place in Harlem is amazing. The newly renovated Minton's is beautiful. Small but spacey enough. You pay 25 dollars per person to watch the jazz show plus dinner and I felt that it was a bit rushed to get you out for the next show. Perhaps the layer show is better to sit and relax and listen to music and eat. The food is delicious
I had a nice time here during Restaurant Week. The food was delicious and I even had a couple of drinks I’ve never tasted before. The blackberry Gimlet was my favorite. The jazz band was pretty good and one of the musicians was a multi-instrumentalist. Overall I enjoyed myself but it won’t be a regular spot for me.
A nice way to enjoy jazz that doesn’t break the bank. The musicians were wonderful and the servers/bartenders were attentive. We ordered drinks - off menu - and they were good. The food was decent - typical to what you’d expect from a jazz bar. Tickets were affordable and once they turned the lights down, the ambience was nice. There are some things that seem to be a work in progress (the sound guy and the singers didn’t seem to be on the same page and the lighting at the bar could use some work). But once the show got going, it was a really enjoyable time. We’ll definitely be returning as it’s a neighborhood establishment worth the patronage. Good for dates and groups.
i came here for the first time to hear my brother sing & it was an all around good night. I would definitely come back, but only if I get to have my same service Michelle. She was great helpful, personable & fun. Everything she suggested was a good look. I would've shared a picture of the drinks but that how good they were, maybe next time.
The music was absolutely incredible. We really loved it! Also, the crowd was fun and lively. Great spot! However, service and food is mediocre at best. Also, it was very difficult to find info on fees on their website. I wrote to confirm and they were opaque about it and didn’t fully answer. There is a $40 min order amount, plus a $20 donation, which we didn’t find out until we arrived (despite writing two emails). We are always happy to support artists, music, and cultural institutions, but they should just be transparent about their prices and respond when people ask!
I really wanted to like this place. I love live jazz and supporting music played in person, especially as we get over the effects of the pandemic on live entertainment. Here’s my take on Minton’s. I was under the impression that this is a historic landmark and storied place. When you walk in, there’s really no evidence of this. The place is completely renovated and devoid of charm or elegance. I read in a NYT review that men should be encouraged to dress sharp.. but most were wearing casual clothing. It felt more like a cruise ship lounge than a historic venue for jazz music and fine food. We were also not told of a minimum purchase with each person- $40 per person PLUS an automatically added 20% gratuity and $20 added to support the musicians. I always tip 20% or more but I was not informed when making the reservation that there was a minimum. Our night for four people ended up being over $320 when we had a few appetizers and drinks. Absolutely a rip off and not okay to surprise a guest with these rules. Our party ate beforehand because we didn’t know about this rule. What’s more? The music was okay, but not exceptional. I’m not a professional, but it was clear that the group performing were good, but not out of the ordinary talented. Patrons were also talking loudly and taking videos/pictures during the performance that clearly got in the way for other guests. Management/Waitstaff should inform the audience to be respectful of others. I really wanted to like this place but between the rip-off minimum payment and cruise level entertainment atmosphere, this place is a no-go for me. Save your money. Try The Blue Note or another jazz spot for a true experience.
Hi I was there tonight and it was a horrible experience. First of all, they claim to be a jazz club but it doesn’t seem like. Yes, there was a jazz show but nobody announced the musicians and the audience was so loud that nobody could hear the music. People were talking so loud as if they intended to be louder than musicians on the stage, and definitely almost no one cared about the music being played. I am so sorry for musicians. It is so disrespectful! Then the club put on a very loud music in the break, and that music has nothing to do with jazz btw. Waiters are also completely incompetent and disrespectful. Some broke the glasses, another spilled the water on my husband, then they seem in rush to take a plate before you are even done eating. On the top of that the food is not good, and the waitress that was serving us did not make us aware that the tip was already included. She made us pay not showing actual receipt before so we discovered that we did leave additional tip only after we paid, otherwise we would have not left a second tip. To say it was a poor experience is definitely not enough and I wouldn’t go there again or recommend this place to others. Unfortunately this experience makes me realize that we live in the world full of dilettantes and people who have no idea what culture is.
I bought tickets for the 7:30pm show tonight, and by 8:30pm, the show had not started because the crowd from the first show was still seated inside, and they kept telling us to wait to clear the crowd from the first show. This experience was disrespectful to our time, and I would not recommend this place. My sister and I were visiting and wanted a Jazz experience in NYC. It was disappointing not to be able to have this experience due to this venue being disorganized and inconsiderate of the times for which they advertise. I am hoping that they follow through with the refund promised. Update: I reached out and never heard from them about the refund they promised. I had to dispute the charge with the bank.
