Opinions de Momoya New York
I have had the pleasure of eating here a few times and I have to say the food is amazing and the atmosphere is great. Such a treat to come here every time. I had the Bruschetta which was presented very nicely. Service was great. I will be back!
Great cafe with lots of light and a great vibe. The music is wonderful and the service is top notch (should out to the BEST barista Robin). They often have vegan and gluten free pastries and tons of options for drinks. I love the peppermint paws and be on the lookout for their mango matcha (it’s amazing).
This is now my new favorite coffee shop in the area. The drinks and vibe are great, AND my favorite part is that I get to bring my pup with me and pet other cute dogs while I work. Also, my dog 15/10 recommends the puppuccino featured in the photo! There was a previous review mentioning door security - when I was there they had an employee helping people with the two door system so that only one was ever open at a time to prevent any doggos getting loose.
Absolutely fell in love with this coffee shop! I loved being able to sit down and get some work done all in the company of the warmest people and dogs ever. Whenever I'm on the Upper West Side, you'll definitely find me here with an iced mocha and meeting new canine friends!
OBSESSED to say the least! This coffee shop in the upper west side is the perfect place for dog lovers! I brought my pup and he had a blast and loved their dog treats (and i loved the human treats)! If you're visiting NYC this is the perfect spot to go - located right by the museum of natural history!
The location is amazing and the coffee is outstanding! To be able to drink a nice coffee and bring my dog inside was a HUGE PLUS!!! The staff was warm and welcoming and suggested a delicious breakfast sandwich. This is one of the BEST coffee shops on the Upper West Side!
Dublin (my Irish Setter) and I had the best time meeting the friendliest dogs in Manhattan. He played until he dropped (pictured here). How can you help but get happy when the pups are all playing and the delicious coffee is flowing.
Stopped in with my pup so excited to check this out. Exceeded my expectations. Elegant space, cool vibe, welcoming adorable owners and baristas. And btw I’d go for the perfect cappuccino and their almond croissant even if I didn’t have a dog. But I do. So basically now we may never go anywhere else.
I mean really, what more can a girl ask for than a coffee shop that also has an endless supply of dogs walking through the door? I love the outdoor space here at Black Lab Cafe, it's the perfect spot to both people *and* dog watch on the Upper West Side!
The food here is amazing! I highly recommend the Lemon Square. It’s not too sour, but you still taste the lemon.
The Black Lab Cafe is more than perfect! Their food is 10/10. I love that I was able to come with my little fur bestie:) the service was more than amazing and the workers are extremely friendly! The food is great please try the quesadillas! The Black Lab is so welcoming to not only individuals but your dog! I have come here a few times and I will definitely keep coming back 🫶🏼
This place is an asset to fabric of the neighborhood. With all the corporate nonsense infiltrating the UWS and buildings being torn down when you find an oasis mom and pop café it’s like mana from heaven. I know this review sounds dramatic but truly - the vibe, the staff, the coffee, the croissants, the food… I come here almost everyday like meditation- and the dog friendly aspect is so wonderful! Love Black Lab!
My dog and I LOVE it here. Fun, low key, the best place for a dog to just wander and make new friends! The food is so great and the dog treats must be incredible because every time we go outside now my dog tries to walk us straight toward the cafe!
My favorite coffee shop in NY. Definitely a go to place either to have a coffee or a matcha (puppy lavender matcha is very good) while you work, or have a nice lunch (their fish tacos are super good). Staff is SO nice and helpful. Great customer experience. Also there are always so many dogs to pet!!
We were running late for the coffee plans and ended up having dinner- so glad we did! Everything was delicious! We ordered several dishes and all exceeded expectations. I highly recommend both salmon options - the salad was perfect. Service was above and beyond with friendly welcoming staff and timely service. Canine companion rates this place 100 stars.
Tried out their restaurant week set menu. Got the Kabocha soup, Sushi, and Macha dessert. I thought it would be too small for two to share so I ordered the Crispy Rice Tuna too, ended up the main course came huge, I think this is one of the incredible restaurant week deals considering the $60 price. Our server/bartender “ Mink ” was very friendly and attentive. The dessert she recommended was yummy. On top of everything, the vibes was lovely, I loved that it wasn't so loud or noisy inside, even it was quite busy, great spot for catching up in SoHo.
Had a cozy dinner on snow day! Place was busy but the bar was quiet and a good place to chat! "Mink", our server, was super friendly and gave us good recommendations. We had the restaurant week dinner with a good selection of sushi and ordered an extra dessert that was a unique mille feuille with calamelized banana. Brunch menu looks tempting so will probably come back for that!
Had an amazing experience at Momoya Soho. We ordered one of their bento-style meals, and everything about it was excellent. The presentation was beautiful, with so many different components, but more importantly, every item actually tasted great. The sashimi was very fresh, the salmon bowl was flavorful and well balanced, and the fried items were crispy without feeling greasy. Even the small side dishes were thoughtfully prepared and didn’t feel like fillers. You could really tell a lot of care went into each part of the meal. The overall experience was calm and enjoyable, and the food quality completely lived up to expectations. Everything we tried was delicious, and nothing felt disappointing or average. Definitely a place I’d come back to.
One of my favorite spots for japanese food. My top picks are brussel sprouts, calamari, and wagyu uni soba. Their Shokadau Bento Box is also a great (and beautiful) way to sample different small bites. I also love their seasonal parfaits! Their cocktails are also great—recommended from their seasonal menu Kabocha (nice spice flavor) and Lime—Classic menu: Porn Star! We got to try their soya ice cream. It was amazing! It tasted like salted caramel and was so smooth The staff are friendly and attentive—shout out to Nick, our server from Monday!
I started with an Akadashi miso soup, deep and comforting, paired with a classic lychee cocktail made with nigori sake, lychee, and lemon: fresh and well balanced. Then came the King Crab Roll. It melts in your mouth. No competition. I paired it with a glass of Aruga “Branca Clarenza”, Yamanashi Koshu, 2023. Clean, mineral, and elegant, a perfect match for the roll. To finish, I had two coup glacée: one rum raisin and one soy, served with mochi skin and a green tea cookie. Both were very good. With the mochi skin, they go to another level. But the soy coup glacée has no name. It has no name. Best of the night: the King Crab Roll and the soy coup glacée. I was satisfied in every way. I was already full after the sushi roll, but it was so good I had to close with something more. The dessert was a bit much for my stomach, but for the palate, and for pure pleasure. It was climatic! Pure extasis.
What a treat. I sat at the chefs counter for the omakase and was impressed. The fish was high quality and service was friendly. Chef Andrew was great company - it’s clear that he cares about his craft and made the dining experience both personal and memorable. I’ll definitely be back.
Absolutely loved my experience at Momoya SoHo! The atmosphere is chic and inviting, offering a wonderful mix of cozy and elegant dining, including a beautiful indoor space and a lively patio perfect for people-watching. The sushi and sashimi were incredibly fresh and beautifully presented, as you can see—a true feast for the eyes and the palate. The quality of the fish, from the rich tuna and buttery salmon to the other delicious cuts, really stands out. A special mention for the Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna; those perfectly textured, crunchy rice squares topped with a generous portion of spicy tuna and jalapeño were an absolute highlight and a must-try. The service was attentive and professional, and a cold beer (or one of their specialty cocktails) was the perfect complement to the meal. Whether you're in the mood for classic nigiri, inventive small plates, or a complete Japanese dining experience, Momoya SoHo delivers. Highly recommend for a special date night or a fantastic meal out!
My friends and I had a super fun day enjoying Momoya Soho.. two thumbs up for the food, ambiance and our server Nick was fantastic. He suggested great choices of appetizer and cocktail drinks. Crispy Calamari and Tuna Tortilla for appetizer, Sukiyaki Gozen & Tempura for entrée. The Molten Matcha French toast is excellent.. it melts in your mouth. Will definitely go back and refer to friends.
My friends took me here for my birthday lunch today and we had a great time! We had a nice roomy booth upstairs for 6 of us. The food was delicious! We shared the Brussels sprouts, wagyu crispy rice, and eggplant appetizers. For our entrees, we had the Momoya Box, Mini Chirashibwirh udon and tempura, Chirashi, sushi & sashimi combo and veggie roll combo. The seafood was fresh and everything was tasty. For dessert we shared the seasonal parfait and soufflé pancakes. The presentation was beautiful and loved all the different flavors. All the classic cocktails were available as mocktails and were very refreshing. Highly recommend coming here! Special shoutout to our server, Nick. He was so friendly and helpful with suggestions. Thank you for a wonderful meal!
I had the most extraordinary dining experience at Momoya Soho. Every dish was beautifully prepared and full of flavor. The presentation was flawless! The lobster spring roll was a standout—crispy, delicate, and bursting with richness. The shrimp tempura was perfect. The cod was cooked to perfection—tender, buttery and deeply satisfying. The grilled eggplant was so tasty! Desserts are out of this world! On top of the food, the atmosphere was chic yet welcoming, and the service was warm and attentive without being overbearing. Recommendations from our server were on point. It’s rare to find a place that delivers on every level, but Momoya Soho truly does. I can’t wait to return and try even more of their menu.
Momoya Soya is fantastic! The sushi was fresh, delicious, and well presented, and the appetizers were just as impressive. The atmosphere is modern and inviting, making it a great place to enjoy a meal. The food did take a little while to arrive, but once it did, it was absolutely worth the wait. Highly recommend!
Had an amazing time at Momoya fot a girls night out. This is my 2nd time and Momoya does not disappoint. Restaurant week menu is well worth the money. The 3oz wagyu in the Natsu Gozen box is melt in your mouth. The shokado bento is beautifully presented. Our server Nick is the best - he is very friendly and attentive. In the beginning he patiently explained the food and drink menu to us, answered all our questions, very professional and helpful. Throughout the night he checked on us to make sure everything was great and all with a smile. He really made our night out perfect.
If I could give more than 5 stars, I would!! We went in for restaurant week and we came out full and happy. Every course was fantastic. I had the sashimi + sushi for one, and my date had the bento box. The fish melted in my mouth like BUTTER. We each got a different dessert and both were so light and sweet. And for my birthday they brought out a scoop of ice cream (surprise flavor- try it and then ask what it is!) with a candle on top. I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday dinner. Nick, our server, was wonderfully attentive and sweet. The moment he heard it was my birthday, he brought out the candle with the ice cream and even sang me a quick happy birthday LOL. Very special night. Super happy to recommend this restaurant, and can’t wait to come back with more friends!
Excellent service!!! Shout out to my server Nick – he was incredibly friendly, attentive, and made us feel so welcome! The food was really good – fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every dish came out just right, and you could tell a lot of care went into it. And the desserts? Absolutely yummy – rich, indulgent, and the perfect way to end the meal. The whole dining experience was top-notch. We’ll definitely be coming back. Highly recommended!
This corner coffee shop has a cool vibe inside. After ordering an iced latte I was accosted by two happy dogs, not something I was upset about. There is a nice outdoor patio to sit at. The cafe just opened, so their kitchen isn't open yet. Once they have some food to buy I will be sure to return.
Came here because I used to have a Black Lab and miss her terribly, so hoped for some Black Lab related theme. I'm surprised that they don't even have a pic of black labs on their walls while having some other smaller sized breeds. No tennis balls, nothing Black Lab related, really... The food was ok, but not to come back for. Cappuccino was alright.
Had an early dinner with no reservation and was seated at the sushi counter. Service was prompt. Had the dinner menu set with snow crab, the bento box and ice cream. Except for the snow crab appetizer which has so much of the raw taste of the accompanying green, the set was very delicious. Would probably try a different menu next time.
Love the banana mille-feuille. A lot of people come here for the parfait but the banana mille-feuille is the hidden gem. The hojicha ice cream on the side is so rich and creamy. The matcha french toast is a bit disappointing as it’s literally a big block of toast with matcha cream inside. The exterior of the toast is kind of dry which is different from conventional French toast.
During Restaurant Week, my daughter and I dined here for sushi, but unfortunately, we were a bit disappointed. This was actually my second visit. As you can see in the photo, the tuna in the bento box looked dark and clearly not fresh. I brought this to the attention of the staff, and they did offer a replacement, which I appreciated. In the bento box, only the wagyu sushi, cod fish, and soft-shell crab were enjoyable. The rest of the items were quite average and really didn’t justify the price. We were seated at the sushi bar, and while waiting, we noticed that many sushi boxes were left sitting on the side for at least 10 minutes before being served. If I hadn’t seen them prepare a fresh one in front of me, I would’ve suspected they gave me one of those boxes. That said, our server Catherine was very kind and noticed I might not have been fully satisfied with the meal. She thoughtfully offered me a complimentary green tea ice cream, which I appreciated. I just hope the restaurant will use fresher and more reliable ingredients to serve their customers.
My recent experience at Black Lab Cafe in New York City was far from what I expected. Despite its name hinting at a pet-friendly vibe, I was surprised to find out that pets weren't allowed inside. This decision took away from the cozy atmosphere I was hoping for. Walking in, I immediately noticed the lack of warmth. Instead of the lively presence of pets, the space felt cold and unwelcoming. This absence definitely dampened the mood. On top of that, the service was mediocre. The staff didn't seem very engaged or interested in making the experience enjoyable. It felt like they were just going through the motions. The food and drinks also left a lot to be desired. The coffee was stale, and the pastries were dry. It seemed like attention to detail was lacking across the board. Overall, my visit to Black Lab Cafe was disappointing. It's unfortunate that such potential is being held back by their no-pet policy and lackluster execution. Unless they reconsider their stance and improve their overall experience, I'll be looking for other cafes that prioritize hospitality and inclusivity.
!!No longer dog friendly!! Should have been open and communicated this or tried for partial hours that were dog friendly. Instead just showed up one day (with the pup) and can no longer go in. There were many many other problems with the business that should have been addressed first before banning dogs…strange move. I know the team tries hard but have to be honest here, food is nowhere near good enough to survive as cafe alone. Coffee is fine but not worth going out of your way when there are other great options in the neighborhood
All these one star reviews are completely correct. This place was such a great addition to the Upper West Side. But now that they don’t allow dogs anymore, why bother? There are plenty of places to get coffee and such. Why couldn’t the owners just leave well enough alone? They will certainly my not make more money as a no dogs allowed cafe! That was the whole point in going there!
