Opinions de Peppa's Jerk Chicken New York
I would give this restaurant more stars if I could. They were incredibly accommodating during a very difficult time for my family this week as we were dealing with a death in the family. I reached out to the restaurant and was able to speak directly with the owner. I explained that everything was very last minute and that I needed catered food for my family. After hearing my situation, he immediately expressed his condolences to me and my family, which I truly appreciated during such a difficult time. Despite the short notice, the food was delivered the very same day. Everyone who came by said the food was amazing. They loved everything especially the chicken and overall the meal was fantastic. Not only was the food excellent, but the customer service was also outstanding. The owner and staff were warm, compassionate, and incredibly understanding. Their kindness meant so much to my family and me during this time. I’m truly grateful and would highly recommend this restaurant.
I stopped by this restaurant because every time I pass by, I always see a crowd outside. That made me curious, so I decided to check it out for myself. I was actually running a little late for work, but the line moved very quickly, which I really appreciated. The restaurant was very nice and the staff were friendly and welcoming. I was able to get my food in time before heading to work, which was a big plus. The food was very tasty, the atmosphere was great, and the vibes were good. I also loved the music they were playing. When I got to work, I even shared some of my lunch with a coworker and they enjoyed it too. I will definitely be going back for lunch again, and next time I’ll be bringing some of my coworkers with me.
The jerk chicken was absolutely outstanding. The seasoning had the perfect balance of spice bold, smoky, and slightly sweet kick. This is definitely my go to spot!
Best of the best Jamaican restaurant in manhattan you have to come get yah jerk chicken and that oxtail listen the curry shrimp Is my favorite 💙💙
The food was so good. Definitely will be stopping every time I’m in NYC
On the money with food taste... and rice so good I can taste the coconut milk. Their the best thing about traveling to 28th and 1st. Because I can walk right over to them lunchtime. Lunch special is economical. And service is fast. The just need to smile more:) Wha gwon star? How ya born so lol
I had the jerk chicken dinner and it was absolutely AMAZING! The flavor was on point — perfectly seasoned, smoky, juicy, and cooked just right. Every bite was full of authentic Caribbean taste. The rice and peas paired so well with the chicken, and the whole plate was fresh and satisfying. The customer service was just as good as the food. I was greeted with a warm smile as soon as I walked in. The staff was very polite, professional, and made me feel welcome. You can tell they take pride in both their food and how they treat their customers. If you’re craving real jerk chicken done the right way, this is the spot. 10/10 — I’ll definitely be back! 🔥🇯🇲
The food was amazing i had the brown stew chicken with rice and peas and my bestfriend had to Oxtail with mac and cheese 10/10 Peppas always does me right this is my favorite location . See yall again soon
I’m visiting from LA and a friend told me to try this spot. I’ve been here three times already, and everything I’ve had on the menu tasted great, especially the jerk chicken with jerk sauce. The server was very friendly. I’ll definitely be back.
I bought Curry goat August 1 enjoyed it Chef is 10 out of 10 right amount of salt and spice.. August 2 Oxtail and chicken food soup food is great. The Chef can really cook and the restaurant very clean.. I would recommend to anyone who need good fresh food to eat..❤️
I was surprised how good the food was. I had a basic stew chicken and rice and it was so good I had a craving a few days later and ordered it again. The wait on the line and the confusion while ordering is just the way how Jamaican restaurants work but the atmosphere in there is good, the art on the walls nice and the music is welcoming. This is a place you could suggest to your friends and be sure about it being good.
My son has been ordering food from Peppas for a few months and is always telling me about it. I came to visit and finally got to experience it myself. Over. The. Top. Amazing. Everyone was friendly and the service was excellent. We decided to eat the side counter instead of taking it home. So glad we did because the music created the perfect vibe to enjoy our meal. The food was heavenly with deep flavors. I made a promise to myself to eat there every time I’m in town. Today was jerk chicken. Next time I’m going for Curry Goat, and after that, the Ox Tail.
The oxtail is the bomb here! It’s so tender and falls right off the bones. I highly recommend this when it’s available. The issue is often they run out of the oxtail so you’ll have to order early or come in on a non busy day. There’s no room to sit and eat in the restaurant. There’s a bar to stand and finish your food but I believe this place is mostly take out only. Def recommend grabbing the oxtail if you’re in the neighborhood!
I’m a Jamaican and me can cook ,don’t really practice eating out lunch ,I cook my own food ,however,so when me tell you say it good it good; it’s near Bellevue hospital. Well this is manhattan I paid $17 + ?? for a medium food but then considering 4pc chicken tender and fries meal with a small coffee at MickyD for $15+ up de block … I feel very justified in my pocket and my belly .The” A “ grade health sign mean you food clean, place is small and clean.I had rice and peas with veg and jerk chicken with curry goat gravy .chicken well seasoned down to the bone .Not bad at all.
I thought the place would be horrible at the reviews. Not true. T for the lunch special at $10.99 I got a soda, rice and cabbage and 3 pieces of meat, yes there was back-meat/bone, but compared to what you can buy for lunch at other places it's a great deal. Go to a grocery store and you get a cold footlong for $12 and no drink, great deal, just buy and eat, no dine-in, the bowl looked small but it was packed good. You can
The chicken curry with rice was favorable and tasted amazing. Can't wait to try everything on the menu. The food was 5/5. Service needs some work, like updating the customer on time for order and communicating with the customer! Service is 3/5. The place is small and mainly to go. Not a great place to eat. Will be back.
My meal didn’t come with the plaintains. Also the macaroni salad is sooo sweet? They definitely added a ton of sugar which is really weird
The only jerk chicken spot I feel confident in in Manhattan is Simply Natural Grill, but that dude only comes out in the Spring/Summer as he brings his grill out on the street and does God's work. I did my best to crowdsource a good jerk chicken rec from my Instagram story, and the overwhelming favorite was Peppa’s Jerk Chicken. We took the bus up to 28th street, and arrived at what felt like the promised land for a jerk chicken plate: Bob Marley on a Jamaican flag, tin wall panels spray painted with scenery of the homeland, employees slightly rude with thick Jamaican accents, etc. We both got jerk chicken plates with rice & peas and plantains. I was beyond hopeful to have a new year round jerk chicken spot. However, my hopes were stabbed in the heart when I took one bite of the plantains. These were legitimately the worst plantains I’ve ever had. I couldn’t even believe they served us these. The plastic fork couldn’t even penetrate the surface of the fried banana, they must have been sitting for DAYS. I wish they just told us they were out of plantains. The jerk chicken and rice & peas were actually really good, but plantain-gate just left a bad taste in my mouth. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__
Ordered the jerk chicken with Mac. It was super flavorful. Although every bite was spice overload, this entree was marinated well. I'm not sure if the side dish was a fluke, but it had remnants of soul food during a Detroit Thanksgiving. The food was very rich and it literally took me 2 days finish what I ordered.
I paid $23 yesterday for a small curry goat with white rice and extra gravy. I got oily rice, minimum meat, bones and feel robbed. They put up their prices but 23$ for a small no sides just rice gravy and little meat. Food wasn't even season the best not an allspice in site. Live and learn. I wouldn’t even add the photos people
Compared to the rest of peppas restaurant - this one is the worse and at the bottom. The rice and peas is disgusting. Rasta pasta is ABSOLUTELY disgusting. The chicken is ok. Management needs to look at the recipes and actually taste the food they cook. If I could leave 1 million reviews to document how disgusted I am...I surely would.
This is NOT jerk chicken that you all are selling . A wah de RASSSS is that? Name the thing baked chicken so real Caribbean people know what to expect. It was just chicken with okay seasoning and bbq sauce but the JERK is missing. & more veggies next time please . I paid $20 for rice and chicken….
Tried going here but pretty disappointed. Dish was just chopped chicken and rice which meant a nightmare in sorting through the chopped bones and rice. I suggest Miss Lily’s if you want good Jamaican food. This was just… I think it should be given away to the homeless 😕 Has soured my perception and general opine on Caribbean food 🫤
Gave one star but should be zero. Jerk chicken had zero jerk seasoning. Even the sauce they poured on it had no jerk flavor. Rice was uncle Ben’s par boiled - terrible texture and clumped. Chicken soup had zero pieces of chicken, no corn, dumplings or vegetable - pure water with oil. They should have told me the soup was finished. What they sold me wasn’t something you would sell to a customer. Bought a homemade juice that tasted like sugar water with zero fruit flavor. I don’t think this is actually a Jamaican restaurant. You making Jamaicans look bad if so. Signs are posted - no refunds. I know why. Please try for yourself and ask lots of questions before buying. Go with exact change or they will keep your money. You deserve the right to tip if appropriate. Don’t be tricked into it.
Good food only exists when the atmosphere is welcoming .. and the employees are welcoming. Sadly ... this place doesn't know how to do customer interaction well. Prices were outrageous. Will not be returning here again
I had a very negative experience at this restaurant. The staff were rude and unwelcoming, and the customer service felt deliberately discouraging. Prices were inconsistent and seemed to be changed arbitrarily, which comes across as dishonest and unfair. One incident the chef stated there wasn’t enough quantity to make 2 SMALL QUANTITY plates!!! He still persisted to make the plates after we stated no thank you ; i specified no meat and yet he still made an attempt to charge us $50 bucks for less quantity! NOT ME!!! It’s disappointing to see a business treat its own community with such disregard. Instead of fostering support and pride, the atmosphere was hostile and unkind. I believe in supporting restaurants that uplift and respect their people — unfortunately, this place does not reflect that. Food is half way decent but the people, even the chef, - people are SO NASTY WITH SUCH NASTY ENERGY!!! Instead of accommodating to customers needs a nasty lady wanted to overcharge me a different price the very day after and then ask if I wanted it?🤮This is where people spend their hard earned money! If you spent your last and you needed some good where you support them daily they would say no and leave you hungry! If it weren’t for the customers places like these would not exist and I HIGHLY DOUBT AFTER COVID THIS PLACE WOULD BE OPEN IF CUSTOMERS KNEW HOW DISGUSTING THEY ARE!! THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IN NYC!!🤮 I cannot recommend dining here, and I encourage others to support establishments that value fairness, respect, and genuine hospitality.
