Opinions de Petrarca Cucina e Vino New York
I really enjoyed their butternut squash ravioli, and their tiramisu! The waiters that helped us were very kind and provided great service, I would definitely come back here again next time I'm in the neighborhood.
I've had dinner there several times with my sister. It's cozy warm setting with home made pasta, excellent service staff and food. The owner is pleasant and talks with patrons to get feedback. Definitely A GO TO place for fine Italian dining.
Really nice Italian restaurant, food was delightful and tasty, and service very considerate. A bit noisy tho. I recommend this one place
My wife and I had a great meal here. They have a good selection of Italian wines from a variety of regions. I also liked that they had a lot of quarter bottles. It's a glass and a half so you can have different wines with your appetizers and dinner. I had the lasagna, which was delicious. The ricotta layer was just right - not thin and dried out or thick and messy. My wife had a sausage and broccoli orricette. Definitely recommended.
Great selection of wine and the service has consistently been great. The chicken Caesar salad is one of the best I’ve had; meat is done just right, not too chewy and the dressing tastes like it is home made. I would also highly recommend the salmon.
Very knowledgeable wait staff. Great selection of wines. Love the food. I go for lunch and usually get the Gnocchi or the Orecchiette. I almost always get there early when meeting friends to have a glass of wine at the bar. Very personable bartenders and always with a good new recommendation for a new wine to try.
A really nice spot - service here is really good, it’s friendly and attentive (seemingly rare for NYC!), everything we ate was delicious and the 250ml mini carafes of wine were great value too. Highly recommend the burrata, tuna tartar and bolognaise. If you’re GF, the GF pasta is great too! Highly recommend.
Wonderful food, wonderful place, wonderful employees. Everyone is friendly and the food is impeccable. Sure, maybe we only had 9 people sharing an appetizer, but it was great! Okay, j/k on the 9 people, but I'm telling you, this is the best Italian restaurant in NYC. Those who know, know.
Nice folks serving terrific classic Italian dishes, lots of wines with great pours, sit inside or out. My eggplant mezzaluna app was huge and fine. The cioppino was gorgeous. 🥂
Our table order the following: Pear and gorgonzola salad Calamari Chicken Marsala Pasta and mushroom Cauliflower soup... no heavy cream Fettuccine bolognese For dessert; Vanilla cognac Gelato Raspberry chocolate mousse cake TIramisu Everything was delicious! The only disappointment was they were out of chocolate bread pudding. We will definitely return. Service was also great.
Best mushroom soup ever! Owners came by for conversation and to make sure things were satisfactory. Had the Gnocchi alla Padovana. Good portion and served hot. Great restaurant.
Great service and fantastic food. Ate more than I wanted. The staff is friendly and doing a great job to keep the place safe and implement social distancing guidelines while making it a pleasurable and "normal" dining experience. Will certainly recommend.
One of my NYC staple restaurants to visit while I lived and now visit New York. In a charming part of Tribeca, this authentic Italian restaurant has the classics made with simple fresh ingredients but with an elegant presentation. The flavors are so amazing! My favorite is going during lunch and having wine and my favorite caprese sandwich on the East coast or a really delicious pizza that's just the right the size. The atmosphere is very relaxed and down to earth with an Italian, natural lit, sophisticated yet warm and inviting feel. Its a great place to go when its warm out since they have tables outside and great to go in when its cold because of the warmth and delicious smells and tastes and nothing like a big bold Italian wine on a cold day with a delicious pasta dish! The owners Leo and his wonderful Wife are always around and are so welcoming! I know their boys work there as well, so its nice to go to a local authentic Italian family run restaurant. I am always remembered and greeted and treated with such kindness and always love digging in to my favorite foods! I rate it a 5
I have been coming to this family owned restaurant for 10 years. Even when I moved to San Diego I made it a point to come here. The staff is amazing and so is the service and atmosphere. Sometimes you will run into celebs! Great place! Try the Procuitto di Parma sandwich or the Carbonara. Everything is great. There is also a Sommelier on site who is excellent! Leo, Antonnette, Emilio, and Ivano are amazing hosts!
This is a one of Tribeca's top Italian restaurants. It's classical Italian menu is prepared to perfection by its chef owner Leo, a native Italian who's history includes another NYC favorite, Arqua. Its menu is varied and includes favorites we love like the fennel salad prepared with olive oil and lemon, calamari which is crisp but juicy and the pastas that are incomparable. There are generally a variety of diverse specials and we especially enjoy their seasonal specials like truffle dishes, fresh porcini and live caught local fish. The staff is always polite and attentive. It is one of top go to places and not to be missed.
Petrarca Cucina e Vino is delicious authentic Italian cuisine. The food is fresh. The atmosphere is fun and urban -- oozing with charm. The staff is warm, embracing. The price is very reasonable --given portions, location and quality. Natural ingredients are mainly used at this Italian delight. Walk, don't run -- it's amazing!
The best lasagna i've ever had, so light and flavorful. Butternut squash ravioli was also excellent. Very reasonably priced for the quality.
We found ourselves in NYC on New Year’s Eve with an early dinner plan that fell through. The host at Petrarca was so kind to fit us into a very stacked reservation schedule for the night (though next time we return we will make a reservation). We started with delicious oysters to celebrate the night and each ordered a pasta dish. All were incredible and on our go-to list now for trips to NYC.
The restaurant creates an environment where special things happen. Friendly team. No other establishment comes close. They value quality ingredients over heavy salt. This spot delivers a unique dining event.
Fantastic meal- extraordinary pasta light and perfectly sauces- butternut squash floats, black seafood linguine delights - arugula salad and poached pears never tasted so good. What is that sauce and dressing recipe? NYT - pls profile
My daughter Emily and I have been all over Manhattan.. Petrarca Cucina E Vino on White Street is the Best, truly authentic Italian restaurants we have eaten at! From the Sangria...to the Deserts.. Spectacular! Thank you! GRAZIE!
Nice restaurant. Great atmosphere. The servers were very attentive. We were a group of 4 having dinner after a Broadway show. Three of us chose from the special. A pasta dish with capers, tomato sauce and fresh tuna. Sorry, can't remember the name but it was very delicious. Ordered a pizza as an appetizer. Very good also.
Brilliant spot for dinner in Tribeca! Pasta was magnificent, wines paired perfectly. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Best restaurant in the city. The orecchiette is incredible
Petrarca is my new favorite place! The entire staff was warm and welcoming from the moment we walked through the door. Emilio and his dad are true professionals and were very accommodating to us. The food is delicious and the ambiance is just as great!!! I ordered the beef w/arugula small plate and seafood pasta. It was so good that I forgot to take pics lol. I will come here every time I’m in the city.
We had a lovely meal at this restaurant after getting some documents at the courthouse. We showed up a few minutes before they were officially opened and we were welcomed warmly in. I have a few allergies and found a great dish I could eat! Very happy about that. The scramble with zucchini and onions was perfectly paired with potatoes and a salad! It was fresh and yummy! My dining companion had a broth with tortellini in it followed by a pasta with Bolognese which he thoroughly enjoyed. There was a good beer for companion and I have a lovely tea. The service was lovely the wait staff was exuberant and helpful. I found the service very warm and friendly. I'd highly recommend this spot for an array of meals with an array of people.
We've been here three times so far and just love it! The waitstaff are really nice & the food is just wonderful. I had to try the homemade lasagna & it was a real treat! The pizza, chicken caesar salad, and even the hamburgers were excellent, too. I really appreciate that the restaurant is quieter than most, too! Thanks so much-
Great neighborhood place I’ve been going for 10+ years always excellent food. Literally anything you get will be delicious.
This place is fantastic.Great knowledge of wines and an amazing selection. I had the avocado cucumber soup to start and the gnocchi as my entree and I can’t say enough good things about the food and service. I will definitely return and recommend.
I can heartily recommend this place! The staff were really nice and what look like simple meals in the menu turned out to be very tasty and the portions were big. Given the NYC standards the prices were reasonable. Good value for money for food that will not disappoint you!
My favorite restaurant in the whole wide world. Everything is perfect - food, drinks, staff, owners. I come back again and again.
I absolutely despise mushrooms. I don't go near them like the plague. Despite this, I took a chance at this hidden gem when my friends and I sat down for dinner and allowed the host to order his recommended dishes. He brought out Chicken Marsala, Lasagna, and Gnocchi. The lasagna and gnocchi were the best pasta dishes I've had probably in my lifetime - authentic, perfectly textured, and bursting with flavor. I was hesitant to try the chicken marsala due to the mushrooms, but out of respect for the host and the chef, I took the plunge. To my genuine surprise, both the chicken and mushrooms were delicious, the sauce rich and complex. We also enjoyed a couple bottles from their generous wine selection, thoughtfully organized by quartino. The space feels both cozy and vibrant, with conversation bouncing gently off the bottle-lined walls. Watching staff climb to reach bottles from ceiling-high shelves adds to the charm. If they can make a lifelong mushroom-hater clean their plate and ask for more, they can impress anyone.
Truly incredible experience!! A family-owned Italian gem in Tribeca. The best pasta I have had in New York City (and I have had a lot of pasta in New York City). I got the butternut squash ravioli and everyone at our 10 person table cleaned their plates. Highly recommend!!!
The food is delicious, the ambiance is great, and the wine selection is even better! The manager, Ivano is amazing and makes you feel right at home, and like you’re part of the family! This is my go to place for authentic Italian cuisine. Definitely recommend!
Super friendly service. We asked for a Cacio e Pepe (not in the menu) and they made a great one for us. We also had some delicious Bolognese and a remarkable chicken marsala. Setting is simple but warm and we can hear ourselves talk. With a few negroni and some grappa, the night was definitely a success!
Love this place! It’s a cozy, family-run restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere and even better food. The lasagna is absolutely delicious, and the ricotta cheesecake is to die for! The manager was exceptionally sweet and made sure that my party and I were treated like VIPs. I’ll definitely be back!
Exactly what we were hoping for in a NYC Italian restaurant. We had pizza AND pasta, and both were fantastic. The service was great, the food seemed authentic (I’m far too unsophisticated to know for sure!) and tasted amazing. The environment was classy and relaxing. Recommended and would visit again.
Food and service were excellent! The specials were great, and I would recommend any homemade pasta they make. Very friendly and helpful staff. We had a great time and plan to go back. Mangia!
Every dish our party got was fantastic. We were all sharing 4 pasta dishes since they were all so good. The bread was great as well - tasted like it was baked next to a campfire in the best way possible - really something special! The host was very friendly and welcoming! So happy we ended up at this special family-run restaurant!
I have found the best lasagna i have every tasted. It reminded me of the greek pastichio. Great portion size, not to saucy, perfect balance and portion of meat and cream sauce (bechamel). Its like a boutique restaurant, wonderful place, definitely has the italian vibe to it on a modern scale. Love it!
Authentic and delicious Italian food. We found this place by chance and would definitely return. Excellent service.
Lovely ambiance, attentive service, delicious food. The wine selection was just right (and I’m not really a sweets person but the tiramisu was perfection). Can’t wait to revisit!
Hands down the best carbonara, veal scallopini and Sangria in town! Their service is impeccable! Emillio had extensive knowledge on wine and offered amazing suggestions. He was so gracious and made the entire experience flawless! Simply one of the best restaurants in town, I couldn’t recommend them enough!
Walking by and decided to eat outside on this beautiful NYC day. Alfonso waited on us with his beautiful smile and charm. The food and service exceeded expectations. This place is officially a new favorite.
Wow what an amazing authentic Italian restaurant!! I ended up here with a birthday party for 10 and it could not have been better. We got burrata, salads, and a variety of pastas and other dishes. I was absolutely obsessed with the butternut squash ravioli it was fantastic. The service was so wonderful and we felt very valued as customers. They have a great wine list too. I love supporting a real family restaurant, we met some of the family that owns it and they were truly so warm and kind. My friends and I will definitely be back in the future!
This is one of my favorite restaurants to dine at in NY! I have had so many memorable experiences here and the staff is lovely. The food is truly authentic and delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking out a great authentic Italian meal and a cozy atmosphere. Ps.. the cheesecake is out of this world 😍
OMG. This is the gem of all gems. This now tops my list as the greatest homemade pasta in NY. This is not your usual mediocre overpriced Tribeca spot. This is outstanding and I’m telling everyone! Get the homemade bolognese pasta and/or the lasagna and you’ll taste flavors you’ve never tasted outside of Italy. Generous outdoor seating on a warm night has you feeling like you’re in Florence. Cannot wait to come back for their desserts and more of their homemade pastas and fluffy bread. 5 stars!!!!!
Always wanted to stop by and check out the place. We had some fried calamari and kind of Burrata salad which was fresh and tasty. For the main dish we ordered seafood pasta and ravioli and both of them were amazing! Atmosphere and service is great as well. Price is little overpriced as like in every restaurant in NYC but good thing is that you will get quality food
We had the Red and White sangria and both ordered a second round. Both were good but I also tasted the white and would order that next time. Started with the tuna tartare and burrata with the speck (special) which were great. I had the bolognese and would return for this dish alone. I use to be obsessed with Osteria Morinis bolognese (pre-pandemic) and this was right there or beyond. Service and ambience were nice too and prices were good. Highly recommend overall but would dabble in other appetizers next time (not that what we had was bad).
This is an amazing Italian restaurant. It is family run by an Italian chef that has been in the business more than 30 years. Everything was just as authentic as you can hope for. The bread had a perfect crust on the outside and a soft inside, the lasagna was NOT drowning in sauce but had a perfect balance of baciamella sauce and meat, and the tiramisu was just simply incredible. If you are looking for an authentic Italian experience you cannot go wrong!
Excellent setting with notable appetisers. Entrees are well done and the table near was particularly tasty. Fast and attentive servers. Unisex restroom available and reservations are recommended for dinner and on weekends. Directly across the street from the Tribeca Grand Hotel.
Thr place looked cool and a friend wanted to go as we were across the street at the Roxy hotel. The staff was attentive and friendly. The Gnocco tartufo special was good. The gnocchi was soft and the sauce Buttery and decadent. Needed bread to soak it up. There was a ton of truffle on top. Personaly too much as I like hints of truffle and not so much. Everyone liked this dish. Shared by four of us. The charcuterie wasn't that great. We felt some of the meats were too salty and woule liked some cheese wiith it. Out fault for not asking for cheese. The wine the waiter recommended was really good and the bottle was $65. My friends had the tuna tartare and pork Chop and said they liked it. It was s quick stop so didn't eat a ton.
The food is very good. High quality. I ordered the salad with gorgonzola cheese and pears. It was very refreshing. I ordered the sweet and sour salmon with cranberries. It arrived over greens. I should have ordered a different appetizer. Too many greens. For dessert, I ordered the chocolate bread pudding because it was a house specialty. It was interesting. The prices are expensive. Around $45 for lunch. The service was good. I would go back to this restaurant. The menu has a wide variety - everything from pizza, pasta, paninis, and entrees.
The food was good, especially the bread. Calamari and tuna tartar were delicious. However, the most delicious antipasti was Bufala Mozazarella. On the other hand, pasta special, such as pesto, was cooked right, but it had too much sauce. Also, the owner, who is very old school, is not the friendliest person. I would give a 5 star if it was not for those 2 factors
Small (in a good way), warm atmosphere, good food.
Had both the red and white fresh sangria. They were good and refreshing.
Such a find! Incredibly fresh and authentic Italian. I lived in NY for over a decade and just discovered this hidden Tribeca gem. We walked in for an early Sunday dinner. Lovely wait staff. Don’t hesitate to book
Solid date night with the homies. 8 of us made reservations, brought wine (our friend is a wine rep and set it up) and had delicious food. Only one of us were disappointed in our meal. I got one of the specials - the pappardelle with duck Ragu. It was a nice helping. Not a giant plate and not a skimpy one. Perfect amount. It was good, but didn't knock my socks off. My buddy got the same and was amazed. Wife got the butternut squash ravioli with a brown butter sauce. She enjoyed her meal and my bite of her food was on point. The rest of the squad got the special ricotta gnocchi with truffle oil. My bite of that was exquisite. Light and delicious. Cannelloni (stuffed with Ricotta and spinach) looked good. The carbonara was exactly what it should have been. Creamy, bacony and great. The letdown was the spaghetti and turkey meatballs. My buddy had maybe 3 bites. I took some to see what all the hate was about and agreed that the flavor of the sauce was bland n disappointing. The meatballs were good but needed more spice. Every pasta dish could've been a tad more Al dente, but that's just my "Been to Italy boujee side" talkin. All in all, a great experience. The wine was flowing. The conversations were going. And the service was top notch. Shout out to Alfonso, who was the best waiter we could've asked for.
Excellent service, but the food was pedestrian. Fish was overcooked, pasta was under-flavored. Very good wine by the glass selection. Moderate prices. Probably won't go back often.
This place is pretty mediocre. I wasn’t really impressed with much between the food and the ambiance. It felt pretty vibeless, almost like I was in an airport… the lights were super bright for dinnertime and for some reason their AC wasn’t running on an 80 degree evening. The food was overpriced and just average. With all of the amazing restaurants in NYC I would say this isn’t worth the money.
Place looks nice, the waitress and the guy who brought our drinks were great, but the food took almost a half an hour to arrive (it was really good though). But the issue was the environment. The clientele are rather rude and the owner or manager (some old lady) just stood behind our table glaring at us. We felt very unwelcome.
Overall I felt like this place was kind of meh. I would describe it as average at best. I don’t mind paying premium prices for a high quality experience and food but I felt let down after spending $150 for a cheeseburger, salmon and veggie meal and a glass of wine (no appetizer and no dessert). I was seated right in front of the bathroom and my waiter just disappeared after taking our order. We sat the entire meal with the empty bread basket and plates that were finished just sitting there. If you are looking for a place that matches the high end prices this is not the place.
The food and fresh sangria were great! As a vegetarian, I appreciated the number of meatless entree items. (Elsewhere on our trip it was difficult to find more than one vegetarian option that wasn't salad or soup). The service was not good, and we were confused by the awkwardness. When we entered the restaurant, there was no host stand or person waiting by the door, and no sign saying wait to be seated or seat yourself. So after a few seconds we just sat down at one of several empty tables. The server comes over to give us menus, and asks if we will be there longer than 1.5 hours since he has a reservation. I thought it was a bit rude to phrase it that way, and we did not intend to stay that long, but whatever. We figured if he wanted us to move tables he could have just asked. We didn't have any problems, it just felt as if we were an annoyance to the staff, even though the place was nearly empty...
I am staying near by the restaurant and after walking past it several times on my way to work, I thought I must try it! My experience started off wonderfully...My friend and I ate very well and the food was delicious. As many have said below - fresh, authentic Italian, portions are great and atmosphere is warming. The house wine is delicious and just the right amount for two small glasses. After wonderful service from a young man, I was shocked when I came home and checked my bank account. I had included a tip in the full amount I asked to be charged on my card, and specifically wrote "included" on the final receipt. The transaction was processed as such, however it was then corrected (refunded/cancelled) and re-charged for $10 more than what I noted. I will try to contact the owner to rectify this as I find it extremely dishonest and rather disappointing after what I thought was a great experience at the restaurant. Especially because I was hoping to go back for another evening... I would suggest to make sure you're next to the person processing the transaction.
The first time we came here was over 10 years ago and we had such a bad experience, we figured it’s been long enough so let’s give it another shot. Outside of the grumpy old man who greets you at the entrance, who I think is the same one that was there 10 years ago, the service was very pleasant and friendly. The bread is absolutely delicious and the olive oil is good. That’s about it. The Caesar salad is drenched in oil, not even sure what that was. The pizza tasted like microwavable pizza with a fried crust. The Brodo with tortellini was average, perfectly OK and definitely needed the extra Parmesan and pepper added to it. The orecchiette was good, but tasted more like mac & cheese. The Bronzino was fine, unfortunately they do not debone the fish so that was a fun challenge. The wine was perfectly fine as well. It was a very average and underwhelming experience. The tables are right next to each other so you have about 6 inches of space between you and the person at the next table, which unfortunately is standard for some NYC restaurants. I certainly will not go back and will not recommend this restaurant. It wasn’t a horrible experience. It was just very average. and I believe it is a popular place because it is relatively inexpensive compared to other NYC restaurants. But you get what you pay for.
The food for such a high price was okay (there are delicious restaurants in Tribeca with lower prices); it was nothing special, just ok, as we thought. In 20-30 min after we left, we started feeling dizzy, and it got worse and worse. I don't want to go into detail on how I felt the whole day after. Don't recommend this place.
Food was OK. It wasn’t bad but wasn’t good . They ran out of bread after one little bowl and we were 9 people. I order the gnocchi the sauce was disappointing and bland it reminded me of chef Boyarde and the food took over a hour to come when the restaurant was not that busy.
The food was very tasty but the experience was brought down when I noticed they had inserted a 'mandatory' 20% tip for our party of four. I asked about it and our waiter said it was standard and that we must be new to New York... Then he got defensive and asked, "What? You didn't like your service?" They way it was written it would have been very easy to accidentally tip on top of the tip. Check your bill!
Great bread, decent tuna tartare, and then… the plot twist: a grey carbonara with onions. Yes—grey. With onions. At the very least, put a warning on the menu or just call it what it is: carbONIONara. And when customers complain, replying with “that’s how our chef does it and he’s Italian” is not the flex they think it is. Overall? A culinary jump scare I didn’t sign up for. Would not recommend, and definitely not going back.
Lovely wait staff but the food is average at best and because of that extremely overpriced. My bruschetta was uninspired plain and unseasoned, the chicken dish adorned with a wilted and slightly mushy arugula salad. I would say either the chef or the menu needs enlivening - perhaps both. Overall a dull experience.
Way overpriced. The pizza was almost tasteless and the dough was very bad (it seemed frozen dough). In general the food was not that good. Definitely not worth the price they charge for it. Many other Italian restaurants better than this one in the city.
Would not recommend. Ordered an individual pizza, it was pricey so I thought I would get something better than a dollar slice. It took about 40 minutes to come out and when it did, it was very dry and crispy.... I ate it because I was hungry but it was not good at all. Will never come back - not worth it!
Was not a great experience. From the four of us, we ordered two spaghetti with turkey meatballs dishes, one black linguine with seafood dish, and a ravioli dish (this is the one the waiter messed up on). For one thing, the waiter misunderstood one of us while ordering and that person received the wrong dish. After that was resolved, another person in our group found a piece of metal in their seafood dish. When we finally got the waiter attention, they looked at it and took it back to the kitchen saying they will remake it. Now at this point we were kind of frustrated because this place has good reviews but only two out of four of us had our food. In the meantime of the "remaking" of the seafood dish, the spaghetti was alright but the meatballs were not even warm in my dish. Once the seafood dish was done and back to our table, this is where I'm pretty sure they microwaved it and brought it back because the middle of the food was steaming hot and the shrimp became rubbery. I'm not sure it was microwaved, but I'm pretty sure. Overall I won't be coming back, it was over expensive for the service we received. Would not recommend.
My husband and I returned to this restaurant hoping for a better experience, but unfortunately, we were disappointed once again. The pizza took too long to arrive and when it did, it was dry and difficult to eat. The service was average, but what surprised us the most was finding a 20% gratuity already included on the check, even though we were only a party of two. When questioned, the server mentioned that it's their policy. Overall, our visit left us unsatisfied and we hope the restaurant addresses these issues for future customers.
I have never gone out of my way to write a review but this was a really really disappointing experience. Will also note there was nothing wrong with the experience-- Service and ambience were warm and welcoming. The main issue was that the quality of ingredients used were honestly so poor and at such a high price inexcusable! The fennel was rubbery and flavorless, and overall the pizza and eggplant that we ordered were just really really mediocre. I wouldn't have gone out of my way to write a review on here if weren't so expensive. Its such a shame we used to really love going to this place....
The Food si good. The service is very bad. I went with my wife and they practically kicked us out in 15 minutes.
