Opinions de Shabu-Tatsu New York
We haven’t been in four years. We were pleasantly surprised by how good the food remains and how refreshed the restaurant look after the renovation from 2 yrs ago. The restaurant looks brighter, lighter and just more fun. The night we came for dinner, the clientele seemed younger and again more fun. That said, the star of the night remains the food. The beef in our sukiyaki was soft, and super yummy. The veggies were complimentary and rounded out the flavors of our dish. We ordered extra prime beef, and veggies and noodles. We also order more beer and sake. We totally enjoyed our evening. If you have never been or haven’t been in a while come again or come back and give it another try. You won’t be disappointed and we highly recommend.
Great food. Me and my fiancé came here for his birthday. I didn’t book the perfect time beforehand, and we arrived earlier than the time we booked (1 hour early), but they quickly arranged the seats for us. Not encouraging this behavior, but thanks! Also, the Sukiyaki was really nice and warm, great during the winter time. The inner decor is much nicer than most of the pictures here, I wonder why they haven’t posted any better ones. (Just a little advice, I think the sukiyaki in the end became a bit too sweet, maybe turn down the sweet level just a little bit when you see Asians lol)
Great shabu experience! The ingredients were fresh, the broth was flavorful, and everything was clean and well-prepared. What really stood out was the service especially the male hostess with glasses, who was incredibly polite, attentive, and welcoming. Definitely a place I would come back to!
Simple and good Shabu-shabu place. The staff is very nice and accommodating. The food is very good and quite traditional, no frills. We got the shabu-shabby dish which comes with a mountain of vegetables and your own choice of meats. Make sure to get an amount of meat that fits your group size, the prices on the menu are per one portion of meat and you can combine different kinds or get multiple portions of the same. We also got the duck, guidance, salmon, and mushrooms appetizers. All were pretty tasty
My first experience dining here this weekend with friends. They acknowledged it was cold and seated us away from the door and provided tea immediately. We ordered three servings of prime rib eye beef for three, and was plenty. The food was fresh and delicious and we were not rushed through our meal. Will return again
This is my absolute favorite shabu shabu( Japanese hot pot) place in NYC. We got Wagyu, Prime Rib, Snow crab for hot pot. All of them were amazing. Their Wagyu just melts in your mouth and nothing can make you any happier than that. They are very popular so I highly recommend to get reservation ahead of time. They have inside and outside seating. Drink menu is also not too bad.
A cloudy day with rain was perfect for a sukiyaki dinner. Seating both indoors and outdoors, we were able to find a table for two without a reservation around 6 PM, although for later it’s highly recommended to reserve. The waiters were very observant and we never had to wait long. The sukiyaki broth was very deep and flavorful and the ingredients were fresh. We had the wagyu and ribeye which were amazing, and absolutely worth the price. The tea was very good as well and perfect for the chilly day. Absolutely would come here again.
We came here for Sukiyaki, a little bit too salty but it’s good overall. Great and very friendly service, it definitely made us feel like home! Will come back soon but hope it can be less salty next time tho
the food and service were excellent, the atmosphere had its downsides. Given that they serve hotpot and sukiyaki, I expected some lingering food smells, but as time went on, it became noticeably heavy. It almost felt like the ventilation system wasn’t quite strong enough to clear the air, making the space feel a bit sticky. That being said, the food was great, and the service was even better! The staff was attentive and even helped cook the meal, which gave us more time to relax and chat.
They have a double door situation to help insulate but because the two doors are close together, it does not help; people usually open both doors and if it's cold out, all that cold air rushes in. So if you're seated near the entrance, the chances are you'll be quite cold until you have a hotpot or grill going in front of you. The whole place just seems cramped. It seems like they went through a renovation but IMO they would've benefited from less number of tables. Their beef tongue was very tough when grilled, even when following the server's instruction to grill 10-15 seconds per side. Would not recommend. Their wagyu beef shabu was excellent. Quite pricy, however, and at 2 orders minimum, it amounts to $160! But, they do give you enough to get 2 people quite full, so maybe worth if you're really into shabu.
We visited Shabu-Tatsu East Village as a group of four for their Sukiyaki and the experience was decent. The decor was authentic but narrowed-spaced and not ventilated. This was our only complaint since it was really smoky even though the smell was good in the restaurant. Food was overall delicious with reasonable price and portion. Our favorite was their beef, the quality was great and super tender. The complimentary dessert ice cream was also good, especially the matcha flavor, which is creamy and not too sweet.
Experience was good overall. Seemed like the place tried to be authentic Japanese, but had some Asian fusion. Meat was really good, better than most American places. However many Korean BBQ and other Japanese places have better. That being noted, I think the price point of this place is actually very good. For the price you pay, I think the quality is adequate. As most noted, service does seem to have issues - could be improved, but we were overall happy with it. Overall, good experience and we will repeat. Also, best to make reservations if you can.
Food is mediocre. Service is so bad. The waiter had his fingers in the rice when he handed over the bowl. It’s also extremely overpriced. The wagyu doesn’t taste good. Would never go back
