Opinions de Slate Cafe New York
I ate here 2 days on vacation and the food and coffee was great! Very fresh food served relatively fast considering the crowd and fresh hot coffee. My only regret is I wish I would’ve gone here more instead of Starbucks on that one day. Honestly I was impressed by the presentation of the food and just the overall experience in general. I’ll make a point to come here again when I’m on vacation.
Great place to pick up a healthy lunch and some coffee while you're at it. Also the only place I've ever seen with a brussel sprouts caesar salad, which turned out to be pretty delicious. Got the flank steak topping for some protein, and you're good to go. Will be back here to try out other options in the future.
The food here is absolute crack. I can’t come to nyc without stopping in for their breakfast bowl or chicken pesto. Great latte as well.
Amid the buzz of NoMad, Slate Cafe feels like a breath of calm. The interiors are thoughtfully designed neutral tones, subtle textures, and that perfect window light that makes your coffee moment feel a little more cinematic. The baristas know their craft without the attitude, and each cup reflects that care especially the flat white, which somehow always lands just right. Their bites are seasonal and intentional, but it’s the vibe that lingers with you: easygoing, grown-up, and refreshingly distraction-free. Slate isn’t trying to be everything. It’s just quietly, confidently good. And in a city that never stops, that stillness is rare and worth returning to.
the skinny girl with glasses took my order and she was so friendly and helpful. made me and my friend the most delicious iced matcha
Amazing and kindest staff - plus one of the best matcha lattes ive ever tried!
One of the best breakfast cafes I have found in NYC so far. The cold and hot beverages are delicious, food has a nice homemade feel to it, is very tasty and the service is super kind. The only downside would be the fact that the music in the establishment is very very loud at times. But food wise it's delicious. I had a bagel with salad, cream cheese and lachs. Quite pleased.
My new favorite coffee & chill breakfast/brunch spot in the area. Perfect for a bite with friends, getting work done (great Wi-Fi) or a casual date. Try: - salmon egg & cheese on focaccia - cold brew (proper caffeine kick) Added bonus: they have paper straws 💕 Atmosphere: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Food: 5/5
place is great, food comes quickly protions are quite big and very tasty. service is amazing and the atmosphere was amzing. prices are the same as in every other place so highly recommend
Always been wanting to try this place after reading so many good reviews about their Avocado toast and breakfast waffles. I only got to try their Avocado toast, but it really lived up to its hype and was made to perfection. Drizzle of honey combined with a sprinkle of chili, pinch of salt, and a bit of sourness from the toast created a flavor explosion that beautifully harmonized with the umami flavor of the avocado. The hazelnut latte that I got on the side was also great for neutralizing my palate in between each bite.
Amazing place, amazing people, amazing food ! The staff was suuuper friendly, helpful, hard working .The place was so busy, but the nice hostess managed to find us a table for less than 5 minutes. The atmosphere was delightful. I honestly think they don’t charge enough for the quality they offer. And last but not least - the food OMG I had troubles picking my meal because everything on the menu looks delicious. Breakfast, lunch , coffee drinks. There’s also a free water station. I’m so happy me and my friend went there for brunch. I strongly recommend to everyone.
Amazing breakfast place. Staying in the hotel nearby and went to this place for breakfast two mornings in the row. All sandwiches were good. I had smoked salmon and it was amazing. The place is very trendy and customer service is excellent. And look the food it not only tastes good it also looks great. Highly recommended. Will stop by when next time in the city.
Our party of 5 took a trip to New York City for my birthday. We chose our places to eat through Instagram. Black Slate Coffee did not disappoint. Everything from food, atmosphere to staff was a 5 Star. One of the employees even purchased my breakfast for my birthday. How kind is that!. Like most places in New York City the restaurant is small however we were seated fairly quickly after arrival. It was well worth the wait. We purchased a latte while standing in line and just like everything else it was wonderful. You have to try the cast iron Smore‘s if you go here.
This place is amazing. I had the breakfast bowl - it was a ton of perfectly cooked vegetables + an egg and was super filling. I also had their house almond milk matcha latte which wasn’t sweet at all but still not vegetal. 10/10 would recommend both. They also have healthy grab and go (overnight oats, ginger shots, and more) which are perfect to take with you. The service was super speedy and nice. Total for breakfast + juice shot + latte was $24.
sometimes you just wish you could go back in time to eat something for the first time again. that's how i feel about their sweet toast. absolute heaven. had it with a hot matcha latte which was the perfect contrast of sweet and bitter. their matcha is not too sweet which is appreciated. the spot was busy around 9:30-10am so i opted to eat at the outdoor tables but the inside is super chic and spacious.
Came in here to take a break from the rain and to have something warm - what a great find! The coffee is GOOD and they have so many different variations / drink options. Although we didn’t try the food (aside from dessert), the menu seemed rly good and again a big range of options. There is lots of seating and the place overall is very cute and cozy! We tried the s’mores dessert - AMAZINGG! so so good! Paired with coffee and tea, it was a very sweet afternoon! The staff were also very lovely! When the shop was closing down, they came over to us to let us know but did not rush us as we packed up our things and used the restroom before heading out which was really nice.
Solid spot in Midtown, a real gem in an area that's not exactly known for being cozy. It's like a little Aussie cafe oasis amid all the city noise. They've got the good stuff – top-notch coffee, killer avo toasts, granola, yogurt, you name it. Food's on point, coffee hits the mark, and the folks working there? Super friendly and chill. Definitely a place I'd swing by again.
I found a new gem just north of the flat iron district. This place is right next to my office and a perfect spot for a delicious lunch. I went with the flank steak sandwich and it was incredible. The place was packed but the food came out super quick and the staff is very friendly. I didn’t try the coffee but I will be back for sure. There’s a reason why it was so busy… the food is great.
Great place for a quick and healthy breakfast. They are generally pretty busy but the service is still quick. The food is freshly prepared and delicious! I especially enjoyed the lox with capers. The coffee was also excellent. It’s also very reasonably priced for the food. Would visit again!
Such a cute place! A friend recommended it and it didn’t disappoint. I ordered the dijon chicken pea salad sandwich which came with some Arugula. My friends gets a turkey sandwich and the salmon with egg. We ordered inside then grabbed a table outside and the staff brought out everything. Overall service was great, fair prices and everything was clean
Beautiful, spacious cafe with delicious drinks. Had the chai latte and vanilla rose matcha latte (not one for matcha but the other flavors balanced out the drink nicely!), while my friend had the raspberry hot chocolate. The baristas are also very sweet and chill, creating a further welcoming environment. Didn’t eat this time but my friend enjoyed a rustic chicken sandwich, which all drinks and food were served to our table and we could keep the number in case we ordered more (super convenient!). Highly recommended, especially as this is a laptop-friendly environment with WiFi!
I've discovered a restaurant that I'll be visiting regularly from now on. Their dishes deliver every time. The employees maintain a friendly demeanor. This place sets standards that shame competitors. Check this restaurant out – it's worth your time.
Great coffee and food spot! Has all the standard coffee combos you would find + some special seasonal drinks. I would recommend the Chocolate Chip Pancake latte if you have the spare calories! The food is also quite delicious; can’t go wrong with a bacon scramble. Also has outdoor seating.
A very good cafe when it is not too busy. Food and Drinks are top notch. They usually have a specialty coffee that is typically worth having.
Today i went there for brunch with friends. The employees! AWESOME! Helpful, friendly and NICE! The food- delicious, not that expensive AND so good! Iam not vegan at all but i loved the vegan banana bread! The barista have a special credits too! My cappuccino - amazing! My friend tried the quinoa salad with flank stake also incredible . We all have great time and I definitely would go back and i gonna recommend this to all my people
We got breakfast takeout from here during an overnight to NYC. It was absolutely delicious! I was really impressed with the menu and was so relieved that they had non-dairy milk options for our coffee! The coffee was excellent quality! I would absolutely eat here again and would recommend it to anyone else. I wish I had taken more pictures of our food, because it was as beautiful as it was delicious!
Thankfully we found this gem!!! We are SO IMPRESSED with the beauty of the dishes and how FAST they got us our food. Everything we ordered was gorgeous, atmosphere is gorgeous, modern, beautiful decor. I would come here again and again. We ate a full breakfast: avocado toast, mushroom scramble, and rose berry waffles. Then ordered hot chocolates to go for the day, mine with oat milk. Go, you won't regret it!
Great food, coffee, and vibes. It was fancier than I thought it would be. The interior is super cute. We sat outside because the weather was nice. I got the bacon scramble with gluten free bread. The scramble part was great and the bread was very grainy. They bring the food to you after you order it and clear the dishes as well. They have a water spout and cups.
hotel gave me vouchers for this restaurant and I took my sisters for breakfast. So glad I did! I fell in love with the avo toast!! The drizzle of honey and the green spouts are such a nice addition. The chili pepper flakes really add a pop to the dish!! We also had the bacon, egg & cheese sandwich. The bacon was so thick and crispy and it was a full sandwich with lettuce and tomato. The Egg whites with avocado toast were definitely my favorites. And the coffee…amazing! I’m adding Blank Slate to my list of favorite breakfast places in the city. Absolute recommend!!
Excellent service and amazing food. I had a waffle with fresh berry jam and it was incredible! So good we came back again today to have a granola breakfast! All the staff are super friendly and at your service to help you choose your breakfast. I will recommend this cafe for your date, when you want to chill or even to work from if you’re like me working remotely!
one of the best black coffee I’ve ever had. Great cafe to get delicious breakfast. It was crowded but the service was quick and we found seats immediately. We had Salmon and egg sandwich (the bread was insanely good) and the Avocado whites sandwich. We’ll definitely be back whenever we visit NY.
My go to breakfast place ins NYC! I visit the NoMad location quite frequently and love it every single time. I get their bacon scramble which comes with sourdough bread. I also get their iced mo ha which is delish. Overall quick service and friendly staff. Limited seating but usually can find somewhere. They have two communal tables and a booth along the wall.
I’m so glad I found this place!! It’s kind of expensive, yes, but the quality is good and the portions are huge. For $27 I got the chicken salad wrap which was HUGE and full of veggies and came with a small side salad and a soup which was also large and came with two pieces of bread. So a wrap, side salad, soup, and bread. It was enough food that I have lunch for tomorrow so $27 for 2 healthy meals doesn’t bother me. Also the spiced cauliflower soup is AMAZING and it’s dairy free/vegan!!!!
I'm a lazy riser on the weekends, so I came here for some brunch. Mushroom scramble was great, I liked how the egg, mushroom, and feta all came together for such a great taste. The granola in the yogurt was delightfully crunchy, I liked the matcha and chia pudding, it was a great brunch!
Went here for breakfast around 9 am on. Tuesday. Service was great and food was very high quality. I had a marshmallow infused Matcha latte and it was the perfect amount of sweetness. Bacon scramble was great too. Food came out very quickly even though they were pretty busy. There is a good amount of seating inside for nyc, but probably gets crowded at certain times.
Was looking for a quick bite in the neighborhood before heading to the airport. Ran across this via Google and saw the good reviews. I came in around 1030am and the place was mostly full. It took a few minutes to decide, but I settled on the Breakfast bowl (add bacon) and a peppermint mocha. I have to say, the breakfast bowl was absolutely amazing. Everything complemented each other perfectly, and the cilantro dressing just tied it all together. The mocha was excellent. I left extremely satisfied that my last meal in NYC was such a great experience.
So happy to find this breakfast spot during our stay in NYC. Super clean tasty food and coffee was amazing (being from Aus coffee is important so I really rate the coffee here). A cool atmosphere and the staff were so kind and friendly. The avocado on toast was drizzled with a touch of honey which worked super well & mushroom scramble is a must try. The space isn’t massive but has tables and high tables and we were always able to find a seat - also has some tables outside. We’ll definitely be back!!
Slate Cafe Nomad in New York has quickly become one of my favorite spots in the city. I visited on two separate occasions and was blown away both times. On my first visit, I ordered the breakfast pizza and a chai, and it was absolutely delicious. The pizza was perfectly balanced with fresh ingredients and just the right amount of cheese—an ideal way to start the day. The chai was warm, comforting, and spiced just right. I couldn’t resist returning the next day, and this time I opted for the avocado toast with another chai. The avocado toast was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Paired with their consistently excellent chai, it made for a fantastic breakfast. The atmosphere at Slate Cafe Nomad is cozy and inviting, making it the perfect place to relax, enjoy a meal, and sip on some chai. Whether you're a local or just passing through, this café is a must-visit for a memorable breakfast experience. Highly recommended!
I recently spent some time at State Cafe and had a delightful experience. The sandwich I ordered was fantastic—fresh, flavorful, and perfectly made. The coffee was also good, providing just the right pick-me-up. One of the highlights of State Cafe is its ambiance. It’s an ideal spot to work, with a relaxed atmosphere and comfortable seating. The open window offers a great view of the bustling streets, making it a perfect place to watch people go by while getting some work done. Overall, State Cafe NYC combines excellent food and coffee with a pleasant, productive environment.
This place was honestly amazing. I skipped out during lunch to come here and the food was so filling, and the service was great. The guy behind was actually very handsome!

Visiting NYC with the family, we had breakfast two times here in a week. Very good food, eggs in all possible varieties, fresh ingredients and reasonable price.
Slate Coffee is a hidden gem in the heart of New York City. We stopped by for a quick break and ended up staying longer than expected simply because of how cozy and calming the space felt. The coffee was excellent — smooth, rich, and clearly made with care. You can tell they take their craft seriously. One of the highlights was the view. Whether you're sitting by the window or outside, it's the kind of place where you can just pause, breathe, and enjoy the moment — something rare in such a fast-moving city. Although we didn’t get a chance to try the food, the dishes being served around us looked absolutely delicious and well-presented. We’re definitely planning to come back to try them next time.
5 star for the food and for the guy who came out and delivered the food. 4 star for the drip coffee. 3 star for the rude cashier on the morning of the 10/20/25 who was out right rude and then kept whispering to the guy making espresso drinks while looking at me, even though I tipped well and thanked him. It would have been a 5 star review if it weren’t for the cashier who basically ruined my experience there. I won’t be returning and won’t be referring people.
Bacon scramble was very tasty and the portion was generous. Bit too much cheddar for my liking, but was good nevertheless. Coffee was a bit disappointing and seemed watered down and had a weird flavor. This place was walking distance from the hotel I stayed at. Definitely better than any hotel offerings for breakfast. Worth checking out.
Great local shop! Staff is friendly and quick. Coffee and chai are so good. Both pastries and hot breakfast items were very yummy too!
Little loud and crowded but it is to be expected on Saturday. Not terrible. The shared table thing next to loud people isn't my thing though. Outside tables/chairs need an update but it was clean. Workers ate accommodating. Workers are friendly enough. No complaints
Came here for lunch on a Saturday. Waited about 5-10 minutes for a table to open up but altogether wasn’t that bad. Space is first come first serve after ordering. Ordered the flank steak sandwich, a pumpkin muffin, pesto chicken bowl, and some coffee. All the food was really tasty. The flank steak sandwich was nice and tender and juicy. The muffin was moist and had a nice faint sweetness from the pumpkin. The hot vanilla latte was great. The “Vietnamese” coffee was not a Vietnamese coffee at all, but was not bad as a regular iced coffee. I’ve learned that NYC truly does not have any “real” Vietnamese options, but you can’t blame me for wanting to try. Overall a solid spot for lunch. I wouldn’t stray too far from the classics, since a classic cafe can’t be expected to excel in anything but classic cafe food.
A nice little spot for a quick bite. I was here around 10am on a Saturday for brunch. It wasn't too busy, perhaps 75% capacity. Was able to order quickly and grab a counter spot. The food and latte were overall reasonable. They forgot I had ordered two extra eggs for the avocado toast so they had to bring them out separately about 5 minutes after the toast. The avocado toast was slightly on the small side -- to my mild surprise, but then I recalibrated my expectations because the price was relatively lower than toasts I've gotten at other Manhattan spots. The honey was a somewhat interesting twist, but I think slightly too much -- the sweet honey was a little too strong. Nevertheless I give a 4 ⭐ for all areas.
This place is consistently crowded. Just a heads up in case you want to dine in. You order at the counter, get a number and pray you can find a seat. It's not a small place but it's cozy and since th…

A casual cafe serving breakfast, sandwiches, light bites and brews, this was a great go-to find. Located in a busy, NoMad location serving tasty dishes, give it a try.
Was VERY busy with all tables full and people hanging around so was a struggle to get in. Upon getting in we ordered baked goods rather than hot food as we didn’t think we could get a seat but they do have outside seating to the side of the building. Coffee. Large is a huge mug. Maybe it was just the beans. Maybe it was the balance of milk/coffee. But the Cafe au Lait tasted a bit soapy/chemically. Muffin. Going from experience. No way was it fresh today. Was really dry and powdery on the outside. Bit soggy inside. Lots of berries which helped to make it more palatable. Filled a hole as they say! Probably bought in. Croissants were fresher and tasted better. Looking around sandwiches look better as these are made fresh on site. Did wait a good bit of time for the drinks to arrive.
Bacon and egg scramble was quite good and filling. Just missing a spread for the bread. Breakfast bowl was overpowered by feta and pesto. It was really unpleasant to eat and even smell! I wanted the salmon dish but it came on ultra chewy ciabatta bread which I dislike. Will try breakfast pizza before deciding if I like this place.
Ciabatta steak and grilled cheese sandwiches were both very standard fair, and scrambled eggs came a bit runny. Looks the part of neighborhood cafe, but tastes a bit like a chain. Especially when it’s packed the service is probably the worst part of the experience. Not the worst but not worth an extra trip.
I ordered the flank steak sandwich on ciabatta roll. What could have been a delicious sandwich was ruined by a clueless chimichuri sauce. Coffee was adequately good. Otherwise quiet and relaxing atmosphere to chat and enjoy a sandwich.
An average breakfast spot — good if you’re looking for something quick. The food was good, though the place is a bit small. The waitress asked us to leave after a while since we’d been at the table for too long. It wasn’t a bad experience, but it shows how popular and busy the place can get. I found the portions a bit small for the price, but overall the café is nice and nicely decorated.
Great food and very attentive service. I came in to work because an online round-up mentioned it was a good coffee shop to WFH from, but the atmosphere on a hot summer day was atrocious. The air conditioning doesn't seem to work, and I spent $14 on an egg scramble just to run away from the heat 25 minutes later to find some new place to park for the day. Something to keep in mind!
Alright, so we finally checked out that breakfast cafe after seeing all the hype. Let me tell you about the avocado toast, because that's what I ordered, and honestly? It was nothing special. I've had my fair share of avocado toasts, and this one just didn't have any unique flavor that made it stand out. It was literally one big piece of toast cut into three. They just sprinkle chili flakes on top. We asked if they could just put it on one of the slices, and they said they couldn't do any custom requests. Seriously? For chili flakes on one piece? Hmmm. So yeah, if you're thinking about the avocado toast, I'd say skip it. Now, my wife got the chai latte, and she actually said it was really good, so at least there's that. As for the place itself, I have to admit it had a nice charm, and the decorations were well done. But it's a pretty small spot, and it was LOUD. If you're hoping to get some work done or have a quiet conversation, this probably isn't the place. Overall, it's a cute cafe, but based on my avocado toast experience, I wouldn't rush back for it.
Decent spot for breakfast with a good, regular selection. Tried the avocado toast with scrambled eggs and a cappuccino. The food was fresh and tasted good, but the coffee was just average. The interior is comfortable, though it can get quite crowded in the early morning, and there aren't many outdoor seating options. An okay experience overall.
