Tartufo Restaurant

Tartufo is a gem in Newton Center. The food is authentic and bursting with flavor, from the fresh pasta to the savory sauces. I went on a Friday so it was definitely crowed I didn't have a reservation but the stuff was very warm welcoming and arrange a table for 2 . It has my first time and it is a perfect place for a romantic date, business date or just a family dinner. The manager was very educated and very kind at the end of our meal went over to our table to ask how everything was.

Family style restaurant, food is great I’ve been there few times years ago and the quality is always there. Food is tasty everything is fresh and service is nice they care about their customers and this is why we come back. Try the cannelloni for dessert amazing before a glace of limoncello

We frequent this place every time we visit Boston. It’s the only place open for lunch during the week, but the food is phenomenal so it’s an easy choice over driving to the city or to Dedham. It’s a staple, having been here for over 2 decades.

Wow the are no words that effectively describe how fantastic the food and service are here. The atmosphere was welcoming and very homey. Each dish was better than the previous which is pretty hard when you start at excellent. We started with appetizers eggplant rollantini and grilled calamari with arugula salad. The eggplant, thinly sliced stuffed with ricotta and spinach was top shelf. The grilled calamari was like no calamari we have ever eaten. Grilled, it melted in your mouth not chewy like fried calamari and the arugula added that balance. Our entrees were shrimp and scallop risotto, lemon chicken with artichoke and red pepper, homemade ravioli with meat ball and fennel sausage and scallops papardelle. The scallops were buttery, tender and all you did was squeeze it between your tongue and roof of your mouth and it just melted away. Everything was way beyond expectations for a local eatery in Newton. A very nice lady stopped by our table to see if everything was ok and we stuck up a conversation. Turns out she was the owner Anna. We now have a new favorite go to Italian restaurant in the Boston area. Also don't forget to try the lemonciello. Top shelf. It just goes to show you that you don't have to go to the North end to get good Italian food.

They are so personable here and provide the best restaurant experience! Tony and David the bartender/server are great ! Food is wonderful ! Definitely come here!

What a great restaurant! The food is absolutely magnificent. My personal favorite is the chicken artichoke dish. The sauce is so good. To finish off the amazing meal, I ordered the limoncello mascarpone cake, which is delicious. My most recent visit I spent the evening with my family and had the pleasure of having Alexia being our server. She is so wonderful, professional, and made sure our night went smoothly. Definitely recommend this restaurant!

We just returned from Tartufo, so it says something that I am writing a review ten minutes after getting home. The staff was wonderful, the food was absolutely delicious, and the ambience was lovely. We chose Tartufo to celebrate my 40th birthday in honor of an incredible Italy trip we took in 2021 (when my husband and I got engaged!). It was the perfect trip down memory lane. They were incredibly thoughtful and brought me bread pudding (which I love) and champagne for both my husband and I. We will absolutely go back to support the business and to have a great time!

I went to Tartufo last night (a Saturday) at 5 and the place was very busy. It can get pretty noisy as the tables are pretty close together. Still, a very nice atmosphere and everyone was having a good time. I shared the Arugula salad with my friend and it had very little flavor. Then I had the Orecchiette, Sausage & Rapini, which was delicious and a decent sized portion. My friend was disappointed with her Lobster Ravioli in a pink vodka sauce. It was a bit heavy on the tomato base and was more of a typical red sauce. All in all, though, a good experience with relatively easy street parking.

Service 10, Ambience 10, Staff 10, Dishes 10. If this were Star Search / American Idol / AGT. You all would be going to Hollywood. Tip the staff well, their service is impeccable.

I had such an incredible experience here! The ambience was absolutely beautiful — warm, inviting, and the perfect atmosphere for a special night out. The food was outstanding, every dish was flavorful and beautifully presented. The drinks were just as impressive — crafted perfectly and delicious. What truly made the night unforgettable was the magician they had performing. It added such a unique and magical touch to the evening and made the experience feel extra special. You can tell they really care about creating a memorable atmosphere for their guests. I can’t wait to come back!

Must Read Review! Unbelievable is the best word to describe the service my family received at dinner tonight. This was our third visit to Tartufo, but our first time being served by Hope—and she was the difference-maker. Her ability to create a genuine, authentic atmosphere transformed what would have been a typical night out. Into an unforgettable core memory for my family and me. It was reminiscent of that vacation feeling—the kind you don’t get in everyday life. Beyond her natural ability to connect with people, Hope demonstrated a deep understanding of the menu, offering thoughtful recommendations tailored to individual preferences. Her attentiveness in pacing each course should not go unrecognized—an often-overlooked detail. Having worked in a kitchen myself, I understand the chaos that unfolds behind the scenes. What may seem like a small component to an excellent dining experience in fact speaks volumes. Signaling a well-oiled back-of-house operation that coordinates seamlessly with the servers and runners. To top it all off, the food was outstanding—the quality you’d expect from the North End, without the headache of finding parking. As a foodie, I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates first-class service, exceptional food, and a welcoming atmosphere. Special thanks to Hope!

The atmosphere is so quaint and romantic. I loved the drinks! They have so many great options and the food was delicious. The servers were very attentive. I would visit this restaurant again. Its such a hidden gem!

Enrique & Alexia were amazing on the bar! My espresso martini was perfect and Enrique custom made my friend’s drink to her exact specifications which she loved! The vibes in here are great! We will be back for sure!

Hidden gem with lovely service —and the food is delish! Look forward to every visit. Favorites include crusty bread, minestrone soup, and the veal special was outstanding. I absolutely love the music—old romantic standards—wonderful ambiance, cozy!

Edited 9/4/2020: This place is revised to a 5!! Guys come support our local restaurants. Lunch here is cheaper than Cheesecake Factory and much better!! Tried grilled calamari today and it was awesome. Veal was great also. Come and enjoy old school ambience and music from magic 106!!! Great Italian in Newton! Staffs were old school and super nice. Had rocket salad to start. Followed with linguini with clams and shrimps. Salad was OK - too much dressing for me. Pasta was delicious. Lunch portion was on a small side. I gave it a 4, but I would go back to this place.

Food was very very good but the waiter that looked like the dude from Ratatouille was correcting pronunciation to an excessive extent

Good Italian food in Newton Center. The clam and shrimp scampi is the perfect size. The bread is very good. Lemon sorbet is large enough to share. The chicken parmigiana is enormous. Good service. The high top chairs are not comfortable so requested a regular table.

Tony was amazing. Food was high quality and delicious. Just wish we didn’t have to wait an extra half hour with a reservation. We will be back!

Came here on Valentines day. Limited menu. 20 dollar drinks. Thought the food was good, however we thought the waiter was a dud. No personality whatsoever. Was he a bot??! After the friendly girl we had the night before at a different spot this was noticable.

This is my second time in this place…. The first was good during the week and last experience was last night on Friday. The food is good and tasty … not really the true Italian experience…. But definitely enjoyable. The size of the plates are medium size and you definitely need an appetizer … entree only is not enough. The menu is not wide … focused more on pasta and risotto …. Limited choice of fish (don’t come here if you want to eat fish! - not because is bad but because has limited choice). Wine list is not huge but very well selected. Now the downside…. Why 3 stars only: extremely too loud…. You cannot hear the waiter talking with you. They host on the second floor big parties of screaming people and the acoustic is horrible. At one point I was almost ready to leave before the food arrives…. Definitely I didn’t enjoy my meal due to impolite and screaming people. If you wanna host big parties …. Please make a separate room.

Meh, scallops not seared properly. Chicken milanese not made correctly, got some attitude from the young manager.. Waiter was nice.. better options elsewhere.

Elegant restaurant, nice ambiance for chatting. Tiramisu was amazing. Entrees are pricey and chicken parmesan was too heavy with lots of melted mozarella and pasta with excessive tomato sauce. I would maybe come here again for dessert but not for entrees. Street parking options on the street.

The food in the restaurant was fine and not too salty. I was disappointed that the pasta was not homemade given the high price. The service on the other hand wasn't as friendly as it should have been given what they are charging here. The atmosphere in the restaurant didn't feel too welcoming. The tables were small and pretty close to each other. The service staff kept on hitting the chairs that we were sitting in order to get to other tables. Overall, I think it's an average place to eat, but not worth the amount that you will be paying.

Amazing food. Great quality and premium ingredients. The service is terrible though, the waiters take forever with the cocktails and giving you the minimal attention. We had to ask several times for plates as we were sharing food, also for parm cheese. When getting the check it took us 10 minutes to the waiter to acknowledge our request and once he brought it to the table I had to go to the bar area to proceed with the payment as we didn’t have any attention from the server. Not to say the place was empty. So sorry because indeed the chef has a great taste but they DO need to provide their personnel with basic training!

I ordered Chicken Picatta from Tartufo & I will never order the same dish again... it was absolutely flavorless! As I was just home & recovering from surgery, the easiest flavor enhanser, I could add was pecorino romano cheese, which helped, but I'd ordered a dish which shud have been bright & bring some acid to the equation. The dish, sent me, offered neither. I will never shut a restaurant down, on the basis of one experience, but I'm skeptical about anything that might follow.

Nice ambiance, OK food, mediocre service. Ordered juice without ice, was waiting for half an hour for it and got juice with ice in it anyway…. Cannoli crust was very hard, cannoli filling was strange… Food is overpriced….

Not a good experience unfortunately. We went for my birthday, it should have been a special occasion. The waiter was curt and unfriendly, they forgot our salads/first course, and they did not have tea or decaf coffee so a pregnant friend could only drink water. They were out of espresso martinis and chocolate cake both of which were on the menu. On the bill there was a $100 room charge, even though we did not rent a room. When I asked the manager- who was not present, I had to speak to them over the phone- I was told because we were doing a flower project there was an upcharge. However I provided the florist teacher, all the supplies and did all the clean up and this charge was never discussed ahead of time when I booked the table. The food was fabulous, but unfortunately the rest was not a great experience at all, which is not what I remember from Tartufo pre-Covid.

Really disappointed with my visit. I came here with my partner for our anniversary, and it wasn’t a pleasant time at all. We were seated immediately, however it took 10-15 minutes to be checked in on and to have our orders taken. When the food came out, it was heavily unseasoned; and partially cold. My biggest complaint is how unsanitary it was; the wine glasses were dirty, and they clearly hadn’t done the dishes before putting stuff out on tables. Make sure to keep an eye on your glass/tableware; I hope your visit is better than mine .

The food here is overpriced and underwhelming. There is a considerable lack of seasoning and, therefore, flavor. The dishes were also very oily. I would recommend not wasting your money here.

I booked on open table. Came on time was told they didn’t have a table even though I had booked a month ago. They sat us at the bar and we waited thirty minutes to get a table. No apologies genuinely nothing just acted like it was normal. I get it people screw up but just apologize or try to. They then sat us a table and we waited twenty minutes to be waited on. They sat four other tables and took their orders in that twenty minutes. I get that restaurants can be busy but this was genuinely awful service and quite rude. I have never felt so genuinely disrespected. After twenty minutes of waiting we left. Could not recommend this place less.

If I could give this place zero stars I would! They are incredibly rude and unhelpful! I had misplaced my wallet and called the restaurant and they were super not caring and dismissive not taking my name and number and abruptly hung up on me. When I called back they put me on hold then hung up again. I called a 3rd time and they said they had “looked” under the table and would call me if they found it. I decided just to double check myself and found it (luckily) at the same table I was at the night before on the chair that they could have seen if they lifted the edge of the linen. They don’t care about their customers and won’t help if you loose something! Absolutely terrible!!!

Server forgot our appetiser, blamed the kitchen. Food is very average with above average prices. I would avoid if you want to spend money wisely.
