This is a very homey place to eat. A lot of commotion going on so if you prefer somewhere quiet this is not the place for you. There OJ is freshly squeezed would def recommend. There kountry fried steak is always delicious. We were seated immediately after walking in. So virtually no wait time. Parking in the back just make sure you don’t park at the motel next to it. Overall great place with great workers.
One of the very few true American Restaurant serving great old American food plus other great tasting food. Prices are excellent! We thank all who work there in particular whoever makes this place run so efficiently even in this terrible economy under Joe Biden. The COOK knows his food, thank youuuuuuu. God blessings to each and every one who works here. 😊
Listen I have eaten breakfast food at a lot places but this has to be one of THE BEST breakfasts I have encountered. I had a Meat Lovers omelette and added peppers and onions and it was amazing. The biscuits had to be made from scratch! I even enjoyed the grits. I had to call my mother and told her one would assume the food was from the Deep South, a true country feeling. If I lived in LA I would come here more often. Let me be fair also. I thought our waitress was going to be a doozy because I asked her what would she recommend and she said I don’t know what you like to recommend anything. At first I was irritated but said well she doesn’t know me. Any way her service was beyond efficient and on point. Great total experience.
Love this place we have come here a handful of times and I never get disappointed with the food ! The people here are very friendly, the environment is clean and just all around nice
Been coming here for almost 8 years. Great customer service, the owners are very nice. The food is good at a very affordable price. it's a little outdated but we dont mind, we feel like we are always entering grandmas kitchen, and our family favorite when in the valley. Weekend Mornings can be busy, but very worth it.
The minute we walked in the door we were greeted by the most friendly lady who took us straight to a booth and the waiter was right there to ask for our drink order. I got the short stack and man were they delicious! My husband got the 2 pork chops with potatoes and biscuits and gravy which he said were great. The next time we are by here will definitely stop in.
Awesome best waiter! Seriously I never say this. Being a server and bartender I am very picky. I'll go back just for the service Food was good too. Fried mushrooms bomb. Blue cheese dressing excellent Patty melt good and pork chops with eggs Didn't like the breakfast potatoes though
Surprisingly great, it’s a diamond in the rough area of town! Amazing food, great service, pleasing & diverse atmosphere! Reason for choosing here, waiting on my truck to be ready next door! If there was anything else around I probably would have gone there instead, I’m very glad I didn’t walk further to anywhere else! Thank you Rich, & to the cooks! It was refreshing!
Been coming here for over 20 years for delicious comfort food. Breakfast, lunch or dinner always good. Prices are reasonable for food, fast & super friendly service. 3 generations strong & happy customers. Carol, Roberto & the rest of the staff make you feel welcomed the whole time you are there. Steak & eggs, corned beef hash & something about their sourdough toast. Yummy!
2019.06-08/1300: What nice people here! My friend took me here to pick-up a steak and eggs take away order for her son and I had the pleasure of meeting the staff and the owners - really feels like being back home in Virginia. Loved it and plan on dining here soon! They had delicious cinnamon buns, pies and other goodies on display, too. I heard their cornbread, even the liver and onions is delicious here, too. We will be back!
This an awesome place. Great prices. Generous portions. Fast service. I go here couple times a week as they have an extensive Menu. So there is always something you can eat depending on the time of the day and your mood.
Had the skirt steak with mash potatoes and vegetables. It was magnificent. The best part of our experience was the very candid and attentive crew who were always ready to take great care of our group. Fantastic spot, great food, and some of the best servers.
Home cooking, and breakfast for the hungry! I stop in everytime work brings me up this way. In summer I found building to be a little warm but they did bring a fan to move air for me. Entrance is at the corner-corner. A little tight walking past some plant and next to perpetual bike locked to area. I fresh coat of brighter paint ie a red door...might help! Have not had lunch but my standard hashbrowns, hash, biscuits and gravy are the best.
Pretty good service, food excellent, nice place to bring the family and have some good breakfast! Have been going there for a while now after the new management food and service are way better!
I have been coming to this place since Childhood. Still the same friendly environment. I love the biscuits and gravy. Killer food all round. You cannot go wrong with any of there items. And the Baked goods are huge in portion and flavor. Keep it up.
When I first moved to the valley I kept driving by Kountry Folks and I couldn't figure if I wanted to go in and try the food or not. But after reading several reviews about how the food was very delicious I ended up there one day and I don't regret my decision now the place of the restaurant looks a little city but don't let that take you back you have to try the food here it's really good and the service is great I'm not too sure who owns the restaurant but the lady in the front she must never have a day off she's always working
This place is usually super packed. Food is great, service is great!. You dont wait for a table very long. My family and I have always had great experiences coming here for breakfast. ***They're open for take out during these strange times as well!*** Support the restaurant and get some delicious food in the process! 🙏🏼🙌🏼
Reasonably prices, amazing food, friendly service I live it there. They know us when we come in.
Absolutely thrilled with my experience at this hidden gem of a breakfast spot in the valley! The pancakes were a delightfully fluffy and the corned beef hash was awesome. Country gravy and biscuits were so good. The ambiance was homely and they had cute Christmas decorations. Highly recommended!
Great food and GREAT service. If I could give it more than a five rating I would. Also, prices are very, very reasonable.Maria the owner does alot for veterans too.
Nice slow pace... old school style place with great food and sizable portions. I had sausage and eggs with some nice home style potatoes the wife had classic eggs benedict with identical potatoes. We were both pleased with the food and the great service (took home half our food for tomorrow) On the flip side I've also been here other times when it's been oh not so good. However they really seem to have stepped their game up and improved their service and overall quality. Really glad we gave it another try it had been a while since we've been here.
I brought my family in for breakfast and was greeted with nothing but smiles and excellent service. The atmosphere at Kountry Folks is truly "at home," which makes the time spent there much better. The meal was freshly prepared. I would classify myself as a recent regular patron, nice meals all around.
Came here recently with some family and was warmly welcomed by the staff. Food came fast and was enjoyable our server Maria was very sweet and attentive as was our other serve who I am not sure but I believe their name was Joaquin! Coffee and waffles were my faves
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Kountry Folks, and it exceeded all expectations. The service, particularly from Chris and Joaquin, was exceptional—attentive, friendly, and truly added to the overall experience. The corned beef hash was a standout, perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection, and the country gravy was a delightful complement. Kountry Folks is a gem for breakfast lovers, and I highly recommend it for a delicious meal and top-notch service. 5 stars without a doubt!
This restaurant had been in business for over 40 years, but shut down during the pandemic, and reopened with new management about a year ago. BUT, the same cook works there that worked for the old management. The prices are not as inexpensive as they used to be, but they serve huge portions of every dish they make. Good old home-style cooking, so it's not pricey at all, I guess. 😁 PS: They're open every day for breakfast and lunch. They close at 3:00 p.m.. They told me that it's because they're waiting for business to pick up before they decide to open for dinner.
Hidden home cooked gem, like stepping out time into a sweet southern diner. The food is hot fresh and fast. The service is above all excellence! The servers have been there for ages and they treat you like family every single time. I could give this place 10 stars, I love it so much.
An absolutely charming old fashioned diner. The waitress was a dear, and the food is delicious country fare with large portions. The ambiance is clean and comfortable, with old fashioned touches. The prices are surprisingly low, with lots of lunch and dinner specials. Do have a piece of their wonderful pie. A thoroughly enjoyable dining experience.
I love this place been coming for over 2 decades. Great prices decent sometimes great food. Only bad thing is its not in the best area. But other than that I love it. Servers are great. Fast and attentive.
Great family restaurant. My wife Loves the menudo. Friendly staff, good food.
We recently conducted a couple of lunch and learn seminars at this restaurant. I want to say that we had an excellent experience over the course of two days. They have a wide selection of tasty food and our service was absolutely perfect! Chris and Maria took very good care of us and all of our attendees. The entire staff made us and our guests feel like family. Thank you very much Chris, Maria and everyone at Kountry Folks for a wonderful dinning experience!
From what I understand, Kountry Folks has recently undergone new management and I am so thankful for it. When I stopped in for breakfast with my family I was met with nothing but smiles and great service. We were seated in no time and our server was incredibly kind and attentive to our table. The food was made fresh and we hardly had to wait at all. Compared to bigger chain establishments, Kountry Folks has a real 'at home' feel to it which makes the time spent there all that much better. I would consider myself a new regular customer and would recommend it to anyone who is not only a fan of breakfast, but good food overall.
The service here ALWAYS feels welcoming. Like home. The host/staff is amazing and friendly. The food is always delicious and enjoyable. We always find ourselves back here. This place deserves 5 stars not the lower 4.2 rating
Service and food is always great. I've made it a habit of going in for breakfast quite often and the staff are always on their A game. They are all very attentive and treat everyone as if they're family. 10/10 recommend!
Excellent service, friendly, and the food was delicious. I highly recommend it if you haven't been yet.
New management but same great food. The manager Christopher was so friendly and told us all about the history of the sale and of the folks that used to own it. So friendly. Everyone was great and the food was wonderful. I had the skirt steak special for breakfast and it was good.
Absolutely fabulous marinated skirt steak with grilled onions (mushrooms available but I do not eat them), over easy eggs, home fried potatoes, sour dough toast and iced coffee. The salt and pepper shakers are so cute with their little designs of vegetables. Highly recommend. Under new management. Go on by to support our locally owned businesses. The daily breakfast specials are reasonably priced and very delicious.
New management is awesome! Maria made sure our food was to our liking and made me feel at home. Everything was delicious and reasonably priced in my opinion. Looking forward to coming back as I am such a breakfast fanatic and this restaurant has a great menu and so much to choose from!
Kountry Folks Restaurant, Me & the family my daughter & granddaughter & my daughter's sister & her family & their brother's we had all came here for breakfast & we had been here a couple of times before so we came here to start out our day 🌞 & we met the nicest older 👵women who served us & she helps out here for a couple of hours a day taking orders & bringing drinks & doing whatever she can do so she was so "Awesome" & so very sweet & dear & we ❤ her! So like always it was a great breakfast & some very very good ☕ coffee!!! Plus the delicious food = yummy! yummy! 😋 Thank you to all of the team members & everyone else so keep up the good job! 💯%+ & ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐'s
I LOVE this neighborhood spot! They have out door seating now (due to Covid). Surprisingly there was a table open when we got there at 9:30am on a Sunday 😲 The food is always delicious here, they are consistent. The staff is friendly and they have good prices. They have a huge menu with daily specials.👍 I haven't tried anything I didn't like here. I recommend their Huevos Rancheros, Chorizo & Eggs, eggs benedict (actually any of their egg breakfasts), their BLT, their Soup & Salad combo (turkey sandwich & tuna sandwiches are delicious), Char-Broiled Chicken sandwich, Kountry Fried Steak, and definitely try their Cinnamon Roll French Toast 🤤
Been going here for at least 9 years. Very casual no frills kind of place. The best thing about this place is that they have great service and cheap prices. The food isn't really that great but it's cheap especially if you want to take out a large group and don't want to drop hundreds of dollars. I think the best items in the menu are the breakfast and lunch items. Some of the items I like personally are The Montecristo, BLT Sandwich and Breakfast Burrito. The coffee is really weak but the waiters are very good at refilling your cup often at least. Arrive early because this place can get very busy. Although I'm not always wild about the food here what keeps me coming back is the fact that the waiters are nice, very fast and the food is cheap.
Went today for Thanksgiving. It seemed like they were understaffed because it took about 10 minutes to get seated and restaurant wasn't full. Regardless we waited and once we got seated everything was amazing. Amazing quick service and the drink and food was brought out very fast. Our waiter was very friendly and super quick. He refilled our drink often as well. We tried the turkey dinner and it was amazing. The pumpkin pie was to die for delicious! It was my first time trying this place out and I highly recommend it.
We had a group of 11 high school friends. We called ahead to ask if could accommodate us and said yes. When we got to the restaurant tables were all ready. The food and service was great, many of my friends said that they were come back at a another time. Thank you for your great food and service, see you soon. Al Vasquez
I love this breakfast place. It is a bit of a whole on the wall and you have to make compromise on the devour because it is a bit outdated. However the food makes up for it. The prices are a bargain for the amount of delicious food. You most likely will take some home when you don't finish. Even though the sizes are big the taste is not compromised. The biscuits and gravy are supper fluffy and creamy. The sandwiches are crispy and well cooked. They even have options that are healthier if you feel a bit guilty for eating the biscuits. I recommend you give them a try because they are able to compete in terms of flavor with those big breakfast chains out there. And they will most likely beat the prizes and size portions for delicious breakfast.
Small nondescript mom and pop diner off sepulveda. Very awesome staff here though and lots of options on the menu. I missed breakfast so I got corned beef hash and eggs. The portions are worth the price, for sure. The biscuits were alright, the gravy was a little gritty. I did find some metal shaving in my corned beef which was odd. The homemade salsa they make is awesome though.
Been going here for years. Its a great, no frills, quick and easy, and tasty place. Even if its crowded you wont wait long for a table. The staff are friendly, the service is awesome and you wont wait all day to get your food. The fresh orange juice is quite memorable too. As far as breakfast joints go, its my go to place ...especially when hung over 👍.
It's been a few years if not decades since my last visit but I was feeling nostalgic and stopped for a bite. The restaurant was clean and staff was super nice! The food was solid, not greasy and hit the spot. The atmosphere was maybe only drawback. It's a bit dated inside, the occasional flies bugging you and the area isn't the greatest off Sepulveda N/O Roscoe. That would be my only gripe. It's a solid diner overall and would recommend it.
Customer service is great, food is good and has good flavor. Prices are really good for the portion of food, parking is tough since its a shared lot with a motel next door. Only bad thing I have seen is some of their utensils are not cleaned well. I have gotten forks and spoons with dried up food on them after being washed.
Im torn. The biscuits and gravy here is what h Keeps me coming. They're bomb. But the older white hair lady. I believe she is the manager has a bad attitude and from reading other comments it wasn't just once or twice she is apparently rude to many people. I took my friend to this family restaurant I love just to be treatment very rudely by her all because she asked if they had vegan mayo. I was embarrassed honestly. I wouldn't take another friend here for that kind of treatment....from the manager. I wonder if the owner is aware of her behaviour?
I have eaten at Kountry Folks Restaurant for at least sixteen years, starting when I lived in Van Nuys. It was the restaurant that you went to when you craved home cooking. The biscuits were big and fluffy, the bacon cooked just right and they had loads of options including grits. The place was nearly always crowded but you didn't mind waiting a bit. It was worth it. You got good value for your money and usually had to have a to-go bag. The waitstaff were long timers and the kitchen cooking was deliciously on point. You got to know the staff by name and they recognized you when you arrived. After the pandemic times and closures, things have changed, but unfortunately not for the best. The lines are gone, and the staffing is definitely smaller and overworked. You find yourself feeling badly about needing something else when you have your meal because it's so apparent that they are doing the best that they can. Dahlen is still there giving her best service as she has for many years. She no longer has the time to stop and just chat because you see her working in the kitchen as well as out on the floor with customers. She never complains, but just does her best to be everywhere all the time. Bless you Dahlen! 🙏🏼😇 The kitchen cooking has not been up to par in the last few visits. Biscuits aren't risen, they are flat, hard, and tasteless. The bacon is subpar quality, and the grits are so coarsely ground that they aren't fully cooked. Even blending in the eggs don't help. Many other dishes are not up to par either. The cups for tea and cocoa are so small now that you hardly get the flavor. The pricing has risen of course, as it must. I really don't want to give a bad review because I know what the restaurant has been, but it isn't what it used to be and I understand how little a profit margin there is in today's times. I've seen too many family restaurants close since the pandemic and it's so heartbreaking. I can only hope that Kountry Folks Restaurant can regain it's former standing.
Use to love this place but prices have doubled and quality of food is below average. You can’t charge that much money when your food is poor quality and you’re in a poor area. If you’re going to raise your prices, raise your food quality. Service is amazing. Everyone is super nice. Lots of easy parking. Love the restaurant interior, dated and retro of the late 70s. Spent nearly $80 on 2 meals. Not worth it. May come back and try a cheaper “special”. Hopefully they either raise quality or drop their prices.
This is just one of those older diner feels. Our server was very warm and attended to us very quickly. She knew the regulars, and that was nice to see. The food portions were big and were prepared fresh.
The service was slow. But maybe because it’s popular and busy. My steak and eggs was not so good. I’ve had better. I will definitely order something else next time. But overall, I like the place. I will come back. It’s my 3rd time here.
This place is very affordable and has decent breakfast(this is the best part) , however they REFUSE to answer the phone to place takeout order, they will click without answering. Also 1 out of the 2 times I went there the waitress (blonde lady) was rude. Not sure if it was because we looked young and she assumed we wouldn’t tip but we did anyway. The service here could use some work so I’ll be taking my business to another breakfast spot which sucks cause this place is so nearby!
First visit to this establishment. I ordered a chicken dinner accompanied by soup, vegetables, potatoes, and bread. The soup was superb in flavor. The chicken entree was good but dry around the edges. The mashed potatoes were homemade but bland and dry. I also asked the waitress for a small box in which to place the chicken in that I had not finished. She started talking to someone and I watched for several minutes as she fanned her face with the box, held it with her fingers inside the box, and after several minutes, handed it to a busboy to bring to me.
Been coming here with my family since I was a kid. Waiters have been working there for a long time and provide great speedy service. Food quality has declined after pandemic. Would not recommend. Only breakfast food is decent now.
I give them 2 stars only because the amount of food you get for the price is amazing. I orderd the Kountry Fried Steak with scrambled eggs, grits, and biscuits and gravy. I didn't enjoy any of it. The gravy was wayy too thick, the food was cold and it had no flavor. The servers were nice but seemed like they couldn't handle their tables. It took forever before they even came to take our order. Maybe I went on a bad day but I don't think I will return
Service was minimal and felt unpleasant and unwelcoming. Food was also bare minimum standard for a dine in experience, bland, and not all food items were warm. Waitress was not friendly. The coffee server/buss boy/ waiter was great and pleasant.
Can’t rate the specifics. Sadly new management hasn’t taken the time to even update their menu on their website. Basically anything we wanted to order isn’t on the menu anymore. Not a pleasant experience heading back from a camping trip and being excited to order breakfast when an all-day breakfast restaurant completely changed the menu and doesn’t have what you want, even though it’s listed on their website.
Today i took my daughter and grandson to eat there. Waitress must have been new, very slow. Waitress had to come back servals times to let us know that they were out of croissants, and other things so my daughter ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and it wasn’t cooked correctly. We specifically stated that my grandson does not eat meat and yet his plate came to the table sausage and bacon so i will not come back unless service snd food will be better. The totsl amount gor meal $85, it should’ve been better
OK, here's the thing; this place is strictly good for breakfast. The French Toast combination with two eggs, two sausages and two bacon strips USED to be a good deal for $8.99, HOWEVER.... they just raised this price to $16.99.....unbelievable....last time we're going there..... Coffee ☕ is very marginal.... restaurant is extremely dated and not worth a return visit......
Prices are fair. Good broad American food menu. Today, we got very tough fried chicken. Pasta was ok. Green salad was good. Service nice, but slow, due to short staffing. Used to be better.
Not only was there a wait but the staff seemed overwhelmed and frazzled-constantly yelling back and forth w kitchen. I was told to go to table in the dining room. No one handed me a menu or provided the usual courtesies. After several minutes, I tried to flag down some staff members to order. All ignored me and one elderly man in black intentionally took the order of the table in front. He was extremely courteous and while taking their order, pointed at me and mentioned something about how he gets confused when people like me “yell” at him. He'd never interacted w/ me and avoided my table for the rest of the time. I did not and I doubt my small voice would rise above the fray. I got up and demanded to speak to a manager. A younger man who said he was the manager eventually took my order. To ignore a customer then insult her in front of other customers is provocative and unprofessional behavior that should get him fired. That must be the Sunday Special they were referencing. Parking here also sucks as it shares space w a motel. Food’s decent for the price and it’s open at odd hours. Hence the extra star! Otherwise, it' be negative.
Good morning. Well I never been to this part of California. My brother n I sat down expecting friendly service and the waitress was rude from the start and all she did was bring us our coffee. The.atmosphere is cozy, because of the 1st impression my brother and I left without taking a sip of coffee. More than likely I'll never I'll never have to pass though this part of California. 😞Unfortunately I won't be back.
This is my first time going with my family and it was just horrible. The customer service is bad they were rushing everything for no reason there wasn't a lot of customers. They take your order and doesn't ask if that's all they just assumed that's it, we had kids with us and not sure if they even had kids menu. It was a waste of money because no one finished the food it was too nasty we literally sprinted out of here. Also there were fly inside and there was this musty smell. I don't recommend this place at all unless you want to get sick.
Today, Saturday, July 8, 2023, I went to this restaurant with a new administration, without a doubt, the kountry folks definitely lost their glory. I have been a customer of this place for more than 15 years and this new management has been a total disappointment. I am a food critic and the kontry folks, thanks to my review in the past administration, had resumed its glory but I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS new administration EVEN. They take more than 40 minutes to serve the food, excessively simple bad taste, mediocre portions, they do not serve what you order, excessively high prices. I definitely give it no star. DO NOT GO!!!
Looked like a cute family place. Upon entry one waiting staff member was extremely rude. Sodas were flat and food was mediocre . I ordered an omelet and had egg shells in it. When mentioning it to the wait staff she again was rude and stated that it's very rare and she highly doubted I had egg shells in my food. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Go somewhere where else!
Kountry folks used to be one of my favorite places to eat at until recently .the owner makes up random prices and we feel compelled to pay ,it's not a good feeling to get a bill for a certain price and once at the register told to pay a higher price for add ons that should have been told how much they were when the order was placed this hasn't happened once but several times ,charged $10 for a side salad and a waffle when we were told they were replacement items ,not cool kountry folks not coming back bad service. She had an attitude with me
Let me start by saying this place is located in a seedy part of town .which isn't always bad but....it's been awhile since I've experienced racism because of my Mexican descent. But the crusty old white lady was rude rude rude...I think she needed a hug .She was yelling at customers coming in and kinda threw our food at us and never checked on us at all to ask if we needed anything...pretty sure she hates her job. The one bright light was the food was cheap and it was good but service horrible.You.make the call if you want to eat here....
It has the wonderful charm of an old school diner, counter seats and booths. The country fried steak was a hit, but the machaca and egg were awful (all onions, no meat). $4 coffee could peel paint off the wall. They tack on some random service fee, probably for paying with a credit card. Ridiculous.
DO NOT GO HERE, extremely rude service and horrible food. My daughter got a milk and the inside of the cup had old dirty leftover from a shake or something similar, they have me a new one in a styrofoam cup which was fine. I ordered a club sandwich and upon my first bite there was wood in it. I spoke to an older lady that said she was the manager and said oh well, it happens sometimes. But even a sorry it let me replace it. She became irate and a cook ran out from the back to grab her, telling her to stop. Sure got in my face and nearly hit me. I had to go off on her and then left immediately for my safety. Unbelievable how she acted. She would not give me her information but I was told by the cook that her name is DeeDee.
The works in there where acussing me of leaving without paying saying to watch me and they can't cook potatoes there terrible. Smile in my face and walked off talking shit I wouldn't go there but it's in the area
There is new ownership of this restaurant and sadly it’s not a big improvement FOOD - NOTHING SPECIAL, NOT WORTH PRICE The food is mid and before at least the prices were reasonable for the quality of food, but now the quality is worse and the price is higher. I ordered a BLT and before the ingredients were fresh, now the is too much lettuce and it tastes like the one from the McDonald’s McChicken, nasty and yellow. The improvements are the soda machine and coffee. SERVICE - LACK OF SERVICE The service is AWFUL! Maria was our waitress and we had to ask the busboy (Joaquín who is the best part if this restaurant, he really is saving this place, deserves a raise!) who our waitress is. She took forever to take our order, and then got it wrong. We told her about it and she “no they fixed it” and did nothing to resolve what was wrong. We also ordered the Huevos Rancheros and requested the tortilla to be fried and it came not fried. We also asked for the toast dry, and it came with butter all smeared. We couldn’t even ask for her to fix because she only took our order and returned once by the end of the meal when we finished. Joaquin as a busboy took care of all if our refills for soda and coffee, and he always is in a great mood. 👍 he is amazing and always working hard! ATMOSPHERE - SCREAMING TO COMMUNICATE, IMPROVEMENT IN DECOR It’s alright to have for breakfast here, you can have an enjoyable cup of coffee here. Unfortunately, you hear the employees screaming across the restaurant as their way of communication, which is distracting. The decor was too busy before and they removed all the excess fake plants and it’s not as busy visually as before.
