This neighboring folks' favorite place is always comfy, snappy, relaxed, smily and easy going laid back space where we enjoy with the season's culinary menus made from the local products and tasty coffee and the biscuits for my buddy Golden Retriever!
I work at the elementary school up the road from them and I always order a lot of food from them on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The coffee is warm (or cold if you want it iced), the food is fresh, and the staff are very friendly! I wish there was a Hayfields in Poughkeepsie, NY where I'm from! This will always be one of my favorite little markets in Westchester County. :)
Amazing place for a quick bite. You never know what you will see here.... from classic cars to people bringing a pig as a pet. A must stop if in North Salem NY area. Quirky but awesome
Chill market - cafe with the occasional car show. Good spot for family fun activities, events, drinks and food . Fresh flowers for days
FIVE STARS! ***** By definition espresso is a 1.5 ounce beverage that is prepared from 7-9 grams of coffee, of which clear, HOT water of about 195(F) degrees has been forced or pressurized through fine quality grinds, the brewing "flow" time approximately a mere 22-28 seconds. While brewing, the flow of a good espresso will appear to have the viscosity of warm honey and the resulting beverage will exhibit a thick dark goldish and tan cream foam ("crema") topping. My definition is all of the above....and, enjoying the beauty of garden plants, being in good company, having a pastry or muffin, and taking home a generous cut of fresh carrot cake w/cream cheese frosting for a late night snack. Hayfields offers me this little bit of peace every Sunday morning, and is very dog friendly for myself and “Jack”- the Jack Russell- (yeah, I know, real original). I enjoy the attentive staff and ever-changing displays and can’t wait for the kitchen to open to stay for lunch! Mark
Fun litle cafe/farmers market. We always love to stop here during our bike rides with the club. On occassion you may see the coolest collection of classic cars in the parkinglot.
I just had my bridal shower there today & I just wanted to thank everyone! It was so hot & everyone was truly amazing. Thank you all for such a special day!
Great coffee, food and atmosphere with outdoor seating. Service is OK, not super experienced but hey, it's a chill, walk-up farmstand/deli so enjoy it for what it is. They have cool knick knacks for sale in back - a nice diversion for the wife while you check out the cool cars that often roll up on weekend mornings.
Great sandwiches and coffee but the real selling point is the indoor decor/shop and the huge amount of outdoor seating, all in different little areas, some with firepits, some covered in flowers. It's truly unique.
We recently discovered this place, actually once the local Starbucks shut down! We absolutely love it and are so happy we stumbled upon hayfields. Amazing food! Super clean and great service! Thank you for staying open during this crisis, it makes our Sunday mornings a lot more exciting :)
1st weekend of the month they have an old school car show. This is one of the most unique places to visit and the food is incredible. Pet friendly (someone brings their pig) with free treats for dogs and horses!
I have been rescuing and rehabilitating Pitbull's for 30 years. I am also a Fireman and a small business owner. My wife has been getting coffee and other goodies from Hayfields several times a week for a couple of years now. I've never been. I had the absolute pleasure of stopping in on Thursday and had to ask for owner Renea Dayton. Unbeknownst to her she was doing me a small favor of supporting my local business. It was long overdue to thank her and it was met with such kindness, I can see why this place will be here another 30 years. Not only the gorgeous setup and ambience that is so welcoming couple with fair pricing, but the owner herself was as down to earth and friendly as could be. Thank you Hayfields for being so attractive on so many points and I wish you YEARS of continued success. - Jesse Kaplan
Visited there the other day. The place is easy to get to just a short distance over the border from Danbury. The service was outstanding. They were knowledgeable and helpful. They have a wide variety of plants and decorative items. There is a nice pantry stocked with some gourmet items and a selection of fresh produce. The locally made marinara sauce is wonderful. At present they serve coffee and ice cream. The bakery selection is also quite tasty. I understand the cafe will open by the end of April. I will definitely return to check it out. Spent Sunday morning here for coffee and cars. They had a great turn out of Ferraris, Mercedes, Porches, and other show cars. The cafe is now open and the food is very good. I had a pulled pork panini that was nicely spiced with just enough sauce to keep it moist without getting sloppy. Joe
Comfy cozy spot. My Sunday go too. Yummy latte, quiet and warm during winter! I love to go here, for a bite or just to chat! My dad used to take me as a girl and we’d get our Christmas tree too! Love hayfields! Don’t change a thing!
Ice coffee was one of the best we’ve ever had. Slightly heavy on the ice but the taste made up for it. Got off exit 8 on 684 due to traffic and came across this place. We recommend.
Love it here! Warm and cozy atmosphere Amazing florist on site Amazing lattes and good food
What a surprise after visiting old Salem Farm, I stopped here for a little snack and found the food extraordinary and the marketplace cute too. So many fun things to buy
This place is lovely. Definitely worth a stop. Food was great, service was great, it's scenic, clean bathroom... one of my favorite places in a summer of coffee shops. Question to other reviewers: Are you able to post photos of this business? 🤔 I wasn't able to and am curious as to the reason.
Great local spot and a fan of auto enthusiasts especially on Sunday mornings.
I’ve passed by this restaurant a couple of times, and decided to stop in. I’m so glad I did! I was warmly greeted, and was happily impressed with the atmosphere. It’s a great place to have a coffee and breakfast with friends, and the food was supurb!
Yummy coffee house. Good food and pastries. Nice seating and lots of flowers to see. Very nice ambience. We will be going back for sure. The drive was also nice. They provide you some free carrots so you can feed the horses around there.
A wonderful laod back establishment and an amazing country casual ambiance. Rustic decor, indoor and outdoor seating, fire pit, floral arrangements, and a variety of novelties. Amazing healthy home cooked food choices and refreshments. Serving up breakfast, brunch, or lunch uniquely delishish. The staff is delightful and friendly. If you haven't been, you might just want to experience something new and different. You are sure to be happily surprised!
A beautiful boutique shop selling flowers, decor, and food such as healthy sandwiches and salads. Charming seating area under grape vines. Friendly and helpful staff. The Greek Salad wrap was pretty good, and the chicken tacos were perfect for my 4-year old (they kept the sauce on the side).
Amazing place. Beautiful setting. Fire pits outside with snow all around make it such an awesome setting. Helpful staff with a smile on their faces make this place worth a visit or tow or three. A weekend morning coffee has a totally different meaning while here
Fine strong coffee, cappuccino, chai tea, etc, tasty soups, hearty salad options, sandwiches on rustic breads, love the breakfast burrito - you can't go wrong here. Fantastic casual setting, with beautiful outdoor seating options under arbors of greens, and fire pits. Also good place to pick up a gift, bouquets of flowers & a card if need be.
One word "Outstanding" When you arrive you will notice right away....this is not your average coffee shop! Truly unique, coffee ☕ plus a lot, lot more! Beautiful florist, unique books, pastry, great outside places to sit relax and have your breakfast or lunch! I will be going back again and again for sure!😊
Perfect, beautiful country market offering what you'd expect in farm fresh produce/products, but an equally amazing (if not better 🤔) deli counter & coffee bar. Outdoor picnic tables to eat at & if your dog or horse is as kind to the Hayfield's staff as they are to the customers, your animal buddy might even earn themselves a 🐶/🐎 treat! 😉 Delicious baked goods & dependably fresh flowers round out this CT countryside gem ✨
probably the most random review ever but there was a guy in a green and brown plaid button down with a gray (i think) t shirt underneath last week that made the legit best iced maple matcha latte & iced oat milk latter the world has ever seen. sir, i don’t know your name but you have a serious talent
Love this place. Had the best scone ever when I was there last. Usually I order the bagel and lox, which is always good quality and well priced, but the kitchen was closed for the day.
Everything about this place I could rave about. The sandwiches are so delicious and there are all these cozy spots to sit and savor them. Fire pits and blankets on benches just add to the charm. They have all these little interesting and artsy holiday gifts. Absolutely one of my favorite places to stop and enjoy a bite to eat.
Cute little cafe. Delicious fresh salads and pastries. Grab and go available. I had a caesar salad that was very fresh, crunchy, delicious and filling.
What an incredible pit stop. Glad I made the spur of the moment decision to stop by and grab a sandwich. Ended up staying a little longer than intended since their porch was so cozy. Incredible sandwich including fresh bread! Very nice pastries and little items that will certain hold your interest while waiting for the Sandwich. I end up buying a few items. Added to my list I will be back when in the area!
I was doing a delivery in the area and stopped in for lunch. The sandwich and pastries were delicious. The atmosphere is very relaxed and the people are really nice. Hopefully I’m in town again cause I’d definitely stop in again.
One of my absolute favorite places! I love hanging out and having a quick bite to eat or a latte. The vegetarian tacos are the best! They also have a great selection of gifts and trinkets as well.
* I was able to go to Hayfields for a Yelp event and this review is based off of that experience. * I had a really great time at Hayfields last weekend for a plant and sip! We learned about microgreens from tiny greens farm, planted our own microgreens, tasted some great food samples with microgreens incorporated, and had a few drinks! I really enjoyed learning about the health benefits of the microgreens and it seems very eco friendly as well which I also love! It was really fun to plant our own kit. We were able to choose from the broccoli rabe or rainbow radish. Luckily my bf could join this event as well so we got one of each to take home! As you'll see in my photos, they grow really well! I also really enjoyed learning about hayfields in general in that it had been an old gas station, turned farmers market, turned cafe/flower shop. The owner said they have vintage cars and coffee Saturdays that I think would be a fun stop! The food was also delicious. I'd definitely want to stop by hayfields another time to check out what more they have to offer!
I ordered for a client along with flowers from Amy's florist. I needed a simple Birthday gift to my 75-year-old client. Amy put together a beautiful bouquet and coordinated with the café to send some baked goods and soup along with the flowers. My client was extremely happy. Amy delivered within the timeframe she had communicated. She was very helpful. It was a bonus to have the café With fresh prepared food. I highly recommend them.
We went here for a quick coffee and brunch with the kids since we were off. We drove all the way to North Salem just to try this place, and it was worth it. I ordered the ribeye sandwich and hot chocolate, and both were really good. What I love most about this place is how cozy it feels. They also have a flower shop and a space in the back where you can sit and enjoy the weather when it’s nice. A great spot to relax—would definitely come back.
Upon a detour off the highway we saw this adorable cafe and stopped. We had 2 different chicken sandwiches that were outstanding ! I also had a yummy pumpkin latte. The mix of gifts and the florist make for a very cozy experience and its dog friendly 🥰
Attended Cars and Coffee this past Sunday as I have done many times over the years. I arrived a bit later than normal and had to park across the street. As always the service is great, the coffee is wonderful and the baked goods are the best. About 10:30 I walked over to my car, that was parked off the street where I have parked before, and where others park every week, and noticed a ticket on the windshield. There was a parked police car and a local Cop running from car to car giving out parking tickets for cars parked everywhere. I was given a ticket for parking in a no parking zone. There is no signage noting it is a no parking zone but I guess several of us were supposed to guess and find parking elsewhere. In the past North Salem police have harassed Cars and Coffee attendees by giving out tickets for not having front license plates. I will protest this ticket but the new Hayfield’s Owners need to build a relationship with the local police dept. I am a regular attendee and have also used 1600 Veloce, across the street, to service my car. Future attendees beware!!!!!
My family& I loved the atmosphere and the menu. We were hoping for pancakes or french toast, but they didn't offer those items on their menu. If those items were on the menu my son would have been happier instead of eating a chocolate chip cookie for breakfast.
Hayfields Cafe and Florist is a unique experience. This transformed gas station and garage is just beautiful. The food all looks great. I had their delicious French Press Panini - smoked ham with Brie, honey mustard, and tomato on sourdough bread. The pastries are also fabulous. In the warm months, the inside and outside blend seamlessly, with the large windowed garage doors opened to a patio seating area. Here you can sit at raised tables under a live grapevine "awning" with bunches of grapes hanging down. Or you can find a spot outside in the many garden "rooms" out back. There is also a lovely collection of flower arrangements and flower pots. The staff was friendly, and amazingly, effortlessly efficient. A real pleasure you shouldn't miss out on.
This is the cutest cafe!! Tons of outdoor seating with a secret garden kinda vibe. It's beautiful!! Inside is the same! Really cute! My iced chai was tasty and breakfast sandwich was good. Honestly the food was good but nothing special. It's all about the vibe! They have cute jewelry, cards, and candles for sale too. They even have free dog treats and carrots for horses. The cutest!!!! I love this place!!!
Hayfields, under new ownership, is a local gem that has truly flourished! Dion’s warm hospitality, exceptional attention to detail, and exciting plans for the future make this spot a standout. It’s my absolute go-to for an artisan coffee drink—their creations are consistently perfect. The pastries? Beyond fresh and utterly delicious. The curated selection of gifts is a joy to browse, making it easy to find something special, whether it’s a beautiful candle, a unique home gift, or one of the stunning floral arrangements by Amy’s Flowers, which shares the space. The ambiance is both inviting and inspiring—perfect for lunch or simply soaking in the beauty of this thoughtfully designed space with beautiful curated indoor and outdoor design. Hayfields is more than a café; it’s a haven for the community. Dion and his team have elevated it to a true treasure, and I can’t wait to see what’s next!
Hayfields Cafe and Florist is the cutest place! We stopped by while visiting from out of town and loved it. We enjoyed the fall decor outside, and the outdoor seating is very relaxing. We had our dog with us and loved that they are pet friendly outside. We ordered the chocolate croissant, cheddar chive scone, and caramel lattes. Everything was great! I definitely recommend Hayfields!
I looked up for pet friendly places in Hudson Valley and Hayfields came up in the search ……. I have been here a few times since then and we love the happy vibes of this beautiful coffee shop. The coffee, the food and the baked goods all are amazing. Got a s’mores brownie with iced coffee and they were both super delicious. It looks just as beautiful in spring as it does in spring and summer. If you are looking for a hang out place, brunch with your loved ones or a place to stop for a quick bite, put Hayfield on your list. They have a right combination of food, flower and coffee.
food + drink is so good and so convenient to the horse shows nearby! however i waited 30 minutes for a sandwich. otherwise amazing!
Nice little place at the corner of an intersection. Coffee bar and then some. Some issues with drink order mix-ups we had to wait to sort out, but nothing major. Good food and ambiance to chat and chew.
My boyfriend and I went here recently, the atmosphere is amazing, the chai was good. I didn’t give five stars because the carrot cake wasn’t our favorite. Employees are very friendly. Would recommend!!
Lovely spot. Plenty of outdoor seating. Nice coffees and lunch items. A bit pricey. An almost $9 latte. Delicious, but....
Beautiful place, florist a bit overpriced. It has great outside area, nice coffee and pastries, and very friendly staff. Was hoping the flowers would be less pricey for what they were but, perhaps, I will return to try one of the food options from the lunch menu and get a bouquet then !
I went on a drive up here to attend a Cars and Coffee gathering this past Sunday. The drive going up was nice and I actually wound up being the first one there. Eventually others came and it was a good time, also refreshing to see European and Japenese Cars outnumbered the typical classic car meets. The Coffee was really good and so were the chocolate chip muffins as well. May have been kosher be ause I saw a menorah around. Prices on somethings were a little high but what isn't these days. Overall if your in the area and it is open you should stop by.
Really pretty! Food is not great coffee is ok. Free carrots if you have a horse
Ever since the new owners , I no longer attend on Sunday. It’s sadly just not the same anymore.
Great little place in North Salem. Be careful though - we went there last weekend (October 1st), and there was car show in the parking lot. Because of that, we had to park along the road. Before I could blink, a North Salem police officer was writing me up a $75 ticket. I'd suggest steering clear of Hayfields when they are hosting a car show in their parking lot. Otherwise, it's a gem of a spot!
Tasty coffee and goodies, charming atmosphere. Only thing that could use some improvement is the overly laidback attitude of the staff. They don’t say “hi, I’ll be with you in a moment” if they’re busy. They just ignore you until they’re ready to wait on you. It’s a small point, but a more professional and service- oriented attitude would round out my review to 5 stars. Thanks.
There is always something missing in the Cafe, no bread or smoothie shaker broken or you'll get your meal cold after you asked 2 times that you would like it warmed up. Flowers from the florist are incredibly expensive for some reason. Never seen and heard about high prices like that. Better places to get a drink&food&flowers.
Great atmosphere and very clean. Only criticism was that the staff were not attentive and appeared to be even eating while on the clock while customers were waiting for their orders, not a good look for a business. Took a long time to get our orders.
Very mixed quality and service. A couple years ago, the food was great. Now, it is busy and the quality has definitely decreased. Service is mostly surly, at best. Cute items for sale. It is the hub for the equestrian set.
Cozy spot for weekend brunch. Food is OK and prices are reasonable. But if you like scrambled eggs and don't like fried eggs, you're going to get fried eggs anyway (I took away 1 star for that, because it has happened 3 times already. Good sized local car show on weekend during spring, summer and fall, although status unknown right now due to Covid-19.
I ordered the avocado toast and it wasn’t real avocado. It was a wet paste with onions and tomatoes mixed in on an extremely thin piece of toast. I was so disappointed. There was hardly anywhere to sit. There was one person on a laptop taking up a table for four. The owners’ family was sitting on the couches in the front of the store and the merchandise table was in the middle of the store where additional seating could be set up. The previous owners had created such a delicious and fresh menu. I hope the new owners make some changes to the quality of food and increase the number of tables.
Casual eatery for young folks in a rural area. People working on laptops. Service can be a bit abrupt. Everything is served in eco friendly containers whether you eat in or take it out.
Beautiful atmosphere, but food wasn’t great. Had gotten refrigerated wrap and iced coffee. The chicken wrap had a ton of pieces of cartilage and the lettuce was soggy. Was looking forward to crunch and a savory chicken wrap. Expensive for the quality. And the attitude from the cashier was very judgmental. No point of having a beautiful cafe to have crappy food and energy. 😫
Aye t̾e̾r̾p̾y̾fam we're stepping outside the frame a little with this one as I dnt frequent many cafe/florists but I will say this spot has its own kinda rizz... The layout is nice and open and outdoor seating is peaceful n upscale feeling... However this is far more a florist than anything else....the food and drinks feel like an afterthought. Pictured is the chai latte n I dnt really think I need to say much else besides posting that. They do have some nice floral arrangements though.
Sweet spot that fails on food Iced coffee tasted dirty and left soarness in my mouth. Had a few sips and left it. My guest noticed the same problem. Ordered a chicken sandwich and got and egg sandwich.
Sure, it was a busy Sunday morning, but they ran out of coffee. What?! And the young women working behind the counter, while polite and professional, were clearly stretched beyond their capabilities. There was a line of grumbling patrons waiting for their food, and the line blocked the path to the main entrance, causing even more disruption. When we finally got our food, it was clammy cold. It would've been tasty if it was warm.
Very pretty but the outside tables were dirty, including bird droppings and we both had chicken salad that had skin and gristle in it. Very disappointing.
I got avocado toast, it literally was guacamole. coffee was really light like milk. i haven’t been there and thought the food was good. yes the atmosphere is really pretty for a nice summer morning but food is expensive and not good.
This place has lost its integrity. It used to have the ambience that made it feel we’re walking into a special place. the barista was so rushed she failed to tell me when she with very little words and a false sense of confidence that she couldn’t do a raspberry matcha let alone she didn’t know what it was and gave me sub par basic flavored cafe syrup and not the typical raspberry preserves featured in a matcha strawberry or raspberry beverage. It tastes like cheap carnival candy all for $10. So sad I’ve recommended this place for years, taking it off my rec list for sure.
We had the most unexpected and upsetting experience at Hayfields. We stood at the counter for about 15 minutes, and no one came to take our order. The place was pretty empty, but we patiently waited. There was no one in front or behind us waiting. We were right in front of the counter. Then, we realized that the whole staff was intentionally ignoring us. My children were very confused. Now, whenever we drive by, they remember it by the racists' restaurant. I will never bring my children again to this restaurant.
You won't see me here again. Third time our food was just plain missed after ordering and PAYING. This past time we just left and won't be back. Everyone says "Why didn't you say something?". My point is I should not have to say anything. There were five people behind the counter, two being adults, and nobody said a word. But they looked at us over and over and over again. They new what was wrong but to me and my daughter it just seemed like nobody cared. Maybe it's because we drive a pickup and not a Lexus or Audi...
Was excited to return to Hayfields after I visited once before. This time I ordered ahead online and when we picked up our food, the order was wrong. The inside was flooded with people (sign outside saying 3 customers at a time) and I waited for someone’s attention and eventually got sick of waiting and left. Very dissatisfied.
Cool spot, but bad service. Went on a Sunday and spent about 30 mins here. We got there right before 4 (when the kitchen closed), but the teenaged cashier did not inform us. When we were ready to order a couple minutes after 4, she then told us that the kitchen was closed. We ended up sharing a premade chicken salad, which tasted good. Went back to get a croissant for the road. The cashier was incredibly slow and forgot everyone’s order. I waited 10 mins for her to process orders for 2 people. When we got to the front, I asked her whether a croissant was plain or not (as I only wanted a plain one). She told me that it was plain with nothing inside. Well… to my surprise it had ham inside when I took a bite. The place itself is nice. It’s a pretty spot with lots of plants and outdoor seating. The service however made it an appalling experience.
This place is ruined. Food menu all of sudden is awful. No eggs / breakfast after 11am? So I gotta drive all the way to Brewster or Cameron’s to get an egg sandwich at noon? And half the lunch stuff is gone too. What a disgrace .
If you like walking into a shop and being ignored by the staff, this is your place. The women working behind the counter clearly saw me in their peripheral vision yet didn’t bother to greet or ask if I needed help. Instead, they acted as if they were far too busy—(Doing NOTHING) while customers like me are standing there spending nearly $18 on a sandwich (with no side included). The attitude is disappointing and unwelcoming. A simple acknowledgment would go a long way. For that kind of price, I’d much rather head to Bobos, where you not only get your sandwich with a side but also a genuinely friendly atmosphere. As for the flowers, prepare for sticker shock—$15 a stem on average. The owner seems to carry herself like a “flower goddess,” but the pricing feels inflated and out of touch. Bottom line: Between the cold service and exorbitant prices, I won’t be returning.
North Salem is a quiet town until Sunday morning when hayfield welcomes cars that prize loudness over everything. I really don’t understand why this is allowed. Going deaf. I used to go there for lunch. Food is pricey but fine, interior is charming. But now I avoid. I can’t frequent a place that encourages such noise pollution.
It saddens me to write this review. This place used to feel so warm and welcoming, but that’s no longer the case. The woman behind the counter is rude and makes it seem like you’re inconveniencing her just by ordering. The atmosphere is still nice, but it feels a bit cold now and doesn’t have the same ambience or attention to detail it once had.
Pretentious, unfriendly service and atmosphere! Stopped in yesterday to grab some food to go and was completely ignored. Staff behind the counter did not acknowledge me as I waited patiently to pay. There was a customer in front of me with a larger order and no one said ‘hi, be right with you’, etc. I wouldn’t have really cared, but then a customer came in who was obviously a regular and they literally rang him up right in front of me even though I was next in line (and no one was behind me so no line and no confusion about who was next). I just left my food on the counter and walked out. I have been to Hayfields a few times before, but am not a regular… but am always a polite and tipping customer. No matter, everyone should be treated kindly and fairly. I have never left a negative review online before but felt compelled to do so as I have never experienced anything like that treatment before. Let Hayfields cater to their regulars, others should stay away!
