Opinions de FOB Kitchen Oakland
Where do I start! This place is amazing. The Chef makes her own spam and it is delicious and to die for! I usually order brunch..best hangover food ever. Just sayin’. 🤷♀️ The eggs are never runny but cooked sunny side up to perfection! I’ve had pork belly skins, sticky wings...love it all. The staff and customer service is what you would expect...fantastic, efficient and friendly. I love my FOB Kitchen!
If you are looking for traditional Filipino food with a gourmet flair, look no further than F.O.B. Kitchen. This was our first experience at this restaurant and were somewhat apprehensive as we ordered our food but all that was laid to rest as we started our food adventure with "Pulutan" (appetizers) of Lechon Kawali and Veggie Lumpia. Both fried just right. Then on to the "Ulam" (entrees) of Pork Adobo with the tenderest of pork meat and Tofu & Shroom Adobo with its fresh and rich taste. Then for our "Gulay" (veggies) of Pancit Sotanghon with its glass noodles and shredded assorted vegetable overlay. Everything was well prepared and presented to appeal to your taste buds as well as your eyes. Kudos to Chef Janice Dulce!
The food was really delicious and flavorful. Cocktails and non alcoholic drinks were really refreshing. The fish and squash dishes were excellent. Friendly service. Highly recommend.
Possibly the best restaurant I have encountered in my years in Oakland! Absolutely delicious on all counts. Flavourful milkfish, delicious fried chicken egg rice Silago, and that mango ice tea was the real hero! Scrumptious! Above all, great service and very kind staff. Highly recommend!
Service was a little slow to start but finished thru fine. Looked like the server was pretty much solo for the whole place, manager and maybe owner were just on a laptop at back booth? Apart from that, wonderful dinner. Whole fried fish was great, glass noodles fry was solid, friend's steak was cooked perfectly. House drinks came out quick and we're well balanced and delightful.
This is our “Go To…!” when we’re craving something familiar. There’s not that many Filipino restaurants in Oakland this should be the #1 place to consider for your cravings. We always order the bangus and it never disappoints. My 21 year old daughter says it’s her fave. 😍. Ask for extra vinegar and you’ll love how well seasoned the milkfish is and the egg on top of the garlic rice sums it up for the perfect meal. I’d forgotten my low carb diet 😩😂. We also added the torta talong and it eat evenly cooked. I wish they actually added one more. The plaza is a placed in a little area that you can easily miss and there’s too many streets intersecting the location. Parking is limited and once in a while there’s sketchy folks that linger in the lot. Take all your belongings inside. The atmosphere indoors is great and open. It’s clean and there’s always a smile or a welcoming greeting from the moment you walk through the door. Yes - 🙌🏽 I can’t wait to check out their other items on the menu. This is our 4th visit.
This is the first Filipino place I've been to where there were more people from other ethnicity, then there were Filipino's. Bravo, for crossing cultural boundaries and still making it work. Anthony Bourdain said that the problem with Filipino restaurants is that they don't stay true to the culture, they try to assimilate and the flavors gets lost, this was not the case at FOB. Came here for Sunday brunch and had the Sinigang, sour soup. I could tell they made it from tamarind pulp - it really brought out wonderful flavors of the soup, high five. The lechon kawali, pork belly, was on point. They didn't have a liver sauce, to go with it, but the vinegar sauce yummy. I can't wait to go back and try more of their offerings.
I definitely will be back! The customer service was AMAZING! There was not a time I had to look around, my server was always on it. The food was delicious! I wish I took pictures of all the food. The vibes, the hospitality everything 10/10 I highly recommend!!!! Sean made an amazing tasteful drink! I will be back!
First time diners for 2 ladies... We arrived promptly at 5 pm. and did not have an issue with getting a table w/o reservations. We had... * Singkamas Ensalada Jicama, mango, red cabbage, carrots, garlic peanuts, cilantro - delicious, crunchy, healthy * Lechon Kawali Thrice cooked pork belly, pickled red onion, thai chili, soy sauce, lemon - yummy, crunchy and meaty with good flavors and dipping sauce * Chicken Skins Togarashi, house pickles, hot sauce - very good, thin and crispy with the perfect crunch and accompaniment with the Singkamas Ensalada * Tortang Talong Eggplant omelet, tomato, scallion, soy - tasty fluffy, cooked perfectly, not oily * Diang na Bangus Boneless milkfish marinated in palm vinegar, garlic & spices, cherry tomato, scallions, cilantro, sawsawan and a side of rice - wonderfully fried, crispy and tasty with dipping sauce, but it is a small in size for $26 Overall, the food was delicious with beautiful presentation. Service was beyond amazing...everyone was welcoming, on point, and very attentive. This is elevated traditional and popular Filipino dishes that are presented with pretty garnishes in a beautiful venue. It's nice to see so many non-Filipino diners trying this wonderfully prepared food. You can see a lot of love and detail have been put into this establishment. I'll be back to try some of their other dishes that I was eyeing on the other tables!!
FOB Kitchen was DELICIOUS and FUN for a dinner with friends. The cocktails, dishes, and dessert were all colorful and delicious. Highly recommend the milk fish! A great place to share dishes because you’ll want to try everything. The Halo Halo dessert was fun to eat and share among four friends.
A very cool modern Filipino restaurant on Telegraph in Oakland,CA. It was unexpected that we found this place and came to try them during a weekday. There is private parking but very little spaces and share with other stores so we parked on the street; still you have to be lucky to find parking on the street too as it was full. The restaurant is not too huge. It had high ceilings and Ivy plants all over. Very green and earthy feel too. A big Filipino flag displayed. We did not make reservations but was able to be seated. It was filled after we got our meals. I believe we met the chef and owner. Very welcoming and friendly. All the staff were, too. We had their summer special watermelon slushie and I added vodka with it since I can't have it with tequila. It was very good! Also, had their mango lemonade and that was good! We ordered Bistig Silog which was prime rib and it came with garlic rice. Also, ordered Lechon kawali silog. Both were good but thought a little pricy or I guess when modernized, it goes with the price. For dessert, we had their Coconut mango sumon. So good!! Service was good. Food and drinks were good. Friendly folks. Nice place to hang out or meet up for friends. I think you would be able to arrange a small group of friends here. You should give them a try.
Our server Sia was A-MAZ-ING. So entertaining and very attentive. Tipping culture in the US is disgusting and I never tip but Sia was on a whole different level. You couldn't help but tip someone that amazing. Apart from her, the Filipino food was authentic and amazing. Only down side is was it being hot as fauck inside
This was amazing. The flavors were superb-- sweet, savory, spicy, and bright all at once. Shanghai lumpia (think egg rolls, but with a little cigar of meat) had a chili sauce that made me sooo happy. Lechon kawali-- thrice cooked pork belly was crackly-crisp while tender. And the Baby mocktail was so tasty! The waiter was also really nice, and we were pretty comfortable sitting outdoors. Parking was easy-- they have a lot.
I was so happy to finally eat here again! I had the bangus here last time and that was good. This time around, the adobo (just had the right amount of vinegar in it to make you want to keep shoving it in your pie hole). Burned my tongue on the lumpia, probably didnt help that I kept going. The pancit was spot on...reminded me of how my mom makes it. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. I just recommended it to myself again. lol
Went for a cute little Tuesday evening dinner with my wife. First impressions: WOW 😲 We already felt so welcome after seeing the pride flag in the door but all the plants inside really made it feel like home. We ordered some cocktails (the Golden State of Mind was delightful!) the pork adobo and the lechon kawali -- it was my first time trying Filipino food and i. Am. Hooked!! Ended the meal with some halo halo, which we highly recommend
So excited to finally try this place. The food was very good! We ordered the fried chicken, lechon kawali and longanisa hash. My fried chicken had the perfect amount of batter, not too thick. Everything we had was very tasty and it was the perfect amount of food. The halo halo I wish had more of the beans and jelly stuff but it was still good. Parking can be hard. It’s located in a little plaza with not much parking. We didn’t have to wait too long to be seated which was great because I was hungry lol. Our waitress was awesome. Always checking up on us. We ate outside because we had the dogs with us. But I did go inside to use the bathroom. Inside was very nice and looked clean. All in all, I would definitely come back to try the other stuff in the menu.
We are from Oregon and were invited here by friends. Wife and I arrived early, before our friends group, and were greeted by friendly staff who treated us like family and engaged us with conversation while we waited. FOB - Filipino Oakland Baes- ask about this when you go. Drinks were great, food fantastic, and the family friendly service was amazing. My favorite was the pork Adobo with a slight kick. If you are looking for a down to earth spot with a Michelen menu then give this spot a try. I promise you will not regret it. 5 Stars I will be back!
We got milkfish, tocino and longaniza and veg lumpia. The lumpia was ok, but everything else was great. Also really enjoyed the rice. The best highlight though was the pandan cold brew.
Great casual Filipino spot! Stopped in for a quick lunch and was seated and served quickly. Ordered a plate of Tocina and Crispy Pork belly and it was just the right amount of food, not too large and not too small. Also incredibly tasty without being too heavy. Great way to get all the food groups in one go. Would come again!
Good Filipino eats. Went with the Prix Fixe menu for 2 during Restaurant Week. My favorites were Fried Chicken and Pancit. I'll go back to try the brunch menu. Plenty of Vegan options.
Excellent Filipino food. I would say ‘tastes like home’ but in some ways it’s even better. The dishes are nicely balanced (meat + greens) and beautifully plated. Cocktails are superb.
I took my staff here for lunch. It was a top notch experience. Rosa, our server, was so amazing. She was very friendly, engaging and welcoming. The food was so flavorful and beautifully arranged on the plate. There were several vegetarian and gluten free options available. The atmosphere was a vibe, from the music to the decor. It's very obvious that a lot of thought and attention to detail went into creating this space!
This is a very cozy place with a fun vibe. Food was mostly great. Pork adobo was tender. But it was just ok. Chicken wings were great. Steak was good but the onions were super salty. Service was great!
Nestled in the heart of Oakland's Temescal district, FOB Kitchen is a gem that brings Filipino cuisine to life with a perfect blend of tradition and modern flair. Our recent visit was nothing short of a culinary adventure, and we left with our taste buds dancing in delight. We discovered FOB Kitchen while watching an episode of Cook's Country on YouTube, and as a family of 6, we drove all the way from the South Bay to explore their menu. and it was worth every mile. We started with the Pork Adobo paired with garlic fried rice, a classic dish that showcased tender pork simmered to perfection in a rich, tangy sauce. The garlic fried rice added a fragrant and savory touch, making it a comforting and satisfying combination. Next, we tried the Daing na Bangus, a beautifully marinated milkfish that was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Its bold flavors were complemented by the freshness of the accompanying sides. The Fried Chicken was a delightful surprise—crispy, juicy, and seasoned impeccably. It was a testament to how even the simplest dishes can shine when executed with care. The Lechon Kawali, a thrice-cooked pork belly, was a showstopper. Its crispy skin and succulent meat were paired with a tangy dipping sauce that elevated the dish to new heights. For a vegetarian option, the Torta ng Talong stole the spotlight. This eggplant omelet was hearty, flavorful, and a wonderful addition to the meal. We couldn’t resist indulging in not one, but two desserts. The Turon, with its caramelized banana and jackfruit wrapped in a crispy shell, was the perfect balance of sweetness and crunch. We also savored the Suman, a sticky rice delicacy topped with luscious slices of mango that added a refreshing and fruity twist—a true taste of tradition. Beyond the incredible food, FOB Kitchen offers a charming alfresco dining area. The quaint outdoor space adds to the restaurant's warm and inviting ambiance making it a great spot to enjoy a meal in the open air. The wait staff were friendly and attentive, adding a personal touch to our dining experience. Additionally , the restaurant has a small parking lot shared with other businesses, and street parking is available , making it relatively easy to visit. FOB Kitchen is warm and inviting, with friendly staff who make you feel right at home. Whether you're a fan of Filipino cuisine or new to its flavors, FOB Kitchen is a must-visit destination that promises a memorable dining experience-especially if you're willing to make the trek for food that truly captivates the soul.
The food was great, and the vibe was chill. I had the pork adobo and glass noodles as my main dishes, plus some spring rolls for appetizers. Their non-alcoholic drinks were also really refreshing. I’m definitely coming back to try more dishes!
Best Filipino restaurant I’ve been to in a long time! I’ve wanted to try this place ever since we moved to the East Bay, so when my wife and I had a chance for a night out we decided to give this spot a try. Located in a mini strip mall, the restaurant space is small, but intimate. The decor is nice and pleasant. The restaurant was understaffed, expecting it to be a quiet night, but it got busy quick. The staff were still on it and should be commended for the job they did! Super friendly and attentive and hustling! The food was awesome! We started with the Lechon Kawali, the Veggie Lumpia and the Ensalada Talong. The dishes were on point! The salad was really good! For our mains (Ulam), my wife ordered to Pancit Sotanghon and I ordered the Pork Adobo; yes, I went pork heavy, but it’s a Filipino restaurant, so I had to. The Pancit was good, but the Pork Adobo was awesome, especially with the garlic rice. The dish was so well prepared… To finish it off we shared the Sumon which transported me back to when I lived in the Philippines. Overall, this was a great spot which we’ll be frequenting often!
A newfound love for filipino food. We really loved the Tofu Adobo with Garlic Rice had a rich umami flavor paired with nice creamy sauce. The glass noodles I would skip. The deep fried pork is fine, sometimes feels overcooked to me. The interior is nice. I’d love to come back and try the drinks and their desserts.
FOB Kitchen was an experience. Between the delicious food and the funny, respectful and fun crew providing the best service we had an 10/10 experience. Great place for celebrating a special day but also some fun family time. Oh, the music playing in the background was on point!😁 Great place all around, we can't wait to go back soon.

Everything was so delicious and decent the adobo was surprisingly light and refreshing. The lumpia Shanghai was crispy and not oily which was nice. The camote had beautiful flavors and textures, and the garlic rice was exquisite. I appreciate the gluten free marking on the menu

Super delicious, and I love all the plants inside. The rice dish is the best that I’ve ever had. The fried chicken was also really good.
FOB Kitchen is a solid spot for fresh, flavorful Asian-inspired dishes. The noodle bowls and appetizers are tasty and well-seasoned, and the portions are generous. Service is friendly, though a bit slow when it’s busy. Prices are reasonable, and the casual, lively vibe makes it a great spot for a quick lunch or casual dinner.

Still finding its footing but a great place to eat! Coming at around 11:30 for Sunday brunch the wait was about 20 minutes with mostly larger Filipino groups ahead of us. It looked like online reservations are available via the Yelp app. The server was very kind and the menu is extremely accessible for anyone having Filipino food for the first time. We ordered lumpia shanghai (seemed almost deep fried but of course very tasty), lechon kawali (actually terrible for you but that means it was amazing delicious), arroz caldo (my favorite, extremely comforting with perfect flavors and texture), and longanisa hash (pretty good, could have used a side of rice). I also ordered the pandan iced coffee which was delicious. There was also a small dessert menu but we were absolutely stuffed so we didn't take a look. The prices are fairly moderate but about what you'd expect for a trendy Bay Area restaurant. All the food was really pretty tasty. They seem to season it to the mild side which I think is great if you are not into sharp Filipino flavors -- there is banana ketchup and house chili vinegar available on the table which make the flavors effing spot on. They did forget to bring out the lumpia and lechon which they realized after we finished, then apologized profusely about it and said they took the lumpia off the bill... which is not the case when the bill came. I can forgive them for that as they're still a very new restaurant. Currently (Dec 2018) their hours are an awkward Wed-Fri dinner only and Sat-Sun brunch only, so I can only imagine they're still trying to find their footing. This place is an amazing addition to Temescal and if it isn't already, will definitely be a Bay Area classic in the very near future!
Went with a friend and split the sticky wings, squash, bangus, and turon. I really enjoyed all of the food and would go back again. It's a relatively small restaurant and we went fairly early for dinner so was easy to get a table. When we were near finished tables began filling up. I also had their mezcal cocktail and it was super tasty. Bonus, Parking is available although it's a small lot.
I made it FOB and I enjoyed it. My friend came from Eureka, Ca to treat me to lunch. Shout out to food reviewer on utube, #eatlikeanapex thank you. The food was delicious, the way I thought it would be. Heard of restaurant last week and now I am here. The obeisance was delightful and staff was nice. The garlic rice light & fragrant. Pork crispy and soft. The menu has a variety of dishes. This tucked away Michelin ⭐️Restaurant is a treat, right here in Oakland. #keepitinmotion👑❤️⭐️
The lady and I hit this place up. I've never done Filipino cuisine before. I don't stray too much from cheeseburgers and nachos. But I's like "aiight". Plus, we saw it on "Bay Area Check Please" and had it as a place to check out. She had the pork adobo and plain rice. I tasted a chunk of pork with the gravy and rice. It was tasty. Nah'mean!?? For me, I got the fried chicken and a bowl of garlic rice. Chicken was crunchy. Juicy. Especially with the house made hot sauce. Of course was seasoned to a Filipino homies flavor palette. Not sure of the spices. But it was cool. I dug it. This was me expanding my food adventure. I give it a thumbs up. Also, I gotta add, the music was dope. Lotta Dilla, D'Angelo, Soulquarian vibe while we were there. If you know, you know.
We recently dined at FOB Kitchen, a Filipino restaurant located in Oakland's Temescal neighborhood, and overall, it was a flavorful experience. Dishes We Tried: * Shanghai Lumpia: Crispy, bite-sized spring rolls filled with a savory mix of pork and vegetables, paired with a tangy dipping sauce that elevated the dish. Personally, I think there should be more meat. The garlic rice was amazing!!! * Lechon Kawali: The deep-fried pork belly was perfectly crispy on the outside while tender and juicy on the inside. The dipping sauce added just the right tang to balance the richness. * Sticky Wings: Coated in a sweet and sticky glaze with a subtle kick of spice, these wings were indulgent and satisfying. * Sinigang Baboy: A comforting and flavorful tamarind-based pork soup, with tender pork pieces and vegetables. The balance of sour and savory was spot on. * Fried Chicken: While the seasoning was good and the exterior crispy, the chicken was unfortunately overly cooked, making it drier than we would have liked. * Turon (Dessert): The turon was a delightful way to end the meal. The crispy fried wrapper encased sweet caramelized banana and jackfruit and was served with creamy ube ice cream, which paired perfectly. Requested the Ube ice cream to be served on the side. Ambiance: FOB Kitchen offers a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere that reflects Filipino culture. The decor is colorful and thoughtfully designed, creating a warm and lively environment. Service: Unfortunately, the waitstaff were not very attentive, even when the restaurant was not busy. This detracted slightly from the overall experience. Overall Experience: FOB Kitchen delivers authentic and flavorful Filipino cuisine in a relaxed setting. The standout dishes like the Lechon Kawali, Sinigang Baboy, and the turon dessert made the meal memorable. Despite the inattentive service and the overly cooked fried chicken, the kitchen's speed and precision stood out. We recommend FOB Kitchen for those seeking a genuine Filipino dining experience in Oakland--just don't expect exceptional service.
For fantastic Filipino food in Oakland, you have to check out FOB Kitchen. They offer a great blend of traditional dishes and modern takes, all while staying true to the cuisine's roots. Whatever you do, don't leave without trying their Halo-Halo!
This restaurant caters Filipino style dishes and has comfortable indoor and outdoor seating. The staff were all friendly and the food was good, but I think could be better. Having lived in various parts of Asia mixed salad greens are almost never a part of any dish, and I felt it was out of place. The garlic rice was pretty good, and I would have liked some fried onions on top of it. The place was popular and had an energetic vibe.

This place is not condiment friendly! We went there to try out their ORW24 menu, and the dishes were nicely presented and quite refreshing with sweet sour flavors. However, my date later was overwhelmed by the same citrusy taste in all dishes. So I asked them for salt or soy sauce, and they had none, not even black pepper. The only condiment they offered was their house-made hot sauce, which again was sour. Also, the ORW24 menu was deceiving. It offered a variety of dishes to choose from. It required minimum of two to participate but did not allow each to pick different dishes to share. In other words, it's a set dinner for two. I wish it'd say so in the website. For Filipino cuisine, I think I've had much better dishes elsewhere. Shanghai Lumpia and milkfish were descent like everywhere else. Loved the friendly staff there.
I was prepared to love this place. However, there were a couple of dishes that really did not work. The beefstic it was so tough and stringy even chewing it multiple times did not make it any better. Given it's $32 price point it definitely was not worth it. The cocktail we ordered was extremely watery and definitely not worth the price either. I did however, enjoy the Lumpia, salad option,Pancit and the attentive staff. I'd probably go again but really limit what I purchase.
FOB Kitchen has a warm and friendly atmosphere. The servers were nice and attentive, and the space itself felt very homey. I appreciate that it offers a different take on Filipino food, though I noticed a few things as a Filipino diner trying out the menu: 1. Salad with the silogs – The salad was far too vinegary, lacking the small touch of sweetness that usually balances out Filipino flavors. It was hard to finish and a bit overwhelming at the start of the meal. A hint of sweetness would give it more harmony against the savory and tangy elements of the proteins and dipping sauces. 2. Tortang talong – Perfect execution. The eggplant was grilled first, then turned into an omelet—authentic and flavorful. 3. Garlic fried rice – Solid and satisfying. 4. Bangus in the Bangsilog – Huge portion, tasty, and cooked well. My coworkers noted that it leaned toward a “healthier” version of Filipino food, without the strong MSG-forward flavors (like Magic Sarap) that many Filipinos are used to. 5. Bistek – This was a letdown. While the picanha cut was tender, the sauce didn’t resemble the traditional Bistek Tagalog profile—it seemed to lack soy sauce depth, and perhaps sweetness. It leaned more fusion-style, catering to an American palate rather than being true to the dish’s origins. Overall, FOB Kitchen offers a healthier, American-leaning take on Filipino food. Not quite for those seeking the full savory, garlicky, umami-with-sweetness flavor profile of true Filipino cuisine. Would I come back with my husband and mom? Honestly, no—there are other Filipino restaurants that capture the flavors we grew up enjoying.
Pork adobo and eggplant salad was great. Crispy pork belly had a really sticky skin that was really strange like a carmel apple. FOB drink was alright.

A certain magazine featured this restaurant supposedly one of the best Filipino restaurant in the US, unfortunately it wasn't the best. There's so many better Filipino restaurant in the Bay Area that deserves the spot. The service was good and the food was just ok. Nothing special. My mom and auntie said that they are not going back. It wasn't that bad at all , it's just not worth to be included in US best Filipino restaurant whatsoever
