The food is very delicious, especially the fried crab.
Love this place. The owner is great. She is one of the main servers. She remembers names and she smiles! Sometimes we dont go for months and she'll still remember. The food is just as great as the hospitality.
One of my favorite Chinese restaurants near Holy Names University. Lisa is probably the best server I've ever encountered in any Chinese restaurant. She's very understanding and kind. I've been coming to this restaurant since 1990s. Kung Pao chicken over rice and spicy beef tendon with broccoli over rice were my daily "bento" for over 9 years. Many dishes are delectable. I also like their steamed cat fish and imperial ribs.
I enjoyed the crab legs except I didn't like the batter they were fried in. Next time I'll let them know. And the shrimp fried rice was delicious.
This place is amazing. The workers are all lovely and are all welcoming. I always get the salt and pepper pork chops. Would recommend 10/10.
Fried Crab All Season. One of my favorite restaurants that moved from China town but I found them and can’t get enough . Magnolia beef is wonderful
Been going here since I was 8yrs old. The food has always been excellent. Try the dry fry ribs you won't regret it.
The dishes have alot of food, and the mango lían beef was good, but very spicy and delicious
Celebrated my birthday dinner here because they serve Delicious food and they are just the best... Very attentive and friendly.
tell others to meet you there great eating experience they have unique style of food preparation without sacrificing ethnic chinese flavors.
Great tasteful food. Full of delicous flavors. You can tell the food is fresh. Vegitarian friendly.
Good Cantonese style comfort food. It’s a small place. The owners are helpful and friendly.
Omg so good!!! We took a chance on a new place and finally we were not disappointed!! Just take my money!!
Best best best, no kidding, this place is amazing, was skeptical at first but after me and my family had lunch, i wish this place was next to my house...
Friendly, clean, good food. Nice Laurel district Chinese restaurant.
The best chinese food in town! Love their salt and pepper crab👌👌
Best Cantonese comfort food for our family for over 20 years!
Excellent food service and when doing takeout. Excellent delivery service.
It's a great haunt from my old neighborhood spent a lot of time there
This is my families favorite chinese restaurant in Oakland. The food is authentic and delicious. We usually eat in, but the place is dated and simple. So if the ambiance isnt important, this is the local place in this part of Oakland to come. I dont eat pork or beef, so we mostly order veggie or chicken dishes. Always, egg fu yong, veggie mu shu, broccoli beef(broccoli is bright green, yet fully cooked), chicken chow mein, and for hubby mongolian beef. This is plenty for 3 adults, 2 kids, with enough leftovers for another day. Hubby traded for sweet & and sour shrimp, this time. It looked ok, but not impressive (breaded, which I dont eat). My son likes the spicy sweet sauced chicken, or kung pao chicken. The fortune cookies are crisp, and the waitress always gives the kids candy. Parking on MacArthur is a pain, but there is usually parking around the corner on the street, by the church on 38th.
I needed wholesome food fast, so I ordered take-out. I give it a 5 for taste and the quality of food and 5 for the service. They made it fresh and fast and the lady was really nice when I came to pay. But I give it a 4 for atmosphere because it was only 8pm the place closed at 9:30 and the place was completely empty. I was shocked because the pictures on the window look amazing and I thought it would be packed. It would be a nice place to have a big family dinner. I'll be back to try more.
Its my birthday today and they called me and wished me a happy birthday. And made my favorite dishes for me to come get with a extra large sprite. They really care for their customers and nobody else can beat their food
Really low key place, nothing fancy but the food is good!
Really solid Chinese food. I've now gotten the won ton soup, chow mein, and Mongolian beef a few times. Bottom line is this is my new go-to Chinese spot. The service has been prompt and friendly (I've always got take away). The location is bare bones but clean. Chicken Chow Mein was a large portion, great flavor, and the chicken was cooked perfectly (thin cut, tender, tasty; most places overcook). I do wish the noodles were more al dente, they were a bit soft for me. There could also be more chicken. Mongolian beef was my favorite, really tasty, pretty classic brown Mongolian sauce with Sichuan pepper. The won ton was solid too, I can't find better in the immediate area. Broth was good. So many won tons! They were good, shrimp and (I think) ground pork inside. Shrimp were tender (another thing many places overcook). Pork filling was kinda bland but given other flavors it's fine. Other stuff in there: BBQ pork, chicken, squid, shrimp, maybe some beef, some greens .... But just a few pieces of each.
This place is delicious. I’ve had almost the entire menu and it’s always fresh and tasty. If you’re wondering if this place is good let me put your mind at ease with a huge YES it is.😀
The food was great, but one of the staff needs to be a bit more friendly with the customers she did not make you feel welcomed at all but best food be back and I will give it 10 out of 10
So today 4/10/18 was my first time trying this restaurant. When I first walked in I was greeted by a very nice sincere man, I think he was the cook and then I was greeted by a very nice sincere woman who took my order. After taking my to go order witch was shrimp fried rice, pork egg foo yung and wor Wong tong soup the same woman did something that really touched my heart, it was a very simple act but she brought me a large glass of hot tea. To some that might not be a big deal but it reminded me of my younger days going to San Francisco China Town to eat with my parents (RIP MOM & DAD, I MISS YOU) tea was always part of our dinning experience. OK, now about the food, I was not disappointed, really good food. The rice had an abundance of shrimp, the soup and egg foo yung was very flavorful & the price was more than reasonable.
Their Won Ton Soup! The won tons are always fresh tasting and the wrappers are cooked just right, not mushy like most places. Their lemon chicken is awesome too! Definitely a must try place!

There Food is really good. Very nice and clean inside the Restrant. Sorry no delivery only pick up order only. THE PRICE reasonable low $$. They charge a minute of $10 DOLLAR FOR DEBT CARD OR CREDIT CARD TO.
Salt and pepper wings are so tasty. Combo fried rice is pretty good too. Glad you are here in the neighborhood.
Ordered To Go. I ordered 3 dishes and they gave Soo much food. My new favorite for Chinese food.
Good food, we have only been doing takeout because of the pandemic. Good value for the price.
If you can get past the outdated DecourAnd a few other things to food on the other hand was pretty good
Just what I needed a fresh hot broth soup and they delivered thank you so much yummy😋
Nice selection of menu items for a small restaurant. Fresh fish in the tank to choose from; catfish and another kind I don't know the name of. No MSG on their food! Efficient and welcoming wait staff. Kitchen and bathroom were clean. Have now eaten here twice and not disappointed.
Good basic Chinese food. Home style. Good service. Ordered all vegetarian - limited options, but they were happy to customize some meat dishes to vegetarian.
Very good just sometimes hard to park. Miss the MSG lol
they raised the prices AGAIN! NOT $27 FOR FRIED RICE AND CHOW MEIN
I did not like the food will not go back. I do like the t-shop next door. Check out the items in their window.
People were very friendly, they or out of the fried crab so they suggested the lobster the lobster was horrible couldn't taste any meat because it was so dry.
The owners of this moved and I found em on accident they changed the name to happy garden in front of the planet fitness thank me later
Worst food I ever had. I don't know how they got 4 stars.
We ordered from Fountain Garden for the first time last night because our usual favorite neighborhood Chinese restaurant was closed. It was a bad experience from start to finish. We called ahead to order and the woman on the phone said it would be about 20 minutes. No problem, we live within walking distance. My husband got there 25 minutes later and they hadn’t even put our order in, so he had to wait. We got the food home and I could tell the fried rice wasn’t as good as our usual place. There were barely any shrimp in the fried rice and the one I did eat tasted… off. We liked the sauce from the broccoli beef, the fresh ginger was nice, but overall it was underwhelming. Not soon after, I started to feel pretty sick and here we are the next day, suffering from food poisoning. Lesson learned- I will not to stray from our usual spot.
Ordered hot and sour soup, boy was it hot and sour, chicken chow mein, sweet and sour pork and lemon chicken didn’t like anything chicken pieces were hard dry, same for the pork I will look for somewhere else to have Chinese food on 11/4/2025
I wanted 2 orders of shrimp fried rice and a order of mixed veggies. The old lady I guess can't understand English that well and thought I only said 2 orders of shrimp fried rice with extra veggies..... For the 2 shrimp fried rice plates I was charged $31.00 wow 😳 I didn't get my mixed veggies and was told I added more veggies for you. I'm thinking the veggies were inside wit the rice ..... For her more veggies meant more carrots and more green onions. Idk who eats a pile of green onions, let alone me being the type of person who really doesn't like carrots. I sent in my boyfriend to get my money back. Lady tried to act like she couldn't refund me my money acted like she didn't know how to give a refund, inspected the food to see if we touched it got mad like she was wanting to accuse us of already eating. Tried to have my boyfriend sign for my refund, I really don't think she should be taking orders. Have her just give out orders/drinks. Don't have her take orders. Don't have her accept payment for orders. I just don't see how anyone can mess up what I said. 2 orders of shrimp fried rice and a order of mixed veggies. Instead I got 5lbs of rice, a mountain of green onion nasty carrot shreds, and 3 shrimps in each container. Smh 🙄 they still haven't given me back my money. Absolutely ridiculous
We ate ,delicious. When we asked for the rest of our meal to go, half disappeared. I believe that the delivery person delivered it to someone else. We went back to complain and got attitude. We had trouble with them before. We just got through eating paying the bill, my sister dumped out her purse for a tip( 9$ worth) dimes, nickles , quarters and they didn't want it. Why you say ? Well my uncle likes to over tip!! They were looking for the same amount as our meal. Wow. I'll give them 2 more years and try again. I mean they do have the best war won ton soup.
I’ve been going here for years since they were in downtown Oakland and today when I went and got my fried crab and sat in there to eat I was very disappointed to see that it was roaches crawling on my table I will never go back again
My family has been coming here since before I was born, and it has always been my favorite restaurant- however, I just RECENTLY found out today that they've changed ownership, and I was incredibly disappointed with the food (that cost $60.00 btw). It was so salty and the soup was flavorless. I truly hope they fix up their recipes because it would be a shame to know that after 30+ years, we'd no longer visit this establishment.
As I write this review I am in the restaurant now. There is a lack of organization and the two women who take each customers orders always have attitudes and constantly mess up my orders. I have looked past their disrespect and gave them fair chances. Racial profiling is definetly the case because I'm always served last and constant glares are in my direction. My advice to anyone is to always check your food before you leave the restaurant and as soon as one feels any discrimination as for a refund and walk out.
