We got a couple of things here and they were all amazing. All their ramen the best version of that ramen we’ve had so far. We got the Wagyu beef, one and another one that also had duck and pork. Sublime. Even the soft boiled egg was incredibly jammy and tasted like it came from a foreign land. Incredibly balanced broth that I can drink all day We got a chicken karrage one other thing that I forget, which was also delicious. I think it was some sort of sushi roll. Only gripe is that the seating is a little bit cramped. There is a waitlist, but they text you when your number is up so you have time to explore the area a little bit. Go on a weekday during non-rush-hour. Loved it and will come back soon to try their other dishes
While the wait can be long, it was well worth it. Enoki chips - must try Pickled yuzu cucumber with ikura - an elevated cucumber salad compared to others (refreshing) Spicy lamb miso cumin - good, a bit on the heavy side, I think if I had to redo as my first bowl (first time) there, I think I would go for something a bit more classic to taste their base. Not that this wasn't good but it was very hearty and not something I was entirely expecting. Matcha panna cotta - not too sweet!
This place blew my mind. The flavors are so unique. We had the wagyu churasi and karage chicken (order the spicy chicken version) for appetizers. I ate the special ramen for main which had seared scallops and spicy beef. Perfect amount of heat. Will be adding this place to our regulars. A must try spot. Also our waitress Melinda was very thoughtful and had the best recommendations.
I think this place lives for the hype. Super great staff and the food is so so bomb. Aside from how good it tasted it looked amazing! The chicken karaage was the best I’ve ever had. The wait said 35-50 mins but it took maybe 10 to get a table. The vibe of this place is also super cool.
The best Ramen ive ever tried! Garlic tuna handrolls were great as well! We arrived 10 minutes before opening and were first in the line so we didn’t have to wait for the table.
10/10!! Food was amazing. I’ve never had any ramen in the entire Bay Area that tasted this good. Service was fantastic. Came from San Jose and will definitely make the jaunt back.
Mensho is a great authentic Japanese Ramen restaurant. We tried it for the first time to celebrate my sister in law's birthday. We were 5 of us and tried 4 different ramens out of 6 Vegan Ramen options. Our overall favorite is "Vegan Spicy Garlic Knock Out", very tasty and flavorful. 2nd favorite for us was Vegan Miso. I have tried many ramen places but have never tried an eggplant in ramen, this was the first time and it did taste good along with vegan soy meat (other places are so bad). From the appetizers, we tried garlic edamame and corn wings. Corn wings is nothing but roasted corn pieces, however the spice powder that comes with it was very tasty, so even if you don't try corn wings, ask for the spicy powder that comes with it if you like spicy food, to make your ramen even more spicy. Restaurant is decent size but still gets noisy and congested a little. Be prepared to wait for some time before your turn as it was very busy on Sunday evening. We visited on Sunday evening around 6:30PM and it was packed, tried to call in and make reservations, but because they might be busy, no one picked up the phone. Being a strict vegetarian it was very important for us to not get our food mixed up with meats and loved how they have separate vegan menu options. One suggestion to keep in mind: Prepare to wait approximately 30 minutes after you add your name on waitlist.. Pricing: Prices of each item is little higher compared to other ramen restaurants in the area, and quantities doesn't justify the high price. Parking: There is lot of street parking, however it was pretty hard to find one on Sunday evening, so plan to keep some extra time to find parking. I think you'll get that as the overall wait time at restaurant is atleast around 30 minutes. Location: Mensho is conveniently located on Piedmont Avenue in Oakland. Surroundings: There are so many restaurants and dessert places like Fenton's Creamery next to Mensho. Dietary Restrictions: Good place for Vegetarians & Vegans. Since it might be hard to make vegan ramen without roots, Jain options are not available. Coupons or other offers: N.A, Views: View of Piedmont Avenue and traffic
Outstanding noodles. Outstanding broths. Outstanding uni/wagyu handrolls. Signature chicken ramen was rich and frothy. Reminded us of Hakata Ippai in Japan. It almost tasted like cream of mushroom (???) it was that umami! And the crab ramen, YUM! Tho I fished out most of the red onions. Will be back!
An outstanding high-end ramen experience. Every dish is thoughtfully executed, from the refined flavors to the attentive service and comfortable dining space. 🍜 The Signature Smoked Toripaitan delivers a rich yet smooth chicken paitan broth with impressive depth. The mix of smoked pork chashu, A5 wagyu, duck, and truffle sauce creates an elegant, aromatic bowl, with chewy noodles that absorb the broth perfectly. 🍜 The Japanese A5 Wagyu Shoyu Ramen is clean, balanced, and deeply flavorful. The shoyu is savory without being salty, and the melt-in-your-mouth wagyu pairs beautifully with tomato, yuzu, daikon, and fried burdock. 🍄 Crispy Enoki Chips with chili powder and lemon are light and addictive, and the Japanese Uni A5 Wagyu Nigiri Sushi is a must—fresh, sweet uni with buttery wagyu that melts instantly. Pricey, but absolutely worth it. Would happily return.
Truly the best ramen I’ve ever had. We ordered the signature ramen with chili oil. It was brilliant. The broth was rich and flavorful and the noodles were incredible, clearly homemade. We had the matcha pudding for dessert. It came with strawberries and a red bean paste. Incredible. Perfect portion sizes. They have most of the menu available to be made vegan or vegetarian. HIGHLY recommend for vegan or vegetarians. Service was super friendly. They take your order efficiently and are very efficient about food coming out without feeling pushy. This place gets very busy especially on weekend. We waited about 35 minutes for a table. They have an online system and you get a text when your table is ready, you have 10 minutes to come back once you get the text. Interior has a mix of high tables and regular. Bathrooms were clean. Entire restaurant and bathroom were wheelchair accessible.
I had previously visited the Mensho location in SF and was pretty underwhelmed by their vegan options, so I’m really glad I gave this spot another try—what a difference! I wasn’t even that hungry, but the "Yuzu Mizore Ramen" was absolutely incredible. I devoured the whole bowl! Each flavor stood out beautifully—the citrusy yuzu, the roasted tomato, the perfectly chewy gobo chips, and the deeply flavorful broth. I also tried the "Sequoia Sake", which was elegantly presented and incredibly smooth. Service was quick, the experience was delightful, and I’d easily rate it a 10/10. Highly recommend! Edit: Visited again and tried the "vegan miso ramen" along with the "daikon salad". The salad was fantastic—fresh microgreens with a tangy sauce I really enjoyed. The miso ramen, however, didn’t quite hit the mark for me. Compared to the yuzu ramen I had last time, it felt less complex, with more noodles than veggies and a smaller amount of broth. The soy granules also came across a bit heavy. Just not my kind of ramen, but I’ll definitely be back to explore more of their menu. Edit: Visited again! This time tried the "Corn wings" which were so delicate and flavorful—a wonderful healthy starter. Also got the "Born Junmai" sake which was a little on the dry side and perfect for us!
Excellent food and nice ambience. Ordered Handroll Crab Sushi, Japanese Hoatate, Signature Smoked Toripaitan Ramen and Spicey Lamb Miso Cumin Ramen. Scallops in Hoatate were super fresh and taste was good. We were blown away with the Lamb Ramen: rich savory gravy and perfectly cooked minced lamb was outstanding combination. Definitely we will be back soon.
This is the best ramen spot in the Bay! I need to try more on their menu, but it's so hard when the crab ramen is made so well 😭 I tried the buttered scallops tonight- I highly recommend! Everything here is quality and made fresh- no to-go orders. The staff is always so kind. My partner and I had a wonderful time being served by Laura this evening. Definitely will be back for our 8th or 9th time lol Great for date night or solo.
Came in - after multiple recommendations - on a Monday at 6:30pm and got seated immediately. The space is modern and fun with ample seating (mostly shared tables for pairs/individuals). We ordered the spicy garlic chicken karaage, signature smoked toripaitan ramen, and garlic knockout ramen. The broth is by far the most flavorful we've had, and we eat a lot of ramen! The noodles were also exceptional - chewy and bouncy - and the toppings are so good. The karaage was also perfectly crispy with light breading and so much flavor, although next time we might opt for the non-spicy. Service was pretty fast and attentive from the start; took a bit longer for the bill, but we didn't mind sitting and digesting. For two people, the total came out to around 80$ including tip - not the cheapest, but worth it. Acoustics make it a bit hard to hear. Parking was not hard to find on side streets. We're already planning our next visit back to try more of the menu!
The ramen was oh so delicious! I’d say skip all appetizers and other items and definitely try the signature bowl. It was so cute in there with great ambiance and service — I’d definitely go back! I can see why this is the highest rated out of all their locations because their hospitality and quick service were unbeatable. We got there right when it opened so very little line but filled up quickly we noticed!
The ramen was delicious, we really appreciated the vegan options, a whole menu page of different vegan ramen choices!!! The flavors were complex, interesting, and delicious. Add the spicy yuzu, and we also got the corn wings for the table. We were there on a busy Saturday and the service did not suffer, staff was friendly and professional and our food came quickly. It is very loud when it is busy if that bothers you.
We waited for an hour, so definitely get in line on Yelp before coming. The ramen is exceptional and the soup is very flavourful (salty). The noodles are also sticky and not soft, so be aware if you don't like those kinds of noodles. The staff was welcoming and checked on us regularly. We even got kicked out for finishing early and sitting there 😂😂😂
We endured a 75-minute wait, but it was an absolute delight. The service was impeccable, and the food was divine. The flavors were intense and perfectly balanced, creating a symphony of taste. The presentation was impeccable, and the service was quick and efficient. The staff was enthusiastic, friendly, and incredibly dynamic. This place is definitely a must-visit, and I’ll be returning for sure!
We arrived at 5:10 and thankfully were seated right away. Within 10-15 minutes after we were seated there was a line out the door so I'm glad we arrived early! When we walked in my older daughter said it smelled like Japan (we went last year). This set the tone for a delicious meal and great experience to celebrate my husband's birthday. It was a bit loud and felt cramped, but that also gave us flashbacks of Japan. We ate every single bite and excited to come back again!
We were waiting for almost an hour but totally worth it. I can say this place is the best ramen place in USA. We ordered Toripaitan ramen, Wakyu A5 sushi and Uni sushi. They all were amazing!!!! Rich in flavors and varies of textures. The broth of ramen was amazing!! The crispy enoki mushrooms were tasty!! They don't have to go order because they want to keep the quality of the freahly made ramen to meet the standard. I want to come back again and order side dishes and different kind of raman and Japanese food here.

Bro imma be honest…. This shit was sooooo MID😭😭 I got the smoked toripaitan. My food was cold…the noodles were hot but the broth was lukewarm. The toppings were cold. There was no steam like when you get freshly served ramen💯 It didn’t taste bad, but it wasn’t mind blowing either… it just seemed like they maxxed out on fancy flavors, ya there’s truffle in it but Marafuku ramen easily solos. Don’t matter if you use 32 different ingredients just to have a mid broth. You also have to pay for chili oil which is ridiculous. I also tried the waygu ramen… MID. The tables we’re small and the service was slow, the those table dividers you’d use when you were taking tests in elementary school. I’ve tried almost every ramen spot at the bay. I wouldn’t rate this higher than 7/10. Don’t let the performative foodies get to you 💯 looks good in pics but is actually subpar
My vegetarian ramen was good, but my boyfriend’s ramen came with mushrooms even though we specifically asked for no mushrooms because he is allergic. It was really scary because we saw it when he already ate 😭 the restaurant removed that bowl from the bill.
**update-ended up profusely vomiting and going to the ER. This is not how I respond to MSG (usually get a migraine)- something was spoiled, and I cant find a phone number to report the issue! Moral- only get sushi/waygu tartar at sushi places. The health department did report visiting the restaurant and finding violations that needed to be remedied immediately- and I still have not found a way to contact the restaurant myself. <update- according to employees at the restaurant> Everything has MSG, even the rice. The scallops (or green onion?) were really sandy. I got the waygu tartar (was the best plate I got), scallop hotate and tuna garlic hand roll because they had "low msg." Tuna was super fishy, would not get again <update-I think this is what got me so sick>. Staff was nice, sour beer really good, and presentation was pretty. I ate it all and am not a big eater, bill was $70. Funny cause they have this huge wall display about how they get their umami flavor, when in reality its a canned soup base with msg. <update: according to employees, they use a premade soup base, which contains MSG>
