Ono Hawaiian BBQ

By far the best Ono I've been to in a long time. The place was clean, the food fresh, and packed neat which are all pluses when I eat take out! I had to give them a great review as I'm eating leftovers 2 days later. Thx to the staff & management.

Right in the Fruitvale Station Shopping area , Ono serves up nice portions of hawaiian plate lunches. It tends to be fairly busy but not too crowded for all the times that I visit this place. You can always find a table or area inside to enjoy your meal. My favorites are the Hawaiian bbq mix and the seafood mix. The Hawaiian mix has bbq beef,short rib,and bbq chicken with a scoop of Mac and rice. The seafood mix has the batter fried shrimp,fried fish ,and bbq chicken with a scoop of rice and Mac. You can help yourself to the self serve sauces they have on the side. The teriyaki sauce is darker,bold,and has a more umami taste to it. The katsu sauce is more lighter,tangy sweet and sour, and a bit spicy.

2026 Update: Ono Hawaiian BBQ, Oakland I've been coming here for more than 8 years or so, I like that they have a display of Katsu and Teriyaki sauce on the side. My go-to order is usually the Chicken Katsu, Seafood Mix or the Shrimp and Island White Fish lunch Plate. All my food was made to order, I always ask for more Mac salad and their Kalbi Short Ribs is pretty good too! Their portions are pretty big, so it’s enough for two people to share. Got the bbq chicken and shrimp combo to-go and it's really good! Not even normally a fan of mac and cheese but this one was great, vegetables were crunchy which made for an overall balanced meal. Its quite a big portion too, could be split into 2 meals.

I was riding my bike and decided to stop in for the first time. It was 8:PM when I arrived and they closed at 8:30. I was unreal and felt so bad but they told me it was fine and was really nice. Helped me with the menu, offered a variety of sauces and didnt have an attitude I arrived before closing. The place was super clean and the food was tasty and cooked well. It was a great experience.

The service is friendly and fast. The interior is pretty nice for a fast food joint. The food was a lot better than many of the Hawaiian BBQ chains, it wasn't overly salty, cooked just right, and very generous portion. I'll definitely go again.

The restaurant is very clean and I love the screen menu . The staff is friendly but a bit unprofessional. I didn't really appreciate them talking about personal things while one of them was taking my order and also afterwards when I asked if they had sauces . It's okay to talk amongst each other but as a foodie and years of experience with customer service that is not pleasant . Other than that food was great ! Just train your staff better on customer service :)

I ordered a grilled chicken salad. The chicken portion was enough for two. The greens were a cut above iceberg, but could benefit by adding some carrots, onions, tomatoes, celery. This is an order at the counter, but does have a serve your self drink bar.

I decided to try this restaurant because I was very hungry and I happened to be in the parking lot. The food was great, much better than a couple of other Hawaiian BBQ joints I've been to in Oakland. I probably won't go out of my way to eat here on a regular basis, but I will definitely keep it in mind, especially if I'm close by.

Really good Hawaiian! Been waiting a long time for them to put one close to my area... They fixed the problem ive had with other Hawaiian bbq joints..the food was moist and tender and they even had sauces! Finally! Service could use a lil help though, staff was very young and at times stopped cooking to talk. It sounded like they didn't know what to do..it took longer than usual for me to get my order.

Food is great! But the service was not properly taken. One of the employees answer me in horrible tone of voice! And replying, "What do you want!?" I was very polite by saying "Excuse Me" first. Good thing the food is good.

It was better before pandemic now they are still friendly but at a distance. And I totally understand it. The pandemic changed the ambiance of the business. Food is still fantastic!

The food was awesome. The sweet tea was not sweet. They had paper straws which i don't like. We cot a combo plate of chicken, pork and beef with rice and mac salad. It was excellent. Was looking for more info on the sauces .

The food is just as good as any other Ono Hawaiian BBQ and the service is top-notch. This location only accepts cards, no cash!

The food was pretty decent. I ordered the Katsu chicken which when I got it, it was luke warm and additionally some parts of the chicken were dried out. My wife ordered the seafood platter which was okay. The shrimp were the highlight of that plate but the fish was oily and mushy. The only other issue was the music playing in the store was too loud especially in the restrooms. It was beyond loud in the restrooms that it was uncomfortable to be in there.

So disappointed. Have eaten here many times but, today was bad. Shrimp undercooked and chicken overcooked. Cabbage has a weird smell. Heart's broken and I'm hungry.

Got the lemon pepper chicken plate and the chicken thigh was visibly overcooked and astonishingly dry; like it had be hot-held in a steamtable for a few hours. It was almost crunchy texture because of how dry it was and I could not eat it. The kalbi shortribs were tasty and cooked properly and the macaroni salad and rice was good as well. Just wish the chicken had been edible, because it was seasoned nicely, just super dry.

They put onions in their Mac salad and it was pretty potent. Didn't like that. Also didn't like that they didn't carry curry chicken katsu as well their portions are smaller than most Hawaiian bbq BBQ places for the family meal deal.

I frequent here. That Asian lady fronting the store can be mean when you try to explain your order. Other than that shredded pork is my favorite. FYI I have found human hair in my plate once but I see this as a one off as the place is always clean. I have watched one of them come out of toiletry and cleaned after her mess.

I was disappointed they over fried the shrimp 😔 and are order took super long. Everything else was ok. Staff was nice friendly. It looks clean. Maybe next time will be better...

Long long wait, worst Hawaiian Bbq I have tried. Slow night, half full, took 15-18 minutes to get the food. Napkins behind the counter, rationed like WWII panty hose. Food price was on higher side for this,style. Cuts of,meat were tougher than other similar places. The help was nice and friendly. New tables and chairs. I had the combo plate and usually prefer the beef portion pretty but all the beef is very tough. The chicken was however pretty good

Got this delivered by uber eats and thought it was alright, but the portions were not worth it to be honest! I’ve seen other Hawaiian places load up their plate but this was barely a good portion for the price in my opinion.

This was my 3rd visit since placed opened up a month or 2 ago. Food is usually good, but this time the food might have not been cooked well enough. Ended up getting a case of food poisoning right after I ate here. Hope they are more careful in the future and cook their meat a little better.

$20 through UberEats for a BBQ Mix. Only received 1 spare rib and a few pieces of meat. It’s a damn shame, this should be a kids plate. I received a lot of vegetables to make the plate look big. Cheap servers, whoever serves lunch needs retraining. This isn’t the first time this happens.
