This place is a hidden gem!!! As someone who needs gluten free options it’s so RARE to find a place that offers CORN quesadillas!! The corn masa had the perfect blend of soft and crunchy at the edges. Satisfying with every bite. Everything gets a choice of plant based proteins and a couple mushroom options. I tried the hongo quesadillas and the lentil soup. My partner had the hongo sopes- which had a bean paste base. OMG it was all SO good!!! 6/5 recommend !!! Even non vegetarians would enjoy the variety of options here. 🤤 places like this reaffirm how Oakland earned its spot as #1 food city in America. 🥇
Phenomenal little spot with hearty Latin vegan food! Sitting outside on a cool winter morning with the Oakland sun on your face and people watching the farmers market folks is the best way to enjoy this rich and delicious Latin food. The lentil soup carried its weight and reminded me of mulled wine sold on the streets of Venice - rich and flavorful it warmed my heart. The sopes came out and was built like a tower loaded with a corn base, mushroom, and vegan cheese. In my ideal world I would have gotten regular cheese but the vegan option didn't stand out too much. My partner got the quesadilla and while she found it a little spicy, cutting it with the rice helped balance out the spice profile. The quesadilla was made with corn flour and that rare option alone deserves an entire star for this spot.
Super tasty vegan Mexican food; the menu is simple and there’s no bad choices. Order at the counter, option to use QR code, but when we were there it wasn’t busy and staff was happy to answer questions and take our order. We got a shrimp burrito and a 3 taco combo plate, sat outside on the quiet street side, and enjoyed our meal thoroughly. Highly recommended!
Pink tortillas! So fun. Creative menu. Lovely staff. Only not great part is that the table and chairs on sidewalk, as opposed to a safer setting.
Rice Rico Vegano – Oakland A calm and welcome presence for those who walk a mindful path with their meals. We dined in and ordered the veggie burrito and the 2 taco combo with salad. Both dishes were solid—nourishing, straightforward, and thoughtfully prepared. They offered salsa and avocado salsa packets on the side, which added a quiet yet appreciated dimension of flavor. It’s worth noting that their regular (non-vegan) version of the restaurant is just around the corner. Having this fully plant-based location is a thoughtful gesture—ideal for those who are cautious about cross-contamination or simply seek clarity and intention in their food choices. No frills, no excess. Just clean, plant-based fare, prepared with care. A good stop for those who prefer substance over spectacle.
What a wonderful experience, being able to eat Mexican food without having chili peppers (I’m allergic). I was very well attended to by the cashier, who served me literally a few minutes ago, and my glass of orange juice fell on the floor, and she refilled it for me. I’m so grateful, everything was incredible, I highly recommend it, my favorite beef taco. Thank you so much.
Pretty good vegan tacos! Highly recommend the asada - that was our favorite. Al pastor (hibiscus) was good but very tangy in flavor. Also enjoyed the mushroom tinga and the cauliflower. Would def come back to try other tacos here. My suggestion for improvement would be to have much spicier salsa options! No indoor seating, and just a few outdoor tables on the sidewalk. Pretty fairly priced tacos (around $5 each) and reasonably quick service (took us like 15 min to get our food after ordering). Rating: 4.3/5.
Tacos were really good. Really enjoyed the vegan carne asada and vegan shrimp tacos. Cauliflower taco was excellent, had the right amount of crisp and the cauliflower still held its form without being soggy. Would have to revisit to try other things.
This will be one of my go-tos when visiting the Oakland area. They are not lacking on flavor! Rico Rico has mastered this, flavor. The pollo(chicken) quesadilla 10/10. The carne asada and soyrizo tacos 10/10. The camaron(shrimp) taco 1/10; the texture of the vegan shrimp was too odd and the taco itself was overwhelming it had so many toppings. The esquites 10/10. Jamaica drink 10/10. If you’re looking for some delicious vegan eats, stop looking and order Rico Rico now. P.S. those house salsas are so good, they should bottle and sell it!
Love rico rico vegano for tacos specifically. Super grateful to have them here. I wish they had indoor seating, but they're nice about it and they let you sit in the other non-vegan location of Rico Rico to eat the food if you really want. The best food by far at rico rico vegano are the 3 tacos with rice and beans. Get carne asada and hongo for the tacos. The kids quesadilla is only ok, maybe i just dont like any cheesy things though. The guacamole portion is small for chips & guac and the chips aren't my favorite. But those tacos are SO GOOD. Pitaya tortillas are 🔥
I’m almost tearing up at how perfect this place is. I had only one day to spend in the east bay during my trip to California and had a seriously hard time narrowing down where to eat. Oakland and Berkeley seemed to have a great number of Asian vegan food options, but after glancing at the gorgeous photos of the tacos, bowls, and quesadillas at Rico Rico Vegano, I knew this was the right choice. Their magenta tacos (that owe their color to dragonfruit!) won me over immediately. The more closely I looked at the menu, the more excited I became. They have ELEVEN different types of vegan tacos that include a great mix of healthy veggies (calabacitas, nopal, mushrooms), crispy fried options (konjac camarones, cauliflower), and fake meats (carne asada made from seitan, soyrizo, soy chicken). I opted for the carne asada and the soyrizo, and both were popping with flavor and insanely fresh. I appreciated the simple garnishes of cilantro and onion since I prefer to avoid fake cheese (though many of their tacos do come with fake cheese and honestly it looks great). I got the 2-taco combo with beans and rice but actually requested double beans instead of rice, because how often do you get to have vegan pinto beans? The plate came with pickled carrots and radishes, a nice little touch. Their homemade salsas are delicious (red and green). I’m basically obsessed with this place. The food tastes as good as it looks. Don’t miss the chance to come here.
An amazing addition to the vegan options in the area. They have very tasty options, and their tortillas are pink 😍 the cauliflower tacos are so good you could almost think they're actual Baja fish tacos. The Al Pastor burrito was made out of hibiscus flowers and is totally amazing. Ingredients are super fresh and the flavours are authentic. Their staff is friendly and the space itself is really cute. We'll definitely be back soon!
Exceptional food experience. The three taco combo with beans and rice was delicious. The strawberry agua fresca was refreshing and the customer service was excellent. The outside seating was cozy and comfortable. I am already looking forward to my next visit.
Warm and friendly, clean. LOVE that everything is vegan- (no worries about checking whether cheese and sauces are vegan). The homemade pink tortillas are fun, fresh and fluffy. The rice and refried beans were delicious- better than most nonvegan versions elsewhere. Mushroom tacos tasty but could use much less salt. Cauliflower tacos were good and filling. No seating indoors but it is okay to take your food around the corner to Rico Rico Tacos. Some nice outdoor tables though.
Hooray for Rico Rico Vegano! The taco tortillas are a stunning hot pink- I LOVE them. The vibrant colored food is so fun to eat. Not only is this food stunning to look at but it’s also incredibly delicious. Sometimes vegan restaurants can miss the mark on flavor but Rico Rico Vegano has nailed it. I could eat their cauliflower tacos every day! I met Rico (Ricardo) and he’s super friendly and wants to know what his customers think of the food. Just a great guy and a great restaurant. So happy about this new local spot!!! Bonus points: all their packaging is compostable!
What kind of witchcraft is this?! I got the 3 taco combo and only could finish 2 of them. Asada had me double checking it wasn’t really grilled steak! Gorgeous presentation and the hot pink tacos are so unique. Edible art that might make this meat eater into a vegan!

Amazing food, very colorful and flavorful. I got the tacos and not only are they vegan, they also don't have any nuts
This is my only favorite mexican place in all of bay area! The vegan food is done so well! Everything was bursting with flavors and tasted wholesome! Their menu is also big and has some really interesting options! I can’t wait to come back and try more things! We got their vegan asada, carnitas and tinga tacos, soy chorizo burrito, cauliflower ceviche and jamaica water and we were happy with how it all tasted! Great ambiance and kind staff!
We had something to take care of in Oakland today and found this place through Maps. I normally live in SF. Everything was amazing! Fresh, clean, and delicious — I really loved the packaging and all the details. Thank you, Rico Rico Vegano! Hope you open a location in SF as well! 🌱✨
The presentation and color is just as pretty as shown on the photos; it all tastes natural and of high quality ingredients; and the variety and complexity of flavors blows away anything I could make at home and any vegetarian/vegan Mexican food I have ever eaten at other restaurants. Staff is friendly and happy to explain what everything is made out of. What I was not expecting is how delicious the flavors would be and all the options available to vary your meal. Basically, I'm planning to be a regular. It was that good.

I miss eating here sooo much since I left California. It’s truly 10/10. I could just taste the burrito bowl right now!! Everything I had was great, and I love how the options truly present different flavors.
Overall a solid choice for vegan Mexican food. Quality for some items not good. Last week had the sopes combo plate with vegan pollo, a carne asada 🌮 taco, a shrimp 🌮 taco, and a tinga shredded oyster mushroom 🌮 taco. Today tried the potato flautas, soy chorizo taco and mushroom hongos taco 🌮. Sopes - good, nice crispy texture on the outside, very filling Potato flautas - nice and crunchy, made with small flour tortillas, very filling - Pollo vegan chicken - bland, could use more seasoning - Shrimp camarones - breaded and fried, generous portion with three in one taco, bland and could use some seasoning - Tinga - good seasoning, but the oyster mushroom texture was rubbery and got stuck in my teeth; maybe a finer shred would be better. - Mushroom hongos - too salty, lacked spices/flavor otherwise - Soy chorizo - this was the worst filling. Most of it not bad, but there were some completely burned black inedible soy crumbles that tasted like rancid oil. They need to change the oil more often and not feed people the old burned bits. Red smoky salsa - good but strong and can overpower other flavors. Habanero salsa - better, spicy without overpowering other flavors Soup, vegetable - mostly potatoes, also carrots and corn 🌽, so bland Pitaya pink tortillas - thick and soft, break apart if not thoroughly cooked Watermelon radishes - very pretty, refreshing, but absorbed the smell of cleaning chemicals in the air, so they tasted bad. Napkins and paper bags absorbed cleaning chemical smell also, making them hard to tolerate.
