our visits are always on top of their game...if anything is ever off the rectify and are prompt to clear it up...ALEX WAS one of our best servers...
Excellent choice! Every single seat was taken, still only waited 20 minutes. There’s a reason why it’s so busy! The food is amazing. Even on a busy Saturday night, the staff was still able to keep fresh bread and drinks out for everyone. Cody was an excellent server. We will definitely be back. I cannot emphasize enough how amazing the bread is here.
I love this place and keep coming back. I crave their orecchiette bolognese and that is what I ordered last night. The sauce is so perfectly done with just the right amount of salt and acidity, perfectly cooked beef, and excellent sauce to noodle ratio. The orecchiette noodle is the perfect vehicle for this sauce. Every bite is well coated and delicious. Additionally the house made focaccia bread in garlic olive oil make for an excellent complimentary appetizer and is a great way to continue to enjoy the bolognese sauce. 10/10 recommend!
I’m so glad we finally have a quality Italian restaurant in our area. Having lived in Italy in the past, my expectations are always rather high for Italian food. We started out with a version of bruschetta that impressed me from the start. The mozzarella was very fresh and the bread toasted to perfection. We moved on to an arugula salad that was as fresh as I’ve ever had. My chicken piccata was SO tender and the squash spaghetti paired quite well with it. After that we had the tiramisu, which was a bit more dense than I’m used to, but still great. The service was wonderful and the location is lovely. I’ll definitely be visiting again in the future.
When we moved to Ooltewah there was basically a McDonald’s and a Hardee’s and a handful of Mexican restaurants. I’m glad that restaurants like Il Primo have opened up here. We hadn’t planned on going out so we didn’t have reservations and the place was packed (on a Tuesday!). Our wait was exactly 16 minutes which gave us enough time to overhear a conversation involving a doctor from Tel Aviv by way of New Jersey talking about how Jesus was Jewish and it was all very interesting but I digress. We both got salads (apple/spinach and Caesar) and shared some Prosecco (half price tonight!) They serve bread with olive oil which has garlic and parsley and a few red pepper flakes. I will never get restaurant math because there were two of us and they served us three pieces of bread - but it was good and had just enough bite, mostly from the garlic I believe. We both ordered entrees from the specials. I had the redfish with potatoes and green beans. The potatoes away from the fish on the plate weren’t particularly hot (or really even warm) but the fish was well-seasoned and had a perfect buttery texture, was served at just the right temperature and the veggies close to the fish were also a good temperature. My wife had the lobster risotto. It was quite flavorful and creamy - with perhaps a little bit too much risotto for the amount of lobster (or rather, not enough lobster for the risotto) but indulgent nonetheless. The risotto itself was perhaps a little more toothy than we prefer but with a dish this tasty it would be difficult to find much to complain about. The service was pleasant and attentive. I asked the waitress about vegan options (we are not) and she, being vegan, was delighted to tell us about the offerings and modifications available which, though limited, were satisfactory. It was a pleasant meal, a little on the expensive side, but worth it for a treat, a special occasion or a Tuesday night just because.
I reviewed the other location with high marks and a true perfect experience so I was excited to try this location and it did not disappoint one bit. Our group started with some drinks. The cider sangria is great, especially if you like cider - hard or juice. It's a nice balance of spice (think cinnamon) and not too sweet. Definitely recommend. For our starters, our group had the burrata, fried ravioli, and the charcuterie board. The burrata is hands down divine. The fried ravioli and charcuterie board were delicious as well. The special was the chicken carbonara. Oh. My. Goodness. Words cannot describe how amazing it was. We also enjoyed the special salad: it had pears, gorgonzola, candied pecans, and a vinaigrette of some sorts. So good. All in all, from the service to the food, it is a magical experience. Il Primo has come to be my favorite restaurant in Chattanooga.
We decided to change it up a little bit and try something different, so we tried this wonderful place. Perfect for a date. Our waiter, Jeremy, was very knowledgeable about the menu and provided excellent service.
TERRIFIC food! What a great spot. We so desperately need upscale restaurants around here. Its casual but done right. Really enjoyed it and will be back.
Excellent food and service. They did a great job making sure that my partner and I had a great 10th Anniversary dinner. I got the orecchiette bolognese, which was delicious, and we had an equally delicious seasonal creme brulee for dessert. Overall, we had a great time here and would recommend Il Primo for any kind of date night, not just for anniversaries!
What a great experience it was the first time a visiting this location the staff was extremely friendly the service was great the food was absolutely wonderful what a great location I would definitely recommend and would return. We enjoyed calamari Caesar salads spaghetti and meatballs lasagna don't think you could ever go wrong with these dishes prices were reasonable
We came here for our Anniversary and Shelbie was a great server had a great attitude gave a free dessert for our Anniversary Dinner . There Red Sangrias are amazing the bar in Ooltewah is a great spot to meet someone and walk around before leaving make sure to check times of bars and restaurants of closing before you make reservations! For this place is Reservations is best
I had never tried the lasagne before, even though I had dined here previously many times. It was delicious! I highly recommend it, and the cider sangria is perfect on a crisp, fall day.
My husband and I had a fantastic dinner at this restaurant in Ooltewah. This restaurant is beautiful, we had great service and a wonderful meal! We will return here.
This place is an Italian gem in Ooltewah. Wonderful food. Great prices. And you get plenty of food with your order. We will be back here.
Amazing Italian cuisine. It's a very nice relaxing atmosphere. Perfect "date night" place. Wonderful friendly service Everytime.
Love Il Primo. Great food, great service. Delicious imaginative menu. Love it. Wish they were occasionally open for lunch.
Very good great service, great food, nice atmosphere. Food was excellent tasting. Fancy on the outside, but pretty chill on inside. It's definitely worth a trip!
We were seated quickly at dinner time with accommodations for an older adult in our party. Our waitress was excellent! The meals came quickly, the food was amazing, and there were lots of cute drinks. Great experience!
Of course it’s amazing. The Public House/Il Primo folks know how to put on a meal. This one has a similar vibe to the North Shore location but is slightly larger. Great service and fabulous food. Two things I always get when dining with these folks.
Cool atmosphere with really great Italian food. Best Italian in the Chattanooga area. Highly recommend the lasagna which I’ve been ordering for years from the north shore location as well.
Nice place to eat outside on a pretty night. Great service and yummy food!
Food and service 5 stars !!Hands down insane value for the price . I love that they have a good ammount of seating that on most weekdays I can get in walking in . Everything is good but.... the Mushroom ravioli is a dish even my meat loving self keep reordering time after time ! Please keep it on the full time menu.
Wnt here for dinner on a Saturday and we really enjoyed the experience. We arrived around 5pm and there was not wait to be seated. Our server was prompt and attended yo us quickly. We order a couple of appetizers which were both awesome, unfortunately I do not recall the names of them. The dinner meals were also good, again I didn't get the names of the dishes. Prices are about average for Italian, and the atmosphere was nice. Overall I enjoyed the dining experience and wouldn't mind returning in the future.
✨️ 20/10 recommend! I've visited both locations, and the quality of the dishes and service is top tier! Recently, I tried the Ricotta Cavatelli, Brussel sprouts, Sundried tomato, and Bacon. Each ingredient was cooked to perfection and you can tell Grade-A ingredients were used. I've enjoyed multiple cocktails and they've all been tasty. Don't hesitate to go!
One of our favorite Italian restaurants in the Chattanooga area! The bread with garlic and olive oil is delicious. The sangria is one of my favorite drinks. If you go before 6pm, it’s happy hour and drinks are cheaper. Every dish we’ve tried has always met our expectations. My kids love the lasagna and I really love the chicken piccata and the salmon.
Good at Italian food at a reasonable price? Get outta here! Appetizer, a side, two mains, and three drinks all for $80, and that includes a 20% tip. We're still dreaming about the cider sangria. But let's get down to it. I thought the carpaccio was just okay but my wife loved it. It was really more of a salad to me with the arugula mountain on top, but that's my only nitpick of the entire experience. The cavatelli was homemade and beyond delicious, the meatballs huge and incredible, the collard greens unlike anything you'd get back where we came from. For the price, the quality of the food is just too good to pass up and we look forward to many more visits.
We are never disappointed! Right from the minute you walk through the door, the staff is cheerful even on their busiest nights, and waltz around each other like it was choreographed! The food is amazing and every dish I seen delivered to each table looked like it was meant for a magazine shoot! They have a fabulous selection of cocktails and delicious desserts! I was thoroughly impressed the whole time we were there! Keep up the good work!! ❤️
Stopped in here late on a Friday night. Had a wonderful meal. Ashley was a great server. Will definitely be back.
My wife and I come here occasionally for special occasions. We have enjoyed it every time, and so far the food quality has remained good through the years.
A wonderful place for a lovely Italian dinner. I have been here two times now and have absolutely loved my experience with the very friendly and professional staff. The food is always on point and just an absolute must go restaurant if you are in the area.
EXCELLENT food, service and ambiance! Truly, this is the BEST food my husband and I have had in the Chattanooga area. Great Italian food! I LOVE, LOVE their Chatt Whiskey Sour! Very different but outstanding! They also did a superb job in acknowledging my husband's birthday!
We have lived here for over 2 years and finally had a chance to try out some Italian food. The pasta dish with white sauce was able to be substituted with chicken instead of the shrimp. It was so good! Jeremy was an awesome server and really took care of us. We will bring the kids back.
I’ve loved everything I’ve tried at il primo. The staff is exceptional! They really hustle and all are smiling!
This is a delicious Italian restaurant. The complimentary bread is delicious, entrees are yummy....and the Tiramisu....buckle up, because it's fantastic. We've been here a few times and I try something different every time I come here.
We visit here often, but tonight’s experience warranted a review. Our server Alex, was absolutely amazing! He was very knowledgeable and described the menu items and specials with such ease. He made suggestions and helped us navigate the menu. He had a great attitude and sense of humor and our dining experience was fantastic because of him. The food and cocktails were delicious, as always, but our night was made by the great service we received! Thanks you Alex!
This place was recommended by a friend and we are so glad she did!!! Everything was so good! We got the mushroom ravioli, the halibut special and the scallop risotto. I will be yearning to come back and eat here again. And I mustn’t forget our server Jacob who was professional and friendly. Ask first Jacob!
Courtney and the crew are simply phenomenal. But I have to give a special shout out to Naomi! She's such a hard worker! The food is so good and we just love the bread and olive oil.
We went here for the first time on Valentines Day and had an amazing experience!!!! The lasagna was the best lasagna either of us had ever had. We made a reservation ahead of time and when we got there they seated us right away. The server was so nice, he even took our picture for us. Great atmosphere for a date night. I wish I could give more than 5 stars !!!
Food is great, I regularly order the beef carpaccio, generous portion for the price. Soups are fantastic, as well as the branzino, they have a little for everyone's pallet. Family friendly and easy access. We have done small groups and larger parties and received the same prompt service. The bar area is cute for a date night or ladies happy hour.
Fantastic place, 4 Italians from out of town, we ordered multiple apps, 4 different meals, and 3 desserts. Everything was great, our server was awesome. Prices are very fair for the quality and quantity of food you get. Don't pass up on this place if you have the chance. I wish I had taken pictures to share. We all really enjoyed it, if you live local, this should be your regular spot for Italian food!!
Good extensive menu, excellent service. A little pricey, but worth it. July 2023: Group of six, good dishes all around. Very good service. Parking is scarce! The table seating is quite tight, and inflexible.
I liked it alot, but it was a bit too loud
Somewhat Americanized Italian restaurant but good. Staff is friendly and food is good. For me, it was little salty but not too much. Overall experience was good. We had some wine also. Even Tuesday, this place was pretty packed.
Would have gave it five stars but a server was not the best didn't give a silverware even though we asked twice another server ended up getting it for us. Food was delicious nice atmosphere except pretty loud. The patio is cold but they had heaters that didn't really heat.
I got a reservation a day before. The process was very straightforward and easy to make online. We came to Il Primo on a Saturday evening, the plaza was packed but there was still enough parking on the outskirts. Once we arrived, we got seated pretty quickly. We all ordered the same thing: the Mushroom Ravioli. It was absolutely delicious. The raviolis were covered in sauce and had parmesan and parsley sprinkled on top. Presentation was nice. I loved how creamy, yet light the sauce was. Also perfectly salted too. The Mushroom Raviolis were very flavorful, had a rich umami and savory taste to it. For my first dish here, it was very memorable. I'm pretty sure I was about to drink the sauce because I loved it haha. My only complaint is that I wish there was more. The dish had 6 raviolis. The ravioli was a decent size, but for the price I was expecting a little bit more. Despite this, I would come back again. I really enjoyed my food, it was a 4.5/5 for me.
Don't let the 4 stars fool you. It's only 4 because the menu selection is not very big. However, that means that the couple of dishes they do, they do very well. It's not one of those places where everything I had was incredible, but I haven't had anyone bad either. The staff is always great. Service is always great. Every Monday is eggplant Parmesan Monday. 5 stars for that day no doubt lol.
The food is good, but does not quite cross over into great. Everything else about the restaurant is great, however. The one standout is their bread!
I came into town to visit my parents for mother's day and my dad's 60th birthday. I researched a ton of restaurants and decided to book here as they love Italian food, the reviews seemed good and they make mostly everything from scratch. Overall, it was decent but there were many areas they could improve upon. Firstly the tables on the patio are too small for 3 people to enjoy our meal comfortably. We were constantly clearing and stacking dishes, rotating and shifting things to make room. We felt rushed from the moment we sat down even though it was not busy yet as I made a reservation at 5pm. Our first course came out in like 3 minutes and I gave my entree order just to get the menus out of the way but it was a mistake because then everything was rushed. There was a birthday card on the table, I made notations in the opentable reservation about the special occasion and we mentioned it to our server Jack- it was not a business lunch and there was no reason to rush us. After I felt the pressure, I decided to go to the bathroom and find our server to request that he slow down the courses and bring our pasta course separately from our entrees because of the small table and the fact we eat slowly. He said he'd try to slow them down, which gave me the impression they had already fired our entrees. I went back to the table and we continued eating our apps and literally 3 minutes later our fish special shows up by a food runner. Our table was completely full, I had just asked to slow it down, I requested the pasta course next and the dish in his hand looked not good. The fish was all broken apart and in pieces. I told him we weren't nearly ready for entrees yet, i looked at my watch and it was 5:15. We literally sat down just after 5pm. I was getting pretty frustrated at this point. Do they not course properly at this restaurant? Anyway, we continued on and it got a bit better and our server apologized and tried to fix the timing. It was fine from there out. The food: Lobster bisque-good flavor and consistency, but could use more lobster Burrata-ok. Basic, crostini's were a bit stale and hard. Definitely over baked or from the day before. Hurt my teeth to eat them. It was just warm tomatoes, burrata, 1 basil leaf and stale crostini. Nothing else. Also, the bread ratio was off as there were like 6-8 of the thinnest possible sliced baguette for a giant plate of tomatoes. Would have loved more crostini, some greens, maybe some vinegar, sea salt, jam.... something to bring the dish together. Mushroom rav-pretty good. Slightly undercooked as the ravioli had a bite to it that was more than al dente. Seemed like the pasta was rolled a bit too thick. It wasn't hot enough in the middle. Halibut- small filet, nice sear but overcooked. Wasn't really impressed with the set up over cauliflower. Polenta was good, creamy and flavorful. Scallops- again, nice sear but overcooked. Pea risotto was ok. Needed a depth of flavor, perhaps some cream, parm or butter to finish. Needed more seasoning and the arborio rice was a bit under cooked. Strawberry dessert special-not great. Pastry was super soggy underneath as if it wasn't prebaked beforehand. It was just all kind of mush. Luckily it was free otherwise I would have said something. Had to ask for silverware several times, sharing plates were hit or miss dirty, i didn't get my itemized bill and had to ask the host to see it because the server was swamped. toilet in bathroom was broken and I couldn't flush. Overall, they seemed understaffed perhaps or maybe lots of new employees? Ambience was nice, it was clean, location was great. However, disappointing service and food.
small portions for price - salmon not cooked well - great service - netter food for price elsewhere
I've been here numerous times, most of the time it is fenominal! We did unfortunately have a problem this visit, on our Togo meal our meatballs were raw in the middle. Pink and soggy. Ruined the appetite. And couldn't eat any of the rest of it. The store was closed so they couldn't fix it tonight. May revise review after the problem is corrected. To be continued
