Opinions de Old Town Mexican Cafe Orcutt
We were looking for a Mexican restaurant to have lunch as we were traveling the area and Googled when this place was recommended. It was well worth the visit. The salsa, and bean dip offered with chips was very tasty, delicious. We ordered soups. Albodigas and pozole both delicious and satisfying with all the trimmings. Service excellent, clean including restroom. Ambience like being in a little Mexican town. Prices $$ excellent for travelers.
My family gets to-go food from here a lot (they are open later than most in Old Town). Consistently fresh, tasty, humble Mexican food- always hits the spot. Super nice people too :)
Ordered their special of the day, a chicken taco, two beef enchiladas, rice, beans, and great service. The salsa they bring to the table is really great! We really enjoyed our dinner while visiting Old Town Orcutt! What was a super nice touch was allowing a local farmer to come in and sell us some fresh strawberries. Really showed us some community spirit.
We had a great experience in great waitress
I am not a pazolli fan but I will tell you that their pazolli was absolutely amazing and the broth was incredibly flavourful. The owner and her son we're both super super sweet definitely a place to come back to and if I ever need a soup I will consider this again
Nice and quick service, just stopped by for chips and salsa. Mediocre. Salsa was ok, not spicy if you're looking for that, chips were not hot, nor warm, and was extremely hard. Not fresh at all. Not what I was expecting for just chips/salsa. Priced reasonably...
I love the food here ! It’s probably the best Mexican restaurant,IMO, around here. Their salsa is pretty amazing as well.
Food was hit and very tasty will be going back
We had a party of 6. We were told the table would be ready in 5 minutes. It was! Our waiter did a great job taking care of us. The food was good and we had enough to have another meal the next day. This was my second experience at this restaurant and look forward to eating there again when I am in the area.
I got there a bit on the early side and was seated right away. They brought out delicious salsa warm chips and warm bean dip. It was all delicious. It was my favorite salsa in a few years and the bean dip was probably tied for the best I have ever had. I was alone but finished off all of it. I got the California burrito with steak. First off it was huge. I couldn't finish it. Second it was delicious. The steak was amazing. The fries in it were just a little crispy so it made for a really good bite. Just a great burrito. I also ordered the pork tamale. It was good not great good. I would get it again for sure but pretty typical good tamale. The service was pretty on top of things they made sure I was taken care of. Everyone was very nice. The atmosphere was typical nothing would stand out. Overall great experience I very much recommend.
Omg, the food is delicious. Highly recommend this place
Authentic, down home Mexican food. Chips served with their award winning Salsa and also with refried beans. Couldn’t decide which I liked best, so ate both. My meal came quickly; I asked if they had any hotter sauce. She returned with their hottest salsa, basically the salsa I had before with more chilis in it. Poured the whole container over my food. Very good and with some respectable spicy fire! As they do serve breakfast items, I’ll be back to enjoy those also!
Old Town Mexican is the best around! Their beans are unlike any other restaurants and it adds so much more to their food. The staff is always so kind, welcoming, and attentive. Their food is fantastic!
Amazing food and such a great price.
Very good food, tasty salsa!
It is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Orcutt. They make my special taco salad exactly how I want it and with great presentation,

We came from out of state and enjoyed a pleasant lunch with local family members. The chips and dip were good, my special order chimichanga with a side of grilled onions and a side of lettuce was deliciously amazing!!! Our waitress was the best part of the whole meal! She played hostess and seated each customer, she answered phones, and she waitressed most of the tables during a very busy lunch WITH a smile.
This is our local home town go to Mexican restaurant we have not been disappointed at any time. I highly recommend this restaurant it's family owned and I prefer to support local businesses when I find a great one.
It's been a long time since my prior visit, but this time the food was good and the wait staff went out of their way to make sure we were well taken care of.

Top 3 salsas I've had in my life! Chips are bomb and the complimentary beans are amazing too! We waited for 15 mins after they gave us the check before we went up to the empty cashier upfront to see if that's where we need to pay. A simple remark to tell us where to pay would help. Great place!
The food and service is excellent. Foods rich in traditional flavor. Salsa so good we ordered a container to go home with us. Really, one of the best Mexican food experiences we have enjoyed. The restaurant and style are a little tired and could use an update. But it's all about the food!
Started off with complimentary bean dip and salsa both were good. The salsa was a little Americanized but still good. The bean dip was amazing. Got the carne asada meal which was so good. The meat was crisp to perfection; A+. Looking forward to my next meal here
I get that it's in old town but it could use a revamp. Service was delightful and the food was perfectly prepared and priced. I look forward to going back
We were a small group who started out for breakfast at a popular breakfast place in Orcutt, but the wait was too long. The Cafe had plenty of seating and was was not busy. We had mostly breakfast items but also some of the traditional Meican food items. There was plenty of food, decently flavored and priced reasonably. It's a family owned business with a large selection of menu items. Will visit again.
Good place for classic Mexican fare. The bean dip and salsa are fantastic and the prices are decent for a sit-down restaurant. I love the chimichamga here! Service is prompt and friendly.

The service was not good never got a refill on chips and salsa , they ran out their excuse. Was making more never saw them food order was wrong and I never got a refill on my water. I spent 72.00 and walk out hungry and thirsty. They need to hire more or better service help.
Food has always been tasty, but sometimes the service is really slow. I feel bad when there's a full house and the waitress is trying her best to get around to everyone. This last trip, we waited 20 minutes after eating to just get the bill.
Food was less than decent and 4 out of 5 in our party couldn't finish their meals which was super greasy, parts were not fully cook. However, server's attention was unequivocally superior and professional.
The refried beans were delicious. The beef, chicken, & shrimp in the fajitas were way over cooked, dry & and rubbery, while the veggies were more steamed than grilled. No char whatsoever. The seasoning was the saving grace. Super friendly server.
We decided to come try this new place. This was my wife's suggestion. She heard about a fajitas plater and was looking forward to trying it, I decided to try out the menudo. For my menudo, all I have to say is that it lacks flavor, and the meat was too soft. I had a horchata drink, fyi no refill for that. My wife stated that her food was all right. So I assume it was not what she was looking for. So if you want to come try roll the dice. For me I will stay with my favorite.
Overall, it wasn't a horrible place. Everything was okay. I decided on dinner here one night and ended up ordering a shrimp cocktail and a chicken quesadilla. First off, the order took quite a bit of time, in my opinion, considering. But, the cocktail was lacking something, I also think the imitation crab didn't need to be shredded to that degree. The crab pieces were so tiny. It made the cocktail kinda ehh. The quesadilla was too plain for my taste. It needed some more love. I will say, customer service was good. The host was very friendly and shared her recommendations as she saw fit.

We done here probably on 6-7 times a Year. I don’t like to post bad review but completely upset how we were handled. Came in to place a to go order. The waitress asks if we are dining in, tell her no we need to place a take out order. She said so not dining in. Repeated no placing an order to take out. She said well I’m going to take care of them and grabs a family behind us to help them. Seriously could have been handled differently. Needless to say we left I guess only get service if you eat there.
We have only ordered takeout and regarding their carne asada plate. The meat quality is very inconsistent. Sometimes, it's edible other times it's as if you're eating rubber. They need to purchase better quality carne asada meat if they want people to order it.
Ordered Pozole. Salt Salty salty!! Meat was hard squares. I think they poured it out of a can! Half of the restaurant was dark and there was annoying dinging from kitchen.

I live close by and have ordered there good frequently. We've always enjoyed it. They just did another huge price hike though and now we cannot justify spending so much money to feed our family of 3.
We have been to Old Town Mexican Cafe several times. The food is hit and miss, the portions vary from one time to another. I have had rotten lettuce served on take out orders. We have had food left out of take out orders. Our take out was even taken by another customer, so we had to wait for another order to be prepared. We have called in orders, asked to hold and the young girl that answered the phone screamed across the restaurant for someone to get her something. Another instance, my hubby was very unhappy with his Mexican pizza. The tortillas were very hard, not very many toppings, except cheese. We are tired of spending good money on sub par food. I would rather drive 30 miles to Pismo for excellent food. We are done giving Old Town Mexican Cafe the benefit of the doubt.
Usually good but the steak fajita were terrible the other day. chewy lowest grade beef you could find , the veggies were mostly onions. Not cool.
The service was terrible (very slow). We waited for 20 minutes after we were sat down for our drinks, chips & salsa. Then we waited for another 20-30 minutes for our waitress to come back and see if we wanted more Chips & salsa or refills on our empty drinks. Food was ok but our entrees were warm not hot. Maybe they were having a bad night. On the bright side the salsa was great and they also served beans & cheese which was good.
Been here a couple of times for dine-in. Food has always been decent and service always good. This time I ordered DoorDash. They packed the menudos in a styrofoam container and just placed it in a plastic t-shirt bag. When the Dasher dropped off the order, my son picked it up and the soup leaked out all over the bag. The dasher looked at me and said my son caused the spill. When I open the bag, the lid was cracked. I'm hoping the owner of this restaurant looks at this review and stop using styrofoam for hot soups.

Make sure when you order and pick it up that everything‘s there!! We have ordered so many times the same meal, they asked the salad dressing that we want, & ALWAYS forget to pack the salad! We have given too many chances! I guess it’s time to pick a new restaurant. This is ridiculous!

Used to love this place, came in at 1115 am, there we re 6 diners, I ordered, got my ice tea, and chips and salsa, at 1150 am I found the waitress and said what do I owe you for the ice tea, she said you want to pay your bill, I said I want to pay for my ice tea, I NEVER GOT MY FOOD, I had to be somewhere at noon, very disappointed today
More interested in cutting losses than giving what a customer ordered. I ordered the steak and shrimp fajitas and a different steak and shrimp dish came out. They took it back to remake but used the old steak and shrimp. It tasted terrible. I don't trust eating here with how they tried to dupe me.
We were dining in and had to walk out. Kitchen served everyone who came after us. Then the waitress lies and says the shrimp takes extra long to grill? They lost the order or choose to serve others before us. Very disappointed with the unprofessional attitude and service. Salsa not that good, believe me.
That was the crappiest mexican dinner I have ever had, the salad was store bought out of a bag so were the chips. The little taco was cold and dried up, probably left over from lunch and the little flat frozen enchilada was far from resturant quality and was heated in a micro that warped the bottom of the styrofoam box. There were no utensiles or napkins, what a total waste of money, its sad that places like this are still in business. I did pick up and a server never did come out, they put your bag on a shelf by the door. Id give a zero star if I could
Very Disappointed! I eat here at least once a week and take friends and family with me, I don't know what happened but we've always been able to set down anywhere but not today and the bean dip and chips they didn't give us much and when we asked for more they wanted to charge us more money which they would always ask if we wanted more with no extra charge, so we said okay go ahead and bring us more and we would pay and we never received any it was just a bad experience and for being local's in the Community it made for a bad dinning experience we spent the time eating and talking about what Mexican food restaurant's in town we could start going to besides Old Town Mexican Restaurant
The food was absolutely disgusting. I ordered chips and guacamole. The guacamole was just filled with onions that's all you tasted. The crispy taco was just filled with grease. The refried beans was excellent great flavor. I would definitely not go back. I thought it was going to be really good.
Our server had zero personality. Acted like she didn't want to be here. Ordered deep fried shrimp tacos and received grilled shrimp tacos instead. Shrimp was too chewy and I couldn't even eat them. The rice was incredibly salty and tasted awful. The only thing that was decent was the chips, salsa, and beans they served at the beginning of the meal. Now I remember why we haven't eaten here is so long. We won't be back. As we paid for this mess of a meal we were asked if we enjoyed our meal. I said no and the cashier asked why and as I explained about the rice and shrimp, she clearly wasn't interested in hearing what I had to say. When I told her that I ordered the deep fried shrimp she told me that they don't serve that anymore. Wish our terrible server would have told me that ahead of time, but she obviously has no clue what she's doing.
Wanted to try a local spot in town but staff handled the situation horribly. Long story short, we found hair in our burrito and let the server know. ”Ok, I can let the manager know”..end of story. Wow, Thanks?

Was looking forward to flan for dessert. They placed the flan in front of me. 2nd bite, my mouth started bleeding and spit out glass shards. Very painful. I flagged down who I believe was the Owner or Manager who appeared unconcerned that I was bleeding profusely still spitting out glass shards. Her response was "oh, they broke a glass in the back". She gave me a bandaid be cause the glass shards cut my fingers while trying to pull out of mouth. Needless to say, I will never return and encourage my family and friends to stay away. I was also worried that my GI tract could end up butchered if I swallowed glass in the first bite. The lack of concern that the Staff showed is proof they don't care and are very careless in the back without giving thought to food safety and the safety of their Customers. My biggest regret is not reporting to the Health Dept. Another regret is choosing to dine there in the first place.
