Opinions de Low Desert Modern Mexican Palm Springs
After a few days visiting Palm Springs, I was in search for a locals dinner spot in a neighborhood away from the downtown area. I’m so glad I found Low Desert / Modern Mexican! The restaurant was cute and simple. We were greeted and seated quickly - they were busy the entire time we were there, and seemed short staffed. Even so, the service was decent. I had a shrimp and carnitas street taco and my husband had the fish low desert taco. We shared a side of rice and beans and the corn and Brussels sprouts starter. The food was delicious! My two tacos were yummy - I especially loved the shrimp taco. The corn starter dish was soooo good. My husband was highly skeptical about ordering it, but he also loved it. The rice and beans were a highlight of the meal. My husband liked his taco, but was disappointed in the size of the taco, given it was 3 times the price of a street taco, and not much bigger. It did have a lot of yummy ingredients. I recommend getting 3 of the delicious street tacos for the price of one low desert taco. Otherwise the prices were very reasonable and I enthusiastically recommend Low Desert / Modern Mexican. I am glad I searched for something away from the touristy area of PS and found this gem!
yes. affirmative bro. the beans are 🔥 beans. corn and Brussel dish hecks ya. 🔥 corn. 🐟 taco yeah pretty good. would go back for the fire beans though. ⭐️ proper legit and super noms. ⭐️ short staffed when we there but garçons held their own, no guff. 10/10 score for mex foodies nerds and tesla drivers oooofffff 🤦♂️ - love this place, you will too. safe.
Really yummy food!! Loved the Low Desert salad with chicken and sub red onion for beets. Super scrumptious. Getting our check was pretty slow but everything else about our service was great. We’re coming back for the second day in a row!!
This place has already been open for 3 ys in the Smoketree mall, and tonight was the first time we’ve eaten here. So good! The outdoor dining area is very comfortable w overhead fans. Started w the carne asada street tacos, which had a good deal of meat in it! Then had the low desert salad with shrimp and with chicken. Very filling w the protein, and unusual w its mix if fennel, lentils, sweet potato, beets, and spinach! Attentive service, too! Will be back to try more tacos again!
Don’t let the strip mall appearance scare you away, this is a awesome hidden gem. They have an amazing happy hour everyday (2-5pm) that includes their street tacos and nachos. I would post a picture but ate it too fast! My wife is a vegetarian/ pescatarian and she said the vegetarian tacos were special and she’s picky about her tacos. Love their options here and Francisco (our server) handled our order perfectly.
Food was excellent as it was my previous visit. The drinks are yummy (I had the mango margarita) and I tried 3 different street tacos which were all amazing. I had the Carnitas, Carne ASADA, and my absolute favorite here, the Al Pastor, of which I had two tacos. If you like good Mexican fare and excellent drinks, you should definitely check this place out.
A delightful experience for lunch. The Pastor Torta was delicious, packed with ingredients, flavor and yumminess. The Carnitas Tacos were packed with meat. The staff was welcoming and attentive. A great place in a great location. A must try.
We went for happy hour drinks and it was fantastic. Such friendly staff and fabulous margaritas. We also had chips and salsa which were homemade and delicious.
Great happy hour - delicious vegetarian taco! Variety of drinks and food that paired with great service will keep you coming back for their 2p-5p daily happy hour.
Amazing tacos, salsa, apps, everything! The service is phenomenal, including several visits by the owner. Water came immediately with the silverware and menus. Chips and salsa were fresh and fast. The appetizer came quickly after with separate plates for sharing. We tried the Brussels sprouts mixed with Mexican corn and cotija cheese. It is one of the best experiences I’ve ever had trying something new. I’ll definitely have it again and again. I had a shrimp taco and Al Pastor, both were bright and tasty, no muddled flavors. Paying is a breeze with the QR code on the bill. We’ll be back!
This restaurant has quickly become our favorite place for Tex-mex cuisine in Palm Springs. They have a really diverse menu that includes multiple vegetarian and vegan options, which is perfect for me and my wife. The food not only looks amazing, but it is very delicious and satisfying with large portions and plenty of sides. We especially love their burritos and enchiladas, but they also have great tacos, salads, quesadillas, etc. We have always had good service. We like sitting on their covered patio, but they also have good indoor seating and seating at the bar. Happy hour is recommended (2-5 PM) for inexpensive drinks and their happy hour menu.

Stopped in for happy hour with my boys & the food was delicious! Most of their food was gluten free - Celiac friendly. Juan was super friendly and food was quick. Would go back!
Friendly service, lots of appealing choices, very fresh and beautifully presented. The street tacos were more filling than I expected. I could live on that brussel sprout-corn-jalapeño mayo dish.
Small restaurant with outside sitting area. Nice waiter / boss and the tacos were good. Not the best I ever had but solid. Good allergen knowledge.

Delicious Pozole, carnitas and enchiladas! Wonderful service and a charming atmosphere!
Recently heard about this new spot and wanted to give it a try since it’s close to our house, and you don’t have to hassle with going downtown. I would like to say the environment is really friendly, everyone greats you when you come in, get you seated quickly. The presentation and quality of the food was incredible! The chef really took their time crafting amazing layouts and flavors. Highly recommend the margaritas. For food I recommend to start with the zucchini bites! If you like spicy I recommend the Chile Gueritos! It’s not overwhelming, but perfect amount of hot! We also had the Huaraches, yummy!! Ended the night with dessert! Churro Cheese Cake, with caramel drizzle 😋 Incredible spot! This was their third day open and they killed it! We will be coming back!
I visited Low Desert Modern Mexican restaurant again and was impressed by the small plates and starters. The shredded Brussels and tacos were particularly delicious and the casual and relaxed atmosphere made for a wonderful dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a casual and flavorful meal in Palm Springs.”
Outstanding Mexican food in a casual setting. Prompt and friendly service helps distinguish this unassuming strip-mall restaurant, but the food is the star. Fantastic tacos, life-altering enchiladas, and delicious drinks make this a don't-miss choice.
Decent size portions. Food was relatively reasonably priced. Taste was ok. Big outside patio and ample indoor dining room too. So, atmosphere, if you speak Spanish you might dig the music, or, if modest, you might not. Most customers will dig the rhythm and beat. Having said all this, the music is in the background and not overpowering. Just couldn’t help sharing about it because it was funny. Restaurant is located in the middle courtyard of a strip mall away from highway noise. Plenty of parking though we rode bikes there.
Low Desert is a little hard to find. It’s tucked in the Smoke Tree mall. We’re so happy to have found this little gem. Very laid back, with very friendly staff. Unique twist on some great Mexican food. Tacos are wonderful! I highly recommend ordering Cauliflower Corn Mix from the starter menu. Our waiter warned us that it is addicting. He wasn’t lying!
Our new favorite restaurant in palm springs. Super nice, efficient and attentive waiter. And the food is amazing!! So tasty.... great vegan and vegetarian options, and not your boring run of the mill. Had the best salad ever in the united states... sweet potatoes, lentils, fennel, spinach, beats, carrots, all finely sliced julienne style, with cilantro dressing. Can.t wait to try the many other items on the menu that were tempting.
This Mexican place is in a nondescript mall but the food and service are 5 stars. It’s the best Mexican food I’ve had in Palm Springs and I’ve tried a couple recommended by locals. I’m from NYC and say this place is far superior. It doesn’t look as good as its food but put that aside. It is very comfortable eating here and if you’re the least bit adventurous you’ll like it. The food is not your typical Mexican fare but, as they say, modern Mexican. I had the pozole soup which was a little spicey but very tasty and the grilled tomatoes with children. Even better! I’ll post a couple of photos but you should go. It’s great to find out of the way spots like this one that my wife stumbled upon while walking our dog and he was welcome too to the outside portion of the restaurant!
This was the one restaurant that we visited twice on our trip to Palm Springs. Despite the unassuming strip mall setting, it has a really cool ambience and outdoor patio. The food was excellent (try the birria tacos), the prices were reasonable, and the drinks were very good. Definitely our favorite restaurant we visited in PS!
Low Desert is an informal - and delicious! - restaurant in the Smoketree Mall in South Palm Springs. The food is terrific. Unusually tasty street tacos, wonderful soup (I had albondiga soup last night), salsa!, chips! Guacamole! There is lovely comfortable seating in, both, an outdoor patio and inside the restaurant. The service people are all Coachella Valley locals, and the manager, Paul, is extremely helpful and fun! It's become a regular drop-in kind of place for us when we want excellent food at a great price. Recommended highly.
Incredible tacos! The service was a bit slow, but ultimately it added to an overall chill & relaxed vibe. The food was awesome, and it’s a great place to enjoy some tasty bites on a Saturday afternoon.

We had a great late lunch/early dinner here! I ordered a few street tacos and my husband got the enchiladas, we shared chips guacamole and salsa, plus the churro cheesecake. Our server Juan was great too, very attentive and friendly 😊 Everything was so good, I highly recommend stopping by!!!

I cannot say enough good things about Low Desert. First of all, there’s something for everybody on the menu. Had an amazing vegan enchilada where they swapped out the dairy cheese for vegan cheese. The flavors were delicious, and you get a side of the most delicious cilantro rice and a side of beans to go with it. The carnivores were equally happy with their food choices. And the vegetarians in our party were happy as well! We even went back with more people for lunch the next day . Secondly, the staff could not be nicer and so attentive! Forget the Mexican restaurant across the street in saguaro hotel which we found bland and boring. Do yourself a favor and find this great little restaurant in the strip mall over by the Ralph’s. We sat outside and it was as charming as could be!
I had the most amazing lunch this past Saturday at Los Desert Modern Mexican. I decided to try a vegetarian option (I usually go for the fish tacos), and it was outstanding! Our server recommended the Kale Salad with couscous, green apple, jicama, pomegranate, avocado, and red onion, topped with a blueberry dressing — and suggested pairing it with their Camion Margarita. Truly one of the best meals I’ve had in the valley — every flavor complemented the next perfectly. I was dining with a large group, and everyone enjoyed their dishes. A big thank-you to the entire staff for their excellent service and for making us feel special. I’ll definitely be back!
Low Desert is in a nice plaza in Palm Springs. We stopped here for lunch. Their clearly labelled veg options got our attention. Shared between two people. We were satisfied but not full at the end. For starters we got - Brussel sprouts corn mix (3/5)- I found this idea unique. The taste was good. I would have loved it if it wasn't dripping in oil. Zucchini bites (3.5/5) - Very simple. The zuchinni was nicely cooked, eliminating any raw flavors it may have, paired with cheese sauce and pineapple sauce (couldn't taste any pineapple), along with cabbage onion salsa. Worth a try. Tofu Enchiladas (3/5)- The taste profile was great. Everything tasted healthy. However I only got one tiny bite of tofu and so did my partner, safe to say the serving wasn't whole hearted. There was probably one piece of each veggie mentioned on the menu in there, which is disappointing. This place might still be worth giving a try!
I wanted to love this place but the service was poor for a mid-week late lunch and the food did not make up for it. We waited a few minutes to be seated, despite no one in line to get in and mostly open seating, and then another ten minutes before they came to check on us. They didn't bring us water until after they brought our food, even though it was 90° outside and we were on the patio. Then they brought the wrong drink, which they fixed after we requested, and the tacos did not make it better as they were a little bland. The salad was very delicious though!
