Opinions de Gravity Bistro and Wine Bar Palo Alto
Amazing food, nice wine menu. Service was slow and erroneous. The waiter who was attending to us keep breaking glasses and cleaning them up, which is something I don't want to judge, but because of that the rest of the service really suffered. They also got is some wrong order and after letting them know seemed surprised we had even ordered something different in the first place. But they checked their notes and apologized. However we thought the food was good and overall it's a nice place.
Nice spot to relax and chat after dinner. Service and ambiance were great.
Great experience. Place is cosy and prices are very good for the quality you're getting.
Tasty food with great atmosphere and service. Raviole was well plated and delicious.
Always a pleasure: Gravity has outstanding food, a great wine selection, a trendier downstairs and one of the coziest, most intimate settings upstairs.
Great cocktails, fair price, delicious cheese plate, and nice atmosphere (not too loud)
Great serendipitous find through the Places app while we were driving through downtown PA looking for a place to enjoy some wine. We tried a couple of tasting flights with the cheese plate and scrumptious chocolate pot de creme. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. It wasn't too crowded there, which we prefer. They seemed truly enthusiastic as they told us about the wines, beers, and food. It was pricey, but we felt like it was worth it if you take everything into account. The next day we brought our friends and had a delicious dinner. They had just gotten their liquor license but I stuck with wine.
Went here on a Friday evening, had a wonderful dinner and cocktails. Wine and cocktails list was delightfully expansive. Kent was our server and was fantastic company for our meal. I'm sure we will be back again- a gem in Silicon valley.
Delicious food but portions are European. And they're open late. Had the beef tartare with quail egg appetizer and it was pretty awesome for raw meat. The braised beef short rib was a bit smaller than I expected, but the duck confit was a good size. The wait staff is great - fast, helpful. They gave me a free appetizer when they noticed I was waiting a while for the rest of my party. And they'll give a lot of advice on the wine.
Gravity is responsible for what was probably my most enjoyable meal on my last trip to the area. Delicious food that was well prepared with a good selection of drinks. I'll probably try to end up here again the next time I fly in.
Amazingly expansive menu offering Californian Italian cuisine. I like that they offer several types of vegetables as sides. Service was very attentive and prices reasonable for this location. Highly recommended!
The food was all delicious. The wines that they suggested were very good, though the Riesling didn't work well with the Grand Marnier Creme Brulee. The raw oysters were small but tasty and the baked ones were amazing. We had the Scallops and Butternut Squash Ravioli and the portions were a bit small for an entree (only 3 of each came on the plates.) That being said, every bite had an accompanying roll of the eyes and an audible "Mmmmmmmm." +1 on the truffle fries. The ketchup sat untouched. Given the portion size, expect that everyone will be able to have an individual appetizer, a shared appetizer, bread, an entree, and dessert...if you plan on leaving with a full stomach. That, or leave lots of room for after dinner drinks. Either way, expect $100/person. I definitely recommend it if it is within your budget as the taste and the presentation were on point.
I LOVE THIS PLACE. Great selection of wines, awesome specialty drinks. Such a cool vibe- it's trendy but not overwhelming. It doesnt get over crowded and you can actually hear your friends.
Gravity isn't well known, so it's usually not too crowded, though I still tend to make reservations anyway, since there's no cost involved. I have lived in Palo Alto for about a year, and I'm just a few blocks away, and Gravity is hands down my favorite restaurant in Palo Alto. The food is food, wine, and service are all top notch!
We came get only for a drink but I was surprised with an excellent food. Really great relaxed place to go and you won't be chocked by prices that are really affordable for what we get. Will certainly return
Great wine, nice cocktails, and friendly staff. This place is rarely packed and always has a modern, upscale ambiance.
Consistently a great place to go with friends for some excellent food and wine in a lively atmosphere. I’ve been going to Gravity for years and never had a bad outing there yet.
I keep finding myself back at Gravity. It's like it pulls me in. They have good cocktails (I like the Sazerac), good wine, and good food. I usually get the burrata and a small portion of pasta.
This place was amazing!!! The food was really good but the portions were a little small. The highlight of our evening was the whiskey sour that the bartender Brendan made us! Absolutely incredible! My wife and i will be returning often because Brendan gave us a night we wont soon forget. I highly recommend going in to try his amazing cocktails and if you're lucky he may tell you a story you will never forget! Great job Brendan and great job gravity!
Delightful place in Palo Alto. Excellent food, good wine selection and even better selection of whiskey! Don't forget to try their truffle fries! The service is beyond excellent - the staff are friendly and helpful. And of course if you're lucky enough to get the attention of Robert - your experience will be the better because of him!
I've been here several times for drinks (a good post up while you wait for the Caltrain), but we got food for the first time here recently. Same friendly and attentive service, but just an incredible cheese plate and salad. But seriously go, get a drink, chat with the wonderful bartender, and find one of the most pleasant places to pass and hour in downtown Palo Alto
Great food price point is on the high side. Cocktails are fantastic and nice staff.
The atmosphere was great and the wine too but the food was average and the dishes were small.
Nice staff and a well executed menu. Anywhere else this would be expensive, but for the area - not bad value at all.
Came here for wine night . We were served attentively and the menu had an impressive selection of tapas and entrees. I didn't try any entrees this time, but a tentative glance at the pastas looked delicious. Cheese and wine was good, as were some other hors d'oeuvres and the truffle fries. Nice ambience too. Wasn't too packed on a Wednesday evening.
The Filet & Frite is awesome, as is the bruschetta. Other dishes are nice but sometimes underwhelming. Service is very good. Friendly, professional, and knowledgeable, but not pretentious or pushy. Good range of beer and wine, but it rotates a bit, not always for the better. Only a few cocktails.
A pretty good experience for my first time at the restaurant and my first time in Palo Alto. Pros: Excellent service "normal" priced food average($25) and drinks/cocktails ($10+) - compared to SF Tasty and favorable Good for groups Lots of seating Good Sangria Rojo Can go to just the bar Cons: Smells sort of bad in there No fresh air Small portions- my large that I shared was the same size as the small I would recommend people to go there if they like French/Italian food.
Wine list isn't as interesting or extensive as I would have expected. The onion soup was very tasty and the rest of our meal was good though not great. But it's worth checking out!
Gravity is just what you might expect for a restaurant bar in downtown Palo Alto. This is a perfect spot to meet an acquaintance or bring a date to an impressive meal without coming off as excessive. The meals are appropriately portioned and though you might pay a little more the food delivers in a great way. I recommend Gravity for those slightly special occasions where a local bar won't do it and you're looking for upscale but not over the top.
Best cocktails in downtown Palo Alto. Happy Hour is definitely worth checking out (4-6pm) with signature cocktails, wine, beers, and appetizers that are all worth trying. Service is usually pretty good though there has been a couple times we were disappointed.
Great for some late night dining after a long day at the office. Excellent beer choices. The menu for food is solid, though I'd recommend sticking more with lots of appetizers instead of entrees.
Pros: Friendly service, innovative wine list, tasty deserts. Cons: High prices. tiny portions, $12 for a hotdog is not acceptable. $18 for spaghetti and tomato sauce. I think it was $14 for a hamburger. Fries are extra. One bottle of wine was spoiled due to heat. I'll give them credit for the variety on the wine list. I mean when is the last time you saw a bottle of wine from Jordan?. But at the end of the day the food here is a complete waste of money. You are better off getting a slice of pizza down the street.
One of my favorite bistros. Good food with a good selection of wines and drinks. Prices aren't too bad for the area. Great ambiance with good service. Definitely worth a visit.
The food was very good, with dishes that were gluten free as well as vegetarian and more typical meat and dairy dishes. Really tasty and well prepared, with an attentive and knowledgeable wait staff. Really enjoyed our meal.
Took a good while to get seated and the server didn't come around a lot, but the food and drinks were absolutely wonderful. The budino is one of the best desserts I've ever had, to date.
A decent selection of wines. Yummy food. All in a subdued most contemporarish decide. Not super romantic, but it doesn't have to be.
Good cocktails and food. Some hits and some misses, but overall one of the better places in Palo Alto to get a cocktail.
Had a team dinner here. Good service, fantastic environment. The food is nice but not my type ;)
Great place for dates. Great wine list and nice late night atmosphere. A bit on the expensive side.
Always a great time here. Get the truffle fries! Downstairs can be a bit loud especially around happy hour.
The Good: The bread was incredible. It had an almost perfect combination of sweet and salty. Also, the service is great. Our waiter was quick to refill waters and extremely friendly. The Bad: The portions are extremely small. One person managed to finish his pasta in 45 seconds. Also, my pasta was overcooked. One bite of the noodles and it was evident. The Ugly: It’s very expensive for what you get. Two dollar signs is just objectively false. I can only imagine what the costs becomes once you order drinks. You better make sure your wallet is full before you stop by.
Food was good. Dessert was delicious. Steak was cooked to medium even though I'd asked for medium rare, but was still good. Overall it was ok.
Steak tartar with a quail egg is so good. Good wine and spirits list. Nice vibe. Service can be hit or miss.
Food was good, but service was mediocre - they just forgot about multiple orders for our big party. Some food I ordered just simply never came.
It's an ok place. The food was decent, the wine was pretty good and the service was ok. The atmosphere was a little too formal in my opinion, especially given we came in pretty late. The selection of items on the menu was a bit small and prices were a little high.
Good food, nice and efficient service, well priced menu items (other places of the same kind would probably sell the same entrees for $10 more). Only issue is you almost need ear plugs in that restaurant - we ate upstairs and the room was unbelievably loud - reminded me of another restaurant owned by the same owner (Reposado in Palo Alto as well).
Food is really not that good. We tried couple of dishes and it wasn't great. My dish came a little bit cold even! The Desert however is awesome! I had the hot Chocolate desert with Ice Cream and it was awesome! I wouldn't recommend going there if you're going for food though.
Currently sipping on the Berry Basil Sour cocktail and I think it tastes alright. Wish they had mojitos here. This is not a bar to really get turnt up at. I also tried the No-Groni drink with elderberry in it and personally I am not the most impressed with their drinks. They are just okay. I am going to try more places and find a favorite bar eventually but for now I am still looking haha.
Great quality meals! However, very pricey and tiny portions - I had to leave partially hungry and I am not a big eater.
I really wanted to like this place, but I was disappointed. The space is very modern. It would be nicer if it wasn't so bright. Came here on a Friday night with the bf. The wine list is large but when we asked the server questions about specific ones (no descriptions on the wines), he was clueless. He didn't even know if it the French wine we asked about was red or white. We got the cheese platter with 3 cheese and it came with a few pieces of crostini. We asked for more crostini to go with the cheese and what was brought to us was stale and hard as brick. It was clear that the server was new because he didn't really know what he was doing. After the cheese plate, he brought us new utensils for our dinner (steak knife). He asked if he should clear the old utensils and I said I wanted to keep my knife for the remainder of the cheese. He said "oh I'll just take it." which was weird because I specifically said I wanted to keep it. He would re-fill our water, but forget to pour us more wine. Bf got the filet and frites. The frites were bad! The potato was undercooked. I've never hated fries in my life and I really hated these fries. The only saving grace was that we got a carafe of Syrah that was really good and was inexpensive. I'm willing to give this place another try but it was definitely one of my most disappointed experience in downtown Palo Alto.
