Enjoyed a wonderful original breakfast at this cute restaurant. Had dishes for vegans and non vegan eaters. I enjoyed the Salmon Benedict. Poached eggs were perfectly runny. Hash browns complemented the dish. Coffee was good and refills were offered.
We had a party of four for breakfast and we all were very pleased with the food. The staff was very nice and the service was excellent! I would recommend this restaurant for breakfast. They had a variety of foods for everyone including gluten free stuff. The veggie scramble and blueberry coffee cake was amazing. It was also very reasonably priced..about $12.00 - $14.00 per meal.
Literally the most epic eggs Benedict I've ever had! ( Goble til you wobble): smoked turkey, brie, cranberry sauce, rosemary hollandaise. The coffee cake is not to be missed!!!
Loved their mountain view omelette! Great brunch place in the Bay Area! Loved their coffee cake as well. Must try restaurant!
I often visit my daughter in Santa Cruz and when I do, I often mention what a shame it is that Hobee’s isn’t there anymore. I have changed my diet over the years, gotten healthier, lost weight, but I still wax nostalgic over that towering coffee cake topped with a big round scoop of butter. So when I found myself in Palo Alto, where Hobee’s still lives, with the family, I took them for brunch, hoping the coffee cake would live up to my descriptions. Mind you, it’s been 33 years since my Santa Cruz days. Happily, the brunch was great (I had one of the “bene’s”) and the coffee cake is just as big, fluffy, moist and yummy as I remember. And yes, still a big ol’ scoop of butter. I did not consider this meal to be at odds with my diet, as coffee cake is healthy for the soul.
I was in town for a couple of meetings and needed to find breakfast near my hotel. Walked down the street a little ways and found this Hobee's It had a solid offering of the usual breakfast foods like omlets, hash browns, etc.. and had an option for blueberry coffee cake as a side. Hadn't seen that at any places on the east coast so I figured I'd tried a little piece of that instead of toast with my eggs. The piece I got was anything but little!!! It was a little less sweet then I was anticipating for a coffee cake, but I'm glad it was because I wouldn't have been able to eat as much as I did. Though I have to be honest I couldn't finish it all so asked for a to go box. It was to big for the to go box, lol Needless to say, I went back the following morning for breakfast again and will visit when ever I'm staying in that area for work again. (Sorry for the picture of a half eaten coffee cake. Just wanted to show it for scale next to the to go container. As I was slowly down I started eating the big blueberries on the sides which gave it the look it has, lol )
Loved Hobee's! We arrived with a good-sized party and waited no more than five minutes to be sat. Our server was friendly and attentive. The portions were big and fairly priced for how much food you get. We were all happy with our meals, but the highlight was definitely their famous blueberry coffeecake!! I saved mine for the next day, and it was still incredible!! We will be returning time and time again when visiting Palo Alto.
Love this place. Brunch was perfect, I ordered the salmon Bennie with hash browns and it was delicious. Great vibes and the waiters were friendly. Perfect place to get eat homemade meals if you’re like me new in town and away from home.
Yum! Hobbies has been around for decades, and it never lets me down. The service in Palo Alto was great! This was my first time at this location. It’s a busy Sunday morning, but my tea stayed filled and the server paid attention to us and got our order correct (there were some modifications) The cinnamon orange tea is D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S!
Enjoyed my normal granola with bananas and iced cinnamon tea…the tea is the best anywhere! Service was amazing (best I’ve had in quite awhile)…haven’t been to this Hobee’s in years…will definitely be back. They have indoor and a nice covered area outside for dining. Parking can be tough, so that you’re aware.
Great place for breakfast. Good menu options. Fresh tasting food. I passed on the Coffeecake this time and ate the eggs & pancakes. Everything I have had here is plus. The service stands out with an above and beyond attitude. Cool Cali vibes place.
This place rocks. Great breakfast, overflowing bowls of fruit, good coffee and warm service. Everything you want in a breakfast spot and more. Their homemade hot sauce is great on omelets. Also the coffee cake they give you is bigger than your head. There should be a health warning to split this among the family.
Hobee's blueberry coffee cake, nuff said. I love Hobee's and all of the people working here are so friendly. The weekend brunch scene is so lively, with so much energy. Definitely put your name in early because there will be a wait. No wonder too, because the food is so good. I love their scrambles with coffee cake. I don't really get anything other than that when I come. Great for families and kids. Their special seasoned salt is amazing.
Hobee's is my absolute favorite place for breakfast. The breakfast quesadilla, breakfast burrito, blueberry lemon ricotta pancakes, and chilli are delicious. Also get a Hobee's iced tea and coffee cake. You won't be sorry. If you eat at the Palo Alto location on the weekends, ask to sit in Jose's section. He's the best!!!!
First timer here-- Everything from the service, staff, to the food was DELICIOUS 😋 It took me a while to decide what to get, but decided on the "Mountain View" omelet. Absolutely cooked and seasoned to perfection. The OJ seems to be fresh made, so that's a huge plus! There's a coffee cake on the meñu that seems to be popular (I didn't get),but def will return just for that 😉 Thank you for a yummy experience!
I had a wonderful experience at Hobee's! The service was friendly, and the food was delicious. Their signature blueberry coffee cake was a standout—light, moist, and full of flavor. The menu has a great selection of breakfast and lunch options, all made with fresh ingredients. The cozy atmosphere made for a relaxing meal, and the staff was attentive without being overbearing. I’ll definitely be back!
Genuine breakfast place! Everything was great except it was hard to reach for my server.
We love Hobees! Still tasty after all these years. Coffeecake to live for, cinnamon tea to clean your palate. We come whenever we are in the area.
Hobee’s is our family’s go to breakfast place for almost 50 years. This is a place that not only serves consistently delicious meals (you will find some favorites for life!) but also treats their employees with respect. We love seeing the familiar faces over the years and getting to know those who work there: Miguel, Juan, Gabriel, to name a few! The Hobee’s Cinnamon tea is such a staple in our family we often buy the 1lb bags of it. Hobee’s has such a special place in our hearts and we are so lucky to have it. Its comfort and flavor all in one. If you’re looking for a place to become a regular this is it!
Super fantastic food, service and environment. Thank you Gabriel and Miguel wonderful experience for the first time eating out in a year. Highly recommended! Indoor and outdoor seating. I enjoyed poached eggs with toast, hash browns and bacon with decaf coffee. It was phenomenal just like I remember from the good old days. I splurged since I’m on a whole food plant based diet. Looking forward to my next time to dine in here. ❤️
Honestly for a first time visit, it was way better than I expected. It was cozy and warm for a cold morning, the food was great like homemade recipes. A Curio type of vibe that I would come back to very soon!
Hobee's is one of the best places to get breakfast or brunch. Or at any time. They have a great selection of omelets. I have always asked for a side of pico de gallo for my omelet. Only because I like a lil with my food. The Cinnamon orange spice tea is something you definitely need to try. It's great as a cup of hot tea ☕️ or as a glass of iced tea. Also a must try is the blueberry coffee cake. Everything that we have ever ordered has been delicious.
We’ve posted before about this wonderful place and people! Year after year they continue to amaze. We started visiting the Palo Alto Hobee’s and eating breakfast there in 2012 when we were visiting the area, and we eat breakfast there whenever we are in the area. A lot of the staff has been there as long as we have been coming, and we’ve made good friends. The food can’t be beat (a specialty is their coffee cake, but every item we’ve tried is excellent). The staff is friendly, attentive, and they make the atmosphere light and exciting (along with other patrons). Great fun, great food!
This was the perfect place to rejuvenate after a 20-mile bike ride. I got the Stanford "cardinal" omelette, coffee, orange juice, and the blueberry coffee cake on the side. Next time I'm gonna bring my wife with me because I couldn't finish the coffee cake by myself! 😯 Honestly the vibe in here was great, high quality food and atmosphere - Joe Biden even ate here once! They seem like a cool restaurant that also supports good causes. I appreciate that they have a nice seating area outside with benches as well. Would eat here again!
We were in town for a concert at the shoreline amphitheater and we were looking for a good yummy breakfast and we found it! We were both impressed with the seasonal menu both food and drink. We got the special “gobble till you wobble Benedict “ that’s smoked turkey with brie, cranberry sauce and smothered in sage hollandaise. The eggs were poached to perfection! This special ticked all the boxes. We also had cinnamon pecan latte over ice… it was so light and perfect. If you’re looking for a damn good place to eat this is it! They have a signature berry coffee cake we regretted not getting. So definitely check that out for me. Enjoy!
This was my first time here, hubby has eaten here before. Miguel seated us, sooo nice. We ordered our drinks, I ordered bacon and eggs, potatoes and coffee cake. Took coffee cake with us, too big. Yummy!! Hubby ordered Bennie’s florentine, the food was very good. Service was fantastic! Very cute place. Highly recommend!
Come on... It's Hobees! A healthy place to get breakfast. If you come, get the original blueberry coffee cake. Always have them put butter on it. It is well worth the few extra calories. Everything we had was delicious . Our two wait staff people were on the ball and always had our cups of coffee and water filled. Very nice. Thank you, Hobees.
The food was overall delicious! Customer service was quick & friendly as well. I had the breakfast burger which was really good, a little bit dry because there's no sauce component but I asked for a side of hollandaise & it perfected it. But the burger was really good, cooked well & flavored well. The chilaquiles were also delicious & flavorful & of course the blueberry coffee cake was amazing! Will be back soon!
Expected a long wait in the morning but was able to get a table quickly. Service was good and fast. We had the Special Autumn Ommi and Gigi’s favorite Benny which was very light and tasty. Others had lemon blueberry pancakes and omelette all of which were good. Of course the star of the show. The coffee cake. Enough to bring home. Only downside is the lack of parking.
In A Nutshell: -Hobee's is a mainstay, a legendary neighborhood restaurant in the area. -I used to come eat here when I worked in Palo Alto. -The food is still amazing. -Their Salmon Hash & Eggs w/ the Coffee Cake is a nice, balanced breakfast. Overall, if you are in Palo Alto & need to find a mom & pop diner for breakfast, I suggest you come here to eat.
Had just gone there to meet a friend and totally loved the peace & tranquility of the place. Always great being in a restaurant where you can actually hear the person you are with, without them screaming. On the downside though; didn’t like that they had very few hot beverage options - they just had basic teas (can’t hold it against them because their customers may just prefer basic teas). Overall, good place
Hobee’s is always good. I ordered their cold brew and avocado BLT w/home fries. Cold brew was perfect. Sandwich needed to be toasted a little more and home fries were a little underdone, but nothing that would need to be sent back.
Came for Sunday breakfast, and it was delicious. Pancakes, omelets, sourdough French toast, great coffee. Aye, and left satisfied with the service and menu.
Food is good but they overcharge you for everything.
Really good food and reasonably priced. It's a coffee shop so atmosphere isn't really expected, but it was comfortable. The staff was somewhat indifferent.
Eclectic menu. Menu has lots of options, but might be too much for those that like simple menus. Options range from healthy grain bowls, sweet and savory breakfast items, to Latin and Mediterranean. I opted for the Chilaquiles which was good. Hashbrown potatoes were decent. This is a nice little place next door to the Hilton Inn Palo Alto. It reminds me of a mom and pop restaurant in a small neighborhood within Chicago. Servers to tables filled ratio was tough to watch but most restaurants are struggling for good help. Overall good experience.
Pretty good food. Breakfast nothing special. But nice cakes!
The food is amazing. The service is good. The place could use a refresh. Lots of love plants help, but not enough windows, so not enough natural light makes it darker than necessary. Plus, either the central system is broken or nonexistent, as heaters were placed by the front door and back of the restaurant. The wait staff is overwhelmed. They were tired and looked it. Don't get me wrong. Very friendly! But, their eyes and smiles - all stiff. You could tell that they were waiting for the day to come to an end. But, here's the best part, no matter how tired they were, they always smiled and NEVER rushed us. That's why I gave them 5 stars for service. We ordered breakfast for lunch. Yum! You can't really go wrong with that. And, they didn't. Great food. Overall, a good place to pop in for a bite to eat.
Walked up and waited maybe 3 minutes and got sat down. Only 2 of us so it made it easier to get a quick table on a Saturday morning. Very busy time and the staff was on top of it. After we sat we ordered drinks and those came out quick. Once we were ready to order it took a bit longer to get our order in, but after our order was taken it wasn’t long before the food came out. We got the breakfast quesadilla wich was loaded with breakfast favorites and was nice and hot. Came with a HUGE coffee cake, did not expect that size at all! It was nice and warm with melty butter in top. So good. The other place was the Mountain View Special Omelet with a side of country style hashbrowns. Overall, food was tasty and service was speedy considering it was a busy Saturday morning.
3.5/5, no wait on a Sunday morning, but service was slow. Food was good, but the coffee cake was a bit of a disappointment. Prices are more on the expensive side. Had the chorizo sweet potato hash, Mexican chocolate coffee cake and bottomless coffee. The hash was really well made, I enjoyed the mix of sweet, spicy and umami flavours that were mixed into the dish. The aioli was light and not overpowering. Great dish overall, would give it a chance before they swap it out! The coffee cake was a hard pass though. Perhaps their signature blueberry one is better but the special Mexican chocolate one is dry and bland. All I got was a mouth full of butter. Would have liked a richer cocoa flavour or even a sweeter chocolate note. Service wasn't the best. Had to be pretty proactive about grabbing the server (especially to refill my coffee!). The food also took a while to get out. Overall, with the exception of the coffee cake being overly hyped, not a bad spot for breakfast/brunch.
A classic spot in the bay. Really good portion sizes for the price. 2 brunch meals plus a milkshake left us so full we couldn’t finish, and came out to $40 with tax and tip. Was a busy Saturday morning but it was impossible to get our waiter, and we never saw him after we got our food; had to chase him down for the check. Would still recommend the spot, and make sure you get the classic coffee cake! Got the cheesy egg scramble and the chicken apple sausage scramble, as a burrito.
Food was $30 but tasty (I did custom order) I got food poisoning and was sick for a couple days. Service was average.
Sourdough toast was just plain white sliced bread. Wasn't sourdough at all. The famous Blueberry and raspberry coffee cafe tastes like out of the cake box mix. The portion was huge but I prefer quality vs. quantity. Staff were friendly though. That is a plus point.
The blueberry coffee cake is delicious and worth the visit. The rest of the menu is alright, but not spectacular. But I would definitely return for the home made blueberry coffee cake.
I came here on a Saturday brunch and it was nice outdoor seating but a little busy outside. Good: I did like the south of the border omelette I got! Had a ton of flavor and unique dish. Pretty big portion sizes with the coffee cake as well. Bad: The service here takes forever! Probably 30-45 min till we got our food. The coffee cake was a bit more dry than I liked too. Unless you have a lot of time probably would go somewhere else!
My husband and I stopped by for breakfast. I was very excited to try this place. It started off fine, quick service for getting our morning coffee. The waiter was quick to help at the beginning. I ordered Bennie. There was confusion on the menu. Husband wanted to know want came in the breakfast bowl decided to go with an omelette, waiter made some suggestions, all was going great. I ordered a Bennie which I thought came with pancakes and a choice of coffee cake or hash browns. Order came no pancakes, hash browns were actually country potatoes (which I don't like), and my husband omelette was okay. All in all we were unimpressed but it happens felt like we spending more money than what the breakfast was worth, didn't really like the food, but that's on us. If that's all that happened we would have shrugged and said nothing. Sometimes you just don't fit with a place. Waiter came by and asked us how our food was we said that it wasn't for us, but eh it happens. NEVER saw our waiter again. 15-20 mins later had to go to the front and ask for a check. Just because we didn't like the food didn't mean we weren't going to treat the wait staff well with a tip. We were overall impressed with the staff to start, but to be written off and abandoned. I hope the staff learns that sometimes people don't like the food but will still be respectful to the workers. Bust boy was super kind and helpful after the waiter just disappeared.
Parking was poor. The back parking lot has room for only one car width so cars leaving/ coming in can require several cars to back up in tandem. Backup parking at hotel was not easy to find. Good for outdoor seating but after checking in and getting a table, not any server attention for a long time, for example we never were asked if we wanted drinks by anyone. Order was wrong for 3:5 of us. Special order of pears for special topping were bitter as if the butter had gone bad or cleaning fluid was still on grill. They did a great job of adding protein powder to the buttermilk pancakes for me. I love Hobees as a chain but with the parking problems, and getting the orders wrong, I worried that given we have food allergies, I couldn't trust them to get details right. Sunnyvale and San Jose sites. I give 5 stars to. To be fair. It was a weekend so could have been too busy but it still made our experience poor.
So I was raised on Hobee’s breakfast when I lived in the Bay Area in the 80s. They had the best high hat hashbrowns so when we went to visit again yesterday (2024) I was highly disappointed that they do not have hashbrowns anymore which used to be the best!!!! all they have is Country potatoes, (Which they call hashbrowns, but are not)and then the omelette that I ordered seem like it was made with maybe two eggs? and I say maybe. But their coffee cake was as great as ever… just have to be honest… very disappointed.🥲😞
I will try to be fair about this as maybe our expectations were a bit off. When ordering we were trying to find something we liked and actually understood. For example, they took eggs Benedict and called them 'Bennies" which, in hindsight, makes sense. So I settled on a cheese omelet (since none of the premade omelet were appealing and it didn't seem that there was a make your own option)and my wife on the Benny. The coffee cake option didn't seem like coffee cake (I believe it was a blue berry or strawberry option) Which is why it was more about expectations versus good food. Another example was that the Benny was served on the Hash browns, and the hash browns were actually country fried potatoes. My omelet came out as an egg scramble with some cheese thrown in. My perspective is that it was a two egg omelet, and if I am going to pay 20 for an omelet I would expect at least three. When the waiter came around and asked us about our food we informed him that it we really didn't like it. Instead of doing any investigation he simply walked away and we weren't approached for the rest of our meal, including getting the check. We know the waiter doesn't have control of the condition of the food, and to be neglected like that in the end was extremely disappointed. We let the shift manager know about our disappointment and we left.
I wanted to try the blueberry cake so I came and sat on the patio. My wife and I ordered a salad, sandwich and a slice of cake. The cake came out first, warm with a giant amount of butter on top. The waiter dropped the butter off the cake onto the table and was unphased. We never got more butter and they never cleaned the giant pile of semi-melted butter off the table. The salad then came and it was the wrong one, no one came to check on us so we had to take the salad inside and ask for a different one, the new one was what we wanted but was mediocre. The sandwich was fine. Again, no one came to check on us so we went inside to get our cheque and pay. Hilariously terrible service, we ate the entire meal with giant pile of butter on the table and no butter for the cake.
The food was delicious, especially loved the coffee cake. However, the attitude of the male staff who welcomed us was rude. He handed us the menu as if throwing it and kept pressuring us about drinks. Water wasn't served until after the food arrived, so we had to request it later.
Overrated in my opinion. In fact probably the most overrated spot of all time. Food quality was nothing better than what Dennys has to offer, Service was absolutely horrible, and even their specialty coffee cake wasn’t good. Very dry and bland. Cannot recommend this place at all.
Food was good. Single star is purely for service, or rather lack of service. We were sat down and forgotten about for 20 minutes. We were told twice that someone would take our order soon (didn't happen for the 20 minutes). Overheard there were only 2 servers, however, two tables who sat down AFTER us were taken care of and had their orders put in before we were finally asked for our order. Seems inefficiently run. If you have time to waste, great place to wait.
They advertise lower prices on their website but have higher prices on their menus in the restaurant.
This review is for the Corporate Office. I have been trying for 2 months to order the Orange Spice Tea online and was told by corporate it would be available in September. It is October and still not available. When I lived in California Hobee's was my go to weekend breakfast spot. It seems that Hobee's no longer cares about it's customers so I have discovered an online recipe to make my own Orange Spice tea that is very similar to my Hobee's favorite. It is a shame that you've now alienated this customer.
Pancake was burnt on my wifes plate. Mine was chewy and not good quality. Sausages tough and overdone. Country potatoes even though I asked for hashbrowns. I would not pay $20 for this breakfast. Go somewhere else. Service was very good though. Good location.
