Opinions de Lucky Baldwin's Trappiste Pasadena
One of my favor bars in Pasadena. Great service, awesome chill atmosphere. The absolute best bar to watch Soccer/Futbol on a weekend morning. Get ready for good conversation, good grub and fantastic brews!
HOURS ARE INCORRECT Closest bar to Pasadena City College, so as a student, that's a plus. Beer prices can climb up into the double digits, so the night can get pricey...but it's nice to find a place where you can watch any soccer match you can imagine.
As a long time customer, about 2 months ago I ordered the Fish N Chips here and when I got home the batter was slightly undercooked. You know, that batter texture, anyway I ate it and it was good! Last week I called and talked to Ryan and asked how I should order the fish n chips to insure they were cooked well, but not well done. He told me how sorry he was and said that with recent changes in staff that it shouldn't be an issue. I ordered the fish and chips not looking for anything at all for free, along with a couple of their delicious French Dip sandwiches. When I arrived to pickup the order Ryan had "no charged" me the fish N chips!! I told him that was OK but wanted to pay for the food but he insisted...The food was fantastic!!...well, its Friday, time to order some more Fish N chips!! Thanks again Ryan!! A Loyal Customer Steve.
It's everything a pub should be. I went with a large party of 14 and every one of us left happy and satisfied. Beverage options are great - plenty of beers on tap. Delicious English style food and desserts - it was hot, well seasoned, and good portions. Sports bar atmosphere - lots of tvs and laid-back. I've already been back once and will continue suggesting it as a great place to meet up with friends.
First time at this place and sat in the back area. Great service with yummy drinks. My friend and I got the Buffalo Cauliflower appetizer and it was tasty. I got a few vodka sodas while my friend got Delirium Tremens beers. Will be back again soon.
Went to watch the NBA 2019 finals, and their service is excellent, their food is tasty and we'll priced, and their beer selection is diverse and well curated. But if I was going to select their greatest attribute it would absolutely be their service - friendly, knowledgeable, not pushy but always there when you need something.
Love this place. Come back to it every chance I get. Poured Guinness. Lovely. Food is excellent. Missing some selections coz of supply chain issues and COVID restrictions. Love the LB burger. Curry chicken. Fish and Chips. Even the chicken strips are good. Come here if you want good beer
Lucky Baldwin's is my Go-To for buffalo wings and beer. They have a short menu but everything they make is delicious, there are plenty of TVs for watching the game and a bevvy of places to sit and get comfortable. Best of all, their staff is excellent -- they're friendly, knowledgeable, and fast with the drink service.
I've been at Trappiste Pub 3 times, all very pleasant with good and friendly service. Much prefer over Lucky Baldwin's in Sierra Madre which has less atmosphere and service - and no full bar. Near City College, Trappiste has a younger crowd. The LB burger is great. I've had a Manhattan and house Merlot for drink, all excellent. I bookended the pandemic there, and it's now my favorite spot for a drink.
A right British pub in the centre of Pasadena. Traditional, well-made British pub food paired with over 50 draft beers with bottles chilled in the case. Interior is dark, warm, and inviting as a good pub should be. Service was prompt and knowledgeable. The charming bartender was more than willing to assist in my explorations with both recommendations and small tasters. It is a sports pub, so expect to see games on the several screens, and decent streamed music. Food was plentiful, tasty, and well priced. If you find yourself in Pasadena, and are a fan of good times, get yourself to Lucky Baldwin's!
The food and service were amazing. Good place for an authentic British breakfast. And they are dog friendly with a pup menu.
When you’re feeling down, I need to pick me up when you want to watch your favorite sports team play I don’t want the. Roads of a downtown bar. Great friendly knowledgeable staff great selection of beers come on down be respectful. Have fun.
Great Local Pub, one of three "Lucky's" in the Pasadena area and this one has the best Brunch. A great selection of beers on tap and the best selection of large bottle brews as well. Highly recommend the Fish and Chips and the Meat Pies, both are great for a cold winter evening in Pasadena paired with a perfectly poured pint of Guinness.
All the servers whom I had been served all these times or years were Tatiana, Chris, Ryan, Ben, Mike and Mary had all provided impeccable excellent services whenever we dine at their premise....Good fish and chips and curry chicken too....And good rock and blues music and 80's retro psychedelic rock music. Good place to chill.
Great pub food, excellent beer list, and a TV visible from every seat. Great place to catch a sportsball match.
This place has a constantly rotating tap beer selection, which is awesome. There are also quite a few bottles to choose from as well. Unlike the other locations, this one serves liquor, which is a plus. Really good place to catch European Football. Also, if you run into Tatiana, she's the best! Knows her stuff and is cool as hell. By the way...they get Pliny the Younger every year. Come on now! Gold. Cheers!
The wall of beer taps is impressive, but I enjoyed a few bottled winners as well. Top faves were the Lambic Strawberry and an amazing beer my friend recommended- Scaldis Noel. Delicious. He told me to try their steak sandwich, but it was full of gristle and way to thick to chew in a sandwich, so not getting that again. However the Irish Nachos were delicious and that's why these guys get to keep my 5 stars!!! And both the meat pot pies and the shepherd's pie looked and smelled amazing.
Good Americanized version of a British pub. Offers a wide selection of traditional and craft beer, full bar, with a variety of English pub grub. Plenty of TVs for sports viewing on match day.
My husband and I have passed by Lucky Baldwins for many years and yet never really thought of stopping in. Pre Covid this establishment was featured on a weekend travel/ food show as best place to visit in Pasadena. Moving forward this past weekend we decided to drop in for lunch and what a great treat it was. Our server Tatiana was Amazing and kind at helping us decide on Fish and chips- AWESOME- with a Mixed Berry pie for desert. Service and food A+ for us. We will definitely frequent Lucky Baldwins moving forward. Thanks again Tatiana!!
Just came in for drinks and they make fantastic drinks! Cool atmosphere. Ordered the 3 Wise Men and it was a great choice Ended the night with the Rosemary Mule Super cool staff too.
Great atmosphere for American football lovers I got all the rules explained before the end of the first quarter. Also why the Packers wear a cheese hat. To have a place with that many Belgian beers on tap is hard to find in most European cities so... chapeau bas. 🥇
A wonderful place for a beer and a "sports" match. There are plenty of Televisions so you won't miss that special score. Breakfast vegan options, consists of bagel and avocado's. Which is delicious! On world cup day's you are able to get a bucket of beers for a good price. I would definitely go back for soccer games and what not. A good place to go with friends.
I love Belgian beers, pub food and sports, which basically makes this place heaven. It has the feel of a local watering hole, where you can just hang out and eat and drink as long as you want. I had the steak sandwich, which was a good size and hearty meal. They don't skip out on the portion size that's for sure. Parking is in back and on the street. There are some homeless in the area, so look out for the crazy ones.
This review is long overdue - we are so lucky to live so close that Lucky Baldwins is our neighbourhood pub. Beer selection could not be better, but what really makes it is the service. We have received exceptional recommendations from Kristin, Tatiana, and Ryan - it is so amazing to walk in and be greeted with the newest IPA recommendations.
Probably some of the best Fish N Chips I've ever had. (And I've had them from the Netherlands, UK, and around the US) HUGE pieces of fish and they've got a great tartar sauce. Plus the big steak fries are always best. Excellent beer selection too, tons of brews on tap.
Heffenweizen, fish and chips. Huge portion of fish that was fried perfectly. The hefe was citrus-y and delightful apart from a missing orange slice. What's the deal with that, do pubs and restaurants just not do orange slices on the glass for hefes anymore?? Still fantastic food service and atmosphere.
Great atmosphere, great people and servers, and decent prices. You would be hard pressed to find a better selection of Belgian beers, although I prefer American craft beers which they also have a good selection of. They have good British food, although limited beers from there. Fun place to be and great for games! At least 10 screens.
Nice selection of beers. We ordered the fish and chips and they were delicious. Menu has a wide variety of British fare but not much that you would expect at a typical American bar, so be forewarned. Great for large groups because this location is not particularly crowded, even at peak hours.
By any means its not 5 stars because it's fancy. It's just a chill vibe, great customer service and an atmosphere that you can go to and be who you are. Screw the fancy get up and go, just bar it here, relax and enjoy! Also their food is better than the average "bar foods"
Great food great service & a perfect lemon drop Martini, can't wait to go back. (Cornish Pasty Chip's & peas)( Steak & mushroom pie chip's & peas) Oh & i forgot about the delicious giant sausage roll we had as an appetizer.
I enjoy the beer. They have a tremendous selection! Mostly Belgian or inspired by Belgian beer. The food is good pub grub as well. They always have games on the televisions so it's fun to hang out to watch sports. Not much of a view outside. Very nice today!
This place has a great atmosphere, friendly people, if you are ever unsure on what drink to get the staff is excellent with picking one out to best match your taste. They like to mix things up through there trivia nights, taco Tuesdays, and beer fest that they host. Overall if your looking for a good place to relax and have a beer then this is your place.
I'm here pretty often and service is great. They will bring your pets water and take take your order fairly quickly. They have a pretty good selection of beer and I've only tried about 6 things on their menu but they're all very good. I wish I had more more T v's with sound but over overall a great place to watch sports. I Usually enjoy their patio area.
Great beer selection, and one cider. The Fish and Chips was really good. It's a bit on the pricier side, but it's worth it. The fish was cooked through, the batter was crispy, the tarter sauce was perfect, and the chips (read "fries" 🇺🇸) were tender inside, crispy on the outside, and well-seasoned. Parking in the back is a big plus.
If you like beer you owe it to yourself to come here. They have a good selection that rotates depending on what they can get their hands on from local and other vendors. However the crowning gem of this place is when they have specialty or take over events where the beer selection goes after a specific theme. The food is also great British style or amarican dining fare. The staff is always friendly and attentive when I've been here. Great for groups or a quick pint. Even during the pandemic they have maintained a fantastic experience and gone above and beyond to make sure everyone from staff to guests are safe.
Good food, good company, great service, and excellent beer selection. Lots of TV's with sports, if that's your thing. If you're there on the weekend, the full English breakfast is a must.
This is one of my fave pubs in Pasadena. They have such a vast and good beer selection. They are reasonably priced, they have food and happy hour as well. It's a nice place to hang out and have a beer with friends. I always find something on the beer menu that I love. They also offer bottled beers. The Trappiste location has liquor and beer, the old Town location is just beer. Trappiste has its own parking lot, old Town is metered street parking or a parking garage.
Great food and beer selection. Friendly staff. Highly recommended
I frequent the location in Old Town. I exclusively come to this one when Pliny the Younger is pouring. It's pretty much just as awesome as the Old Town location. Best tap list in the area, along with those Fish and Chips that you would do dastardly things for. You won't be disappointed stopping by here!🍻
The Raymond / Old Town pub is Great if you’re an Arsenal fan / supporter. A group meets there on most match days. Atmosphere is fun and welcoming. Don’t recommend it for Spurs / Tottenham fans however. Also meet with Liverpool, Man U fans in their respective fixtures. These are early morning events mind you. This one I’m writing a review on is better for midday NFL or just to hang in a low key atmosphere with good beers and pub grub.
Lots of beer on draft here! Tons of delicious stuff! Staff is very friendly and attentive. You can even show up early for breakfast! Like sports? They have mucho TVs. Don't see the game you want? Ask a friendly server. They will accommodate you if they can.
Opens at 9:00 a.m.! Dogs only allowed on the big patio. A soccer bar.
Nice neighborhood place. Great selection of beers. Took my mother here yesterday. She had the fish and chips. asked for peas instead of chips and they were happy to do so. Also had the Irish Nachos which were great. The meat they used was cooked well. I had the Chicken Curry. Great taste. I needed an extra portion of rice. Service is good.
Drew is incredible.. Food was great.. Atmosphere is lively..
Had a cozy Saturday night with a good friend last night. Everything tasted amazing, and our server was incredibly nice and cool. They even told me about a vegan option that wasn't on the menu. It's very hard to find a vegan entree at a pub, but it was delicious!!! Highly recommend this place for a nice meal or drink :)
A go to slot for a very long time. The beer selection is great. I had an Old Rasputin and a Mind Circus last night. The service is excellent. The menu has a bunch of options that are unique to LB's. The Irish nachos are screaming good. So are the sliders. But, my favorite is the fish n chips.
Lucky Baldwin's Pub is the place to visit if you're fond of English food, enjoy watching Football, Soccer to us Americans, and a world class selection of beers, to visit. They feature different varieties of beer plus periodically highlighting specific styles of beers with a special beer festival. My favorite is a Belgian beer festival featuring Lambics, a spontaneous yeasted beer with its own distinctive taste and story.
Wanted some good Brit food and was really happy with Guinness meat pie. Delish
We had a great lunch here! Delicious food, good vibes, and an amazing attentive server, Nova. She took the time to chat and make our experience fun and inviting. Definitely coming back for more!
Nova was such a great waitress! I had a wonderful meal here with my mom and sister. Love the British Curry.
Best fish and chips with coleslaw! Servers are always accommodating for me on the patio with my little boston terrier. Plenty of TVs. Their tap list and drink list is 3 pages! My go to spot to hangout and enjoy Colorado Blvd and a cold one 🍻
Excellent beer selection and delicious British pub food. The fish and chips are some of the best I've had. The fish is perfectly cooked and not dried out like many places, and the breading isn't too heavy or oily. The steak and Guinness meat pie is also worth a try. Occasionally they run out of some beer offerings but there are so many choices that shouldn't bother anyone. I've never had anything less than great service, even during busy evenings.
Lucky Baldwin's has some of the best pub food around. The service is friendly, and the dining room is comfortable. The steak and mushroom pie is worth a trip.
The drinks were awesome. The food... Well, what I ordered (pigs in a blanket) was awesome! The fish and chips was disappointing, to say the least. All batter, no fish. and my friends who had the French onion soup said it was the worst they had ever tried. Now, we're in our mid-40s, considering our age... We've probably had french onion soup hundreds of times.that being said, if this was the worst they've ever had, this is one hell of a damnation. Bottom line, if you go here, have everything but the French onion soup or fish and chips and you'll be perfectly happy.
Good craft beer options and they let you taste up to two before making a decision! Foods really good, could be seasoned a bit more but it has vegetarian options which is always a plus for me! Great buffalo cauliflower! I’m not a sports guy but there is a lot of tv if your into that. You can also bring kids, I feel the bar and restaurant sections are separated well enough to not be near toxic behavior.
They serve a good variety of beers here, decent prices. The ambience is good. Music wasn't too loud. I enjoyed what I drank and the goblet glasses are cool touch. The beers were poured well, not a lot of head, no weird tastes. I don't know what the food is like yet. Service was good, although it was a time with a small amount of customers. I don't know what it's like with more folks. I would go again.
I had the jalapeno poppers, some drinks. One of the glasses had a vague smell of having been wiped with a damp cloth and the jalapeno poppers weren't spicy at all. But the staff did take it off the cheque Generally the staff was helpful and polite and the vibe was nice too. Outdoor patio also helps. Generally reasonable. June 2025 update Awesome selection of beer including German and Belgian brews + IPAs but with prices between $9 and $14 it's a bit on the pricey side for a pint. But there is parking in the back so that's a plus
A large work group met at Lucky Baldwin's, and our reservation included about three tables. We should have reserved more because we were not allowed to add more tables to our collection. The food was amazing (had a burger), and soda is not on tap (can and glass with ice). There are non-alcoholic beverage choices and plenty of parking in the rear of the building.
Decent pub. I first went way back when it originally opened and didn't care for it but I don't remember why. Went again recently for the second time cuz i now live around the corner and it was great. The cottage pie was very good. The original Lucky Baldwin's is one of my favorite places and this one has the same excellent beer selections. I really wish they had some beers from Wiretap Brewing, the newest and best brewery in LA.
Located between Allen Avenue and Pasadena City College is Lucky Baldwin's Trappiste. It is known for its great selections of beer, mixed drinks, food, and atmosphere. Over 65 beers on tap and about 100 beers available chilled, Lucky's is an adventure every time. Taps are constantly being changed and the beers available will put a smile on your face. In addition, this is the only Lucky Baldwins location featuring a full bar. Hand crafted cocktails are available. Staff will assist you with your questions and help you make a selection. The food that is available ranges from great chicken wings, burgers with fresh cut fries, to bangers and mash. Specials appear frequently. Ask your server what is available. The Chicken Chipotle Sandwich, The Lucky Burger with fresh cut fries, the Spicy Chicken Wings, the Cobb Salad chicken tenders, housemade potato chips,The Bread Pudding dessert are my favorite orders. I enjoy fresh soup, when it is available. I miss the full body texture and flavor of their original chili recipe that is no longer on the menu. This neighborhood meeting place has an eclectic clientele. Families, students, and international visitors find Lucky Baldwin's Trappiste the place to meet. Tuesday night trivia is always very popular. Austin is a great host and creates an entertaining evening. There are three Lucky Baldwin’s Pubs. let people know that you will meet them at Trappiste on Colorado Boulevard.
Food was very tasty - the fries were some of the best I've had. The only thing I'd ask is for another one or two vegetarian options on the menu. Pub trivia was tons of fun! but it is a little hard to hear in there.
Beer selection over all ok, they take a lot of time to take your order. Only two guys running the whole place. Food okay, 20 average. Good beer around 10 a pint.
Swung in here for the first time and it was great. Went with the bangers and mash with a Guinness. Enjoyed the food, drink and service. If you’re in the mood for a British Pub, defiantly give them try.
Great food, sports all over and lots of tasty beer choices. I would probably be more into the atmosphere if I was into watching sports. Overall, a favorite. Burrata toast is amazing and a nice hearty portion. Kale salad is very filling, also has burrata. The Sunday Roast is a good delivery on expectations, tasty gravy, good meat, turnips, carrots, popover, etc.
good for a quick bite. good service. fish and chips are pretty decent. fries are excellent. Pasties are delicious. dark beer selection is a bit lacking, but I dont take away stars for that. Enjoyed trivia night.
Great English breakfast. Proper sausages and bacon, could have done with a few more beans
Cozy pub with hearty British-style food. The fish and chips are crispy and well-seasoned. Beer selection is solid with local and imported options. The staff is attentive and friendly. Perfect spot for a casual night out
Very small bar area. Hard to see what beers they have on tap. Hard to order bc there isn't a designated spot, so you have to try and order over the people sitting at the bar. The people were friendly. The music was weird for an Irish pub. But overall not a bad place.
I’ve never been to England before, but I can imagine this is what a pub there would feel like. There is a great vibe and atmosphere with lots of drink and food options. While the fish and chips were the biggest I have ever had, I cannot say they were the best. The fries and coleslaw were decent, but the fish was very unappetizing and I could not finish.
Long time Pasadena pub. I hadn't been there in years. Had fish & chips. The fish was good. The chips were ok. I didn't have a beer because they have the one I wanted and they charge $2 to sample. I have traveled the world and never had a bar charge me to sample a beer on draft. Not cool. Therefore I had water. Only four stars.
Walked in and heard country music. That was the first offputting thing. Ordered a Guinness, no 2-step pouring process. She brought me the beer still trying to settle. 2nd and 3rd, the beer wasn't cold enough. Fast forward to the menu, burgers aren't exactly "traditional" Irish dishes BUT I ordered a chicken pot pie, essentially. Here is where they redeemed themselves for sure. Big hearty chunks of chicken, potatoes and carrots. Upon cutting through the flaky crust, the aroma was so delicious it was almost enough for me to want to burn myself to wolf it down. Flaky crust was so buttery that it almost tasted cheesy. Needless to say, I ate all the crust and tried my hardest to finish it all. It beat me. Tried another tepid beer. All in all, def go for the food maybe I will just get a beer from the fridge next time.
Great place and lots of interesting beer choices only complaint was the waiter looked and sounded like he was in a bad mood and didnt even bother to fill up the whole glass of beer giving me mostly foam
I get REALLY excited when I know I'll come here because I love their fish and chips (at any lucky's). This one has better TVs than the old town pub and is more spacious indoors. And of course delicious beers and always showing soccer.
I enjoy going to this place with friends to watch a big game, play trivia, or to just grab a few drinks. They have a pretty good beer selection. The main reason I'm giving three stars is for the outrageous upcharge for a crumpet when you order an English breakfast. It's $2 extra, but it is the most pitiful thing. I'm disappointed they're even calling it a crumpet, should have stuck with toast.
Just an average sports bar with a bar menu. Nothing special
Never had a less than optimal experience at any of their locations until my constructive feedback was met with sarcasm by whom I assume was the manager on 5/20 @6:45pm
This location has changed so much over the course of years I have been coming to this location for over 9 years and I used to like the old location better. Now the location finds itself to be flashy and better due to all the TVs and even more beer advertising all around. The location was plain and simple, however this place out does have a wider range of beers to select from. This is now a sports bar or it is nice to watch a game with a couple beers and wings. Be sure to check out this location for yourself it's nice overall.
Not very Irish or English, food was all off traditional recipes and not fresh, tasted like leftovers from 3 days before.
When we were there they didn't have very much seating available due to a private party. They were busy and the service was slow. The food was so so. I had the Steak and Guinness meat pie. The presentation was nice but the meat was beyond over cooked. It wasn't the best place to take out of town guests.
What a bad night here. Started with a wrong drink order which was quickly rectified. Fish and chips came out with ONE piece of soggy cod and chips. Cottage pie watery in a dish half the size of what its usually in. Weird and mostly cheese on top almost no mash. Everything was pretty bad
Walked into Lucky Baldwins an hour before the Ravens game is scheduled to start and the one guy in a red shirt is doing laps, so I know to be patient. He brings me water, menu. When he comes back I order a Stella and their fish & chips. I just left. Didn’t get the beer, at all. No walk by to say the kitchen is taking long, sorry about your beer. Two other tables that got there after me got their drinks. A waitress brought drinks to her tables. The two stars are for the ice water. Disappointing.
Awful service, awful atmosphere, awful food, all round awful experience. The food orders were wrong and the food tasted awful, the drinks orders were wrong (I had to go to the bar to exchange them), we had to ask them to clean our table and bring us cutlery, we had to get the high chair for our son ourselves and even had to ask them for butter for our toast (it wasn't even that busy (I now know why!)). Very sloppy service and given that it was Father's Day, not even a mention of it. The place was dirty and smelt like it had not been cleaned since it opened. I ordered an omelette, chips and beans and it cost me over $15. The list goes on, I would highly recommend going somewhere else for a meal.
Rather upscale, so the menu prices are a little high. For example, their burger is $15. The entire menu is expensive for the average person. I did not eat there after viewing the menu. The location is in a strip mall with 10 restaurants, and has no views other that the street. It should be on a stand-alone property with better views to command the prices. Many items seem to have a French description of ingredients. Upper middle-class income is need to afford it. The number of items offered is pretty good though.
If I can only leave zero star. Showed up at 8pm on a Saturday night, got greeted with menus then never came back to take our order. There were only three tables and a handful of people at the bar, server/bartender was just talking to other guests. Not sure if they're racist, but we were the only Asian people in there. I do feel like we were not welcomed or they don't serve our kind. I hope the owner will take this review seriously and check their staff unless he or she is racist.
I've been coming here since i was a young lad. I hate to say this cause I used to like eating here but it was horrible the fish was soggy and greasy the fries were cold and hard the paper it was served on kept tearing so I couldnt tell if I was eating paper or fish. And on top of that its 20 dollars now instead of 17 and there its no more coleslaw? I hope the manager will contact me and make it up. Cause it sucked. Waitresses were at least nice.
Q:"This Pasadena pub answers the question,'how little can you care and still have a kitchen?'" A: What is Lucky Baldwins Trapiste pub? The lack of any sort of crowd should be a warning that this place has seriously gone downhill. My food arrived prepared incorrectly and they took it back and did not fix it. Really all they did in 5 min was let it cool. I ate about 20% of before deciding the calories weren't worth it. This must be common because the waitress didn't both to inquire. I mentioned it and she offered to get the manager. He came over listened and picked up my card to run it. Simply no pride in that man. None. There are better restaurants in both directions on Colorado, Plate 38 and Foothill are both good. fewer TVs but good food prepared by professionals who care. This was my last visit to LB, good beer selection lots of TVs, but if beer dispensers were legal they would not need staff. And no one would notice.
Visited on Sunday around 3 PM when it wasn't busy at all. Our server barely came to our table, and it took a long time just to place our order. Drinks came out quickly, but the food took much longer. Both dishes arrived cold. The fish and chips were especially disappointing. The fish was cold, the batter was soggy, and it came with one very small piece of fish, even though photos from other reviews show two pieces. The green peas were cold as well. Portions were small, the table was dirty, and overall the experience didn't match the price. We still tipped, but the service and food quality didn't justify it. Would never go back or recommend this place.
