Me and my wife had pleasure to visit for a friend’s wedding (Amanda and Justin) Venue is cosy and welcoming. Staff very polite and smiling. Wedding schedule on the wall was good idea to keep guests informed about the special event. Garden with play area is good touch for younger guests. Ceremony was set first in room than we had champagne and room was transformed to setting are for dinner. After dinner with few speeches two tables had been removed and created big dance area for everyone to enjoy. Delicious food was served with sharing boards. Music was great 👍 If you plan small venue for your special day is worth looking into this one.

Had a meeting last week to arrange a renewal of vows for next year…all our questions were answered & so helpful with suggestions for the special day….would fully recommend you contact this venue for your big day….I was part of the planning for my best friends wedding 15 years ago…and so excited to part of this again with such a picturesque venue…it’s going to be magical. I will be making the wedding cake & just love the cake cart for the display.

A wonderful experience from the moment we stepped inside to view the venue. Jono was extremely welcome and listened to what we wanted for our day. We knew that day we didn't want to get married anywhere else and booked a few days later. The team really supported us when we had to postpone the day due to the pandemic and even helped us find new caterers when the previous ones couldn't accommodate the new date. Paul ensured everything ran smoothly on the day itself and as soon as I walked into get ready that morning I knew it would all go to plan. The bridal room is a fantastic asset and gave me, my mum and bridesmaids somewhere to enjoy being pampered together while we go ready. The venue is so beautiful and spacious while still feeling quite intimate. Thank you so much to everyone involved our day!

I can not recommend the Compasses enough. We feel in love with the venue the moment we walked in the door - the wooden beams, fireplaces, snug in the bar, ceremony space and countryside location and outdoor space. Jane made us very welcome at our first viewing answering all our questions and giving very helpful advice and suggestions. They tailor made our wedding day without a worry. Claire was my email point of contact and if I had to wait 24 hours for a reply when she was in the office that was a long time! Paul was so reassuring and confidently competent he immediately relaxes you but with the knowledge he has everything in hand with a spare plan B-Z if you need! He made the day run so smoothly the only thing we would change to be to do it all again. The bar and kitchen staff were fantastic no request was too much and i think the bar maids enjoyed their part in credit card roulette! Amazing venue and brilliant people you couldn't find better.

We had our wedding at The Compasses whilst restrictions were still in place and only had around 35 people attending. The venue was ideal for a small and relaxed countryside wedding. The entire team there were so easy to work with and made everything perfect. Thank you so much for a beautiful day.

We absolutely loved our experience, staff were so helpful. Shoutout to charlaine for communication throughout, Della was hands on and so helpful, Tracy is amazing she was so supportive and helpful in any way she could be. Amazing venue. Got married here in May 2022 after several postponements from the original April 2020 date. The venue could not have handled these better. Everything went really smoothly on the day thanks to the friendly and professional staff. It is a shame I don't have a reason to go back again!

Compasses well know for weddings but Jono and his team provided us with the perfect venue for dads wake. Nothing was too much trouble, the service was excellent, the venue was perfect and everyone complimented the buffet. We would thoroughly recommend The Compasses at Pattiswick.

Great wedding venue. The staff looked after the guests very well when we attended Ali and Heidi's wedding. Only slight down is no WiFi, but who cares when you're bopping the night away 😁

We got Married at the Compasses on Tuesday 29th Oct. Charlaine was amazing helping organise the day, every step of the way no matter how many questions I had it was never too much for her, all the way through to checking in with me after the wedding, she is a five star in every way they should be proud to have her as part of their team :) The wedding day ran smoothly and the staff were very good at also moving things last minute if I needed any adjustments to times ect. The bridal room was just incredible to get ready in and have access to all day as a bit of a cool down zone for anyone like me who can get overwhelmed. We had a few issues with a few of our guest on the day unfortunately but the venue worked with us well to insure this had been dealt with as well as possible. Sometimes I felt a few members of staff could have been a little bit more cheerful however I do also take some accountability that we had one or two difficult guests which may have dampened their mood. Overall they did make sure we had a wonderful day so I’m very grateful :) Overall would highly recommend this venue! <3

Very nice pub and venue. Staff very helpful and always willing to help. Lovely setting in the middle of no where but that's the nice thing. Awesome little park for the little ones and a sizable car park.

So pleased we chose the compasses as our wedding reception venue back in September. Our day was just perfect and a massive part of that was all down to the staff at the compasses. They were amazing to work with, from the initial meetings all the way through to the big day! They decorated the whole venue for us as our ceremony was at the church. As someone who likes to oversea everything, leaving the decorating down to someone else without having any involvement in on the day was a worry but oh my did they do it perfectly! The compasses definitely exceeded all our expectations. The day ran so smoothly and still to this day we are getting such amazing feedback from our family and friends on how incredible the venue and staff were. The compasses will always be so special to us now and we will always highly recommend them.

After having our Wedding at The Compasses at Pattiswick, we can not recommend the venue highly enough. In fact, we only viewed two venues and our search stopped as soon as we visited the venue and met Paul. If you are looking for a relaxed day with a unique spin, then look no further than The Compasses. From the minute we met Paul, we knew that we would be in extremely safe hands. Paul has the unique ability to know exactly what is needed and when, and has a wealth of experience to guide the planning of your big day. He makes a great team with Claire, who was always at the end of an email to answer all of our questions in the lead up. Being a converted pub, the venue itself has enough space for guests to find a quiet area to chat, while also creating enough atmosphere when they spread out. We included lawn games for our summer wedding, which were great in the large garden and there’s even an assault course for the kids / big kids at heart. We managed to get some amazing photos both by the white gates at the entrance and in the surrounding fields and country lanes. And there was plenty of space for our guests to park in the car park. The bridal suite was an added bonus where we were able to store our things and gather the bridesmaids before the ceremony itself. When you combine the fantastic venue with the amazing team, it would be impossible not to have the wedding of your dreams at The Compasses at Pattiswick and we shall always be grateful that we chose to have our wedding there. Thanks for everything, you guys are the best! :)

Had the absolute pleasure of photographing the wedding of Joe and Amy here last summer and I can't rate the compasses at Pattiswick high enough! All the staff were super lovely and the set up is great everything ran like clock work! Ideal for your wedding day, really lovely surroundings for your photos too! The bridal prep suite is really lovely too, a great space to get ready in and have a sneaky peek through the one way glass too! If your thinking of booking here it's a really great venue you won't be disappointed!

We can’t recommend The Compasses at Pattiswick highly enough. The venue is beautiful and welcoming, and was the perfect size for our wedding (40 guests in the day, 40 more in the evening). The team answered all of our many queries and emails really quickly and were helpful at every turn. On the day they made sure everything ran smoothly and their experience really shone through. Jono, Charlaine, Jordaine and Della were brilliant and made our wedding day perfect!

We finally had our wedding day on 18/12. Everything about the compasses has been amazing from start to finish, our initial show around, booking, postponing was all made easy. The team go above and beyond to make sure our day was as special as can be! All of our guests commented how beautiful the venue was with roaring fires and cosy relaxed feel. Paul goes way above and beyond to make sure the day runs smoothly, absolutely nothing was too much trouble! I highly recommend the venue and the team! Thank you for making our day!

We had the most amazing wedding at the beginning of August at the Compasses. The venue itself is great, so much room inside and outside and a fantastic bridal suite for the bridal party to use throughout the day. The staff were all so friendly and helpful, they really couldn’t do enough to make our day special. If you are planning a wedding I couldn’t recommend the Compasses enough, you are just brilliant 🤩

The Compasses team are truly the most lovely team we could've worked with on our wedding day. Not only is it a beautiful venue, but their whole ethos made them stand out from any other wedding venue we saw. Our first meeting with Paul confirmed that this was the place for us - laid back, flexible, and 100% focussed on giving us and our family the best day possible. We were able to shape the wedding we wanted with no pressure and no hidden costs and restrictions. Claire and the team were always on hand throughout the whole planning process, answering every question we had (and there were lots!). Their list of recommended suppliers was also perfect - we worked with a number of people they recommended, all were lovely and you could tell they loved working with The Compasses. On the day itself we didn't have to worry about a thing, Paul and the team were so smooth and handled absolutely everything. The bridal room was perfect for getting ready in, our hair stylist loved it. Paul led the whole day flawlessly, and was an absolute star in helping one of our guests with an injury - he went above and beyond, and we can't thank him enough! We couldn't recommend The Compasses more - if you're looking for a stunning, laid back venue, and lovely people to plan your day with you, this is the one!!

From the moment we saw The Compasses at Pattiswick, we knew we wanted to celebrate our wedding there. The venue is so beautiful. All of the team at The Compasses are just wonderful. They are so friendly, approachable and happy to answer any question. On our wedding day, everything felt so relaxed which was exactly what we wanted. It all ran so smoothly and the day was everything we wanted and more. Lots of the guests complimented The Compasses. Della was incredible throughout the day and was always on hand to help. We feel very lucky to have had our wedding day at The Compasses and wish we could do it all over again! We can’t thank everyone enough. 😊

My other half and I had our wedding at the Compasses just over a month ago and, in all honesty, we couldn't have been happier with the decision. They were the quickest venue to respond to our enquiry and were very personable when arranging to visit the venue. It was the first venue we looked at and it set such a high standard for us that, when we visited others, nothing really beat it. Our first meeting with Paul was excellent, he and the team were very accommodating and incredibly flexible in making sure that we got the wedding we wanted. They left no detail about the wedding unchecked when asking us about what our ideal wedding would be. It really took the stress off us as the newly-weds. They even took care of coordinating with the other suppliers we chose to make sure things got to the venue at the right time and set all the decorations up for the day. The only thing we effectively had to do was just to turn up and get married. The venue itself is a very pretty building with a nicely-kitted-out bridal suite, bar, reception area, quiet area, ceremony hall/dining area, and dance floor. The building really uses its old gastro-pub history and layout to its advantage. Our wedding was relatively smaller one with nearly 50 guests for the ceremony and nearly double that for the reception and the Compasses was just perfect in-terms of size. It didn't feel cramped but it didn't feel vacant either. There's an old-school playing area outside which is great for any children that attend (or for any adventurous/inebriated adults - I'm looking at you groomsmen). Also the drinks were pub prices as opposed to "wedding venue prices" so happy days all round! Location-wise, compared to some of the other weddings I've been to which have practically been in the back of beyond to those which are practically on the main road, the Compasses really hit the right balance. It's just out-of-the-way enough that you get a real feeling of intimacy and privacy but it's easy enough to find and very simple to get to. There are some great views of the Essex countryside both from the front and the rear of the venue where my wife and I were able to get some fantastic photos taken. The staff on the day were superb. Paul really helped keep the events of the day moving forward in a way that felt natural and was able to coordinate with so many people that it felt like he had a secret twin. The rest of the team were really friendly and helpful towards us and our guests and the food was incredible (we went for the BBQ)! Again, the flexibility they gave with the menu (we had a couple of vegans, vegetarians, a nut allergy, and a gluten allergy to consider) just helped everything else run smoothly. So if you're looking to have a really sweet, intimate, and stress-free bespoke wedding, these guys are amazing. Get married here!

Wonderful wedding venue in great location with excellent staff.My niece and her fiancee picked this venue and they got the perfect wedding and reception. The main room was beautifully decorated and arranged. The layout was just right with the bar rooms, garden,and outdoor seating providing a variety of spaces for music,dancing and socialising or quiet and chilling out.An outdoor play area for children and later indoor toys for them. The bar was efficient and staff friendly.After the wedding ceremony food was circulated in small dishes as per request and were delicious.The staff kept coming out with the various options and cleaning up tables continually.I thanked the manager and staff as they ran everything on time in a friendly way. The decorations,cake display and cutting off it, the unique cheese presentation were done with style. The sound systems for DJ,solo singer and later band worked a treat. If you book a wedding and reception here you get fantastic professional service and again I have to thank all involved for making my nieces special day one to remember.

The most amazing venue with staff that surpassed our expectations. My wife and I got engaged in June 2017 in Italy and on the way back I surprised her by booking to visit The Compasses at Pattiswick as a potential wedding venue. We were blown away by the beauty and versatility of the venue, but even more so by Paul and Claire who are the most professional, friendly and helpful co-ordinators you could ever imagine. Our wedding day was flipping fantastic! I/we could go on and on and on about how good the venue and staff are, but there are not enough words to do it justice. You will have to trust me when I say you won’t need to look any further once you have visited The Compasses. To Paul, Claire and the team, we are truly indebted to you for creating the “magic” we were searching for on our special day. Thank you so very much for all your hard work.

This place is absolutely beautiful. I was a guest at a wedding last weekend and can honestly say the place was immaculate. The staff are extremely friendly and accomodating ..everything went smoothly. The set-up is ideal for photographs and the buffet that they provided covered everyone. It's easy to park and and it flows from the day to the evening, with everything in one place.

We had a cracking wedding party at The Compasses at Pattiswick with Paul and the team catering for everything we needed, ensuring the night went without a hitch! And the regular ‘check-ins’ throughout the evening shows the fantastic attention to detail which makes this such an amazing venue. Family and friends love the venue too and are pleased they now know it exists! Top work guys, great venue!

Gorgeous little venue! Friendly staff, easy to find, and plenty of parking (plus you can leave your car overnight if needed!) If you’re relying on taxis, do remember to book well in advance as it’s fairly remote and there’s another large wedding venue nearby, so supply can be limited at times.

I attended my niece's wedding at The Compasses, having travelled from Australia to be there, and everything was well worth the trip. It was a beautiful day in every sense, perfect venue for a wedding, the staff were wonderful, and Jono the owner went above and beyond with his kindness to my family on the day. The Compasses at Pattiswick. Attended for Wedding and reception afterwards. Lovely venue with exposed beams, finished to very high standard. Bar and plenty room for whole day. Garden well kept and lovely tranquility place for celebrations. Car park adequate but best to arrange transport to minimise number of cars double parked. Loved the bespoke offerings in the toilet like mints, gel etc. Well done.

We finally got married in July of 2021, after 16 months of uncertainty and having to reschedule two times because of Covid-19. We are so grateful to the team at The Compasses for making our wedding day so fabulous. We and our guests had the best day, the only problem was that it ended too soon! To the whole team; we can’t thank you enough for all of the support that you gave us and all of the effort you put in, above and beyond what was necessary. On a couple of occasions, Jono was still on the phone to us at 10pm, reassuring us, explaining covid restrictions and answering our many questions. We felt so comfortable for the duration of the planning process and were never left in any doubt that everything was being handled. On the day, everything was seamless. The building looked beautiful and the weather was great. We were always confident that Paul had everything under control whilst remaining composed and attentive and we loved the cocktails that Jono prepared for our reception drinks. We can’t recommend The Compasses highly enough. We’ve been encouraging any newly engaged friends and family to consider it as a venue, just so that we can go back! We can only imagine all of the behind the scenes work that goes into making such a wonderful day happen and our fond memories of our day will last a lifetime.

We had our wedding ceremony and reception at The Compasses at Pattiswick in August 2021. It really was the most amazing, emotional, and beautiful day. We honestly believe there is no wedding team in the world that could have arranged our day and looked after us as well as the staff at The Compasses. Thank you to Jono for all of the assistance in booking, planning and rearranging our dates, he worked so hard and always with positivity and a smile in such awful times. It really felt like he shouldered some of the stress for us. Val was on hand and an invaluable part of the day in assisting the bridal party. Without her the bridesmaids would never have been able to find the bustle on the wedding dress! She was so knowledgeable about everything to do with the ceremony, it really helped calm the nerves!! Paul was on hand on the day, and to be honest there just aren’t the words to express our thanks for how well he did this. We trusted his advice at the planning meeting and he was so right on every account. He made our day what it was, and we thank our lucky stars we chose a venue with him at the helm. His tireless enthusiasm and passion for the job is just a joy to see, and something many of our guests commented on also. The whole team were amazing, every member of staff working on the day is a credit to The Compasses. Months on and we are still on cloud 9 from our wedding and get emotional looking at the photos. If anyone was considering having their wedding at The Compasses we would not be able to recommend this wedding venue enough.

Our experience with the Compasses was flawless. Firstly, the venue. It is stunning, and perfect for those looking for a smaller, cosier style wedding rather than an all out huge manor house and the like. It looks quaint from the outside, and inside is just magical for the ceremony, and in the evening is all compact enough that guests are kept together, but big enough to allow plenty of room to sit, stand, and dance. The senior management are professional and extremely helpful, supported by Charlaine who was constantly on hand to help with any of our queries, responsive, and finding solutions to the (non Compasses related) problems that we were experiencing. Solutions were always found to relieve our stress. The day was run perfectly and exactly as prescribed. Della was amazing on the day - both visible and invisible: which having worked in a wedding environment, it is fundamental to have the blend of both rather than one or the other. She ran it flawlessly and kept us on time, without any stress. The rest of the supporting staff were just as good. All the administration was settled very professionally and easily, minimal pressure applied, with support whenever we needed it. Financially - quite frankly a ridiculously good value for money. Perfect for those on a budget. We cannot be more grateful, and we would entirely recommend the venue.

From a Hair and Makeup Artist point of view the prep room is wonderful. Light, spacious and cool. There are 3 work stations and a wonderfully big mirror for those last minute checks!

We had our wedding at The Compasses and we couldn't have wished for a better day. From the moment we viewed the venue, we knew we wanted to get married there and didn’t even go and see any other venues as we knew no where else would be able to compare. We met with Paul and said that we wanted quite an informal wedding with a relaxed BBQ for the wedding breakfast. Paul was able to offer lots of suggestions that we wouldn't have thought of and we knew it was going to be the perfect day. Claire was great over email – answering our many questions and finalising all of the details. The wedding itself was perfect. Paul led us through the day, made sure we had everything we needed, put lunch aside for us and so on. The food was amazing, everyone complimented it! All of the staff were discreet but helpful – we loved it that one of the guys clearing glasses danced across the dance floor to tidy up, he was clearly having a good time too! The Compasses couldn’t be a more beautiful venue and was everything we could have hoped for and more. We want to thank the whole team for making our wedding so memorable – we only hope we know someone who gets married there so we can return!

Lovely old pub converted into a wedding venue that's full of character. You feel comfortable as soon as you walk in this light and airy building. The owners are very welcoming and are happy to chat about your upcoming event. Large garden with views over fields. Parking for 40 - 50 cars.

Thank you so much for the whole team at Compasses for our fantastic wedding day! As soon as we viewed the venue we knew that it was perfect for us. The countryside location is ideal and Paul, who hosted our show round was brilliant. He quickly helped us to realise that The Compasses had everything we wanted in a venue and was different to others we had seen in that it makes for a very chilled atmosphere and a wedding you can make your own rather than rigid packages and days with regimented timings. The lead up to our day was (like many) affected by a covid cancellation or two but the communication from the venue was excellent and their assistance in moving everything to new dates was pain-free and kind. On the lead up to the wedding Paul, Charlaine and the team helped to make sure that every detail was perfectly planned so that the day would run smoothly and it really did. As a bride one of the most stressful things is worrying that you're going to have to make sure that you remember everything on the day to ensure that it all happens as planned but with Paul and the team in charge on the day the worry has gone because they have it totally under control! The bridal prep room is the most perfect place and allowed a fantastic space for the bridal party to get ready. On top of this it was a sanctuary for me throughout the day and a quiet location for me to be able to feed our baby. As a venue overall it really did have everything we needed for our day. The room on the left as you enter was a perfect spot for older relatives to chill and have a chat in the evening, the bar area is spacious and the main reception room and dance floor was just great as guests were able to get up and dance or watch from one of the tables. If you are thinking about choosing this venue than I can honestly say go for it and you will not regret it! Thank you so much to The Compasses team for our dream day! A finally special mention for the food! How could I forget! The food was incredible and we had so much excellent feedback from our guests which is all you can hope for really. Just perfect. We got married at The Compasses at Pattiswick back in November 2018 and we couldn't recommend it highly enough! They gave us the most amazing day and we truly love the place and all the staff! We wanted a small intimate wedding where it was relaxed and everyone enjoyed themselves, and every one most certainly did!  I can't thank Paul enough for how he made us feel so welcome and made our day run so smoothly. All our friends and family have commented on how amazing the day was and the food was delicious. The Compasses really is a perfect venue and I already wish I could do it all again!

The staff are amazing and cannot do enough for you. They pride themselves on bespoke weddings and rightly so, nothing was too much. We cannot recommend The Compasses enough. We celebrated my daughter wedding at the Compasses on August the 4th, 2023. Beautiful place where the vintage blends with nature. Then we have the owner (Mr Johno) and his team. Amazingly professional, attention to detail, discret, presence, etc... I could go on. We and all the guests just loved it. Carry on the good job, guys. We will come back one day.
