Fab looking place. We visited on a "memory lane" trip to Wicken. Stopped for refreshments. Great building. Friendly staff. Seating area outside on the grass. Food looked good. Car park. Loos ok.

We were a large group who walked in without a reservation on a Saturday night. The friendly staff quickly arranged a couple of tables together for us. I had the sea bass and a cheese platter. Beautifully made and delicious. I would definitely go back again if I were close by

The Maid’s Head is back with a bang! Some nice simple upgrades alongside the usual warm welcome are bringing it back to life. Good menu range (big portions), reasonable prices, nice draft ales and they poor a good Guinness. What’s not to like!

What a beautiful place to eat and drink. The staff were fantastic. Food was well cooked and well presented. Covid safe environment. Seating outside or in. Inside tables were completely cleaned and disinfected after each customer.

I have been coming to the maids head for about 7 years. In that time I've eaten in and had lots to drink. I can say that I've always had a pleasant experience and it's for that reason that I will come here many more times. There are two sections of the Pub one for eating and one for drinking. On sunny days the garden and the front of the pub are beautiful places to sit and relax and take in the busyness of Wiken ;) The carpark is small and can get full quickly. There's not a lot of parking on the side streets

Went on a special theme night. Service was chaotic even though they weren't busy. They seemed agitated we hadn't booked, but it was mostly empty and remained so for time we were there. They were a little over precious about the pool table (new, and they have a league), because my 8 year old was using it with close adult supervision. She paid the money (no sign on it about use) and was being much more careful than many adults would. Meanwhile there were kids screaming and messing about on top of the tables outside.... Food however was excellent, kudos to the chef. Steak well cooked, sauce perfect, excellent tangy coleslaw. Vegetarian burger was huge and appreciated by recipient. Kids meal was good, but would have liked something healthy on the plate, as would my child (salad? Tomato or lettuce or pickle in burger?). Desert was excellent and well conceived (Biscoff cheesecake with a tangy fruit drizzle too). I understand it's under new ownership so hopefully it will settle in. Toilets and environment was clean. Discount for NT users on full price meals.

As other have mentioned…The Maids Head is under new management. We’ve only been in for dinner, but there’s a decent range of beers, the new decor is very clean and neutral and the food was excellent. A really good mix of pub classics and more fancy offerings. All really well thought out and cooked. Service was great too. So we we’ll definitely be back and great to have our pub back!

Under new management! Jamie and the team have done a great job overhauling the place, they truly understand what hospitality is. It’s cosy, it’s warm, it’s local, it’s welcoming to all, (inc 4 legged friends). Love the selection of wines, my husband likes the beers on offer. Small details like the quality of glasses and the layout in the bar make a big difference in the ambience. Thank you for giving us a lovely village pub, it’s the perfect refuge from the crazy world outside. Update: food was delicious! Cannot believe how slick day one of food service was, and how delicious every course was. Tried a good selection of the menu and it was all of a really high standard.

Oh, wow! What a fantastic surprise. The food - and the service - at the Maid's Head were both very, very fine. Cromer crab fresh from, well, Cromer. A pie that was all beef and no filler. A poutine simulacrum that was unlike anything else I have ever tried, and chips, CHIPS which my wife gave 10/10. Claire our server was an efficient delight. Worth going out of your way for.

The food was incredibly tasty. The chicken was so succulent, and we absolutely loved the pork belly and prawns. The doughnut balls and the white chocolate cheesecake were pure heaven. Definitely worth the wait. Thanks, Jamie, we can’t wait to try even more in the coming weeks!

Visited as I heard it was under new management. Only went for a drink, but was really impressed. The bar area is really cosy, with a fireplace in the corner. Somewhere I could absolutely pitch up and read a book with an ale or two. Speaking of ales - the selection was great, I was happy. Visited with my partner, and she had a G&T - good feedback there also. The area outside of Ely was lacking a decent, cosy, warming pub - so am thrilled to finally have one. Yet to try the food - but the general consensus amongst those who have eaten there is a resounding yum!

I’m a local and I want to say how much the new management has turned around this venue. The food, service and ambience were wonderful. It’s a credit that the Maid is once more a successful part of the village.

Had a very tasty meal here, friendly staff, great food, lovely log fire. We wish the new owners every success and will be coming back!

One of my friends recommended this pub to me, saying “they do the best roast” and after trying their Sunday roast, I can’t argue with that! I went for the beef, which was cooked perfectly and packed with flavour. The Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, vegetables, and rich gravy all came together beautifully. Honestly, it’s one of the best roasts I’ve had in the Fens.

One of the best sunday lunch. The roast potatoes & gravy i have ever had. Well done to all the staff. I revisited this place last Sunday. Oh what a disappointment it was. It certainly wasn't the same lady who cooked the 1st Sunday lunch I had. I took my mum and her friend, all had Sunday lunch, roast beef. We won't be going back that's for sure until the fair head lady cooks again.

B

Had the best Sunday roast, everything was so delicious! The service was so friendly. I'll definitely be going back.

Had a great roast here today and the pork belly bites for a starter were incredible. Lovely atmosphere and pub

A very tasty Sunday Roast with a delicious dessert (Bakewell Tart with ice-cream).

A good quality roast dinner, good selection of drinks, a fairly priced Sunday menu, will happily come back! :)

The arrival of a new landlord has seen the Maid's Head receive a subtle but welcome update.

Well-kept ales and tasty food - would recommend.

We went for a family meal today, thankfully we booked as it was very busy! We thought the service would be poor given the number of people eating, however we were pleasantly surprised. The menu is quite limited, but to be honest, I think that makes the quality of the food better and even with 2 fussy members of the party, we all found a number of things that we liked, so all good. The service was quite quick, polite and we all got what we ordered. The food was absolutely lovely, well cooked and very tasty. Would thoroughly recommend and will definitely come again!

Really turned this pub around with new management. Better ale, food, and service - worth a trip as a destination pub, now. Pork scratchings at the bar are excellent, too

Great service. Server was really efficient and upbeat. Music was a tad loud but we were sitting under speakers. Food was well cooked and presented and tasted good. Good value.

I came with my family and dog and they quickly gave us a table inside. Great food and great service👏👏 Worth coming here to have lunch if you are nearby.

Stopped and had a meal here for the first time on a Friday night. Great food, welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. Looking forward to going again.

We ate an evening meal here. It was out wedding anniversary. The staff were super friendly. The atmosphere was great, friendly and fun without being loud and boisterous. The food is good quality pub grub. We had fish and chips and sausage and mash. It was of a very nice quality and very well cooked. Prices are reasonable. Would throughly recommend it for anyone looking for a good quality pub meal.

Excellent understanding of my allergies and very accommodating, made me feel at ease! Very rare, so thank you! The others thoroughly enjoyed their dinner too. The whole team were friendly and helpful.

All our food was delicious, fresh and great value for money. The sausages were amazing and would highly recommend them. The fish and chips were also good …..I’m a big fan of chips and these did not disappoint! Didn’t think we’d have room for the sticky toffee pudding but it went down a treat!… We were made to feel welcome and even Hector (dog) who was given a bowl of water. Great dining experience We’ll be back!

A great country pub with a great chilling atmosphere. The bar staff went out of his way to make sure all our needs were met, wish there were more people like him other establishments, such a nice friendly man!

We booked a table and no issues. Had a nice burger with fresh vegetables on the food and salad was fresh. I liked the chunky chips and everything felt premium. Only let down was where we were seated. Would have preferred another table and should have asked. Has a car park and great fireplace. Would definitely recommend.

My last review of this pub/restaurant was not allowed to be published, and as my review said the pub would soon change management . Well it has been done, So I was correct in my review. We the Laz-E-Riders had a good meal with two very nice Real Ales. Lacons Encore and Lacons Falken. The 5 meals, came on a mixture of plates and pieces of wood, the sauses on the wooden platter had all fallen over and were dripping out thru the hole in the platter. One of our riders asked for a plate, which we all decamped our wooden meals onto. The plated fish and chips was very tasty two of the riders said! but you have to worry when they start counting the chips, one had 6 chips the other 11! I had the roast chicken on wood, which was very nice and my chips came in a small ramakin which I did not count. The home made coleslaw was delicious. My and others thoughts were burn the wooden plates on the wonderful open fire in the restaurant and carry on. Beer was great. I will tell the Haddenham Easyriders International so we too can stop here again.

Thought we would try The Maids Head now that it is under new management. We booked a table as we were not sure how busy it would be. However it was fairly quiet in the restaurant. Very good service and we were offered water on top of our drinks at the table. My husband had the fish and chips and I had the chicken both were very good and the chicken was very succulent. The chunky chips were great as well. We had ice cream and the donuts for desert. I was disappointed with the donuts as the chocolate sauce was just like chocolate water with bits in the bottom. There was not any substance to it at all. I did mention it to the waitress and she checked with the kitchen but it would appear that is how it is served. Overall a nice meal and I am sure that we will go again.

This Sundays roast was VERY disappointing. The whole plate arrived swimming in lukewarm gravey. The nut roast had the texture of thick porridge. The roast potatoes tasted like yesterday’s warm ups and half a carrot and parsnip hardly constituted vegetables. The beef arrived rare with no choice offered and overall we were very disappointed having read the reviews. Not recommended.

Just had a roast Beef Sunday lunch, food was perfect 👌 10/10, as was the Sticky Toffee pudding! Would definitely recommend to book!! Just yummy!!

R

Warm welcoming staff, dog friendly, prompt service and great food. It was a little cold inside could have done with the heating on otherwise a great visit.

L

Really good food and they went the extra mile for my birthday. Good service, not the quickest but it was good not to be rushed.

B
Brigitte Hyde

Very good for gluten and lactose free meals. Ate the most fabulous chocolate caramel tart, all gf & lactose free. Very friendly chef and staff.

P
Paul Mansfield

It was fairly quiet when we ate there as a group. The sausages were fairly good (just two!) but not that large, the gravy fine, the mashed potato and veg a little bland. Still felt hungry, when I arrived back at home I had a second (small) dinner!

J
Joanne Mawby

Went for Sunday lunch very disappointing! For a start had to get our own drink's off the bar they said would bring them over ,after 15mins they still sat there.Food came out no steam coming off the food whatsoever , everything was luke warm, red cabbage tasted burn't , broccoli hard i couldn't cut it , the beef was ok just not hot!My partner had pork he was expecting sliced pork not pork chop style with 1inch fat all around the outside which wasn't even crispy Dessert's were just ok . The whole meal was very expensive for what we got .

G
Graham De Meyer

Half of the menu was not available, food bland, overlooked and the cheesecake was probably the worst my wife has ever eaten. The pub was cold and service average at best.

T
Tommy

Tried going in for Saturday lunch but was abit early to are booking and the staff was very rude and didn’t make us feel welcome or wanted at all, we left and went somewhere else, we live in the village and would have gone regularly but most likely won’t go again now

j
janice frankham

The food was good but overpriced for the portion sizes. The waitress was surly and obviously didn't want to serve us.

V
Victoria Bradley

We had to sit in the bar side with our dog, which, for a Sunday afternoon was noisy. Although we had booked and our table was at 2.30 they had already run out of cauliflower cheese, the Yorkshire was stale, but beef was cooked nicely. The young table server was very polite The table was wobbly and surprised it didn’t collapse and there was Yorkshire pudding in the window ledge probably there from last week and the table was sticky ! Disappointing

M
Matt Jarvis

Resterant side. Good. Food was good n so was service. Went in another time, to pub side. Tiny bar, only served the locals until I pretty much shouted "come on love". Woman behind the bar took no responsibility for looking up to see who was actually next. Plenty of other pubs ill be taking my money to

D
Debs

Disappointing! £18 for a burger which I waited an hour for (and it wasn’t busy) and it was inedible. Poor quality meat that was over cooked. It was supposed to come with bacon and coleslaw, none of which was on the plate. Also, toilets are poor, no running hot water and very run down. If I had gone to the loo prior to ordering I would have left straight away. We will not be returning.

N
Norman Nicholls

Waited 40 mins for food although hardly anyone else in the restaurant. We both had chicken roast dinner which was one flat Yorkshire pudding 2 pieces of carrot and 2 slices parsnip with half a chicken laid on some cabbage It was one of the driest meals we’ve ever had as no gravy was served with the meal.2 dinners and one beer one gin and tonic £55.70 and without question the worst Sunday roast we’ve had Shame as it used to be a really nice place and food used to be lovely but on this occasion Weatherspoons would have possibly been better

J
J MB

No roast potatoes with roast dinner - wasn’t warned beforehand, no discount/compensation offered after spending >£18 per dish.
