I’ve eaten at Michelin star restaurants across the world, and I understand why Apropos was on the Michelin guide. I know it doesn’t have a star yet, but it has a lot of potential. We went for restaurant week and had a great experience. I was too busy eating that I didn’t take any photos of the first two courses, but here are some photos of our desserts. I tried the acorn soup, country hen, and Belgium chocolate dome. Everything was delicious. Our server, Johnny was hilarious and attentive. The front desk concierge was also kind and offered us cookies on our way out. The inn overall is very charming. The space is beautiful and I thought that the upstairs chapel was really cool. Would love to try the spa next time.
We are restaurant owners in the city and we can tell you that the cooking in Apropos stands up to good fine dining places in the city. We are so happy we decided to stay at the hotel and dine at Apropos. Our favorite bites were the tuna tartare and the duck breast. Amazing! Staff is efficient and friendly. Everyone knew it was my birthday because I marked it on the reservation. It seems simple but trust me, I don’t expect staff to know in most establishments. We will come back when in the area again.
Dinner was fantastic and here's a few reasons why to share the experience... Atmosphere - 10/10 > from the lush foliage outside, to the view of the Hudson, to the brick work facade of the Abbey; the visuals outside were flawless. Inside, the vibe was very quiet (minus our 4 year old screaming occasionally). The tables were neatly situated, flatware was spotless, glassware was magnificently maintained - it was great. The staff, specifically our server Jhonny, were all well versed on the menu items, the history of the Abbey, and the ingredients of the menu items. Jhonny was even kind enough to include a surprise in addition to my wife's birthday dessert; it was very pleasing. The menu - 10/10 > The menu was locally sourced to table, which was a nice surprise (reminiscent of 11 Mad in many ways). We're started off with a charcuterie for 2, along with a plate of burrata and mixed greens. The addition of the Red Leicester to the cheese offering was 👏🏼. The drinks were brilliantly blended - my wife had a Manhattan, I had a Moscow Mule (which wasn't watered down). On to the main course - I had the ravioli with spinach, ricotta, and ramps, and my wife had the sea bream and they were both to die for; my son was asking for spaghetti and meatballs which was not on the menu but Jhonny brought out rigatoni with a pomodoro sauce and this really made the night. The remainder of the FOH staff were remarkably pleasant and highly responsive. We'll continue to frequent the Abby as we live less than 2 miles away so major score for us.
The estate offers a truly remarkable experience, evoking a cinematic atmosphere. The expansive landscape and exploration of the castle grounds contribute to an exceptional visit. The historical significance of the site, coupled with the views of the Hudson River, are particularly noteworthy. The overall experience is quite breathtaking.
I came here for dinner with my husband and sister in law. She lives in the apartments next the Abbey, so we walked over. It was beautifully decorated with lights and looked stunning at night. I had wanted to order the sea bass but the waiter came back and told me they were out. So, my husband and I both ordered the salmon and my SIL ordered the duck. They brought rolls and butter out before our meals. The salmon was delicious! Perfectly cooked. My SIL ordered the panna cotta for dessert. Our bill for the 3 of us was $220. I used the lady’s room and it’s very nicely decorated. Very clean. Most of the restaurant was empty when we went. Outside is a gorgeous view! It’s a great place to have a drink and relax. I would definitely go back again. Hopefully they’ll have the sea bass available next time.

I don’t like being disappointed with meal, especially if not priced right. This location has received high praise over the years from various publications and food critics. This spot is a must if you are staying at the Abby Inn. If you can afford 500 a night hotel rooms then you can order freely off the menu. I must note that the bar area does offer a food and drink special happy hour that everyone can appreciate. You will normally find me here for the burger and fries. Ergo today was a special opportunity to try some fine dining dishes. The staff at Apropos, from behind the bar, to food runners, and even the management have been welcoming and make you feel that you belong.
It was our first time visiting Apropos. Beautiful landscape, food is beyond expectations especially the sea urchin chanwanmushi and pasta. Quality is way better than some of high end restaurants in Manhattan. Our server Johnny was very friendly and attentive, we enjoyed the conversation with him. We can’t wait to try their brunch.
Food was good, with the salad, chicken and cheesecake as highlights. The chicken was a bit dry but flavorful with the farro. The cheesecake was delicious. We saw a photo of the brownie that had a toasted marshmallow on it - sadly this is not what we ended up getting and it was underwhelming. The drink mostly tasted like pineapple juice, sweet and not interesting. Service was nice and friendly, and this restaurant has amazing views. Worth returning, especially for a special ocassion.
It is a very charming historic building with a very nice ambiance (home to The Abby Inn & Spa). The evening started with happy hour drinks from the bar. Dinner service we requested a table with a view of the Hudson. We also were able to walk putside to tale.photos before our food arrived. We started with the charcuterie tray, which was great. With meats, cheeses, fruit, and bread. Serves for 2-3 people. They were still serving the 'summer 3 course meal', which was wonderful. I suggest the wedge salad, swordfish, and hot fudge ice cream sundae. Our waiter 'Cole' was great and very attentive. He held our packages and even put a cake we brought to celebrate a birthday in their fridge. *To Note: Bringing your own cake comes with a $ 5 per person cutting fee. Parking is down the hill, quite a walk from the entrance in the dark, but doable.

I rented a small private dining room to celebrate my intimate wedding on Valentine’s Day, and it was truly wonderful. The food was outstanding, the service was impeccable, and the Hudson River views were stunning. I highly recommend this restaurant for events of any size. The clientele tends to be well-off, and the overall atmosphere reflects that. While we were there, a young man proposed to his girlfriend and even hired a photographer. The staff handled everything beautifully and were incredibly helpful in making the moment run smoothly. If you’re looking for a romantic place to propose, this is a fantastic choice: gorgeous views and attentive, supportive staff. As for the food—ignore the complaints. A Michelin-recommended restaurant will offer a menu that is elevated and intentionally different. If you enjoy a more refined dining experience, you’ll appreciate what they’re doing here. I didn’t stay at the hotel myself, but my parents did—and they also raved about their stay.

Our server was warm and attentive, making the evening seamless. With the top-notch service and atmosphere, we expected a hefty bill, but were pleasantly surprised that everything was very fairly priced. The service was impeccable. The staff was well trained and very friendly. The food, however, was a bit disappointing. We went for brunch and the bread was stale and a bit hard, the eggs lacked seasoning and the potatoes were overcooked. The drinks were perfect, and we loved the bartender’s recommendation.
My best friend took me out for dinner for my January birthday here. He made a reservation and all. He mentioned to the waiter…but he just wished me a happy birthday (usually in nice restaurants they would make it special…) -The place was empty. 2 more couples came later. -it was evening, so you can hardly view anything from the windows. But outside is beautiful-there were lights around (nice to come earlier for sunset, or day time to enjoy the view) -I got espresso martini- it was nice -my friend loved his beer-abbey ale 🦋 bread basket with butter for the table 🦋 we got the tuna tartar for appetizer (didn’t enjoy it…it was average, very small and nothing special). 🦋 we both got the pasta since we were in the mood for that. -chittarra pasta was good -fresh papperdelle was good When we were done with the dinner the waiter wanted to close us out. Then my best friend goes can you bring out the dessert menu so I get to wish her a happy birthday and put a candle on it or something. -we ordered the Belgium chocolate dome (it was alright , not my favorite) He served it to me with a candle and “happy birthday” On chocolate, thank you . Sweet. Overall nice place…but wouldn’t recommend to celebrate here. I’ve been to so many incredible restaurants and the dessert for birthday person is in the house…not here… Thank you.
Beautiful building, and scenery. Finding the actual restaurant is a bit tricky if you don't know where you are going. Went during Hudson Valley's restaurant week and tried the food on the prix fixe menu. The food was good, would try again. The portion was just right for me and my daughter. My salmon was a bit undercooked and the sauce a bit oily but the pasta Genovese I had as a starter was delicious. My picky daughter loved her Shirley Temple, and liked the minestrone but hated the garbanzo beans in it ( she is just not a fan of beans). She thought the roast chicken could use more flavor and the sauce a little too sweet. We both thought the potatoes were overcooked. She tried Creme Brule for the first time and thought it was not bad which surprised me. She loved how fresh the strawberry was. The highlight for her was the bread and butter. She loves freshly baked bread. She was delighted with how soft, and fluffy it was. She rarely eats butter but enjoyed the butter with the bread which tickled me. My sundae was enjoyable, not overly sweet, just the way I like it. The staff seemed pleasant. The atmosphere was relaxing. Overall an enjoyable experience for her and me.

The food was mediocre, the atmosphere like a Ashely furniture home store with young children screaming but all that wouldn’t even have been that bad if it wasn’t for how rude, inconsiderate, and judgmental Kaylee was. I was baffled at how much she went out of her way to be rude. I felt like she thought to herself “let’s place the cripple at the seat with the most foot traffic and in the lesser room at the worst table next to “lower quality clientele” aka clients with leopard prints and hoodies loudly yapping about some clubbing dresses” as she smirked at us while eying me up and down. When we arrived almost no table was taken… she could have seated us anywhere. I was uncomfortable all night trying to squeeze my broken foot under the table so waiters and guests won’t trip on it. We dressed nice and wanted to celebrate my husband’s special day but we felt financially taken advantage of. Throughout the night she kept pulling subtle stunts. She would also go in a corner to gossip with another co-worker while all other employees were hurrying service since they were understaffed that day (our dinner took 3+ hours). Why pay for a mediocre 3 course meal and be treated poorly at a former Michelin restaurant? Our waiter Tommy was wonderful. We still tipped well and hope our tip was given to him and not split. There was another woman who I didn’t catch the name of who was wonderful as well even though we only interacted with her over water and bread. The valet staff was also friendly, quick, and professional. We were considering choosing the Inn as a location for our second wedding celebration (the one with our international family and friends) but that’s a scrapped idea.

How does this place have a Michelin recommendation? 8am on a Monday morning you just opened no staff to be found. The front desk for the Inn had to seat everyone waiting. Out of the fresh daily pastries. I guess they are not that fresh. Waiter shows up 15 minutes after they opened. You could hear the front desk telling the chef “he will be walking through the door any minute” Shirt was untucked looking very unprofessional. Clearly rushed. Didn’t bother greeting us or introducing himself. Just walked up and asked if we wanted any drinks. I said water he turned around and walked away. There are two people at our table who needed drink orders. Menu is small, omelet came out broken open, over cooked and with cheap American cheese (menu didn’t say they are using processed crap cheese in the food). No choice of type of toast we wanted. My meal came with two quarter slices of toast, my wife’s came with 4 half slices. The menus made no mention of this not sure I got what I was paying for. Ordered blue berry muffin, it’s looked oddly like any mass produced frozen muffin you can buy at any wholesale store. Not impressed, outside was warm to the touch inside was cold. Clearly reheated. This chef should be ashamed of serving such crap! Tip do not order the $4 coffee. Walk around the corner and get the same coffee for free at the front desk. It is clear from a business standpoint this place is hurting financially and they are stating to cut cost. Not having staff show up early to prep and get ready, one waiter for 5 tables, had to go find him to get my check. Cheap ingredients and out of so called fresh items. Not worth the hype the bagel place in town was much better and had freshly made muffins. The best part was the large flies in the windows watching us eat and seeing the dead bugs on the windowsill. Long overdue review, as we dined there for Valentine's Day. We had been looking forward to Apropos as they were on a Best of Westchester list. Incredibly disappointing and a letdown! If you want your money to go to a great meal and service, this is not the place to do it. I felt terrible that my partner spent on a pre-fixed meal that was not worth it at all. For starters, the service was lacking. We were not acknowledged upon arriving and it took a good 10 minutes of standing awkwardly at the entrance to even get a "we'll be right with you" from the host. Once we were seated, our waiter meant well, but our food and drinks also took a long time. The wine list was misleading—we ordered a bottle and after 10+ minutes of waiting because "they were having a hard time finding that wine bottle," they brought out a 2021 when the menu listed a 2017. Big difference, so we ordered another bottle instead. Except this one also (pictured) was not the same year as in the menu. No difference in price of course, they'll still want you to pay what's on the menu, even though a younger wine should not be the same price. Food was not flavorful. The Shrimp Salad was supposed to have truffle—surprise! Not a hint of it on the dish. The Beef Wellington, which was supposed to be the highlight of dinner was incredibly overcooked. Ordered medium rare, but the reality was otherwise (pictured). Did not want to send it back to the kitchen as it had already taken ages to get our food. All in all, would not go back to Apropos and would not recommend to anyone.
How does this place have a Michelin recommendation? 8am on a Monday morning you just opened no staff to be found. The front desk for the Inn had to seat everyone waiting. Out of the fresh daily pastries. I guess they are not that fresh. Waiter shows up 15 minutes after they opened. You could hear the front desk telling the chef “he will be walking through the door any minute” Shirt was untucked looking very unprofessional. Clearly rushed. Didn’t bother greeting us or introducing himself. Just walked up and asked if we wanted any drinks. I said water he turned around and walked away. There are two people at our table who needed drink orders. Menu is small, omelet came out broken open, over cooked and with cheap American cheese (menu didn’t say they are using processed crap cheese in the food). No choice of type of toast we wanted. My meal came with two quarter slices of toast, my wife’s came with 4 half slices. The menus made no mention of this not sure I got what I was paying for. Ordered blue berry muffin, it’s looked oddly like any mass produced frozen muffin you can buy at any wholesale store. Not impressed, outside was warm to the touch inside was cold. Clearly reheated. This chef should be ashamed of serving such crap! Tip do not order the $4 coffee. Walk around the corner and get the same coffee for free at the front desk. It is clear from a business standpoint this place is hurting financially and they are stating to cut cost. Not having staff show up early to prep and get ready, one waiter for 5 tables, had to go find him to get my check. Cheap ingredients and out of so called fresh items. Not worth the hype the bagel place in town was much better and had freshly made muffins. The best part was the large flies in the windows watching us eat and seeing the dead bugs on the windowsill. So we went to the restaurant and had to wait while the person who was to seat us and was later our waiter was busy on the computer. We were finally acknowledged and seated. We ordered a bottle of wine which was the best part of the meal. Other than the wine, the service was terrible. I ordered the preset menu and the Acorn Soup was great, chicken was 1 piece of overcooked crispy chicken and French fries of all things. This was topped off by Lemon Cake that was at least two days old. The other dish was Pork Bellies that was just ok, and the Brussel Sprouts were inedible. The other dinner was just ok. The third dinner was just ok. The service was not good at all. We were waiting quite some time for dessert and the young lady who was supposed to deliver them was socializing holding the desserts so the waiter had to take them from her and deliver them to us. All in with tip $300.00. Never again and the Board Meeting I was going to

My Autumn Squash soup had a heavy sour cheese taste; my husband's fried squid was oily, tough, and the two sauces were broken, almost curdled in texture. My husband's second course, the ribs, were fine, though tough. My gratin was essentially mashed potatoes with a strong plastic/cardboard aftertaste. Our final courses were terrible. The caramelized cabbage pasta was tough and sour. My husband's pork was tough with hard fat chunks. Most confusing was the side of "pickled stone fruit" that came with the pork: they were unidentifiable in taste and texture (looked like a pear, tasted like a bitter potato; looked like a soggy plum, tasted like a mushy eggplant, maybe?). The wait staff was pleasant but it took very long for each course to come out and appeared to have forgotten my husband's request for a soda for quite a while. Only 45 minutes since our dinner and we are both sick to our stomachs. The venue outside has a beautiful view but inside, looks like a generic hotel, and the dining room in which we sat needed a bit of cleaning around the window sills. Perhaps the worst dining experience for us in a long, long time.
This place was built up to be great but what a FLOP. We made a res. for my wife's bday. . Arrived a little early and still waited half an hour for our table. After being seated, order was taken and got zero attention from our waiter. Received app as expected. The only attention came from a woman with water who was recruited from the caterer for an event going on. After an hour and half wait for food, I found our waiter and asked for the bill. He brought it, took payment without apology or explanation. What a waste of a birthday celebration at a nice restaurant. Don’t be fooled by the fancy awards.
