As the other reviewers mention this place is an absolute gem. Great service, welcoming atmosphere and amazing food. Be prepared to wait for a short while for a table to free up for your group. But make sure to go in and add your name to the waitlist. Interesting concept to order at the counter and then be shown to your table which was a refreshing take on the typical formula. Would recommend this place for anyone looking for a great breakfast spot.
Consistently tasty dishes that arrive looking just as good as they taste, with a menu offering plenty of variety. The vibe is warm and inviting, making it easy to settle in and enjoy the meal. My entree came with a crisp, fresh salad dressed in a perfectly balanced vinaigrette that didn’t overpower the greens. I also appreciated the solid selection of vegetarian options. The latte was such a standout that I couldn’t help ordering another before I’d even finished the first cup.
An excellent cafe for breakfast, brunch, or lunch that's an easy walk from anywhere near the capital square. I had the chicken quesadilla, which was amazing and not spicy unless you add the Valentina picante available at the table. Atmosphere is relaxed with counter service ordering that is served to your table. Lastly, this is a cafe after all, the coffee and espresso is delicious and presented with a bit of foam art when possible. I will definitely be back whenever I'm in the area.
SO GOODDD!!! Definitely the best breakfast place in madison!! The weekend morning wait can be long but it is soo worth it. The seasonal drinks are always really good, but they also have an amazing cortado and chai. The whole menu is really good, but my favorites are the chilaquiles and the lemon ricotta buckwheat pancakes.
High quality ingredients, served promptly and hot. I enjoyed the three grain tempeh bowl, while my my husband loved how the breakfast sandwich was prepared. Will definitely be back next time in Madison.
I visited for a brunch date on a Saturday morning and had a lovely time! There was a line when we got in but we were able to sit down immediately after ordering. Food came out quickly and it was delicious!
Homemade PSL was truly amazing. They have such an impressive latte menu. Very creative. The staff were very patient as I weighed my opinions. I got an omelet which was packed full of flavor. I will definitely will be back to try other menu items! Also, my friend brought her little toddler in a wheelchair and the staff were extremely accommodating and made us feel welcome! It definitely brought a smile to our faces!
We had the avocado toast and the mushroom omelette, both were very good. The potatoes that came with the omelette were crispy and delicious. The lattes were very good and came out quickly. The staff was very kind. Overall an excellent experience
I loved this place in college, post college, and now every time we come to visit from Hawai'i. The people are very nice, you order and pay, and then they bring your things to you. It is self serve water and does get a bit busy but that is how it works there so come early. The space is very cute and well lit. Feels homey every time. I almost always get the roasted sweet potato, kale, and pesto hash which is always a win. There are a few reviews that say the potatos are not great but I think they are fantastic. Seems just like a personal preference. This time I also got the ricotta pancakes which were amazing. They were hearty which was good because I also shared a little with my 16 mo old. My husband got the special scramble and the French toast 10/10. Also, if you visit, get the dollar donut holes. Worth every penny!
Absolutely loved this place! The vibe was amazing, the food was delicious, and I really enjoyed being able to order right away and sit wherever I felt comfortable—no waiting to be seated. The atmosphere was great, and the staff was very welcoming. Definitely coming back! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This place is VIBES! Yummy food. Great service. Warm, cozy atmosphere. My daughter and I were in town for a concert and stopped in for brunch before we left. We will definitely be back! ❤️❤️❤️
One of the best breakfast experiences I’ve had. Bacon cream cheese spinach omelette, pumpkin cheesecake pancakes and lemon ricotta pancakes were all delicious. We had to wait in line but they were efficient and communicative. Well worth the wait.
This place has it figured out. It is SO busy, and SO worth it. We waited but the wait staff were moving people in and out like a well oiled machine. I was impressed with the gluten free options, the flavors were great. If you eat low glycemic, this is the stop! Healthy and yummy. We will definitely be back.
Amazing spot in the beautiful downtown area! People were friendly, atmosphere was chill and food tasted great and healthy! Thank you! 🙏🏼
Delicious cinnamon roll pancakes and quesadillas. Also loved their soup of the day. Very friendly service.
Stayed overnight by the Capitol and didnt was the hotel food. 7 min walk to Marigold. Tucked away on the side street i entered to the smell of coffee and bacon. Staff was friendly and helpful while lobbiest from the house up the street talked to a representative. College kids sucked down caffeine, and I devoured a chorizo omelet and oatmeal butterscotch pancakes 🥞. My life will never be the same. You had me at free refills on drip mam. Come get it!
Full disclosure - you will wait, and it will be worth every single minute. if there's no line, you might be in the wrong place. The efficiency of the front of house staff, from the greeter, to the counter staff, to the expediters, was unmatched in my experience and is likely a large part of their continued success. I'm from (south) Florida and the Cubano couldn't have been better if I had been sitting at a South Beach café. The food was exciting, refreshing, and delicious. Marigold Kitchen is a gem in downtown Madison.
Cute place with a clearly labeled menu for gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan. Many options for all of them. The staff is kind, knowledgeable, and patient with questions about food allergies. I felt very safe eating here with celiac disease and even enjoyed chilaquiles for the first time in 20 years! It was full of flavor and freshness! Fresh squeezed orange juice too! My favorite breakfast I’ve gotten probably ever!
Was super crowded at lunchtime and entirely full with a waiting time of 20 minutes (estimated). I got a turkey sandwich to go. Took about ten minutes. No complaints at all. Was certainly loud inside, so not best for lunchtime discussions. Next time I go I'll pick a between breakfast and lunch time slot. Lol. Good food. Best sandwich I've ever had, no, but great for the area. Might do breakfast there tomorrow. Staff was very helpful for a tourist who didn't know what to do a super crowded place.
When you get to the restaurant, you’ll most likely see a line of people out the door waiting to be seated. At a traditional restaurant, this surely would take hours until you get a table. Not at Marigold Kitchen. Waitresses will come by and give you your table number and a menu while you’re waiting. I’d say the line was 25 people deep when we arrived and it took us only a little over 20 minutes to get seated. When you get to the restaurant, you order at the register and the food comes out fast. I got the Huevos Rancheros and my wife got a quesadilla. Both were AMAZING! Fresh seasonal ingredients as well as complex dishes made from scratch make these meals memorable. Portion sizes are also great and you’ll surely leave either full or full with leftovers in your hand. I highly recommend if you see the line, just wait, at least once. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
This is my favorite breakfast place in Madison, it’s in a good and convenient location, especially if you want to go to the farmers market, the atmosphere is so good, there are plenty of vegetarian options, and if you time it right then you won’t have to wait long. You order at the counter and get your own water. They bring you your food. A little pricey all things considered, especially once you add gratuity. How much do you add when you order at the counter and have to get your own water? 10%, 15%? I usually do 20% but seems not quite right. They probably include tax in the amount they are calculating the gratuity on. You’ll significantly improve your chances of getting a table sooner the smaller the group of people you go with—2-3 is faster, and if you go just a teeny bit earlier in the morning you’ll get a table sooner too—none of which is not surprising but is helpful.
If you’re looking for a hearty yummy brunch, this is definitely a place to go. Great selection of breakfast/brunch options. But be aware that there is almost always a waiting line and about 15-30 min wait time. Pancakes and omelets are tasty, signature potatoes are a quite spicy. My partner loves their chilaquiles. The service is always good and friendly, but it’s also very loud there and tables are located very close to each other. This place is very popular!
Delicious food with many options to choose from. Friendly atmosphere. The salad included with my entree was super fresh and had a delicious light vinaigrette dressing. Plenty of veggie options. I ordered a latte, and it was so good, I ordered a second before I was finished with the first.
Busy on a weekday morning, but the line moved reasonably fast. A staff member was also assisting customers with finding appropriate seating, which was helpful. The chilaquiles were delicious, loaded with meat, and surprisingly spicy—no complaints though! The blueberry lemonade was sweet and had a nice fresh berry flavor. Would visit again!
In town visiting friends and stopped in here for breakfast. Nice ambiance with warm lighting and lots of plants. The food (sweet potato hash, chai turmeric latte, buckwheat pancakes) was excellent; all of it was well made, especially the latte. Additionally, the staff were friendly and there were lots of them who checked in with me. Would definitely go back.
Take note of the sign to grab a menu and order at the front before you sit down. The food is excellent. I had a ham and gruyere omelet with greens on the side and my wife had a breakfast sandwich. The bread was very tasty and everything is made with fresh wholesome ingredients. The service was very speedy and friendly and the cafe is cute and cozy. There's outdoor seating when the weather is permitting.
Had the burrito bowl and it was awesome! Everything about it was great, especially the slaw! The coffee and scone was also great!
The food is delicious. Great options for vegetarian meals. The Chilaquiles are fantastic. I also had the tasty Roasted sweet potato kale and pesto hash The Lemon Ricotta Buckwheat (whole grain pancakes with berries). I definitely will come back again!
Outstanding vibe and incredible food! We came for a college tour, and I want to come back just for the food! 20 minute wait outside on a sunny Sunday morning for a table. The decor and fresh flowers were so fun!
MariGold Kitchen is one of the restaurant in Madison city. I like this restaurant so much. It has very good food, nice service, and wonderful atmosphere. Its location which is near by the capital of Madison makes this restaurant easy to find. In my visit, I have very nice avocado-black bean-sweet corn WRAP and Creamy Tomato soup. I like this restaurant.
Excellent restaurant with unique options for a great breakfast/brunch. I had the mushroom omelet with their house potatos. Delicious! The vibe of the place is really nice as well. And walking distance to the capitol and state street which is where I was headed! I'll definitely come back here when I return to Madison.
The best little place! We loved it so much we went twice on our 3-day visit to Madison. The breakfast hash was 1000/10 and the churro latte was amazing. Highly recommend stopping by!
Not only is the food here is INCREDIBLE, but so is the atmosphere. The space is vibrant and open, yet cozy at the same time. The owners are wonderful humans and have created a welcoming and accepting space. I love it here and will keep coming back.
Walked over from our hotel, a great stroll as this restaurant is a neighborhood gem in downtown Madison. We ordered an omelette and Huevos Rancheros, DELICIOUS! light and tasty. Be ready to read a menu quick and make a decision because this is an order at counter/pay, and get served at your table. We chose outside, but locals appear to prefer the indoor space, both charming.
This was a last minute find passing through Madison on a road trip. I ordered the roasted sweet potato, kale, pesto hash and a biscoff oat milk latte. I've grown to love a side salad with breakfast. I loved the salad dressing. Marigold did not disappoint. I am glad I took pics as I devoured both so quickly! The ambiance is super cute (see pic of little gnomes in a pot) and the staff was very friendly. You order at the counter and the food comes out very fast! I wish I had a place like this where I live.
Awesome coffee drinks and food was amazing. Significant amount of chicken on the chilaquiles.
Very cute place! I ordered the tempeh/grain bowl made vegan and an oat milk latte and both were delicious. Highly recommend for great vegan options in town! Update- back in town and it’s just as delicious and I remembered!! Definitely a must-visit in Madison
Food was incredibly delicious. The Oatmilk Horchata Latte was deadly and the omelets were perfectly done. Service was timely and everyone was so sweet and nice and helpful. Here from out of town but when we return we will be visiting again!!♡
Really good brunch food. The service is a bit odd. You order at the counter when you walk in and then they deliver your food to your table. This is fine but you don't have a dedicated person waiting on your table so if you need anything during hour visit I guess you have to go up to the counter again which is fine just a bit different
Absolutely outstanding breakfast experience. I ordered a London Fog with lavender and oat milk, and it was hands-down the best London Fog I’ve ever had, and I’ve had many. Perfectly balanced, fragrant, and comforting. For food, I had the roasted sweet potato, kale & pesto hash, paired with a homemade cinnamon-sugar beignet. Everything was delicious, thoughtfully prepared, and incredibly satisfying. Service was excellent and friendly, and despite arriving early, everything came out quickly and efficiently. By around 8 a.m. on Saturday, the place was already buzzing, which says a lot. Great meal, great service, great energy. Can’t wait to come back.
Marigolds is a staple in the rotation for my friends and family. The waitstaff is always so friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is so cozy and cheerful. The food is so so delicious, and always makes so excited. Delicious coffee, teas, baked goods as well, so yum. Great vibes 10/10 ❤️❤️❤️🙏
Great place right by the Square. We had to wait out on the sidewalk for about 30 minutes, but they are on it. Your name gets taken, an estimated wait time is given, a little while later they come back with menus, then back again with a table number for you to hold, and before you know that you’re inside. you place your order at the counter, and pay for everything right there. Then obviously you take your table number to the table. Very cool place inside. We went there for brunch and had the breakfast sandwich and the scrambler. Only thing that I would change is that our food was warm and not hot. Like, “debating about sending it back warm” but then it’s like, “ugh, we waited a long time and I’m hungry.” It was really good though. The cafe cubano was also awesome.
Food is good but is it worth hype and the wait? It is chaos in here.
Great, reliable food, well-plated. Really loud inside, cars + construction outside. 🤷♀️
We recently tried this spot in Madison for breakfast and had a pleasant experience overall. Here's what we ordered: Scrambled eggs with greens and whole grain toast: 8/10 Fried eggs over easy with greens and multigrain toast: 8/10 Zucchini omelette with goat cheese and sourdough toast: 9/10 Sweet potato kale hash: 9/10 Orange juice, which was conveniently bottled, perfect to grab a few for the road. The food was okay, and the staff was friendly. Nothing particularly stood out, but everything was enjoyable. I’d consider coming back again.
We went for a Friday brunch and it was super busy, but the staff got us seated almost right away. That was a fun surprise! Then you order at the counter, so there isn’t a wait for that either. The food was tasty and the coffee was great!
The interiors, atmosphere and service are super amazing here. However, I do feel that the food is a bit overhyped and not worth a 45-minute wait (we went on a weekend). We ordered the Chilaquiles, buttermilk pancakes, mushroom and gouda omlette and the churro latte.
The place is a bit over crowded and overated. When you finally get a seat the place is noisy. Service is swift, food nicely served but some stuff(hush brown?potatoes?) tasted a bit overcooked. Coffee and bacon were excellent.
Pretty good food but a bit bland like it wasn't seasoned enough. I had the marigold breakfast sandwich and it was a bit too much bread and needed some spinach or some other greens. Well probably be back to try something else because the food was made and cooked well. This place feels like it has great potential but fell a bit flat for our first time.
First, I would like to say this place looks really nice. The smells of the food was amazing. The customer service was super friendly and the pastry display made me wanna buy one of everything. I went in wanting a breakfast burrito and I had my typical breakfast burrito expectations but when I read the ingredients I noticed that they had sweet potato fries in this breakfast burrito. I'm not a fan of sweet potato fries, so I asked to substitute with regular fries. The cashier lady told me they don't do substitutions because they can't figure out the math on how to substitute certain items, so they just don't do substitutions. That was a disappointment for me because it's not that hard to swap out sweet potato fries for regular french fries, in a breakfast item, either way I ask for the breakfast burrito without sweet potato fries. I also asked about the cranberry scone, which looked amazing and she told me it was so I did. so long story short I ordered our items to go and the scone was amazing. That was the first thing I got as for the breakfast burrito I was not a fan. As you can see my images, the breakfast burrito looks super sloppy the beans sauce was dripping, which overpowered the eggs. The red peppers were nice and I'm not sure if it was nuts or the beans, but there was a crunchy item that just did not work for me. The cabbage green salad was not appetizing at all wasn't a fan of it smelled funny and I tried. It just wasn't for me. This was a very sloppy breakfast burrito and it felt lacking and I wouldn't order this again. But would I come back? Yes I would. I just won't be so adventurous with picking a breakfast dish and just pick a basic breakfast item.
