Great food, speedy service, and friendly staff make this little place a fantastic find
Pavia has surprised me in recent years with the quality of its Chinese restaurants. Manchurian restaurant Dufu had long been on my bucket list, especially since I lived in Shenyang, one of Manchuria's main cities, in 2017 and longed to rediscover the region's authentic flavors. The experience at Dufu was a true blast from the past. Every dish was incredible, homemade with ingredients typical of Chinese specialties. Dinner began with handmade dumplings filled with Chinese spring onions: their flavor took me back to the delicious dishes I'd enjoyed with a local chef in China. The stir-fried noodles were equally exceptional: flavorful and light, with just the right balance of seasonings, and not at all greasy. We then shared three main courses: the Gongbao shrimp, both spicy and flavorful; the crispy sweet and sour pork, with a batter I've rarely found elsewhere; and the dish that won me over the most, the lamb with cumin and onions. The meat was very thin, tender, and full of flavor; I would return to Dufu now just to savor this dish again. The dessert was also excellent: the mochi had the right consistency and wasn't overly sweet. The staff was friendly and attentive, with special mention for Mrs. Cinzia's kindness. Although slightly more expensive than other Chinese restaurants, every penny was more than worth it. A top rating, congratulations!!
Love eating here!
Excellent Chinese restaurant, dishes taste similar to home made food. If you want to try authentic Chinese food, definitely try this spot.
Excellent north China restaurant. Food is authentic with fresh and high quality ingredients.
I loved the food in this restaurant, as it really tastes authentic. Just as people don't talk about European food - pasta with saurkraut? - Ristorante Dufu allows you to try dishes you may not be familiar with. Excellent, friendly service, and you can even try out your Chinese with the owner - 'Nihou' - Hello!
Authentic Northeastern Chinese cuisine, friendly and nice owners! The food is amazing and it is not easy to find Manchurian style Chinese food in Europe. Chef and owner are both from Northeastern China. I recommend their handmade dumplings, maiale croccante con salsa di soia aromatica (溜肉段), and Mochi della signora Cinzia (handmade). The authenticity of their food beats 90% Chinese restaurants in Milan or New York.
Great place to try authentic Chinese dishes. Everything is cooked at the moment by the lovely owner and her husband. Will definitely go back again!
We tried a lot of plates, they were all good and tasty, the place os cozy, owners are very kind. Perfect experience and highly recommended
Very good!!
My go-to Chinese restaurant, Dufu, is now a regular stop almost every week, so I can't recommend it enough! Lunch at Dufu is like being a guest at a friend's house: the place is intimate and the staff is incredibly friendly—the owner even helps me practice my Chinese! The food is delicious, freshly cooked, and incredibly flavorful: trust me, I've tried at least half the menu! The dishes are quite generous, and the restaurant also offers a set lunch menu with several options at an excellent price. If you stop by, you absolutely must try the ravioli, their signature dish, and the mochi (moon cake or yuèbing) made with chestnut paste.
Absolutely amazing. We ordered a little bit of everything to see how Dufu compares to the other Chinese restaurants in town, and we all ended up overstuffed because every dish was fantastic. Lots of options for vegetarians, too.
As soon as you enter, you immediately realize that the food is the star here: the place is simple, the atmosphere casual yet welcoming. The service is quick and friendly, without frills. The menu is a real surprise: typical Manchurian dishes, a cuisine that blends Chinese, Mongolian, and Russian influences. I started with the boiled dumplings filled with pork and shrimp: delicate, yet with a bold flavor. Then the cod broth with tofu, intense and comforting. The highlight? The bacon braised in a red tofu sauce: soft, flavorful, with a captivating spicy note. I also tried the lamb skewers and the steamed rice and pumpkin parcel with chestnut cream: a simple yet surprising dessert.
Typical Manchurian cuisine. The quality is high. The handmade dumplings are a must-try. The other dishes are generally better than at other Chinese restaurants. Of course, they charge for the quality, so the prices can seem a bit high. Recommended.
I visited this restaurant one weeknight with a reservation since there were a lot of us. The restaurant is small, well-decorated, and extends along a corridor that ends with the open kitchen; the tables are well-spaced. As soon as you enter, the smell of fried food is noticeable. We tried several dishes, and most were very good (I particularly enjoyed the meat ravioli and the pork with Peking sauce). The service could be improved with a few small improvements (e.g., more attention to the delivery of dishes, clearer descriptions, etc.), but it's still there. Cinzia, the owner, is friendly and available to offer suggestions. She offered us limoncello at the end of the evening (their bitters are excellent). The prices are reasonable. Overall, I'd recommend this place for a quiet, unpretentious evening. I'll definitely be back.
The cold dishes were okay, but at 9 euros, the portion sizes were outrageous. The "homemade tofu" (as pictured) was different from the menu picture, which is understandable, but it was completely unrelated to the original, which was ridiculous. The starch slurry was lumpy, the seasoning was basically just soy sauce, and the side dish was just a few slices of carrot. When it first arrived, I thought I had ordered the wrong dish. The starch in the "Guobaorou" (sweet and sour pork) was a full centimeter thick – I've never seen anything like it! I suggest renaming it "Guobaodou Starch" (sweet and sour pork with starch)! The only decent dish was the dumplings – 6 for 8 euros…acceptable. If you weren't tired and hungry from your trip, you definitely wouldn't have forced yourself to finish them. There were only two tables occupied at lunchtime, but don't underestimate that; the owner isn't just running the restaurant for nothing. The reviews used to be good, and that's what I came to the restaurant based on those reviews, but look at how many years ago that was! Now they're definitely ripping off customers. I came because the owner is from Northeast China and they serve Northeastern cuisine, but it completely ruined my trip. When we left, the owner's wife asked us how it was, but I couldn't say anything directly. I just hope the owner stops ruining the reputation of Chinese food! In short, if you want Chinese food, definitely don't come here! If you absolutely have to eat here, then it's worth the lesson. But if you take the advice, just go to Milan; it's only a 20-minute train ride, and any Chinese restaurant there will be much better.
