This is a great place to eat. My parents and I go here occasionally and I've never had a bad plate of food. Customer service is top-notch and will return again. Some Saturdays can be extremely busy, so prepare for a line at the door. However it's worth the wait.
By far the MOST delicious country gravy I have ever had, most of the time country gravy tastes like bland thick watery flour. This was the right amount of thickness and flavorful. The country fried steak was crispy and NOT greasy, as were the crispy home fries. Also for a place with carpet interior, this place was CLEAN. And that’s coming from someone with asthma who is sensitive to any dust. Definitely coming back.
This is my favorite breakfast place. The prices are better than everywhere else. The menu is big. The food is delicious. We get here at about 10 on Sunday and there's plenty of seating before it starts filling up. It's usually packed by the time we leave. It's a real mix of people here but we all like the same thing: good food at a good price.
OMG. What a find! The Texas family-restaurant tradition is alive and well here in Plano. The staff are some of the best I've seen anywhere. Most have been with the restaurant for a long time. They offer traditional country breakfast and lunch, and they know how to prepare it. You just tell'em what you want and how you want it and you'll get it. Really great coffee, too.
I got the Pecan Waffle breakfast with eggs over easy, sausage patties, home fries, and my friend got a veggie omelette It was SUPER busy due to it being a holiday but we didn't have to wait for our booth, and only had to wait a few minutes to get our waters and my coffee Their coffee is very decent coffee, nothing mind blowing and very normal tasting which is perfect for a diner coffee 💖 it's BLAZING hot so be careful!! I had to keep adding ice cubes from my water to my coffee but I'm not complaining, hot coffee is awesome! My eggs over easy were cooked perfectly Potatoes were decent normal fried potatoes Sausage patties were good The Pecan Waffle was DELIGHTFUL. very yummy and crispy and the inside was light and tender. I appreciate that the food is a tiny bit undersalted but has good flavor, I just had to add a bit of table salt and it was perfect. I think this is a very positive thing, its objectively healthier for people to be able to add their own salt at the table and not have to specifically ask for a low salt meal. The diner is 53 years and running so expect a very cozy classic American diner environment with seasonal decor. The tables and chairs have a gorgeous worn down appearance but everything is very clean and well loved. Most of the other diners were elderly couples, or very large multi family groups which I assumed were holiday visitors. I felt a bit out of place being one of the youngest couples in there, but the wait staff were very friendly and attentive 💖💖 The dining area is MASSIVE, there is plenty of booth and table seating, and there is enough space for groups of 12+ people to push tables together and eat together 💖 The prices were very reasonable for the portion sizes, not inexpensive but not overpriced at all. If y'all are looking for a very comfy and normal American Diner experience this is absolutely it. I so appreciate that they aren't trying to do anything touristy or over the top, it's just really good American Diner food and a cozy American Diner environment 🥰💖💖 Bonus points because they have multiple awards showing their dedication to charity and helping Military Veterans. Bring your whole family here for breakfast!
ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE. When traveling to visit family in TX, we ALWAYS have to stop in here atleast once. Maybe even 2-3 times. The staff is wonderful. The place is always clean. The food is delicious and very plentiful. Love their homemade biscuits.
I always end up here when craving waffles or pancakes and get their waffle and chicken tenders quite often when visiting. Very nice atmosphere and a big menu serving lunch and breakfast items! The waitresses are very attentive and nice, the wait time for food seems to be quick everytime I go.
I love this restaurant! I love the eggs Benedict here! The fried okra is also a favorite! The staff always remembers me and asks where I have been if I don’t come often! It’s the kinda of place that makes you feel like family! The servers know my order, and know I will need to take half of it go… cause they pay attention and remember! I love introducing people to this gem! Clever fun shirts and if you are military family, come around a military holiday and find your flag up in the restaurant! They even have a mailbox like deposit area to correctly dispose old flags if you have gotten a new flag to proudly fly and need to correctly discard your old flag! Staff owned and delicious! My favorite breakfast spot in the state!!!
When I walked in I could tell it was going to be a good place to eat because I saw lots of senior citizens seated at tables and they looked to be happy and enjoying their food. And I was right I ordered the chicken breast steak mashed potatoes with cream gravy fried okra just look at my grandma used to make, highly recommended.
If you’re looking for a fantastic breakfast spot, I highly recommend Poor Richards! This place combines cozy ambiance with an impressive variety of breakfast options. Their pancakes are fluffy and perfectly golden, while the Vegetarian Omelet is generously filled and fresh. The coffee is rich, smooth, and always served piping hot. Service is attentive without being overwhelming, and the staff is genuinely friendly. Whether you’re into traditional breakfast or looking for some creative twists, they have something that’s sure to start your day off right.
We love Poor Richard's Cafe. My husband has eaten here several times, so this time. I decided to go because he bragged on it so much!!! And so when we got there, and it was awesome !!!! We had a great host who seated us, a beautiful and friendly waitress who gave us awesome service and was very attentive. We received the most delicious food within about 10-15 minutes. Everything was beautifully eye desirable 😋 The place is beautifully decorated with American style decor and a place where veterans can feel right at home. My husband is a vet, so it felt very special to us.On our way out, to pay, we meet another friendly and kind cashier!!!! Thank you, Poor Richard, for a great meal and a comfortable place to feel at home!!!! Mardianne and Barry
Excellent service with smiles and good humor all around. James, the manager stopped by each table to say hello and make sure the food and service were top notch...which they were. Didn't think I could finish the Big Tex chicken fried steak but I did....it was sooooo good! Update: New owner, same awesome food and excellent service! Big Tex chicken fried steak is still my favorite. They had butter beans with bacon bits that was very tasty 😃

my all time favorite chicken fried steak, they dont do it like here anywhere else, get it with home fries!
Delicious Eggs Benedict! Wonderful service in a classic cafe atmosphere that takes you back to a simpler time in a once small town. Plano has exploded but somehow Poor Richard's has kept its charm.
Food was hot and excellent.\nService was great, my coffee and water glass were never half full.
A silent gem in Plano. I wasn't ready for the amazing home cooked(close enough) food. The service was great. Not a long wait so that was convenient. Will be back with my family.
Service was great, we were greeted and seated immediately. The waitress was thorough and helpful. Food was fast, tasty and portions were great. Will definitely visit when back in town!

This was our first. We went on a Saturday morning. They were very busy but able to see 4 of with no wait. The staff was super friendly and helpful. I will return.
Great breakfast stop. Scrambled eggs with ham and biscuits and gravy Good location plenty of parking Good staff and roomy place Alot of flavors including biscuits and gravy
Saturday morning visit, first visit. No wait for a party of six. The food was good overall. Multiple people ordered the home fries and somehow one order was cold. The server did bring a hot order out as a replacement. You're able to grab additional condiments from nearby carts that also have to go containers. It is a family spot so at times it was noisy but overall the noise level was fine. Good home cooked breakfast.
Jan 28 My first time to this local diner that serves breakfast all day long along with traditional American cuisine. The menu was pretty extensive! Lots of wonderful choices! I went with a group from work and was tempted to get the chicken fried steak but had just eaten that somewhere else a few days earlier so I opted for a bacon burger and wrinkle cut fries and sweet tea. The burger was juicy and not over cooked and was topped with lettuce, tomato and onions. Service was great!! Friendly and attentive folks!! Several of my coworkers got breakfast items and generally were pleased except the one who ordered steak and eggs as the steak was over done and a little dry. Another had the “regular” chicken fried steak and couldn’t finish it but liked it a lot!
First off I looked at the reviews and the few negative ones were really negative. So, going in I had lower than normal expectations. Here is what MY impressions are. Well looking at the clientele on a Wednesday morning, they are seniors and very Texan. Texan in the sense they are friendly and cordial. The atmosphere is the same. Country vibes with a lot of positive quotes and awards from local teachers, firefighters, and veterans. It is a resturant that I have been to that is that active in the community. They are proud to display the American flag and also work with a program that allows you can take your old American flags to be properly retired. This may trigger some people to also write a bad review. The resturant is cleaner than most Denny's I have been to and friendlier as well. Now that being said, many people do not have patience on the weekend. I ordered the Texas Breakfast. Reasonable price and not over seasoned with salt. The negative reviews were all stating not seasoned well they obviously are used to franchises who heavily season their food. They cater to thier clientele. Nothing fancy here. In a nutshell, if you get offended by people who support their veterans, first responders, and teachers; then it may not be the best place for breakfast. If you want over heavily seaoned food; they have salt, pepper, hotsauce, and many other 'fancy' seasonings to choose from. If you want country style food at a reasonable price and a friendly staff/clientele; than this is a good place to stop.

Old school American diner. Flags and Americana are everywhere! \nWait staff works as a team and are so nice! \nThe portions of food are large and the coffee never stops!

I had been going to poor Richards since I relocated to the area in 2003, I have wonderful memories of great breakfast and lunch with coworkers, today I visited with my wife and I was thoroughly disappointed in the food quality. Like they said you can never go home and this not very good meal I guess will be my last for poor Richards. For the price you can find better options so pass this place by.
I haven't been to Poor Richard's for many years-More than 10. And back then had good experiences. Thus wasn't a good one. If you like onion rings avoid these. Not so crispy, not so large, and not so tasty. The chicken fried steak was super thin and lacked flavor. The gravy couldn't repair what had been put on the plate. Am I being harsh? I considered a 2 star rating but the service was friendly. I won't be back.
First of all I loved that their hasbrowns came out crispy without having to ask!! Weird thst hashbrowns aren't on their menu, only "home fries" but maybe that's what they call them? I've never seen gravy used for eggs Benedict so that was different and not what I was wanting. The ham was really juicy though. I never got a refill on my coffee. I'll be back to try a different breakfast menu item and give them another go.
We requested a booth. We were taken to the only booth across the spacious dining area that had torn upholstery despite more than 15 (yes, I counted ' em) empty booths along the way. Don't know the reason but clearly demonstrated the attitude of the person to offer a worthy experience to a First-Time diner. The service was very, very good - not possible to even nit-pick. Very hardworking team of personnel - each person performing the assigned duties flawlessly. The food had no distinctive touch. After all, when requesting tomatoes for sides one is served with two very thin slices of a large tomato. The hash browns were neither brown nor golden. Wonder why the rush when the place was not busy. The menu choices were myopic for those with dietary challenges. Don't need rationalization when there are competitive alternatives elsewhere. The menu has not changed (just guessing) in years and probably works well for its regular patrons. There is a secluded dining area which looked cozy with six-plus tables for group meetings.
This is an established Plano Cafe, has been around since 1973. Came in for breakfast. Excellent service, has a homey feel. The biscuit was doughy, buttery and moist. The pancakes were fluffy and somewhat sweet. The steak and eggs, was 6/10, great flavor, cooked correctly, but the steak was a tough piece of meat. My request for extra crispy hash browns was delivered. The coffee was good, with lots of refills!!! Worth the try!
Horrible! There was a 35 min wait on a small order. Once I came in a still had to wait for an extra 25 mins. \n\nI used to come here often growing up and sadly it's just not the same...
Mediocre food and slow service. Lots of staff sitting just around. We came too close to closing. I think the restaurant is resting on past laurels.

Im not a fan of restaurants that don't honor their own menu. I dont come here often and won't be back at all now. The menu offers a southern breakfast eggs meat biscuit and sausage gravy w the fixins. The fixins on the menu is potatoes or grits and biscuits and gravy or pancake. The waitress said i know it says w the fixins but we dont since it comes w biscuits and gravy already. I ask for the manager. I literally have to read and point out what her menu says and her response is your right I can't even argue w that. She leaves and never returns to explain or make anything right. Not ok Poor Richard's.
So very disappointed. Came in for breakfast on a Sunday and it was a super cute hole in the wall breakfast diner feel! However... The food was about as bad as it could be. I ordered the chopped steak and eggs... I don't know why she asked how I wanted it cooked because what I got was a burger patty. It wasn't bad enough that it was an overcooked frozen burger patty .. it was totally bland/unseasoned. The home fries were the worst I think I've ever had to be honest... Also completely unseasoned and chopped to different sizes so as to overcook some and be mushy. The biscuit was clealy a frozen one as well and barely a biscuit in that it didn't have buttery/flaky layers and was more of a roll. The eggs were actually okay. These spots you kinda expect a certain level of friendly charm in the service, and it was just not. Not bad service, just not a friendly, local vibe. With the prices matching all the more trendy/hip breakfast spots ... This place is definitely NOT worth the money
