Delicious but somewhat expensive burgers in the Gourmet Ghetto that is in North Berkeley. Barneys is a small chain of hamburger restaurants that are primarily in the Oakland Berkeley area. We didn't know, but now we do. For perspective, a Barneys burger costs $17.50, but it's a really good burger. Burgers are cooked to order with very good quality beef. Fries, onion rings, and other sides are ordered separately. Whereas the burgers were excellent, the onion rings and fried vegetables (their version of tempura) were on the oily side. Keep this in mind. Their menu is expansive, and they offer salads and other items. We stuck to the burgers. Service is friendly and efficient. Parking can be challenging, but there are metered spaces about a block away near Safeway. The restaurant is clean and well maintained. The shiny sign out front gives a slight indication of the pride they take in the establishment... or maybe we're just being too generous. In any case, on a nice day, try to snag a table on the patio and bite into a juicy, well crafted burger..all while soaking in the liberal elite vibe of North Berkeley It's a nice experience.

Many burger options and essentially can build any burger you want! Very solid! Truffle fries didn’t have a strong truffle flavor. Probably worth trying their curly fries instead

I had a Barney's burger. Nothing special, just the size. Eventually, I had to knife and fork it as it was waaay too much for the bun. My lady had the falafel pita sandwich. She liked it. I felt the falafel was too done and hard to bite into, and be aware! She actually broke a tooth later that evening eating the leftover sandwich. She had to get a crown placed last week. The curly and sweet potato fries were awesome with the dipping sauces served.

Great old-timer Berkeley favorite for lunch. It may also be good for dinner but I have only done lunches here. The name says 'burger' but it is much more. Awesome healthy salads, hearty soups, wooden rustic space with high ceiling, warm and cozy ambiance, and great service. I'm part of a Thu group lunch here and look forward to it.

this place is a regular breakfast place, nothing too special here. good options and worth a try if you are in the area since it is quite popular with locals and students.

Fun, lively atmosphere with an outdoor patio and live music. Unfortunately, the food wasn’t at the same level. The Barney’s burger was very okay. Ingredients tasted fresh but the patty was not seasoned well. The sweet potato fries I thought had too much fry and not enough potato. Not a huge fan of the chipotle aioli that was served alongside. I expect a bit more from a burger priced like this. Overall, it was okay but won’t be back.

I thought the point of curly fries was to be curly? They literally gave me the worst example known to man. Crumbs and bottom of the rack fries. This was another example of a lackluster experience here. The milkshakes are amazing... But the food is average at best for a decently pretty penny.

The service was really nice but the burger was unfortunately a huge disappointment. It's a type of burger you get in a pub at the airport: tasteless and overcooked. For a place calling themselves Gourmet Hamburgers I expect more.

Over $20 for most of their burgers WITHOUT FRIES. A kid's cheeseburger and fries was 12.50. Prices are out of control.. there's many places with higher quality burgers for way less. Greedy!

Order from there all the time. Burgers good but the onion rings I live for. Unfortunately their attitude has changed. They burn to rings to a crisp!! My last order i requested light golden, not brown and burned to a crisp as I have gotten the last few times I have ordered there. Got my order, peeked inside and saw golden rings.. ate two on the ride home loving the rings, only to discover there were only three on the top... the rest were burned to a crisp!!!! For the price they charge i expect better. Will never be back! I've been a customer for 20yrs!! 😥
