Opinions de Tauro - Fairmont Playa del Carmen
While vacationing in Playa Del Carmen, my friend and I made a reservation to eat at this steakhouse based on Google reviews. The ambience, drinks, food and service were seriously exceptional. We did not stay at this resort but from the gate to our dining experience, we were treated warmly at every turn. The food was fantastic. I had the rib eye steak with a side of wedges, salad and dessert and all were delicious. We had dinner with a view, opted to sit outside to enjoy the evening breeze, water and the soft jazz playing in the background. If you love steak, I'd recommend this restaurant during your visit to Playa Del Carmen even if you don't stay at this particular resort.
Michelin star experience. The food is delicious and the service is perfect (thanks Roberto!). An elevated but authentic Mexican steakhouse experience with exquisite local and European wines. Book well in advance because you don't want to miss it, trust me! There was also a pianist the night we went which just sealed the deal for best meal in PDC/Mayan Riviera.
Fabulous! Stayed at the hotel and ate here twice.
We arrived at the Fairmont Mayakoba late in the evening due to a delayed flight, but dining at Tauro was an amazing experience! The food was delicious, and the service was outstanding. As someone who often visits the best steakhouses in NYC, I can confidently say that the quality of meat at Tauro exceeded my expectations! Highly recommend that you have dinner there more than once while visiting Fairmont Mayakoba!
One of the best restaurants at Fairmont Mayakoba. Food was delicious! We ate here the majority of our stay. If you like key lime pie you must order their deconstructed version!
Tauro is a great steakhouse. In the realm of steakhouses it’s not the best but it’s really good (hence the 4 vs 5) but the space is gorgeous and the staff are amazing.
Amazing food and a beautiful setting. Service is outstanding.
Best restaurant at fairmont with best service, staff and food! 300% recommend. I have not been here before the renovations but apparently it’s much better now. Thank you for giving us two beautiful nights full of joy!
We loved our time at this amazing restaurant and resort, highly recommend coming to spend your family vacation!
Expensive but worth it. I had salmon tartare, Thai beef salad, short rib and black cod. Everything was superb and the service impeccable.
Fried rice and short ribs. Edamame XO. Hamachi and salmon sashimi. Brussel sprouts . Sooooo goood! I am a foodie so you can trust this (more than my grammar and spelling).
Best of all Maykoba restaurants! Fantastic food and drinks, and great service!
Huge meat portions, get where hungry, Otherwise you will not be able to eat everything. Long waiting time for food as well.
Best restaurant ever!
Excelente atención, excelente calidad y excelente cocina.
Mejor imposible!
Buen lugar
Excelente lugar
Terrific service by everyone from the maître d, to the servers. Genuine smiles. Food was great too. We especially enjoyed the Diezmillo from the wagyu cross cut. If you enjoy ribeye, this is the cut for you as it has the just enough marbling on it, but isn’t as fatty as a wagyu cut. We went back twice during our stay, and will be going to visit a third time. Absolutely fantastic!
This was the best restaurant experience we had while traveling in the area. The steakhouse was closed at the resort where we were staying, so we made a reservation here. What a great decision! Justino provided excellent service, as did the host who greeted us. The crabcake appetizer and cod were cooked to perfection. My husband said the burger rivaled anything he'd had in NYC. We'll definitely make this restaurant a must do next time we're in the region. One quick tip if you're not staying on property, be sure to confirm that the restaurant has put you on the list with the guard shack or you may have some delay getting onto the property.
The food and service were awesome. Eric was great. Get the apple tart. Enjoy.
The best service and best food ever! We have dined at almost every restaurant in Mayakoba, including Tomahawk, and Tauro is in a class of its own. The initial pre-dinner cocktail came with recommendations on how to enjoy it that were surprisingly accurate and elevated the experience right away. The service with Angel was impeccable. His knowledge of the food and wine was welcomed and impressive. The food itself lived up to the hype. Probably the best creamed spinach ever. I can’t believe it took us so long to dine here. Highly recommended.
The meal was fantastic. This was a newly opened restaurant as the hotel underwent and is still undergoing major renovations. The ambiance was spectacular, the food was amazing. The service was a three course dining experience that was memorable. We went as group of 16 and everyone loved their dishes. I have both gluten and lactose allergies and they were very knowledgeable and accommodating to my needs. They even dug out a gluten free/dairy free bread roll for me to eat with my party of 16 and not feel left out. If you are at the resort as part of the all inclusive package the menu gets pretty limited in. Definitely a must dine experience not to be missed while at the resort. Do make reservations in advance or as soon as you arrive as seating is highly sought after.
Wow! We’re from Texas so we know a good steakhouse when we eat in one and this one was Top- notch! The service was outstanding, the crab cake and shrimp appetizers were great, by the time they brought the steaks out we had a hard time finishing them! Highly recommend when staying at the Fairmont to try Tauro, you won’t be disappointed! Oh btw, excellent wine list as well.
Inventive dishes, a delightful blend of Asian and Latin. The sushi is for if you are really missing it, beyond that every other dish is great. Try the crispy tofu, miso cod (surprisingly yum), and human chicken. The veggie fried rice is a very good portion, order it for sharing. Service is great, as you likely expect of the Fairmont.
Interesting concept, well executed.
Hermoso lugar para pasar el rato
This steak house was one of our all inclusive wine and dine restaurants in Mayakoba. As usual several menu options are not included in all inclusive menu like Tomahawk or Caviar. We ordered several appetizers. Black Angus carpaccio was amazing that everyone should try it. As a main course we ordered rib eye steaks, skirt steak, and Filet Mignon. Unfortunately filet mignon was burned and well done(it supposed to be medium rare) and rib eye steaks did not look great. (Almost no grill marks). In the dessert menu everything is ok, but cast iron apple tart with ice cream is the best. The service was great and they really try to look high end restaurant.
Los platillos muy elaborados, no muy buenos de sabor y los precios muy caros. El servicio bueno y el lugar muy bien, nada espectacular
Service was very good. Food was mediocre at best. Way overpriced.
It deserves two stars because it is a beautiful place with pretty good service. However, the food was surprisingly bad. I received my dish cold. It was as you warm up food in microwave and the bowl get hot but the food is still cold. Really! We mentioned it to the waiter who I guess warmed it up again and brought it back. Other than that, both dishes and appetizer we ordered was mediocre. They were too salty and the rice wasn't cooked well. It was wayyy below our expectation. We stayed for more than a week in Cancun and Playa del Carmen and this was the worst food we had. But hey, the view was unbeatable.
12/4/22 Food was served within minutes of ordering. Odd for a steakhouse. Steak and sides were cold, steak was tough and not worth eating. Even dessert was mediocre at best. If you don’t know how to do a steakhouse, don’t pretend to.
The food is over priced. The Mac n cheese is very bland with no seasoning. All of the sides were under seasoned. The fillet mignon was disappointing. I would not go back. Spend your money at the other restaurants on the resorts.
The restaurant takes itself very seriously and tries hard to present itself as a high class steakhouse. The service is top notch to the level that it's almost annoying. The place is nicely decorated and the atmosphere is nice. However, the steak I had was far from what one expects for such price level. I'm not a big fan of a NY striploin to begin with, but the cuts selection is not big if you're looking for an 8 to 12 ounce piece. The steak I got wasn't as soft as a good striploin can be. It also arrived a little too cold and had too much salt and pepper on it. I asked for a side of fries and it was a disaster. They were tired looking, hard, and tasted like something even a fast-food joint wouldn't serve. The rest of the food was nice enough (a crab cake, hair loom tomatoes salad, and onion rings) but nothing too exciting. The highlight of our meal was the bread...
We are staying here at the hotel. This restaurant is certainly beautiful. And in the times of covid you can safely eat outside However, the service is poor even verging on hostile. They refused multiple times to bring me a paper menu despite there being a stack of paper menus, 5m from my table. They were condescending to my husband because he didn't understand what the all inclusions were but it wasn't fair because we didn't have a menu. They also had lost our reservation but made out they were doing a very very big favor to us by allowing us to sit down despite me having written proof that we had a reservation. The service was also very slow and we were waiting for a very long time which is not easy with young children. Towards the end of the meal they were a bit less hostile but I'm just not sure what happened at the beginning. In terms of the food, the Cornish hen seemed to be the best bet. My bavette steak was rather tough. The children's menu is limited to Mac and cheese or chopped steak. As we didn't have a menu we couldn't order drinks until after our entrees - when we finally got the drinks menu. But the martinis were reasonable.
Tauro was the sole dining experience from the week that didn't even come with the great service we had enjoyed elsewhere on the property. The NY strip on the presentation plate they brought out before ordering was twice as thick as what was served on my plate. I ordered rare and got medium. The meat was no better than I would get at a chain grocery store in the US which makes sense since it is advertised as being from the Midwest of the US. The mashed potatoes were slimy and inedible not to mention $15USD for a single scoop. The chimichurri was more oil than herbs and inexplicably had finely chopped tomato. It, too, was and extra $15USD. For a sauce. That means that the side and the sauce cost 2/3 what the steak cost. The chocolate cake was dense and flat. The drink I ordered was listed as having chili liquor, but had absolutely no kick whatsoever and honestly tasted watered down. And all of it was served in a space far too dimly lit and with cheap Persian "rug" wall decorations that looked like someone printed them at a Kinko's. And don't even get me started on the outrageous pricing for all this. We happened to notice that one of the bottles of wine on their wine list was the exact same varietal and vintage as one we had ordered at Bassano the night prior but was literally twice the price at Tauro. Shameles. The only positive comment I heard was that the creme brulee was lovely. It's also highly suspicious that the Google listing keeps showing as permanently closed. We were told that this restaurant was brand new. Seems fishy. Review manipulation?
Ate there during our stay at Fairmont Mayakoba 4 months and was pleasantly surprised with the food. Currently staying here again, menu has since changed. I feel like I'm eating foodcourt standard meals with a high price tag. Very disappointed.

I have been coming to Fairmont Mayakoba with my family and friends for over 8 years 3 or 4 times per year and have dined in all their restaurants. Tauro was by far our favourite. That was until our most recent visit last Friday. Our waiter was excellent however, the kitchen was extremely slow which meant the service was in turn very slow and yet we were only 1 of 3 tables on the patio. The steaks came out lukewarm at best with little or no seasoning. Very frustrating given the prices have risen dramatically over the past year. I ordered a baked potato as my side. Not on the menu but something the kitchen has always prepared for me given it’s a simple quick cook heated in the microwave. This time they sent out the steak and the side came 30 minutes later by which time my family had finished their meals and my lukewarm steak was now freezing cold. Not one person acknowledged the problem. I asked for the manager. She (Alexia) came to the table with her chef Aldo. Zero apology. He had an attitude was both rude and confrontational. He attempted to use the excuse that they “had to go find a potato on property” which took all the extra time. So I asked him why he went ahead and sent out the food when clearly it wasn’t ready. Stupid excuse. Regardless, they just didn’t seem to care. The waiter apologized and was kind enough to acknowledge how important customers are to their restaurant business and how the waiters rely on the business. It’s a shame the management and chef didn’t concur. Sadly, we won’t be back.
