Reservation is a must and it's super fun! Prep tips for the chef. Everything was delicious!
I found myself at XIN-GAO, a restaurant located in Xcaret Hotel Mexico, one night for a dinner experience that I won't soon forget. The restaurant, helmed by Chef Arzapalo, offers four unique dining experiences that showcase the best of Japanese flavors and techniques, including Teppanyaki, Robatayaki, Fusion, and Omakase. As soon as I walked into the restaurant, I was struck by the modern decor and beautiful concrete artwork on display throughout the space. After a slight hiccup with our reservation, we were eventually seated in front of the sushi bar, which was exactly where we wanted to be. Our server Viviana Garcia stood next to us practically all night, making sure everything was perfect, and we were thrilled to be seated right in front of the sushi chef, Angel Camacho, and the always-smiling Yeyezi Garcia which allows us to see her careful creations at work. We started our meal with a Tampico Roll, which was an explosion of flavors in our mouths. The wait was well worth it for this dish. From there, we enjoyed a large variety of dishes including hand rolls, sashimi, and dumplings seasoned with a delicious white sauce. The Arcoiris Roll was particularly amazing, packed with flavor and expertly prepared. Next, we were blown away by the Toshimi Tuna, which was to die for. The marbling of the fat was simply amazing and melted in our mouths. The Sashimi Salmon, while not quite as good as the tuna, was still extremely impressive and delicious. But the big surprise of the night was the dish we dubbed "Going to Heaven." This dish was a combination of Wagyu beef, spectacular tuna, and salmon rolled and placed on a bed of branches. The presentation was stunning, with flowers, slices of lemons, and salmon with marbling fit for a king. It was one of the best birthday dinners I've had in a long time. Throughout the night, the staff was incredibly attentive and considerate. Pedro and Pablo at the bar kept us surprised with drinks that were more like dreams, each more colorful and delicious than the last. And all the while, the staff made sure our food was perfect, with Angel Camacho and his team transferring tons of data to ensure the flavors were just right. I truly love coming to XIN-GAO not just for the food and beautiful buildings, but also for the wonderful people that I meet. The servers, bartenders, and managers are all impeccably trained and have the perfect attitude to take care of everything you need. And they do it all with a smile. One thing I do want to emphasize is the importance of tipping. Just because you're at an all-inclusive restaurant doesn't mean service is included. These people work for tips, and it's their main source of income. So please, tip generously if you receive excellent service. I saw a table of seven people who ordered everything on the menu and then some, but left a tip of only $5. It was heartbreaking to see how hard the staff was working for so little reward. Remember, tipping 15-20% is standard in Mexico and the US. In conclusion, I had an amazing time at XIN-GAO. The food was outstanding, the staff was attentive and friendly, and the ambiance was perfect. Even with a minor glitch at the beginning, they were able to quickly fix the issue and provide an unforgettable dining experience. My wife and I left with full bellies, happy hearts, and a ton of photos to remember the night.
One of the best dining experiences of my life. The desserts were mind blowing. I had to order two. You must experience every dessert they have to offer. Try not to look at any photos of the desserts so you can get the full surprise when ordering. The meal was good as well.Fresh, premium sashimi and caviar. Creative dishes. Strong Japanese presentation with a subtle flair of Mexico. Ambience and staff are perfect.
Tried both the fusion and the grill on separate nights during our stay. The grill is an AMAZING experience! I highly recommend trying it at some point during your stay. Our seating was for 8pm. We started off with a miso soup, and then the chef got to work on the grill. He was so talented! We had fried rice and then mixed veg with salmon, beef, chicken and shrimp. At the end, we were able to pick from three different desserts. 10/10 recommend!
Xin Gao, the Japanese restaurant at Hotel Xcaret Mexico, offers 3 different menus and dining experience under one roof - teppanyaki, a la carte and sushi bar. The reservation system is different for each menu/dining area. We have successfully reserved for the omakase at the sushi bar, which has only 5 seats, and 2 rounds of seating per night. The omakase has no menu and offers items that are not available on regular menus, like uni and aburi sushi. It’s a must-try dining experience in Hotel Xcaret, especially if you are a sushi lover. Check out my reservation tips and omakase details on Instagram @Jane_Wu.
Xin Gao is my FAVORITE restaurant at Xcaret. So much so that we went 3 nights out of our 4 nights at Xcaret. Everyone just takes care of you so well! Our favorite meals were at the sushi bar, everything was prepared so well and tasted DELICIOUS. I highly recommend everyone who likes sushi to give the sushi bar a try. There’s only 4 seats for 2 couples at the sushi bar though, so I would make reservations ahead of time. My favorite dish was definitely the toro appetizer that was apart of the omakase. My favorite appetizer was the Crispy Wonton. I would do anything to taste it again!! I had the fusion option one night and the food was good too, but personally I LOVE sushi so I would just do the sushi bar. I wasn’t sure of any of the names of the drinks I ordered as I just always asked for them to surprise me. I was surprised every time, but it was always in the good way! When I return to Xcaret, I’ll be back to Xin Gao!
Best meal that I have had at the sushi bar! Juan Carlos took care of us and the omakase experience was awesome! Tasty, fresh, quality ingredients, made to order, good portions, tasty, good variety and the service and staff attentive and good. In the Fusion section of the restaurant, you get to try a bit of everything with a nice selection from sushi, robatayaki, soup and a couple of Asian appetizers and main dishes. It was a great choice and you do need reservations to dine in. Best way to wrap up vacation! Glad we finally made it there! Thank you Alvaro for accommodating us 😊
dishes is very slow to come and there is no chance to sit hibachi table(nobody tells we need to booking two separate tables). I do not like to rolls but sashimi is very nice.
Beautiful place, friendly, attentive staff. Food wasn't the best but the atmosphere and presentation was very well worth it. Teppanyaki table was fun. Covid-19 handling is good - menus are through the QR code. Very clean. Delicious mango matcha sorbet 2024 update: not too thrilling anymore, unfortunately the food quality went way downhill. The sushi we tried are ok, not phenomenal but not bad. Everyone was raving about the ramen -- it was incredibly greasy. The filet mignon had no taste at all. The presentation is still good but the flavor is not there for everything we tried. Even the desserts were underwhelming.
Review of Xin-Gao Restaurant Hotel I recently had the pleasure of dining at Xin-Gao Restaurant Hotel, and overall, it was a delightful experience. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was vibrant and welcoming, with stunning decorations that truly enhanced our dining experience. The restaurant's aesthetic is a feast for the eyes, making it an ideal setting for any occasion. The food was simply delicious! Each dish we ordered was flavor able, and we relished every bite. Our waitress was fantastic—attentive, friendly, for most of the our visit. However, there were a couple of downsides that dampened our experience. The smoke from the "wanna be Benihana" section was overwhelming at times, detracting from the otherwise pleasant atmosphere. Additionally, despite the efforts of the staff, they forgot to bring out my son's birthday cake out which was truly disappointing. This oversight affected our celebration and left a sour note on what could have been a perfect evening. Not sure if it was host or the waitress fault but both fail after being notified of our celebration. Given these factors, I’m hesitant to return to Xin-Gao, as the issues we encountered had a significant impact on our experience. While the food and ambiance were commendable, the smoke and the birthday cake mishap ultimately overshadowed the positives.
The food was great, and we loved the atmosphere. Unfortunately, our server took the wrong order. We asked for an Ebi Roll, but he brought us Yaki Ebi instead. Instead of correcting the mistake, he stood there arguing with us rather than sending the correct order to the kitchen. By the time the argument was over, the kitchen had already closed, and my husband ended up leaving with an empty stomach.
