Opinions de Blue Point Grill Princeton
I visited Blue Point Grill in Princeton, NJ, and it definitely delivers a polished, upscale dining experience. The restaurant is very nice inside with plenty of seating, and it has that refined atmosphere that makes it great for a date night or special occasion. The service was impeccable from start to finish. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and made the entire experience feel smooth and well paced. As for the food, it was very good, fresh, and well prepared. The seafood quality is clear, and everything was cooked with care. That said, while the dishes were great, they were not the absolute best I have ever had. Also, the portion sizes are on the smaller side, especially considering the price point, and the place is definitely on the expensive end. Parking can also be a challenge, especially during peak hours, so be prepared to circle around or walk a bit. Overall, Blue Point Grill is a high quality, upscale seafood spot with fantastic service and a polished atmosphere. The food is very good, though the portions and pricing might make it more suited for when you want a refined experience rather than a big, hearty meal.
Ate here for a birthday dinner! I love seafood so this was perfect. I had the black cod with sweet potato fries. The fish was very oily but the flavor was great. The fries came with a Dijon mustard dip that went really well. I think the food is worth the price if you love fish. I will definitely want to come back again.
We had a great time for early evening during for the beast seafood in town of Princeton. Some appetizers and mains. BYOB is allowed.
I first came to Blue Point Grill many years ago, maybe almost ten years ago.. I’m not sure why I waited this long to come back. The food here is incredible. For seafood lovers, this is the place to be. There is so much variety, more than just your standard salmon or tuna. They got it all. I started with grilled calamari - I was skeptical at first, since calamari is generally fried, but I’m glad I took the waitress recommendation. It was delicious! The meat was perfectly cooked with a nice garlic sauce - perfect texture and flavor. The same for the grilled octopus as well. Even the Greek salad was amazing. For my entree, I got the crispy barramundi on risotto. It was very good, maybe a bit too crispy for my liking, but the flaky white fish inside was scrumptious. Finished off dinner with a pound cake brûlée. Which is like a pound cake, but one side is brûléed, forming a crispy torched crust. Amazing. Will definitely be back again!
I have driven by this place many times but when wife said she wanted to go one day I knew that was the hint for mother's day. I will start with that the staff is very friendly. Kept us updated on the status of our order and they have good communication with the kitchen to know what's out. We started with sweet chili shrimp and fried calamari...... so good! The shrimp was fresh never have we had it that good! A must try if you get the chance to go. Entree was short rib and garlic mashed potatoes, Costa Rican mahi mahi, crab stuffed shrimp and fish & chips. Beautiful presentation, perfect portion for each person. No over or under seasoning everything was just right. Desert we shared a passion fruit ice cream and mango sorbet. A nice change from what we had for dinner very fragrant and unique flavors.
If I could give the food 10 stars.. I WOULD! A definite recommendation for seafood lovers & them being BYOB just adds to the perfection. We had the octopus which was delicious along with the crab cakes 🤌🏻. For my entree I had the Seafood Bouillabaissee which was phenomenal (a must try)! The food is soo fresh it's an understatement. I was recommended by my friends and was amazed, will definitely be back!
Been coming here for the last 20+ years and still love it. These days, ordering the jalapeño lime shrimp, oysters, and crab dip have been compulsory. I miss the blackened catfish, which may be something that comes back, but I just haven't seen it in awhile. No matter, this place will remain in my permanent rotation.
Really good fish, they know how to do it. I recommend the swordfish to have a new experience with the flavors and textures. Bring your wine because they don’t offer drinks/alcohol.
It’s been years since I’ve been to Blue Point Grill and it’s every bit as amazing as I remember. Their small yet diverse menu of seafood options has something for everyone. The dishes are delicious, beautifully presented, and served by friendly and knowledgeable servers. Expanded outdoor seating and new rooftop seating has been added since I was last here years ago which adds even more options to the dining experience. It’s an upscale yet casual atmosphere in beautiful downtown Princeton. I’ll be back soon after such a great meal.
I've finally found a good seafood restaurant that I can give 5 stars and would love to come again! Appetizers and Entrées were all amazing. Especially texture of the whole Bronzini was moist and juicy. But one thing, it would be nicer if they served a small side dish like pickles to refresh my mouth.
This mussels are fantastic 👍 one of my fav seafood restaurant in town. Highly recommend black cod and bring your bottle of wine. They are usually open till 9 pm but don’t worry you can come at 9 pm and make an order and enjoy your dinner
One of my favorite places in Princeton. They do seafood and its accompaniment. And they do it right. Seafood is always fresh tasting. And prepared well. Many picks allow you to specify a preparation. Other than that pure no frills seafood experience. Oysters here are great. And their menu changes daily. Also it's byob! Nothing bad to say except hard to find a reservation!
The menu is excellent, many unique fish offerings that you don’t see everyday at other restaurants. I ordered the mixed grill special— one piece of Alaskan Sablefish and one piece of Arctic Char with wild rice. Both were out of this world: the sablefish was so luscious and buttery, and the char was blackened to absolute perfection. The fish were seasoned elegantly but simple enough to still let the natural flavors of the fish shine. Portion sizes were perfect. Some of the other popular entrees in my group included the Chilean Sea Bass and the Red Snapper. We also had a variety of appetizers which were excellent as well. There are also a few pasta and meat options, but they really excel with the fish. You really can’t go wrong with any of the seafood offerings. Staff were friendly and attentive. Our waitress was very knowledgeable of all the seafood offerings and helped in making some of our selections which was much appreciated. Highly recommend and I can’t wait until our next visit!
This place is amazing! They offer a wide variety of fish, and I ordered the risotto with shrimp and fried fish — it was absolutely delicious , I also recommend the shrimp dumplings ,the sardines and the octopus .
Probably one of the best, pure seafood restaurants I have ever been to. The Oysters were perfectly fresh. Had the Falkland Island Chilean Sea Bass. Perfect. Octopus. Perfect. On and on. And the service was great and blown away by the speed the kitchen rolled food out even being fully packed. Highly recommended!!
Amazing, Charlie does it again! Crazy Horse, the new Sushi roll, say no more take a look !
Best shucked oysters in NJ! The service is consistently great. The menu is mostly fish centric so it depends on the preference.
Very busy (dinner time), was able to sit by the raw bar, which provided a view of the kitchen, but maybe a bit louder than a table. Had monkfish medallions, so had Chilean sea bass. Both were really good. Service friendly and timely. Recommend.
Great experience, with fantastic food. Tried a few appetizers and all were delicious! Definitely recommend if you are from out of town!
The atmosphere of this restaurant gives you a coastal life in the Hamptons vibe. Little fancy, little chic. I loved the food, which was well seasoned, well prepared and everything was fresh. Real ingredients are definitely used here. Will be returning soon.
Amazing seafood, they had all of my fav oysters… Kumamoto, Honeymoon, Savage Blonde, French Kiss. Cioppino is delicious! Like many places in the area they are also BYOB!
My second time having a fabulous meal at Blue Point Grill! Service is detailed and top notch. Their seafood is so fresh. We tried oysters, calamari, scallops, crab cakes, tuna and more. Everything tasted wonderful!! Highly recommend this restaurant if you enjoy quality seafood. It is BYOB too… bonus.
Wide selection of fresh fish. Great BYO spot.
Great restaurant! 10/10 across the board. The staff was very friendly and polite the second i walked through the door. I sat upstairs on the rooftop a bit small but very cute! The restaurant IS byob which is great! The food was delicious and fresh. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and gave us great suggestions. Only con is parking is extremely hard given the location. So plan accordingly. Would definitely visit again
This seems to be THE place for seafood in and around Princeton. We lucked out with a parking space about 30 ft from the door. The host found our reservation and seated us within about 2 minutes, and our waiter, Fernando, came over to see us about a minute later. He walked us through the menu, described the featured items as well as a few of his favorites. The Greek salad was excellent; the iceberg wedge (thousand island with bleu cheese crumble) was good but not on the same level as the Greek salad. Scallops were superb as was the mixed grill (tonight with shark and steelhead salmon). The garlic mashed and sweet mashed potatoes were both excellent, as was the asparagus. Superb service (thanks Fernando!) and food. We'll be back to try the rest of the menu.
Awesome Seafoods restaurant. Good Vibe, Delicious Foods and very kind staffs. I had seabass (belly), it was really good. They have variety oyster selections. I oredered blue point and tucker islnd. So fresh.
Excellent service with amazing seafood. I can't wait to return. The crab cakes and the octopus were my favorite.
been here a few times for appetizers & highly recommend! we loved the grilled octopus & calamari, tuna/avocado poke and shrimp. service has always been great too. note that it’s BYOB!
Not sure how this place only gets 4.5 stars. I’ve had so many incredible meals here over the years. It’s been our go to spot for anniversary celebrations and large group reunions. Even had my bachelor party dinner here! Highlights always include the specials, black cod, and buffalo calamari. All of the fish is always fresh and perfectly cooked.
This is a well established restaurant and it’s not my first time here. This is a seafood restaurant that always impresses! They always have a great selection of fish and it’s is always expertly prepared. I really enjoyed my Cioppino! I am a bit of a Cioppino snob and this was very well executed!
Several times here and food is always amazing. Oysters are a must and any seafood entree is always fresh and flavorful. Tried the muscles with mustard cream sauce which melts in your mouth. The twin SA lobster tails never fail and were perfectly cooked.
You want a good selection of fresh fish, well prepared, reasonable prices, friendly atmosphere and BYOB? In Princeton? Look no further. Never had a bad meal here. Music on some nights and don't miss the desserts. They are also simple but quite good. I hesitate giving a good review as it gets crowded enough. Good thing they expanded. I love this place.
The Portuguese grilled octopus and Atlantic Salmon were delicious! Beautiful restaurant with warm lighting. Shout out to Virginia for the amazing service!
We had dinner for 3 at 7pm on a Wednesday night. The restaurant was very full, and our table near the kitchen was quite loud. Service was attentive until about 8:30 and at that point the staff started to want to go home as the restaurant began to clear out. We ordered an iceberg wedge, clam chowder, and several types of oysters for starters, the oysters were pricey at $3.75 each but we're the best tasting choice. The salad and the chowder were just average. For mains we had scallops, swordfish and king salmon, all prepared grilled. All were good but not standout exceptional. Because the fish only comes with a starch and vegetables are shared family style add-ons, mains come out looking brown / beige and unappetizing - there is no color on the plate. Four stars as the food is good, but not quite worth the very high prices and the presentation is lacking. Total cost with no drinks and no desert came to $75 per person...
Been here twice now and both times the food was good. I definitely think it's a bit overpriced for what it is though. Fried calamari was good, seasoned well and crispy. Octopus had a nice char and was very tender. Flavor wasn't the best though. For $40 the red snapper was cooked well, texture was nice. The seasoning was a bit underwhelming and the wild rice was pretty bland. I feel like for that much they can throw in some greens along with the coleslaw. The trout was also nicely cooked and seasoned better. The garlic mashed potatoes were very good and also came with coleslaw which tastes okay. Both times the staff have been very friendly and attentive. The only odd thing is your bread comes out cold and the butter is really cold. Good luck spreading hard butter over cold soft bread lol. The bread does taste good though.
Great menu selection with wide range of seafoods. Loved the Portugal sardine but the trout entree came with too thick breading, which overwhelmed the trout flavor and texture. Shrimp and Crawford etoufee was flavorful but wish it came with more rice/dirty rice and thicker broth. The waitress knew the menu well and the service was great. A big crowd with good vibe.
Great food, decent service. They gave the last swordfish, which I had my sights on for a few months here, away to a takeout customer. I would have been fine with it if they had told me right away instead of after ten minutes. Also the patio leaks when it rains, which is of no fault to the restaurant, however you just need to ask them 2-3 times to close the windows amidst a monsoon. I’d go back if I was craving a fish dish however for the price point there is too many variables for me to enjoy the meal.
Great seafood restaurant. Outdoor seating and rooftop are fancy and chic. We went there with friends couple of times. So far we tried crab cakes and sea bass. They are phenomenal. Bali Barramundi is exotic. Shrimp Etoufee, a dish found in both Cajun and Creole cuisine, is a feast. Oysters are fresh. If you are overwhelmed with the menu, try them all. You won’t disappoint.
Very good seafood restaurant. Great choice of fish and fresh oysters. I particularly liked clam chowder and grilled shrimp with absolutely delicious sauce! You can bring your own bottle of wine, which is very nice.
I don't entirely get the allure. I first came to Blue Point years ago and loved having a fresh seafood restaurant with simple and tasty preparation. The food is good but there are enough things that leave room for improvement. On this visit, I was seriously disappointed with the smoked tuna pate. You mean tuna salad with some sweet pickles and tortilla chips out of the bag? They shouldn't serve that dish. Service is not really engaged. They take your order but don't really monitor the tables to see if you need something. And the lobster ravioli was beautiful, but overwhelmed with cheese. The clusters of lobster knuckle on top were a highlight. You need to taste the lobster. The dessert stood out and was sinfully delicious. Who doesn't love a chocolate chip cookie dome with a pot of melted chocolate in the middle and a scoop of vanilla? My husband loved his steak and brownie dessert. And the seafood , the reason for coming, could use a bump up.
The staff is the highlight: I had dinner here on a Friday night and my experience was mostly pleasant. Parking was unfortunately rather difficult as I struggled to find street parking. My party of 4 was seated promptly upon arrival and our FANTASTIC waitress immediately opened our BYO bottles (no corking fee). Before I talk about the food, I just need to give a huge shoutout to our waitress (I really wish I hadn’t forgotten her name). She was nothing short of amazing - consistently providing recommendations, giving us feedback, checking in to make sure we had what we needed. She single handedly made our night. What kept this place from getting 5 stars was the combination of difficult parking and some of the food we had. My party had 2 dishes that included shrimp that was just outright too chewy and didn’t taste fresh. Aside from the shrimp, the rest of the food was good and we did walk away from the night satisfied and happy with our experience.
Very nice restaurant, fresh ingredients and seafoods, attentive waiters and clean outdoor tables. Will definitely go back again. The only star taken off was the choices of sauce on entrees, not much to choose. Wish they have more choices of sauce in the future!
One of the best seafood places we've ever been to. Everything from the food to the service to the ambiance was just superb. BYOB
Great tasting food. Seafood is fresh and they get it from the fish market next door. I had the chilean sea bass and it was amazing. For dessert, I had the tiramisu with vanilla ice cream. Would definitely come back. One thing to note, they do not serve liquor but it is a BYOB place. For the price you pay, I did think the place was expensive. If you look at the food when it's brought out, it looks underwhelming. The dessert was pretty at least.
Good seafood restaurant with large menu of fish choices, mostly fresh. There's covered outdoor seating on the sidewalk along Princeton's main drag, but a couple of blocks away from the busiest areas, that's heated in the colder months. We prefer sitting there to inside, which can be noisy.
Charming spot on Main Street with a warm, casual vibe. The fish was incredibly fresh, cooked just right to highlight its natural flavor rather than overpower it. I loved that it’s BYOB—it gives the whole experience a relaxed, personal touch. The mussels in mustard cream sauce were the star of the night: tender and plump, with a sauce that struck the perfect balance of briny seafood sweetness, sharp mustard, and silky cream. A dish that makes you want to grab bread just to savor every drop. I’ll definitely be back to see what else the kitchen does well.
Our entrees were amazing! Highly recommend the Arctic Char. However, we ordered the clams casino appetizer and it was not quite what would be expected by most people, there are no bread crumbs or crunch at all, and it was mostly a peppers and onions topping. They were just okay. We ordered the chocolate chip bread pudding for dessert, and it was very obviously microwaved. For $9.00 for a small slice of it, it was disappointing that it was cold and then only hot in some areas. We were celebrating our 5-year anniversary, and I put that in the notes of the reservation. Nothing was done to acknowledge it, which is fine, but it truly would have been nice. I would understand that they might not if it was very busy but it wasn’t, it was a moderate Wednesday night.
We’ve been going to Blue Point Grill for many years but our last visit a few months was very disappointing. We ate outside on the roof patio and it was lovely. Quieter than inside. However, some of fish portions were much smaller than on all our previous visits. My husband and our friend were still hungry so they ordered another entree, the mixed grill, to split between them, which also had very small pieces of fish. We’d raved about BPG to our friends, who were there for the first time, and we were all disappointed.
Been here many times. Probably won’t go back. You would expect for $40 or $50 per seafood entree, the seafood entree would be great. Two out of three of our meals were over cooked. The halibut was as dry as the Sahara, not a drop of moistness in the fish. I ordered the special, Shrimp and Scallops with peas over risotto. There were three small shrimp, three small scallops, and five peas, but lots and lots of risotto which was warm on the edges and cold in the middle. I think it had been sitting under heat lamps for a long time while our third dish was being prepared because that one came out hot and perfect. My shrimp was inedible, just too chewy and rubbery. And the service? When I tried to slow our waitress down as she walked by, to ask where our entrees were because we were waiting a long time, she barked at me without breaking stride, “they’re on thier way.” She never slowed down or even looked at the table. So the final bill with tip, and with no alcohol, was $173.00 for a mediocre seafood dinner from allegedly Princeton’s premier seafood restaurant. No thanks, won’t be heading back at those prices, that level of service, and for chewy dry over cooked seafood.
Service was great but it seems like they microwave their food. Ordered mussels for an app and some were cold and others were hot. The sauce was cold in some spots and scorching hot in others. Microwaving food and charging so much for it is a shame. Overall the food was okay.
