Good quesadilas and eggs. Edit: We returned here again and the food is so good, the portions are large and the prices are decent. Now that I've eaten at a few places around here, this place is one of the better little restaurants I've had. So I'm adding another star. I don't have a complaint! If they had ac, it would be perfect. Thankfully, they pointed a fan at us and the breeze kept us comfortable in the humid September heat. The nachos are enormous, so be ready.
Lots of great little restaurants in Peurto Morelos but only one can be the best.
Great guac, loved the ambiance of the neighborhood and street performers. The guac was incredible and their quesdillas came with guac and sour cream which really set the meal off. Awesome service and really fresh tasting food.

I arrived on Jan 27 and went to this place to get a glass of wine and listen to the live band. 5 days later I returned and the bartender remembered my drink order from before. I was shocked and also pleased! Also, my glass of wine was less than their neighbor 3 doors down. I will totally come back!
Amazing chimichanga’s and tacos. Loved their mango tequila and we got a very kind, and funny waiter. Definitely recommend seeing that every other place was way more expensive than here.👍😁
Excellent location, friendly helpful staff, good atmosphere. Went there because we'd heard so many raves about the beer batter fish and chips. Wedge cut fries were excellent!, fish meh.. A little pricey but definitely recommended.
Best tacos we had during a whole week in PM. Tacos al pastor pictures. It was around $9 if I remember right. Good prices. The drinks were around $8 for a margarita but it was big, fair pours, and well made with triple sec, orange liquor, etc. We really liked this place a lot. It's CASH ONLY. It has a really fun night life with live music and lots of people show up for this in the street. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. American breakfast for like $6.

We have been coming here since the early 2000's. Good food, good drinks, great music. Lots of fun! Not expensive at all, good value for what you pay!

This was one of the "ex-pat" places that was recommended to us by some people we chatted with on the beach. I had the chicken enchiladas which were really good and a ton of food. My husband had fish tacos which he thought were good but not great. Good music and huge margaritas. We went back for breakfast and had pancakes.
Cantina Habanero is a small restaurant that has reasonably priced dishes compared to many other restaurants in Puerto Morelos. We went for breakfast there several times during our 14-day vacation in Puerto Morelos. They serve an "American" breakfast of 2 eggs, toast, potatoes, bacon, and sausage plus coffee and juice for $129 pesos. That was my go-to order. They are a little short staffed most days, so it's best to be early. I would recommend this restaurant for the patient, budget conscious traveler.
Algo realmente picoso!!
Cantina Habanero is a cozy, laid-back spot in Puerto Morelos with a fun, casual vibe. There’s seating both inside and out on the street, and the decor is eclectic and welcoming — license plates on the walls, TVs playing sports, drink menus everywhere — very comfortable and unpretentious. My wife and I shared a chicken burrito and an order of nachos topped with flank steak. Portions were generous, everything was well cooked, and the food came out faster than expected, especially since our server had warned us there might be a longer wait. We didn’t order drinks, but the service really stood out. The staff were friendly, bilingual, and handled a kitchen mistake with class — when they realized my father-in-law’s order had been missed, they brought him a free beer along with chips and salsa, which was a really nice touch. Prices felt very reasonable, roughly in the 150–400 MXN range per person (with exceptions of course!) making it a solid value for the portions and service. Overall, a great casual option. I’d recommend Cantina Habanero to couples, small groups (around 5–6 people), and anyone looking for a relaxed place with a slightly American feel mixed with a few Mexican classics. They even had some love music setting up while we ate!
Food geared towards Americans. Spent 50 usd for 2 people. We had 2 entrees 1 appetizer and 4 drinks. One was a bottle of water. Staff was nice, wait time about 20 minutes.
Nice place and staff. The enchiladas and chimichangas were delicious. The only reason why I take away a star is because we actually came back here for a second time, and the cook mixed up our order. They put the beef in enchiladas, and chicken in chimichanga, when it should've been the opposite. We were too hungry to return it :D Otherwise, it was great, I recommend.
Appears to be a hang out for the local expats in the area. The meal and drinks we had were average, nothing to write about it. The wait staff were engaged with the locals sitting at the bar rather …

We were looking for a simple no frills spot for dinner. Atmosphere, service, and drinks were great! Food not so much. We found other options that were better and lower in price.

We have visited Cantina Habanero every time we visit Puerto Morelos (last 5 years). Food is good, pina coladas aren't as good as they used to be. Vibe is nice with nightly music.
Two stars only because the server was really friendly and she took great care of us. Otherwise, 1 star. We ate at the place on recommendation and if you are American/Canadian and don’t like “real” Mexican food, you will probably enjoy it. If you order a hamburger, maybe it will be good. But they are cooking Mexican food for non-Mexican customers. And it is extremely expensive for what you get. The guacamole was weirdly flavored with a TON of black pepper, but no lime or other flavor. Just avocado and black pepper. Tacos al pastor were the most bland I’ve ever had. I think the pineapple maybe even came from a can. It was just flavorless. My husband’s burrito was similar - just no flavor whatsoever. So, if you like Mexican food that tastes like it was made in Canada, maybe you will like this place. If you like authentic Mexican food at all, you will be very disappointed. And a side note, the atmosphere is geared towards making you feel like you in a road side diner in the US complete with country music, so that’s probably a plus for some people but it was a huge miss for us since we come to Mexico to experience… Mexico.
Beer drinkers love this place and yes the customers were friendly Canadians...however if your not the service you have to tell them you want more vodka and whiskey...wait staff spends to much time socializing and then forgets your drinks...ordered fish and chips were undercooked ...battered fish was badly overcooked but they served it anyway...chimichanga was extremely bad...enchiladas were really good...stop here for beer and music only!
Pro: The 2 stars are because the 2 staff were polite and responsive. And the beer was cold. There were tables on the sidewalk. Con: I had hoped the food here would be good, as I very much enjoy eating at a local, street side cafe. It was about 1pm and I ordered the chicken tacos - hard to mess that up, right? Well, they succeeded! The 3 tacos that arrived were a pile of lettuce out of a bag, with cheese out of a bag on top. When I dug down to find the chicken, it was small pieces of clearly NOT FRESH chicken. Nothing there was recently on a grill. They looked like leftover pieces that had been put in the fryer to warm up [and maybe kill any bugs growing]. Sorry, I cannot recommend this place. Except for only a beer. I will not go back to try something else, because that would be a waste of pesos.
Hands down the most arrogant worse service in all of Quintana Roo. Breakfast is cheap, but only if you are willing to waste 60-90 minutes and you are completely clueless on what is going on, if, why, or when you get a coffee, and God forbid you need a warmup. You get the feeling you being there, spending your money and tipping them, is a complete nuisance. The dinners are dry and a bit tasteless and completely overpriced for what you get......arrogant; and the reviews reflect it. I would recommend two doors down at La Taberna; much better food, service and music. Always staffed correctly with people that apricate your business and ran by intelligent business owners that know how to run a restaurant....or if you are not hungry, Jakes on back street is cool.
While the server was nice and polite, literally the worst fish taco I have ever had in my life. I have had the privilege of living and traveling in over 14 Latin and South American countries, so I don’t say this lightly. She claims they buy fresh fish daily, but they looked like fish sticks from a school cafeteria and tasted even worse. The enchilada red sauce tasted like it was tomato sauce from a can with zero “Sazon” (flavor). If you want an American style taco SMOTHERED in lettuce, cheese and sour cream surrounded by a bunch of Americans this is your place. Drinks were underwhelming but the guacamole was decent. In all fairness, after we complained (I only ate one-ish of three tacos) they didn’t charge us for my plate.
I just had breakfast and it was honestly the worst experience and the worst food I’ve had in a very long time. We waited for almost an hour for our food to arrive. The food was not even edible. We complained to the server which went nowhere. We sent back our food back and then received a bill for our drinks, really!!! Nobody came over to apologize for their service or their terrible meal that they served nor did they offer us any other menu options. The only good thing about this place is it did have a cool vibe. Avoid this place…
It literally took an hour for my breakfast to make it to the table. Chilaquiles arrived soggy and cold, beans all dried out and hard. The American breakfast was HORRIBLE! Eggs dry, sausage link shriveled up, bread not even toasts and when I ask for help I was told that is how the are. The nerve to still charge me for the juice!!!
