I have come here for years just for the Tortilla soup. It is the best in all of Vallarta.
The tortilla soup really is as good as all the reviews. I had the combo plate which included soup, 1/2 rack ribs and fries. Everything was very good and so filling. Service is a bit slow but be patient and look forward to the meal.

Me encantó mucho
Went for the all you can eat ribs but we chose the combo that included chicken tortilla soup, ribs and fries for 300. It was so good. The waitresses were excellent and the musician was excellent. Had horrible service years ago but tonight I would highly recommend you good and give it a try again.
This authentic Mexican restaurant has some of the best food I've had in PV served by the most wonderful staff. A true family run operation that uses nothing pre-made and all family recipes. Everything we had - Grilled Chicken, Ribs, coconut shrimp and the Tortilla Soup - were 10/10. Even the French fries were better than anywhere else! (Garlic oil perhaps...?) We're definitely going back for all you can eat ribs (Thursday and Saturday) You HAVE to eat here. It's fantastic.
OMG those ribs! The tortilla soup is also very tasty and super filling))) We actually ordered 3 dishes, but were only able to muster two and took the third one to-go as the portions are enormous. Our waiter was very friendly and spoke English which was nice since our Spanish is rather lacking. The chef actually came to inquire whether we liked the food))
A little hard to find, but when you find it WOW!!! Ribs were awesome, tortilla soup was probably the best we have ever seen and tasted. And I have never gotten a salad quite like the one we got the tomatoes were peeled, there was mango, oranges, craisens, cucumbers, and Lettuce, so good! A genuine friendly experience, feels like you are eating at a relatives backyard (that's a good thing) also if your uber/taxi gets lost its across the street from Servicio Pan Americano de Protección at the corner
Best steak and eggs I have ever had. Everyone raves about tortilla soup and ribs, but I have been twice before noon, which is breakfast. Excellent coffee with refill, the steak is very tender and garlicky, the over-easy eggs are perfectly done, and the grated hash browns are crispy and so good. Service is friendly and good. Toddler toys make it good for small kids. WARNING: there is no ocean view, but the place is full of orchids and other gorgeous plants. I never want to leave. I would eat there just for the orchids even if the food wasn't so good (but it is).

Authentic, amazing food, and apparently family run...how can you go wrong? Coconut and garlic shrimp were perfect, along with the best burger in Mexico! Put this place on your list!
It was really good. Fish and the ribs, but nothing had any real heat to it. The food had real good flavor. Had good tortilla soup and all you can eat ribs.

The tortilla soup is a must try!!! Staff friendly and attentive. Complimentary salsa and chips.
We had the Tortilla soup (great) and ribs special with fries. One plate had 7 fries and the other one had 16. Food was good. We were there at about 6;30 pm & busy till about 7:30 pm. Our taller blond waitress was slow to take & serve. She was gone somewhere at times ?? We had her the year before, same thing. She must be part owner or related, certainly didn't work as hard as the rest. On leaving we tried to get & pay our bill but we were told we had to wait for our waiter to get it. Well she was gone somewhere again for 5 minutes. (Go figure?)
Buena comida
Table of Three they took our drink orders right away; Chef Salad while I did order received excellent compliments was packed with all sorts of goodies. The tortilla soup and rib plate was delicious. only thing Id add is coleslaw. The waiter was very friendly and attentive. The chef came out and asked how we liked; overall a good experience was kinda quite for lunch but not many places open for lunch 11:30
Exelente comida y buen ambiente super relajado
We had heard the tortilla soup was very good, it did not disappoint. Recommend trying it at Ernesto's!
My husband ordered the tortilla soup and half ribs. Tortilla soup was nice and hot with lots of cheese. Very filling Ribs ( 6) very tender and lots of sauce and fries I had 4 fried fish tacos with cream sauce Service slow but we had complimentary tacos and salsa to start Friendly staff
Really good and tasty chicken tortilla soup. Broth is a bit thicker in texture but overall, it was good. Served with toasted mini buttered rolls and had thee best sweetest, cold & refreshing hibiscus tea. I came in as a walk in but I would highly suggest to reserve because the place tends to fill up pretty quick. It’s a local spot with lots of high volume tourist from what I observed. Also, there was a live band at 6pm on a Monday night!! It added a nice vibe to the outdoor setting for the patio restaurant. Would definitely like to try their other menu items.

Funky patio...nice Generous portions, Fresh made to order Great tortilla soup, sometimes out of different things. No beef when we went there, only pork or fish Not fancy but pretty good.

The ribs are not fall off the bone. But passable. If you order more expected the crapof the ribs. Very disappointed!
Lindo lugar agradable pero servicio regular
Caro
Great ribs. Unfortunately they were limited on ribs due to a shortagr at this time so we couldn't get all you can eat but one set if ribs was more than enough. Definately suggest going here for great ribs
For years and years while visiting PVR, Earnesto's "All-you-can-eat" Ribs on Thursday (and now, Saturday) nights has been a tradition. The food, especially the tortilla soup, has been some of the best in the region. However, this visit left a LOT to be desired. The restaurant, with about 40 tables and 120 seats is severely understaffed with two (yes, two) servers and one bartender handling everything front of the house. Every aspect of our meal was hurry-up-and-wait.... drinks (15 min), chips and salsa (+15 min), appetizers (+45 min, as other tables seated after us received theirs), entrees, (+30 min.) No checkbacks. No refills. No bussing the table of dirty dishes, etc. We had to retrieve our own condiments, take away boxes and beg for the check. Other tables reported the same frustration. This could all be fixed with a few additional servers and perhaps a busser to keep tables happy while the kitchen catches up. Sadly, despite the good food, I'm crossing Ernesto's off my PVR list for now.
I had ribs and my wife had a chicken burrito. The ribs came on a huge plate and had a smoky-sweet sauce, not spicy. The burrito was large and tasty. The beer was cold and the service was average. The prices were kind of high and they only take cash so I had my wife wait while I ran to our condo to get cash, very inconvenient!
This restaurant is known for ribs. We were here last year and the food was good, this time the quality has disimproved, the ribs were small and dry, the french fries were thin and tasteless. To complete the mess we ordered a cheese cake, it came at room temperature. Tourist traps and the race to the bottom continues, shame on you. Won't be back!
Not sure about the hype. We went here for ribs based on you tube video I saw. The ribs were cooked OK, but the sauce was just sweet and discussing. Even tho only 2 tables had guest, service was extremely slow. The hoods over the grill seem to not work and the entire place smelled like thick smoke from the burning sweet BBQ sauce. There are amazing restaurants in PV. This one is not one of them.
No me gusta éste lugar
No volveria nuevamente. Provamos la sopa de tortilla, esta bien. Nada espectacular.
The food was bad and the service was worse. I was told by people that I had to go to Ernesto's for the all you can eat ribs, so I stopped in today at about 5pm. I'm writing this review only three and a half hours after eating at Ernesto's because my stomach has been churning, bubbling, and twisting without settling down after the ribs and vegetables. I stood at the unmanned host desk and noticed a pile of menus on a table, so I picked one up to see what was available. An older woman wearing glasses came over and put down a menu on the pile of menus where I'd taken on. She didn't greet me or welcome me. She just told me that I already have the menu so I can sit wherever I care to. She immediately walked away, I tried to engage her asking, if there were any specials, she said they have what's in the menu, I asked again if there were any specials today - specials del dia - and she said they have all you can eat ribs. She seemed completely uninterested in me being in the restaurant and at the same time was not occupied with any other customers. I immediately felt unwelcome, but I thought, maybe this is just the host and they're having a bad day and someone else will wait on my table. I chose a table and said I would like the ribs. She asked me what I wanted to drink. After asking what waters there were available, she said they have Agua de Jamaica. So I said I'd take that, 1L, please and she had walked 3 meters away before I'd finished speaking. She spoke from across the room, while still walking away, that they don't have 1L , just big and small. So I loudly said grande as she was already into the kitchen by then. The Jamaica water came in a Carafe, maybe like a half liter or a little more. 50 pesos for about half a liter. It was delicious although some might find it sweet. The tomatoes in the pico de gallo salsa tasted bitter, not fresh. Since no one had stopped by the table, I got up to ask where I could wash my hands and the woman just pointed like I was bothering her. Every interact with this woman made me feel less comfortable to be there... After 15 minutes or so, the ribs arrived. Ribs could be ordered with french fries or vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, mashed potatoes, and some green squash veggie which I think was either gourde squash or chayote). The vegetables were prepared in margarine, not butter. My first impression of the ribs was that there was a lot of them and they smelled tart and vinegary like a browning sauce. Definitely not sweet or smokey BBQ Ribs, not that I was expecting bbq ribs. The rib sauce seems to be nearly pure "salsa inglesa" which is the Mexican equivalent of Worcestershire sauce. It even has a pungent aroma of vinegar, so I'm not sure if there was vinegar as well. So I finished the ribs, the meat fell off the bone with some work, the meat itself was a bit chewy, I wonder if Saturday night ribs are the leftovers from Thursday night ribs. In any case, there are much better places to eat ribs in Vallarta. After finishing my first plate of ribs and vegetables, I had no desire to ask for a second plate during the all you can eat special. The flavor of the salsa on the ribs killed my desire to have any more. I asked for my check, which came to 400 pesos for the water + ribs special. I paid with 500 pesos and the staff (not the woman) asked me if I wanted my change. I said, yes, of course. Overall, the service had been poor, no one asked if I wanted a refill of water during my entire 30-40 minutes in the restaurant after my initial order of ribs and water. The woman did ask if I wanted dessert at the end of the meal. The positive thing I will say about Ernesto's All you can eat Ribs is that the portion was large. The quality of the service and the food was definitely dwarfed by the portions. I will never be back to this restaurant. This place is not a hidden gem or secret top restaurant for me. I felt unwelcome and the food was unappetizing.

Honestly, I would not go back. It pains me to leave a bad review... this place was highly recommended to me so I did have some expectations of quality, but that bias does not affect this feedback. We arrived, grabbed some menus we saw on a pedestal, waited for a bit then walked in to ask if they were in service. we got a dismissive yes, and sat ourselves at a table. The complimentary chips and salsa were brought out, but the chips were too hard to chew easily. My son ordered a Naranjada that he didn't like (that's a hard drink to mess up) and I ordered a beer that I had to ask for twice and a guacamole that never arrived. My son ordered the Orange Chicken which he was unable to finish because the texture of the chicken was like dense gelatin. I confirmed this with a bite myself... the flavor was decent. I ordered the Shrimp Burrita which came with fries. At first glance the fries were covered with curly fibers. I assume they used a rag of some kind to degrease them after removing them from the fryer, but every fry was "hairy" and unappetizing. The burrito was tasty but very juicy with fillings that caused the tortilla to fall apart and the dipping sauce was a bit fermented. Service overall was unpleasant, she seemed annoyed or burned out perhaps. someone else delivered the bill when we asked for it then did not even offer change. I wasn't going to leave a tip, but didn't feel like arguing for my change. just wanted to leave at that point... hope we don't get sick don't recommend
