Highlights: BBQ pork ribs, chicharon de pulpo, Truffle potatoes(🔥+) Keep in mind this place is fancy and the prices reflect that but the food + drinks match up to quality. If you’re looking for an extra spicy drink get the El Diablo with extra jalapeño in it. Highly recommend the desert in the last photo as well.

After dining here 10+ times over the last year, this is one of my favorite restaurants of all time. Truly a rare combination of the best of every element of a dining experience. World-class food (every single thing on the menu is incredible), the atmosphere and vibe is amazing for any occasion (romantic date, late lunch with friends, accommodating of large groups, and great choice for indoor and outdoor dining) the cocktails are creative and really well executed, and the service is unparalleled. Our favorite dishes are the Tuna Tostada (a MUST), Caesar Salad, any of the main dishes with the squid-ink black rice (specifically the shrimp, octopus or the soft shell crab), ribeye, and the banana chocolate bread for desert with cappuccino.

A must visit! Staff speak good enough English to communicate. Diego was our server and he was very friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. All the staff we encountered on our visit were friendly too. Food and drink were really nice and my partner and I had a pleasant dining experience. Drinks I would recommend trying are the Lola & to end the meal the Espresso Cajeta Martini which was amazing.

We were on vacation from NYC and I reserved for my birthday on Monday November 3rd and this place was aesthetically pleasing. The food was pretty good and our waitor Danny was amazing, patient and sang me happy birthday in Spanish and English!!! Thank you Danny!!

Make sure you make a reservation on Open table! But the service was great! Drinks fresh food made to order and hot. Really positive experience.

The food was amazing. The staff was very friendly and welcoming very warming. They accommodated you as much as possible. They have a lot of different menu options and the prices are pretty decent ❤️

Nice place to go for birthdays and everything. In an odd place location wise but it was unique. Food was okay, dessert was awesome and the drinks.

The who restaurant was beautiful. The menu had several and plenty of options. The star of the show were the drinks! They were INCREDIBLE! I am picky and they were both delicious, natural, and aesthetically pleasing. If I were to return to CR I would come back just to try the rest of the drinks :) The food was delicious too, smaller portions, but it allowed us to try multiple things Recommend!

Our experience was phenomenal. I read the other reviews about service and was hesitant, we may have been lucky as we arrived 30 minutes prior to the kitchen closing. Food, drinks, service, and atmosphere were incredible. Highly recommend.

Really modern Mexican cuisine in a beautiful setting. The beef carpaccio was definitely an awesome appetizer. Any of the steak dishes came out incredible with the best likely being the Picanha. The tuna and shrimp risotto was an interesting and delicious combination that I will be thinking about for awhile. The passion fruit margarita was incredibly sweet and delicious and came with the finest salt on the rim that really made the drink stand out.

The place is beautiful, hidden by trees and the inside and terrace are spot-on. My husband order a margarita cocktail mango based) and said that was his best one in San Jose! Then the food was really good, we ordered the duck magret which was sublime and and different tacos. The only complain would be the octopus taco was a little chewy. But we will be back!

Amazing experience! Location made it a little challenging to get there around dinner due to traffic but happy we got to experience this. Food was amazing as well as drinks/service we even got a glass of champagne to celebrate our anniversary!

A friend recommended this place for dinner when we stopped in San Jose for a night before flying home the next day. It did not disappoint and was a fantastic evening. We were able to get a table without a reservation, but I recommend making one if you plan on going. The service was amazing from the host to the server. Our food was delicious, full of flavor and cooked to perfection. They had a lot of unique takes on dishes and really combined natural flavors well. The ambiance and decor were really cool too. It's on the outskirts but is definitely worth a trip if you're in the area.

Above and beyond my expectations. Some of the best food and definitely the best service I've ever experienced in Costa Rica! 9 of us shared 9 different dishes and not one disappointed. This has my 10/10 vote!

The place is beautiful and service was wonderful. The waiter brought out fresh fish and meat before selecting the menu. Little pricey but upscale restaurant so it’s expected.

Rodrigo Montesinos is easily among the country’s top-10 chefs. This restaurant respects Mexicos true culinary tradition, but also takes some bold, unique, and delicious departures from authentic recipes. They have one of CR’s best tequila & mezcal collections, and a very well curated cocktail menu. Also worth noting is the space; it is a great design, set within and around a very old and beautiful home. It is among the coolest restaurants you’ll find, in a city that actually one of the best food scenes we’ve experienced, around the world.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ My wife and I stopped in for a late dinner at Jaguar Negro, and it exceeded our expectations in every way. The food was outstanding, the drinks were excellent, and the service was very attentive without being overbearing. Our food arrived quickly, which was especially appreciated at that hour. The prices were very fair for the quality we received—this meal would have easily cost twice as much in the States. If you’re in San José, this place is absolutely worth trying.

Beautiful restaurant..... set on a hill with lots of beautiful greenery. The wait staff were super nice and accommodating. We were seated quickly without a required reservation. The food was delicious for the most part. Grilled octopus left much to be desired.

Food was good, though pricey beyond reason—even for the area. Ambiance was too gorgeous for words. Wine recommended for us was perfect

Finally! Good Mexican food in CR. Solid vegetarian options but unfortunately no main dish. Get the whole cauliflower. Not cheap but also not insanely expensive. I wish I could give this place five stars but the TVs in the place that run the most inane videos on loop of “enlightened” women running through forests, fondling jaguars, playing with indigenous kids, is utterly ridiculous and brings this place several notches below “fine dining”. If you can get a table away from all that, this place is incredible.

It was a surprise this restaurant is less than 5 ⭐️. I had a so good La Chamoy cocktail in a big Mexican. As entrance we have coliflower and chips that were great with an not to spice sauce. The main dish was a tacos with two so good crispy duck tacos but a little small for the price and thus why I don’t assume is 5 stars. The desert was a cheese cake that’s fine. Nice atmosphere, with good music, fancy decorations style and next to carrizal revel with access to a really manicure garden. Happy to return soon!

This place is amazing, the service, music and environment. Honestly I was expecting more for the cocktails ‘cause the most part of them taste like a different ways to try a margarita which isn’t bad, just not a big fan. Food was good, probably the most close experience to mexican food.

Came here one night while on vacation and I have to say the food was amazing! I ordered the appetizer Enchiladas Suizas, Carnitas de Picana, and my friend ordered the Salmon Nogada. Everything tasted amazing, however, I wish the Carnitas plate came with a regular side like rice or beans instead of spicy potatoes. The chocolate cake that my friend got for his birthday was so delicious. I would definitely want to visit this restaurant again.

Beautiful restaurant, and the service was fantastic. The menu is slightly limited, and there is not many options to sub or take things out of dishes, but the food was delicious.

It's a very elegant place and I like to come here for the atmosphere and the place. The food is average but overall I always enjoy coming here especially with a group of friends

Place is amazing, perfect for a date night or even some fancy cocktails with friends. Instead of picking 2 main plates we orderded small different dishes to share. Which in my opinion was the best cause we tried different things, we didnt spend much more and everything was big enough for 2. I strongly recommend the guacamole with rib eye and chicharrones...and the fries with parmesan and trufle oil was also really nice. Aprox 30usd per person with cocktail

Very fancy and expensive. The service was slow and a very long wait for food and drinks. Upscale Mexican restaurant, not a typical Costarican restaurant. Nice atmosphere and the food was good. Drinks could be better.

Really like the look of the place, but the food was not the best unfortunately. To start we had chicharon de pulpo which was overcooked in my opinion. For main dish i had grielled Prawns with black rice, look really nice but was nothing extra, when i eat a 30$ dish i expect something what at least i would recommend to my friends to try if they are in town. The service was nice, overall the atmosphere was really nice just was not satisfied with the food. I would return to find out if it was a just bad luck or the food what thry serve is just not my taste.

Food was great, manager was rude and abrasive and refused to sit us in a table inside after it started raining (we were in the middle of the meal). Bar staff rocked! Cheers for picking up slack for your awful Manager.

A friend invited me to dinner at Jaguar Negro last night. I understand upscale and elegant dining and have enjoyed meals in some of the finest restaurants in the world from Tokyo to European cities to South America … but this place does not qualify. $196 for two people for a bottle of wine, an appetizer and an entree each, all just average food (although the presentation was good). The waiters are mere amateurs compared to the professionals in other upscale restaurants. I simply do not understand the reputation this place apparently has. This is not it.

Absolutely gorgeous restaurant. Food is just okay. Incredibly overpriced. Great service. Super chill vibes. Ceviche - 3/5 Mariscos Fideo - 3/5 Torta de Queso - 5/5 The ceviche did not taste fresh. It was supposed to be spicy but there was very little spice. The Mariscos fideo was waaayyy overpriced for what it was. The noodles themselves were burned to the plate and I had to scrape the plate to get any noodles. Seafood portion was small. The only thing that was good was the cheesecake. Vibes are great. Definitely recommend get a few drinks with friends and enjoy the atmosphere. But the food is not worth it.

Great atmosphere great drinks and apps. Service and food was ruff. Hostess was a little rude. Dis not say hello. Took her time to seat us even though place was pretty empty. 20 min to get drink. Fish was old and very fishy. Salad was bitter and bad.. but i will try again. Good atmosphere and location.

I was vacationing in the San Jose. I went on tik tok to find a good dinner restaurant and came across this one. The food was not that great. I ordered shrimp tacos (2) orders totaling 4 tacos as well as 2 watermelon margs. My bill with the added gratuity was over 85USD. The bill wasn’t my major concern. What made me dissatisfied was the amount of time I had to wait for 4 shrimp tacos. I waited 1 hour and 30 mins upon entry for 4 tacos! Not to mention, the restaurant wasn’t even packed and there was no wait lines upon entry. On the bright side, the restaurant was very beautiful and aesthetically pleasing (for photos)! LOL!

Went with a group of friends and overall everyone had a great experience. I did not eat but I had two cocktails which cost me approximately 50 dollars each. I ordered a margarita and asked for the house tequila. Turns out I got top shelf tequila and the waiter took it upon himself to make them double shots, hence why I paid 100 for two drinks. Long story short I spoke to the manager and I was refunded half of my money. These things should not happen.

Attention and service is pretty good BUT food was so plain, no tasty at all, it wasn’t bad but the restaurant is pricy so you are expecting to have a great meal, on that note, I consider all menu overpriced compared to the food quality you are getting. I would look for another option if you’re considering this place.

The place is nice, the margaritas had a good flavor. The service was very bad, it took more than 40 minutes for 2 tacos to arrive, I was going to ask the waiter for a dessert and he told me that he had to remove all the dishes before taking the order so that he would leave and forget. If you ask another waiter for help, he directs you to the same one who does not serve you. Even so, I ordered dessert and since it took a long time, I asked that they cancel it, so they got angry. The food does not have that native Mexican flavor and it is really expensive. The couple at the table next to us had to get up to order at the till because no one was serving them

I would not recommend going if you don’t speak any Spanish and not from Costa Rica. Me and my son came and spent 140 on food. We needed WiFi to call uber back to hotel and the lady at the front for check ins completed disregarded us and would not provide us a WiFi nor help us. We had to walk at 9pm at night around to other businesses to find WiFi to get from this area. Would not recommend, they only care about your money!
