We attended the monthly date night event. I cannot put into words how delicious the menu was. We had five courses brought to us. Our waitress did a beautiful introduction to each of the plates put on the table. She was friendly and knowledgeable and we just loved her! The manager at this restaurant is friendly and engaging, and really aims to give you the best lunch or dinner experience. Every single plate that came out was so delicious. All we could do was look at our friends and say my goodness this is good. One of the best meals I’ve had in Rapid City and I’ve lived here for 25 years.
Went here for lunch on our last day in Rapid City, they were open for lunch on Sunday from 11am-2pm. When we got there was plenty of parking, but im sure dinner may get busier than lunch. When we got in the host let us pick between main dining and the bar area, we chose to sit in the bar area since I wanted to watch Football and felt it was okay for the kids to be alittle louder in case someone was trying to enjoy the quiet. Service was friendly, they have e a decent kids menu and the Shrimp Po Boy and chicken Rice bowl were amazing definitely recommend!
Excellent food with great choices and flavors. We ordered the ribeye and lamb rack—both were delicious and memorable. The environment was also very nice. Highly recommended!
This is one of the most amazing steakhouses I've ever been to. The food was amazing, a very fancy interior, and very kind and professional servers. You know its a good steakhouse when once you get your steak, they ask you to cut open your steak to make sure it is cooked the way you want. Mine was cooked PERFECTLY. An absolute must do if you are visiting Rapid City.
I’m not surprised at the poor reviews, someone always has something to complain about if it’s not specifically accommodating to them entirely. Review: Affordable fine dining brought to Rapid City. The atmosphere is beautiful and relaxing. The hosts during our dining experience greeted us at the door and our server gave us recommendations that did not disappoint. Restaurants should strive to have a short menu like Sear has. Quality over quantity is depicted at Sear. The best part is that they buy their produce and meats locally. We had a great experience. Here are some photos to convince you to support this restaurant.
Thoroughly enjoyed my meal at Sear while traveling through Rapid City. My server, Morgan, was attentive and kind. My sirloin was on point and seasoned perfectly. The French Onion soup was wonderful. The truffel fries were hot and crispy on the outside and soft and steamy on the inside...so good! I highly recommend a stop at Sear for a culinary delight!
We stumbled upon this steakhouse by chance, and I just have to share two things with you: 1. First — the staff. Super friendly and welcoming! They really know how to take care of their guests and do their job well. 2. Second — the steak I ordered. Yes, I’m one of those weirdos who always goes for well-done steaks, but whoever cooked mine was an absolute wizard. I have three favorite places in the country for steak, and now this one makes it four. If you’re in the mood for a perfectly cooked steak for dinner — you have to stop by this place!
Lovely venue, good food and gracious staff. Their menu has changed from what can be found in Google, no wedge salad, no truffle fries, but still enough items to make dining there worthwhile. The Chocolate dessert is a must-have!
From the moment we entered, we were treated like we were the most important people there! Our server was Kaysie and she made us feel like every decision was just the best – offering ideas and detailed descriptions for every question we asked. Scallops for the appetizer, ribeye, medium rare, baked, potato, wedge salad, and special oil infused fries- everything was perfection. I am looking forward to my next visit and I hope Kaysie will be our server again-
My wife and I finally decided to check this place out since the transition from Shooters. I have to say, we were impressed! We sat at the bar, and the bar tender was amazing! Super friendly and knew his stuff. We ordered quite a few things, and I only took a picture of the scallops! Ha. Food was amazing, steak was cooked to perfection, and the drinks were great! We had no complaints or issues. Looking forward to going back! Prices were what you'd expect at a steakhouse, so don't be surprised there. Also, the atmosphere was amazing! Quiet and could hold a conversation.
All in all I give this restaurant a 5 because you can tell they are trying. Food was on point. Service as well. Service from Ryan was excellent. Food was very good: filet was tasty and price point very similar to restaurants in the same category (DelMonico), pumpkin cheesecake was probably the best I’ve had in a while. Ambience lacked. For the size restaurant, there were many tables, creating a louder than expected ambience. The lighting was brighter than what they were aiming for, I believe. The restaurant was nicely updated with new furniture, flooring and decor from the previous restaurant. A solid addition to the list of restaurants in Rapid, for sure. Best of luck for a successful endeavor.
Excellent place to get a steak! The wine selection was very nice. The menu is varied enough to try something new every time without feeling like there are an overwhelming amount of choices. The steak was prepared perfectly with a hint of seasoning to enhance the natural texture and flavors. I look forward to coming back and trying something else.
Excellent, our waiter was very attentive, the food was absolutely delicious and the atmosphere is very pleasant and clean.
Our server was super friendly (can't recall his name) and not only knowledgeable of the menu, but he was also well versed in the drink menu. He was patient and took his time explaining everything to us from the bread to the sides to the way the steak was going to be prepared (it was our first visit). They asked us to cut into our steaks right away to ensure proper temp had been achieved, ensured our glasses did not run empty, as well as checked on us regularly. Towards the end of our visit, the manager made time to come over and check as well. As for the food, the flavors here exceeded expectations. The bread (amazing) and meats (well-seasoned and super tender) are sourced as locally as possible. The sides were also very flavorful, and I must mention different. The mashed potatoes had a unique flavor that the wife (who does not normally like them) and I could not put our finger on but loved! The plain and wrapped asparagus were the same, great taste but different than other places (not run of the mill). Lastly my wife who loves croutons said they were some of the best she has ever had. We were overly impressed and will be returning regularly.
Too many high top tables. A good steak should be savored and it's hard to do that when you feel like a kiddo in a high chair. Light and ambiance was great. Service excellent and beyond. I am a steak snob and bring my own custom knife so I didn't get a look at their cutlery since my dining partner had a burger. Which was huge and looked amazing . The filet and scallops were great.
I had some of the best food there! Ot might be one of our new date night spots. Our server was phenomenal, very nice kid and good at his job. They place was very clean and it was just beautiful inside.
We went for brunch, which was very reasonably priced for the quality of food! Food was great, I had the chicken and waffles, a very thin cut chicken cutlet with extra crunchy breading. Topped with a raspberry reduction and butter. Delicious! My partner had the steak -Benedict dish, which he was very happy with. Tim was attentive and took care of our every request. He was even able to seat us in a quiet corner, which was very helpful to anyone who is hard of hearing. We will be back 😁
In town for vacation with something to celebrate, tried this place due to great reviews. Great food - delicious ceasar salad, perfectly cooked steak and the mashed potatoes were creamy and delicious. Service was quick and friendly, Jack was great! Would absolutely recommend!
The server was excellent. He was knowledgeable of gluten free options and if he didn't, he was on top of it to figure it out. The food was flavorful and the restaurant was clean. Excellent all around!
Impressive! Our server, Shelby, was very knowledgeable and friendly. Our food was delicious and plated beautifully. I would definitely recommend Sear for your steak night! My husband got the pork and it was so tender, juicy and flavorful. We both took home leftovers 😃 We will be back!
The place has class. I ordered a New York Strip. Perfection is not even close to a good enough description to what came to me on my plate. The steak was so good, it probably was a sin to eat. It should have been put on display and exhibited around the world! I highly recommend eating here, definitely try the Net York strip!
We had a fantastic late lunch! Absolutely delicious and wonderfully homemade touches throughout the meal! Highly recommend! Beautiful atmosphere and our service was friendly and fun!
This local steakhouse is one of the best I’ve ever eaten at. The filets are always cooked perfectly and the miso butter addition is out of this world. What a great place to spend an evening of fellowship with 2 or 15 people…. I cannot give it a higher recommendation.
What a great dining experience we had, everything we ordered was absolutely perfect. Steaks were cooked to perfection, the bread with the garlic of butter was incredible. Thank you to our Waiter Tim, He made this experience memorable!!
Met a friend at Sear, he had never been in, so it was my choice. The service was awesome, the food was so delicious and presentation was beautiful. The server suggested an appetizer that was very good. All plates were brought right on time and we had a great night talking with each other and the server . She was just so sweet and made sure we had all we needed. This is a place that makes me wish I lived in Rapid City, but ill just crave it from home. 😀
Step through the doors of Sear and you’ll feel as though you’ve entered a sanctuary for adventurers who crave refinement as well as sustenance. This is no common tavern—this is a hall of elegance, where the flames of the kitchen conjure art as much as nourishment. The scallops arrived like rare jewels, seared with such precision they seemed blessed by culinary magic. The steak—glorious, perfectly charred—was a masterpiece of fire and flavor, the kind of dish worthy of a royal feast. Every plate felt like treasure won, each bite restoring vitality and delight. And then there was our server. Ah, the bard of the evening! With a voice that could launch campaigns and a wit that could charm dragons, he elevated the entire experience. His timing, his humor, and his effortless charisma turned dinner into theater. Truly, one wonders why he is not yet performing on grand stages—or lending his voice to the epics that echo across kingdoms. The ambiance of Sear is chic and glowing: warm light dancing against modern lines, an atmosphere both inviting and elevated. It is the kind of place where one might imagine guild leaders and spellcasters convening—serious enough for council, but with enough sparkle for revelry. Five radiant stars. Dining at Sear is not simply a meal, but a natural 20 on the dice of life—an evening of charm, laughter, and flavors that will follow you long after the quest has ended.
If someone could kiss the chef on the mouth, I’d appreciate it! I had the surf and turf, the steak was perfectly cooked medium rare and simply seasoned to perfection. The scallops were buttery and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The staff was so friendly and welcoming. It was the last meal of our honeymoon and by far the best.
We were traveling and sightseeing in Rapid City, SD. I found a local steakhouse online and we had dinner there. The hostess, atmosphere, and Brecklynn, our server were outstanding, but the best art was a 12 oz. Sirloin Steak ! We have never had such a fabulous steak !
Was in town for a tumbling competition and wanted to celebrate. We had an amazing dinner! Steaks were amazing, tender and flavorful. Salads large and fresh. Warm bread with garlic oil dipping sauce. Drinks excellent. Jack, our server, was awesome. Recommend!
Came in to get dinner. We had been here a few years ago and were not impressed. But we were in a hurry and wanted something close. Wow, what a difference! Sheila was our server. She was awesome! She made suggestions and made extra sure that we were happy with our meals. I would consider this to be one of the top restaurants in Rapid City at this point.
Went to Sturgis with my big bro this year… We ate at Sear, and it was the best steak I have ever had in my life! 10/10 recommend!
The staff were very accommodating, we had a baby and did not have reservations, we were seated right away and didn’t have to wait for service, the food was top shelf, we were checked on frequently and our drinks were refilled frequently. Best sweet potatoes I’ve eaten, steaks were cooked to our specifications, seasoning was superb and the meat was tender and flavorful. Easily the best steak I’ve eaten, dessert was delicious. Easily A++
We have been several times now to Sear and have nothing but rave reviews. Most recently post holidays we went for their creative mocktails and lighter fare. They are sourcing their ingredients from great places like Snake River Farms and Prairie Harvest. The atmosphere is a modern aesthetic but feels so cozy tucked into one of their high back leather booths. Definitely a must try in Rapid City!! I like to think of us as regulars now.
Was very skeptical when we arrived as it appears as though the property is an upscaled former chain restaurant. They've done a great job modernizing. Service was fantastic. Wine & beer selection great. Food was fantastic. The steak enhancements are a nice twist. Would have liked to see thicker steaks and a larger dessert menu. All in all a great experience.
I went to Sear Steakhouse for their monthly date night. I can't put into words how amazing dinner was; every dish was coordinated, fresh and cooked to perfection. The server was young, but very polished and professional. My fiance is very selective with foods and can be a harsh critic; he loved everything and we feel honored to have been given such an amazing dining experience, we'll treasure it until next time.
This place taste way better than it looks. The service is great and the servers are super attentive. I had Tim as my server and a girl who just started. I forgot her name, but she was the sweetest. The food tastes amazing and they have great enhancements for the dishes. Food is farm to table and has a healthy twist to their soups. Daily soups, fresh salads, perfectly cooked snake river farms ribeye, and crispy fries. I can't complain. The sweet carrot pureed soup was the perfect start to the meal after a long day hiking. Brie with mushroom pita appetizer was phenomenal. The caesar salad was crisp and fresh. Steak with the whiskey creme enhancer was a game changer. Perfect combo. Truffle fries were fried to a perfect crisp. Prices are great for the amount of food you get. Will be back whenever I am in the area.
Ok so we have another Steakhouse to go with the other 3 that we already have and no I do not count places like Perkins or Applebee's for steak places! This place will rank right along with Longhorn, Dakota, and Texas Steakhouses. Let's begin with the atmosphere since it is the first thing you will notice coming here. It has really nice subtle lighting, nice big booths that could fit 6 people comfortably and really nice selection of music playing from Sade to Vanessa Carlton. The atmosphere hits on all the key points for me and they don't disappoint at all:) Next will come the service. Our server was very kind, respectful and helpful with us since it was our first time and we didn't know what exactly is good or not. Came back several times to check on us which was also really nice, and even asked if we wanted dessert or not. Service did not disappoint here as well:) The food, how was it? Well it is quite tasty from the Salmon that I ordered to the 7oz Steak my partner ordered. Do note that the steaks are just seasoned with salt and pepper I believe, they do not have a sauce on them unless you order that separately with it but you will be charged extra for the toppings! The salad was good and the dessert was also good. My only let down with this place wasn't the price it was the fact when you go to a place that you know your going to pay $50 per person why would you give me such a little amount on my sides for my main dinner? I had as you can see in the pic only 2 pieces of asparagus and a scoop of potatoes. This was the only let down this place had for me. I know the salmon was supposed to be the main dish but if it comes with sides then give me sides and not samples! You can't go wrong if you choose this place! It ranks in quality with the Longhorn here in Rapid City as being a good steakhouse. This place honestly deserves above a 4 stars but not a 5 stars. The price here is worth it since you are getting the whole package of great food, service and atmosphere. This will definitely not be a regular place to eat at, but one for special occasions. Once or twice a year:) Nice addition to Rapid City!!
If I had to guess I would say our meat was frozen. The chef mixed up orders and we were told to cut into the middle of ribeye Steak to see if they were to our liking. The presentation was beautiful. I go to dinner with carnivores, and not one person finished their meal. Never! Our wait person was a delight.
We wanted to try something different and glad we did. I only gave 4 stars because they do not have a French (or preferably Dorothy Lynch) dressing. We will be back.
Pretty good food, the menu's kinda limited. The atmosphere isn't really my cup of tea, a little on the stiff side. The staff is super awesome though and help make it a little more comfortable.
Gluten free options would be nice. Corona beer which is gluten free and bread would be nice for sandwiches. Then the place would be perfect.
We decided to try Sear for an anniversary dinner and it was OK, but we found ourselves generally underwhelmed. The Good: The steaks were cooked as ordered, tender and flavorful. It was a good cut of meat and done right. I’d give 4 stars if I was just reviewing the steaks. The goat cheese cigars were pretty good. The prices were also reasonable. The Meh: Pretty much everything else. Our server was ok, but we were sitting for close to 20 minutes before we even got drinks. They were busy, but not crazy busy, and everything was just a little off. Sides forgotten, slow, just meh. The sides were all well below what I’d expect at this kind of steak house. We tried the Brussel sprouts and they were soaked in oil and basically just covered with Parmesan. The truffle garlic butter was basically just butter for an extra charge on the side. The salad had so much huge chunky Parmesan in it that it overpowered everything. Like almost more cheese than lettuce. Was weird. And that was a house salad. Baked potato was fine but not impressive for any reason. The bread before the meal was good, but the garlic, oil, butter concoction was just ok. Balance was off. Bottom line, we won’t be back. There are better options in the area for a good steak.
I gave atmosphere a 2 because we came for a romantic birthday dinner and rock music played the entire time!! Uuggg. It was not a nice dinner music atmosphere. For a high end expensive dinner, the music should reflect that - not rock and roll!! Also, we were celebrating a birthday and nothing recognized that. No special dessert. Very disappointed. Lastly, don’t bring all the food out so quickly. As a high end fine restaurant, act like it!! Space the drinks and food. We’re not at McDonalds.
We came in for our anniversary on Friday the 21st and I ordered the filet and scallops. Was sooo excited. When it was brought out I think I gasped. My fillet was maybe 2 oz if even, I had 3 bites worth of mashed potatoes, 5 carrots and 2 small scallops. This was a $48 dinner! Anywhere else I've been the filet is at least 4-6 oz and u get a mound of mashers and 5 or 6 scallops if they r not U10, which these were for sure not. Was still hungry when I left. This is something LA or Scottsdale can pull off, not Rapid City SD. What little there was it did taste really good and the waiter was amazing.
Very disappointed in the food. Mashed potatoes were very salty! Didn't offer any discount or apology. Would not recommend this place
Came here with the lady on valentines day. Highway robbery to say the least. 150$ meal for two, not very crowded at all (several open tables the entire time we were there) but they were rushing us out the door for some reason it seemed, within 10 minutes we were on our 3rd course. The next courses were brought out to us when we were about halfway done through each. We had the filets (very very good steaks ill give them that but the portions were very small on all courses), before we were even done with our steaks our brownie/ice cream desert was brought out and it started melting before we could even start. Very disappointed, ive never gone out of my way to leave a review on a restaurant but the experience we just had on Valentines day was worth sharing. Id consider myself easy to please, but this was not up to par with what I thought this restaurant would be, especially on a special occasion such as Valentines day.
A group of us visited Sear for lunch today for the first time, and unfortunately, we were Not impressed. The restaurant previously operated as Shooters, which we found to be much better overall. While the interior of Sear is nice — clearly a lot was invested in the décor, over the top- including high-end chairs / decor and upholstery — the food simply doesn’t match the upscale appearance or the prices they charge. The food was very average, with nothing particularly impressive. Even the French fries tasted like something you could get from fast food chain. The quality was average at best, and certainly not worth the cost. I would rate the food 3 stars, mainly for presentation and atmosphere, but the value for money is definitely lacking. Sadly, we have no plans to return. Very disappointing. Definitely would not recommend.
17$ burgers that taste frozen, and my "hand cut" 26$ fillet was 3 bites. Waitress even commented, "I thought that looked small." Will not be returning.
I usually never leave bad reviews but I am so disappointed with this restaurant. They were out of half of the menu! I ordered the miso cod and it was not good. It was bland and wet (and lukewarm) sitting on a pile of wet mashed potatoes. I couldn’t even eat it. It was supposed to come with caramelized roasted carrots per the menu, but they didn’t even mention that they were out of carrots. I mentioned it to the waiter but he didn’t seem to care. They were out of ribeyes, filets, they were out of cucumbers for the salads. We of course were charged full price. The waiter didn’t even check on us so our drinks didn’t get refilled. The restaurant wasn’t even busy and there was ample staffing, they were just standing around and not paying attention. We won’t be back. You are better off going to the Arby’s across the parking lot for better quality food and you won’t spend $100.
Honestly if I could rate this place a zero I would!! We were seated right away and that was it; sat at our table for 20 minutes and no one came to our table. We watched servers walk past us to check on other tables besides us, next to us etc. We did not have a large party just a table of three. After the 20 minutes of being ignored we got up and left; as we were leaving we seen two servers who had walked past our table standing at the front of restaurant talking and joking, my husband explained to them how we had been sitting for 20 minutes and no one even came to check on us and that their customer service is terrible and we would take our business elsewhere! While we were on vacation in South Dakota we shared that experience with other people we met so they would not have the same thing happen to them as well.
