Amazing place, with great food, live music and friendly staff. There is a seasonal rotating menu. The summer Moroccan stew and lamb pizza dishes were very good. I asked for the stew recipe and the chef came over and told me how he made it himself. Take a walk around the boat houses afterwards to check out the art sculptures.
My visit to Sailing Goat on its opening day offered a blend of delightful and disappointing experiences. The restaurant boasts a prime location with waterfront views nestled in the hills, providing a serene ambiance perfect for a lunch outing. However, my dinner experience diverged sharply due to a few key aspects. Cuisine Quality: The Calamari, while seasoned to perfection and coated just right, was unfortunately served cold and had a rubbery texture. Similarly, the chicken in the Little Gem Caesar salad left much to be desired - it was cold, rubbery, and bland. These dishes were so underwhelming that my girlfriend and I decided they were best taken home for our dogs, a decision we rarely make when dining out. Atmosphere: Sailing Goat's setting is its strongest suit, especially during lunch. The waterfront location offers a peaceful retreat. Dinner, however, presented a stark contrast due to the live bluegrass music. While my girlfriend found it enjoyable, I felt it was overly loud and intrusive, detracting from the ability to relax and engage in conversation amidst the beautiful setting. Pricing: The cost of dining here leans towards the expensive, with a canned beer priced at $12 and a small brownie at $10. Despite the high prices and the food not meeting expectations, the brownie was delicious, albeit cold and small. Conclusion: While Sailing Goat shines with its stunning location and has potential as a lunch spot, there's significant room for improvement in food quality and managing noise levels during dinner. If the focus is on enjoying a beer or wine with a view, it's worth a visit. However, for those seeking a fulfilling dining experience, it's essential the restaurant addresses these issues.
It was Father's Day when I came to visit this spot. A hidden restaurant but a treasure to be explored! On non-holidays, I'm sure it won't be too busy. Weekends they say are busy but weekdays shouldn't be a hassle. When I went with my family, it was first come first serve although the phone was ringing. Anyways, this restaurant sits by the water. A great spot as boats pass by or dock in. Restrooms are a walking distance along with house boats and parking spaces only for residents. There is plenty of parking infront of the restaurant. This place is dog friendly :) We were seated by the pizza oven where they handmade the pizzas. Quite a sight to see. The Margherita pizza was bland and the cheese wasn't melted. The Portuguese pie was delicious, I enjoyed that one! Fish and chips are one of the popular dishes. The fish fillet was golden brown and soft with the tartar sauce ooo-weee gotta get that! After brunch was finished, you can go take a walk by the coastline. Abandoned train tracks that lead to a trail. A small park for your children to have fun. Their own zoo with goats, though you can't pet the goats only can see. This location was a sight I unlocked, hope to find more out in the bay!
A Hidden gem at the San Pablo harbor. Small and a peaceful marina with some living boats to pait over the atmosphere of this wonderful restaurant. I had the vegan lentil curry and with every bite I discovered new and interesting flavors. We went there around 4pm on a Sat and there was also a live band playing. Perfect atmosphere and tasty food, what else can you ask for?
Getting to the restaurant was a bit strange as you go up and down narrow road. But once you’re there, you’re greeted by several huge statues. We go to the restaurant around a late lunch/early dinner time and it was not too busy but by the time we left the restaurant started getting busy. After enjoying the lovely meal, we got to walk the beach and enjoy the bay scenery. I’ll also note that cell signal is a little spotty and the restaurant is very dog friendly.
My wife and I were in need of getting someplace outside with a view. He had heard of the Sailing Goat Restaurant, so decided to give it a try. Once we arrived, we felt a world away with outstanding views of San Pablo Bay. The servers were friendly and helpful. Our food and wine were perfect for the occasion. We will return again!
Great spot to grab a bite before heading on to Eastbrothers Lighthouse. Service was friendly and snappy. Rest room are a little walk down to the docks. We had the fish and chips was fantastic!
A really fun place to spend several hours just great atmosphere really unique incredibly giant creative sculptures and the food is delicious, they had some great music when I was there. The view is spectacular, its real peaceful
Great food: fish and chips, lentil/tomato seafood stew. Service was good (not great). View is incredible. Will return.
Gosh I love this place. Just delighted every time I get to go. I thought it was closed in the winter but my boyfriend biked out during the rain break yesterday and said he had a lovely snack and beer there! I am so jealous that I’m making him bike 30 miles out and back again today. Let’s give this place some love in the winter weather! We ride gravel bikes so that descent to the marina won’t be a big deal - but some of my roadie friends can’t deal. Their loss! See yall soon, Sailing Goat friends!
Amazing pizza, like focaccia loaded with cheese and delicious things. We loved the beet salad too. The brandade and Ceasar salad were good.
Awesome hidden gem tucked away in a cute little marina that I didn't know existed. It's a perfect afternoon getaway. The food is delicious. Simple and unique menu with good options for people with different diets. Most of their best items just happen to be gluten free. Even the fish and chips, and they do the best fish n chips ever. It's a great place for brunch or an afternoon. Nice selection of beers and wines, live music in the afternoons. It can get cold in the winter since it is all outside, but they have heatlamps and the seating area is covered. Today was a perfect day, low 60s, and the roof lets the light in and acts like a greenhouse so it kept it nice and warm. They have heatlamps for when it's not so warm out. Staff is sweet. Service can sometimes be slow but this is not really a place you want to be in a rush. The food is made fresh and can take some time to come out when it's busy. Only little glitch we had today was the chowder came out cold (pretty much room temp) but once I mentioned it, they took it back and brought us back a bowl of piping hot chowder. I think it was just sitting out while waiting for the fish to be ready. Not a big deal and they took care of it promptly and even made sure it we were happy with it. The fish chowder is delicious. The fish n chips are probably the best I have had in the bay area. I went for the option to add a grilled cheese which was also really good - smoked cheddar on Acme batard toasted in a panini press. Apple crumble was also so good. You wouldn't even know the crust is gluten free. Came here for brunch a few months ago with friends and we all loved everything we ordered. Their salads and appetizers are really good too. Prices are reasonable for the quality and portions. Food is fresh and thoughtfully prepared.
What a cool spot! An online post had said this place has good fish and chips; but it had more than just that. Good vibes, band playing on a Saturday (when we visited), and a good variety of items on their menu. Taking a stroll out here was cool too. Service was slightly slow - but that was ok since we didn’t feel rushed. Many of us were surprised this place existed and didn’t know it was out there. Will be back…
A hidden gem in Richmond! I only had the Fish and Chips and it was the best I have ever had. The batter was thin but insanely crispy, so it was really the fish that I was eating. Talking about the fish, it was fresh, tender and flavourful, I highly recommend it! I came on a weekday so the restaurant wasn’t that packed but like 50% filled, the server was friendly and attentive. The restaurant offers great view of sea, which is peaceful to look at. The bathroom was clean and pretty spacious (and it is a shack), and I was delightedly surprised. By the way, the restaurant is dog friendly, will definitely go again.
This place is truly a hidden gem in Richmond and in the Bay Area. I've heard about it years ago, but never came to explore this place and then this past weekend without checking to see if it was still open and functioning, I decided to pay a visit. The road is narrow with blind sharp turns so drive slow and share the road. It feels like you're lost at times, but keep going. I had had lunch before coming here so I didn't check out the restaurant, but the atmosphere felt nice and cozy.
We had such a great time at Sailing Goat! The music was on point, the vibe was relaxed and fun, and the whole place just felt welcoming. And the fish and chips? Absolutely delish—crispy, flavorful, and hit the spot. Definitely a place we’ll be coming back to. If you’re looking for a fun night out with great music, good food, and great vibes, this spot is worth checking out 🍻🎶
As a gigging musician (The Real John Gary) you cannot beat this spot. Incredibly family-friendly and dog friendly. Best fish-n-chips in the bay. Always a friendly crowd and friendly staff. Oh, yea, and the view. Come out on Friday/Saturday/Sunday for great live music. Thanks for supporting local musicians!
Great spot for live music and good food. Hidden away on the bay, it's such a hidden gem. The chicken shawarma and the fish & chips were both great.
What a treat! I had never heard of this little gem before, but the food was delicious, the weekend atmosphere was wonderful (live music after 1 pm), the sunshine was beautiful, and we had a great time I plan to return!
My family and I enjoyed lunch at Sailing Goat. This is a very popular place so had a bit of a wait but worth it. Their fish and chips are the best. The whole area is interesting with a casual feel: the goats, Burning Man Installations, houseboats, very interesting shoreline, live music, dog and child friendly. My grandson had fun enjoying the very old work out bike and moto. Even the drive there is amazingly scenic. Best of all their food is worth the wait.Suggest. Fish and chips.
Gluten free fish and chips were fab. Servers and staff very nice. Had a lemon Gluten Free dessert that was very good. Gluten Free Beer from Otherwise... Loved it. Nice view of the water too. Very out of the way place...so worth it.
An absolute hidden gem! I started looking on the map for a restaurant with a good view and not only did we get a nice view, but we also had a little mini adventure drive to get to the location. You have maybe 3 minutes of twist and turn driving, but the way you pop out to the harbor is just pure eye candy. The food was nothing short of delicious, they have a very intentionally small, seasonal menu, but rest assured that everything is great. We had the Brandade as an appetizer and it was very well done. The waiter was nice enough to give us some extra bread for the clam chowder, and the fish and chips were divine! The service was all very quick and efficient. I don’t think they have a restroom, but I did spot a porta potty across from the seating area. Oh the seating is all outside, I didn’t expect that but it was fine as they had the portable heaters. I would love to come here in the summer when it’s hot inland!
Due to the popularity of the band, Shipwrecked Shanty, it took us about an hour and 15 minutes to get a table, but it was sooo worth it!! Incredible music, incredible food, and incredible service!!! Please bring back the band!!!
Great fish and chips, amazing squash and lentils, delicious ginger cake. Good beer choices. Great vibe, hidden gem. *update* have been back multiple times since the first visit, every time the food is great, vibe is good. They have live music most saturday nights.
We absolutely love this place! What a fantastic find! This place is a hidden gem tucked away away at the tip of Point San Pablo. The food was fantastic. We ordered the fish and chips. The fish was wonderfully fried and super crispy. We sipped rosé, listening to wonderful live Brazilian music, while watching the sunset. What better way to spend the weekend. To top it off, the staff were all incredibly welcoming and friendly. We even met the owner, who stopped by to welcome us. He told us that they had opened only 4 weeks ago! Bravissimo! Please come and visit this wonderful spot. You won't regret it!
Incredible food in a beautiful remote setting. Randomly met the very kind owner of the restaurant while walking (thank you!). Very remote and off the beaten path, if you are looking for extremely fast service I’d say to go elsewhere as this is a relaxed place where you can enjoy the slowness and peace of the setting. Live music was a wonderful addition.

What a cool spot in a most unlikely location. The road going to it is twisty, steep, and riddled with pot holes and is next to the chevron refinery with barbed wire fences. You think “there’s no way this is the right way” and you’re heading into Area 51! Then you pop out in this hidden harbor and there are sailboats and houseboats and large art installations. But most importantly, the food is fabulous. I got the Mac and cheese, and my sister in law and I shared a Caesar salad. Bro and nephew got the fish and chips, and mom got the chowder. Everything was delicious! It’s outdoor dining in a covered gravel-floor patio. They have outdoor heaters so it’s not uncomfortably cold, but definitely dress for outside dining. Everything about it, getting there, the food, the location, and the vibe, all add up to a fantastic experience. Highly recommended.

The atmosphere was awesome! Live music, outdoors with scenic views. The food was pretty good, but pretty expensive. The seafood gumbo thing was yummy, but for $30 was very little. The fish n chips were pretty good but also quite expensive. Service was great. Overall, yummy, just pricey.
A very cute locals place to visit. It has a turn of the century charm. Located in an area where you can take calming , walks along the bay front. There's a small Little Beach nearby. You can enjoy the waves and the sun and it feels very private. There's a local Marina that you can walk on the outside of and enjoy all of the homes and small shops In the water.
The food…whatever little there was was pretty good The atmosphere is different, rustic . It was a cold day but heat lamps made it comfortable. I thought there’d be a view, but not while seated at the restaurant. Musician contributed to the relaxing atmosphere
Great vibe and location. We’ve been here dozens of times, felt like i owed them a review. Food - High quality, expertly prepared. The menu changes a bit here and there but fish and chips are always a banger. Right now the watermelon salad is one of the best things I’ve ever eaten there. I do miss the pizzas. We used to go way more when they had the pizzas going. Bev - Good variety of local beer, etc. It’s what you would expect. Service - Great! A real family atmosphere. Sometimes a bit disorganized, but the people are warm and caring. Atmosphere - it’s top notch. The live music is so loud that we cant have a conversation at most tables. But if you come when there’s no live music sailing goat is relaxing as could be. Just need to time it right, not a biggie. Maybe one day they’ll get the marina dredged and we can bring our boat.
This is such a funky, kitschy little area. It's hard to get to on some seriously windy, narrow roads, but there are some spectacular views of the San Pablo Bay along the way. Once you descend into the harbor, you pass goat crossings and actual goats and then the road opens up into this weirdly adorable little marina with stunning views of the water, hills, and also of the dock, artsy homes, and random art installations. The food at the restaurant is pretty good but a bit too pricey. The menu is also VERY limited. However, the staff are amazing, and the vibe and views really can't be beat. To top it all off they have live music almost every night so, overall, this place is more than worth it, even if just for the novelty!!
Sailing Goat Restaurant is one of those hidden gems that "probably" most locals know about and only outsiders like myself et el discover through television show recognitions. I saw this in a television show maybe a couple years ago and always wanted to go but the stars never aligned until today, June 15th, 2025, Fathers Day, when my wife independently sought this restaurant out and asked my son and me to go. So we made short drive from the East Bay westward to the last exit on Interstate 580 before entering the Richmond Bridge where there would be no turning back without a toll charge......so be careful, if you miss that 7A/Stenmark Drive turnoff, you're ^*%*##*! .....$8.00 toll bill as of this date, but more importantly, lost time and position in line at the restaurant! .....now cut to the chase, it was Fathersday understandably, and though we arrived at around 11:02am (the restaurant opens at 11:00am on this day), there already a light almost to the parking lot as shown in one of my photos. But that didn't discourage us, the line started moving, we were sure we would get a table.......wrong! We end up about 12 parties from the last seat, and you know what the last seat means, we would have to wait another 1 to 1-1/2 hours for any table to open up when the first cluster of people finish their meals and leave......and we were about 12 parties behind the last of the first cluster of people......but I digress and we persisted. Again, keep in mind this was a Fathersday crowd too, YMMV. We were finally sat about 10' from the live band which I thought was a little too loud at our distance but manageable. The waiter was a young kid...come to think of it, the entire staff looked pretty young......but probably because I'm pretty old! LOL! The entire staff was very cordial and respectful. I got the Seafood Stew and an IPA beer. My wife got some sort of salad and a Pilfner beer, and my son got the fish and chips with a cider which turned to out to be alcoholic and that he didn't realize. We also got a chickpea/garbonzo bean fries appetizer which came with a dip and they were very good. I'll only review my Seafood Stew here since I didn't taste my wife's salad nor my son's fish and chips, though the fish and chips looked mighty tasty and abundant. Fwiw, I would have tried my son's fish and chips, but he gobbled it up like he's been eating college dorm food for the past year......and he has! LOL! .....but I digress again as I tend to do in my old age, LOL. Anyhow, back to the Seafood Stew. The "stew" was not so much a stew as it was a cioppino "soup", very watery, not like a stew at all which has a much thicker stock. That aside, the taste was pleasant without being overpowering. But none of that matters since all that stuck in my mind is the smallness of any of the individual ingredients. The shrimps were just a little larger than popcorn shrimps, the mussels were at least half the size I am used to, and the fish was frugal. Even the potatoes where less than 3/4" cubes! ! Think the 1989 movie "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" starring Rick Moranis and others, and you get the exaggerated version of this soupy Cioppino made for those shrunken kids. Come on, Mr. hip Bohemian Sailing Goat by the bay, up your game and bring it to the next level. I know times are tough with the tarrifs and the economy, and you have to balance the quality and substance of your offerings with staying alive, but hopefully you can find that middle ground that shows who you can be, and who you can be is a bay area destination where there is a lot of nothing in the area except for your worthy food that can't be experienced anywhere else. I give you a 5 for your staff and their cordiality and the lively atmosphere, maybe a 3 for the seafood stew, and I'll still give you the benefit of the doubt that you will be the little engine that could, and give you a 4 overall.

It was busy but there was no wait. We arrived for an early dinner. We had the chowder which was very good. I was looking forward to trying the fish and chips. The waiter forgot to provide the vinegar (I would have asked but service was a little slow) and the fish crust seemed a little over fried. I also appreciated that there were no fish options on the menu. There's a beautiful view around that area and it's secluded which makes it special as well. Didn't get to try dessert but the options looked nice.
The menu this last Saturday wasn't great. Everything we ordered was bland and needed seasoning, with the exception of the salad. We've came in the past and the menu was better and If there wasn't something we liked on the menu then we would have pizza. However, now the pizza oven is shut down. Our younger make server was good, and quick Our food came on time. However when we ordered dessert It took very long to get. They switched servers. It was only a couple coconut macaroons and A lemon custard. Things that are pre-made nothing requiring cooking. Macaroons we're dry, lemon custard was good. Need to get that pizza oven back up and running! For the price everything needs to be perfect! If it's not, it's not worth the drive here !!!
Heard this place was popping and decided to stop by this past weekend. Since it’s a holiday weekend, we were told it could be up to an hour wait but were seated around 30 minutes. We loved the outdoor vibe, live entertainment, and beautiful weather. Staff was friendly and attentive. However, it did take awhile to get our fish and chips, ~45 minutes. The texture of the breading was amazing, a combination of flaky and crunchy, however, unfortunately the fish tasted really bitter almost as if it were on the burnt side or maybe fried in older oil. Also, the fries were on the colder side. Unsure if the quality was off due to being a busy night on a holiday weekend but it was hard to overlook the overwhelming bitter flavor. I’d be curious to try the other dishes but I probably wouldn’t go back for the fish and chips.
Limited menu and slow service, but great craft beer selection. Highly recommend going on the weekend for live music.
One of the messiest restaurants I've ever been to. 10-15 min just to put our names on the list, 20 min to get a table ready when several were available but not cleaned yet. We've not seen our waiter after the order. Had to wait in line 5-10 more min to pay since nobody would come. The same happened for the tables next to us. Food was okay. The place is nice and atypical, could be a great place.
I like the location, the food was good but when it was time to pay apparently there was no way to get a paper receipt or see the actual charges on the electronic machine and we didn’t know that the tip had been charged already at 20% which is fine but the server requested more tip implying that the tip wasn’t charged. When we got to our car and did the math, we realized that the tip was charged. Sketchy service 😑

When we got there, we were directed to go to an overflow parking lot and had to hike to the restaurant. It was a beautiful day so why not. We got there and saw a very long line. We waited for over an hour. Finally got greeted by a hostess when we got closer to her table. No expectations set of how long the food will take to be served nor was there an expectation set when we got there since the hostess never really walked all the way out to the parking lot to talk to people. Finally got seated. Still feeling positive about the food we're about to order. Immediately placed it. 15mins later server came back asking if someone delivered our drink. Uh - our table is empty so it's obvious we didn't get our drinks yet. Server came back after 5mins but with the wrong drinks. Gave it to another table. Came back after 10mins, still no drinks. He keeps forgetting. Another mins he came back next to our table - he was avoiding us this time and finally came back again after 5mins and he didn't bring us drinks. He brought us a ticket just to show us that the ticket was marked as out of stock for the soda water. Still he didn't bring the hot coffee. Geez! Finally he came back with another flavor of the soda water and coffee. This place didn't even have non-sugar sweeteners to cater to diabetics like us! That's a first time for us to hear. Server then starts putting down drinks and he spilled the creamer. Oh gosh! What else could go wrong???? At this time we"ve been sitting waiting for food for about 30mins. Server said it takes about 30mins to serve the food. To cut the very long agonizing story short, we had them just pack our food to go. But I told the server if that didn't even come in 5mins, we're leaving. 5mins came and we just stood up, looked for our server and told him we're no longer waiting so we will just pay for the drinks. He was trying to check us out but even his portable terminal was not responding. By this time I'm 1000 % sure we're NEVER EVER coming back. I feel bad for the server because he will never make his tips this way. I didn't even see a manager around to talk to. It's obvious that people who work at this place DON'T COMMUNICATE with each other. Hostess NEVER set people's expectations about the wait and serving time. Server did not communicate the wait before getting served their food. The bar and kitchen never communicated of what things were out and how backed up the kitchen is. This restaurant serve fried stuff. Nothing gourmet. So I didn't really understand the back up in serving the food. Will I recommend this place? 1000% NO. Will ai ever even think about coming back? 2000% NO I just hope the management / owners take these reviews seriously and address people's comments about the service and food. There's so much competition in the Bay area that it's easy for people to never come back because of something that could've been addressed or made better. I wish I read reviews on Yelp and Google before we even decided to go. We wasted 3hrs of a great Sunday for nothing.
After my second visit, I decided there will not be a third. Fish and chips were greasy and soggy again. The soup still has no flavor. I wish someone would teach this chef how to make a classic Cesar Salad (I figured the little gems would be a safe bet to order, but it was garbage) I wouldn’t recommend driving all the way out there to eat if you’re a foodie, but if the weather is nice, the harbor there is worth visiting.
