I had an incredible experience here! The service was exceptional—our waitress was welcoming, fast, and always had a smile on her face. I tried the classic fried chicken, and it was crispy, juicy, and absolutely delicious. The sides, especially the cornbread and green beans, were equally fantastic. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, with wooden booths and soft, golden lighting that creates a relaxing atmosphere. It’s a charming place to unwind and enjoy comforting, flavorful food.
I'd like to think I'm a part time regular now... this place has no business being as great not good as great as they are. Super friendly staff, amazing portions, priced fairly, and amazing taste overall. I just recently tried the bonanza burger on the lunch menu because I was stuck on breakfast and whoa... that ranch those onion rings, the fries had my taste buds on overload amazing!!! Can't wait til mom is back in town so we can go again!!! Keep up the amazing work!!
I LOVE this place! My third time visiting today. I drove about 20 miles to take a friend out to lunch there. Very good and interesting menu. Today I had a "Chicken Fried Steak Club Sandwich". It was excellent! Servers are attentive and friendly. The place is like a museum of interesting items that have been collected over the years. It serves consistently good food for breakfast and lunch. I highly-recommend Cricket's Country Kitchen.
It’s hard to find good homemade corned beef hash. This place does it just right! We have been coming here awhile now and it’s always clean, great service and yummy food.
Best waffle I have ever had TBH. Great service, everyone seemed nice. Enjoyed the old school atmosphere
Wow. This place had so much happening on the inside. So we were 5 people, seated immediately on a Saturday at lunch time. I had the grilled chicken club with extra grilled onions and a side of fries. My son had the teddy bear pancake. Other dishes that I saw at my table included biscuits and gravy with potatoes. I heard no complaints about the food and we all rather enjoyed the decor. They also had a guestbook to sign and a little treasure chest with toys for kids. The wait staff excellent even through there were many people and they didnt seem to mind about a 4 way split of the check.
The staff were so pleasant from the moment you walk and are greeted. I got seated really fast and my serve was so sweet. I ended up having the Chicken Fried Steak with white gravy and french toast and let me tell you, it did not disappoint at all. It was absolute perfection in every bite. Well worth the visit and definitely recommend it to anyone.
10/10 would recommend this restaurant. They do not miss! They have delicious breakfast, and the staff there are so nice. I like to order their omelettes they are bomb.com
Wonderful little whole in the wall. Amazing food and great service!! I ordered a biscuit and sausage gravy and it was so good. The hubby ordered the special, rib-eye, country potatoes, Eggs and a short stack. We cut the rib-eye with a butter knife. It was awesome!!! We will definitely be going back.
Cute, country with servers who have a southern accent. Food was good, service great. Definitely a find!
We go here quite often and everytime, we always get a warm welcome. The entire staff treats you like you're family. The atmosphere is amazing!
Nice cafe that has been around for a long time. Lots of parking. Quick, polite service. Coffee is always filled up and food is good. I thought the biscuits and gravy could use more seasoning, but adding pepper worked fine for me. My kids love locally and go here often and now I will too.
We did breakfast. So much food. All of it delicious. Also a lot! We ordered family style to share. Delicious country potatoes, 2-biscuits with gravy, side of ham and bacon, and fruit. All delicious. I suggest the 1-biscuit with gravy. Very shareable for two people. Large yummy biscuits.
Such a fun and sweet place!! Waitress was amazing! Food was perfect! Baby loved the train
The food was amazing! My friend and I went here simply on a whim because we had nothing better to do, and we were very pleasantly surprised. This place has a very cozy atmosphere and is a complete hidden gem. The food was delicious, fresh, and perfectly homemade. The service was quite quick and the servers were friendly as well. I'll gladly come back here again for breakfast or brunch.
This is the only place I am able to frequent regularly, I am incredibly picky when it comes to eating out and this restaurant has never failed me. Amy is the number one reason I continue to visit I have always been seated in her area the almost 4 years I’ve been coming and she is friendly and fun to see every time, my food always comes out right. The second reason I continue is the FOOD 🤤 it is the closest to my grandma’s cooking I have found and it touches my soul!
Fabulous as always! Awesome food, excellent atmosphere, it's like coming home!
I went here with my dad for a late breakfast for the first time and I can confidently say we will be coming back here for more than just breakfast! The staff were all very friendly and attentive, the food came out less than 10 minutes after ordering, and the food itself was very flavorful and at the perfect temperature! I got regular pancakes with eggs and bacon while my dad got a belgian waffle with eggs and bacon. I also got a side order of country potatoes and those were absolutely incredible! The other foods we got were on par with the potatoes! Everything was delicious and I will definitely come back here with friends and family!
This is my brother and I go to Place love the vibe in here. Everybody is super nice. The food and service is awesome. It gives you that old backcountry home feel
Very good homestyle cooking large portions friendly employees screens up and masks used for indoor dining. Not fancy but comfortable. Only thing is I like hash browns they only have fried potatoes. Also a side of them on small saucer was almost 5$. But ham steak was delicious and French toast. How bout some cinnamon and powdered sugar? But I had no problem eating lol. Enjoy and support.
Good prices, good service and if you have children it's a fun place to take them. Lots of stuff on the walls and one of the rooms has a little train running overhead.
My absolute favorite breakfast spot and the hospitality here is fantastic I've been coming here for over a decade service is great.
Went there for lunch with a coworker of mine. Had a wonderful experience! The decor is very unique, and the vibe is definitely there. Our server was super helpful and tended to our every need. We received our food within 10 mins of ordering. The food was homemade and super delicious. I'll be bringing the rest of my coworkers when I come again.
Coming here they greet you as you walk in. It's a popular place to bring a crowd or for 2 or just yourself. A fun treat for small children an adults as they eye a train set running around on top of the tables as you enjoy your meal. Fun decor an very unique from old time photos an license plates on walls an decor. Also afew mannequin dress for occasions. Friendly staff ready to take your order and chalkboard displaying their daily "Special" of the day. If never been to this restaurant, you will be coming again an tell others of this place for sure. I like their sourdough break which this place does sell it as well. I like that if you tell them its your first time being at this place , they "ring" a bell for you as a Welcome to the place with a fun shouts thru out the place. Tasty breakfast an lunch is served here.( sorry no alchohol) It's looks small outside but its cozy an roomy inside. Give this a place a change an see what you spot Inside that will get a chat talking from decors you see. But this closed on Mondays but all other days they are open 7am-2pm.
Absolutely love this place. Great food, attentive staff and wonderful atmosphere. Just discovered it recently. I will keep coming back and recommend it to everyone I know.
are you from the east coast and miss good southern food? are you reminiscing about the last time you had a decent piece of corn bread? if you answered yes to either of those questions, please GO HERE. this is the only place in all of california that has fantastic southern soul food and proper biscuits and gravy. not to mention how wonderful all of the sever are! this place truly feels like home without breaking the bank. thank me later!
This place is a lot of fun. It is very busy, but has an amazing atmosphere of history and a fun loving, adventurous nature. The story of this place can only be found on the menu, so I will leave it up to you to try this place out and learn its secrets! The food is amazing, the people are great, and the staff are energetic and helpful. This is one of the most unique places I have been in a very long time. I will most certainly be back.
I can't believe I never came here before. The ambiance is stellar, just like the service and the food. It was on Halloween and the place was decorated to win! I have already told two people about this place! We will be returning!
If you’re looking for a great place for breakfast or lunch Cricket Country Kitchen is a great choice. The country fried steak is the best. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The staff are always cheerful and welcoming. I would recommend the cricket country kitchen for your dining needs any day.
I absolutely loved this place. It reminded me of having breakfast with everyone that I have known or been around all my life. The whole place is very welcoming. Amazing for anyway of the week.
Found this place searching restaurants in the area on our way out of Sacramento. What a find it was!!!!! Not very likely anymore to come across a place like this …where the service & food are fantastic & the atmosphere is so so fun! We had a variety of breakfast items & they were all incredible! The waitress was top notch, you can tell she has waited tables for many years and knew exactly what she was doing, not to mention she leaves a coffee pot at your table, so you never go without:). We will definitely be back!!!
Eclectic Auburn boulevard is home to a restaurant from the heartland. Cricket is a homey country cafe with great food and fast, friendly service. A model train cruising the ceiling overhead, a coffee pot on your table, classic rock music playing in the background, and delicious food make this a spot to return to, again and again. Beware: it's easy to order too much. The portions are large. Biscuits and gravy? Some of the best in town! Enjoy your visit to Cricket...
The best place to go and eat... been going for years. Family owned. Attention to detail and taste. Great service and great food
Great food, friendly staff and eccentric decor. I come here for breakfast during the weekdays and there's no wait. Whenever I have family or friends visiting Sac I take them here and it's always an amazing experience. I usually get the Country Scramble or Rootie Hoop Potatoes, and share a plate of French toast with my table.
Let them know it’s your first time. Took my wife here for breakfast and it was great. the employees are nice and the food was good I got a turkey sausage patty and eggs with potatoes and sourdough toast it was flavorful and seasoned well. The turkey patty was huge. My wife got the biscuits and gravy with a sausage patty and scrambled eggs. They have a lot of decorations that just add to that classic country kitchen feel. They are the poster child of what your brain tells you a country kitchen is they have the food that fills you up and makes you feel good inside along with the decorative look and hospitality that you would hope for. All in all I would recommend just trying it out.
Excellent place for breakfast! Some of the best biscuits and gravy I’ve had in a long time! Would highly recommend
Cricket country kitchen is a family favorite and a Sacramento hidden gem. Every meal feels home made and warms not just the stomach, but also the heart. The biscuits and gravy are a must, but everything on the menu is amazing; you can’t go wrong! The eclectic decor and friendly staff are the cherry on top. We love cricket and are always looking forward to our next visit!
Staff is super friendly and make you feel like family. Food is good and large portions. Bring your appetite. My favorite is the blueberry pancakes and they put blueberries IN the pancakes, not on top.
This is one of the best brunch diners in the Sacramento area. I have been going here on a near weekly basis for years. The staff is incredibly friendly and the food is wonderful. In addition to the usual breakfast fare, I think their house potatoes, French fries, and garlic fries are well above their competitors. The interior of the restaurant has a unique theme that includes a model train running near the ceiling.
This is a fun place with a lot of eye candy. It looks like they've been collecting memorabilia for the last fifty years and the food's really good too
This is such a hidden gem in Sacramento. I highly recommend coming here. I try to when ever I am in town. Amazing food, good atmosphere and its a great deal dollar for dollar versus a lot of the other breakfast spots IMO. If you are tempted I highly recommend just going, you won't be disappointed.
Great place, even better staff! The food is reliably good; the portions are huge; the service is WAY BETTER & FASTER than anywhere I've ever been (and I'm a foodie!). My picky husband really liked the biscuits & gravy. He's ordered it at other restaurants & always thought it was bad. If you're looking for something sweet for breakfast, try the cinnamon bread french toast. All of their french toast uses Texas toast - super thick but light bread. The prices are super reasonable. This place isn't fancy, yet it has very amusing, eclectic decor. There's pictures of their regulars - current & past. They truly appreciate their customers. When you're here, you're family. Our waitress, Aimee, is the epitome of Southern charm & warmth. Everyone who works here is down-home wonderful. Cricket's is a place that you've just got to try. It'll remind you of the past, where servers took pride in their work; strangers are friendly; and the food was always good. Go... just go.
I've been coming here for 30 years and it's a true staple of my childhood and has some of the best quality food and service. I get the honor of bringing my children here for the amazing breakfast and of course the choo choo train that runs across the ceiling. 💗
Love you like biscuits & gravy! This place was my mom’s favorite place & she used to be a regular when i was a teen so it’s been awhile for me. Was in the area & decided to stop in. Now i know why it was her favorite place! The service top notch & soo friendly, breakfast was huge portions, pot of hot coffee, & the ambiance was amazing with even a little train up above on a track. Im a people watcher so it was fun watching all the “regulars” come in & instantly get greeted by name. I’ll definitely be coming back for those biscuits & gravy
I had my wife pick out a place to stop for breakfast on the way to Reno for the weekend, and Cricket Country Kitchen was what she came up with. No regrets! All the servers were super friendly. The menu states that the chicken fried steak is the best in the city. Lots of places claim this, so of course we had to give it a try.....and I have to say, it was probably the best one I've ever had. The gravy was on point, but the meat itself was just so tender and flavorful, and breaded perfectly. Pricing was great as well. We've definitely found a great breakfast option any time we're on the road.
A very cute, very old fashion style. Like stepping into a ranch house. Not the modern type at all which lots of people like that have grew up around the country life with chickens, etc would appreciate. Lots of old antique & unique things hanging all over like bull horns, ranch tools, kitchen tools, license plates, taxadermied animals, etc. Even has a neat little antique replica Union Pacific train that runs on a track hanging from the ceiling thats runs in a circle above about 6 booths.
Amazing place. I’ve got order bac Tom Turk omelet , it’s just so delicious, amazing. Very nice place to eat and to feel real American spirit. Great place. Very polite and nice staff working here. Amazing people. They even understand my terrible English dialect ))) anyway thank You so much for that amazing place. I wish You all great day :-)
This place is the PERFECT hole-in-the-wall breakfast food location. I mean the ambiance, the food, the teamwork amongst the staff...it just all adds up for the most amazing meal you will have. I got an omelet, my dad got Belgium waffle with basted eggs and bacon (the meal he always gets). He orders his bacon such that "if you dropped it, it would break". They nailed his order and mine was scrumptious. Their fruit and pumpkin pancakes were so great that I'd be remiss to not mention them. Pumpkin is their flavor or the month and those pancakes were such soft melt-in-your-mouth ones with just the right amount of pumpkin flavor. That fruit was so ripe and tasty! The staff works together so well it is seamless. The decor is so fun and they decorated for Halloween.
We haven't been there in ages, so we decided to check it out! 🚗💨 I pass by it every day on my work route, and it's always packed! 😱 When we arrived around 12:30, the place was packed! 😮 At first, we were discouraged and wanted to leave, but we decided to stick around and see what the hype was about. 🧐 Within 10 minutes, they called our names, and as soon as they seated us, they brought us our drinks and took our order. 🍹📝 Our food arrived within 15 minutes! The food was fresh and hot! 🔥 We ordered biscuits and gravy, and the chicken-fried steak (Mr. Huge, I believe it's called on the menu). The Buttermilk Biscuits were flaky and soft, and the chicken-fried steak was cooked to perfection! 🤤 The server was super friendly and awesome! 👍🏼 All in all, we had a great time and will definitely be coming back! 😋 #foodie #brunch #delicious #greatservice
Cricket's is a little hidden gem. We've been twice for breakfast and once for lunch and have never been disappointed. The food is fresh, prepared exactly as ordered and is served quickly. I'm a huge fan of the Grandma's French Toast. It's a cinnamon roll sliced in half and made into French toast. No syrup need for this one. I've heard good things about the biscuits and gravy. My hubby had them once and enjoyed them. There menu seems to highlight the gravy so it must be good.
Home run! A friend referred me here and cannot have been most happiest that we have this as our number one fave breakfast place now. Yolanda was the perfect one to have set the tone. Aggie the cook (14 years with this place) 🤌🏾 had our meal out in a blink of an eye and my dude said the chef knows how to make a medium rare steak. The best he’s ever had! The brew fresh coffee and bring the container to your table. Definitely recommended, parking in the back, dishes for vegans too!

Country-Fried Club Sandwich was much better than I expected. Their beer-battered fried were also a surprise and if there weren't so much I might have finished them... they're worth grabbing just as a side for your whole table. They get very busy and have a wait often but their staff is more than friendly.
About as local/dive-y as you can get. 100% authentic with a great staff, solid breakfast, and a must-see-to-believe decor. Food's ready in a flash. Free refills. 3.5% discount for cash. If you come during peak times be prepared to wait, but it's worth it. Tue-Fri lunch specials are crazy good deals.
A lovely, small, cosy n homely atmosphere .. group joined the que and didn't wait for long before we were shown to our table. Very friendly, quick and efficient service. Thoroughly enjoyed our Easter breakfast.. huge huge servings that we struggled through.. thank you. Will definitely return .
I fricken Love this place! Friendly staff, consistent quality, Great value, you won't leave hungry that's for sure! If you don't like trainsets rolling overhead, and folk art and quirky stuff everywhere you look well buck up! It's homage to 50+ years In same spot serving generations of families good food to grow on. Have a little fun and a lot of breakfast, check em out! Thanks for your time.
I went here early in the morning first people in. It’s a small but quaint little place that had some funny Christmas decor up. Booths are comfortable and have plexiglass separating them to feel safe from others. The help was top notch, not letting the coffee or water run out, I didn’t see the bottom of my cup once. The biscuits and gravy was very bland and didn’t have much sausage. I wouldn’t order it again. The bacon on the other was fabulous. I’d get just a whole plate of that. Some of the best I ever had. The omelette was also great chalked full of yummy ingredients.
The décor is fun and twisted for a breakfast restaurant. The waitress was cute and super helpful . Very attentive . The food was delicious . Order I ordered the ribeye medium rare but it didn’t come out that way. It was still very tasty. I ordered both fried and scrambled eggs. The fried eggs were cooked perfectly . The scrambled were made the lazy way on a griddled . They only scramble them in the bowl but poor them on a griddle and make a soufflé rather than truly scrambling them. It’s common restaurants that have a griddle. 20 bucks before I added avacado and extra eggs. 29 after. Every accommodation I asked for was given to me in the overall I really enjoyed it!
Rustic. Old school. Traditional. Greasy spoon. Looking for a spot to meet in the middle and this place popped up. It's an interesting spot that seems to have it's regular crowd. It's spaced into a few rooms with a train that goes by overhead. I spotted Rootie Hoop Potatoes on the menu and, having never had it, knew that I had to try their signature dish. It's an interesting dish. I would go back to Cricket Country Kitchen.
This place was interesting. The outside was dated the inside has a lot of decor to catch your eye. They play oldies which I like and their bathroom was clean big plus. I had grandma’s French toast it was delicious. The only reason I’m not giving it a 5 was because the bacon didn’t taste good. My partner had the biscuits and gravy he loved it. He ate it so fast I couldn’t get a picture.

Around 11 o'clock on Sunday, it was extremely busy and we had to wait about 20 minutes. The homemade potatoes are soft with a slightly distinctive flavour, so they might not suit those who prefer crispy ones. The coffee is very weak, so those particular about good coffee should be aware. As mentioned in several reviews, I agree some might find it bland, though it could also be considered healthier. Despite the busy service, the staff were very kind and all worked hard. The value for money is excellent. There are only booth seating areas, which should be reassuring for families with children. Cash payments seem to be slightly cheaper. Personally, I was satisfied.
This is a true no-frills, hole-in-the-wall gem. Don't come for the ambiance—the decor is dated and it's a bit dark—but absolutely come for the food. It's consistently clean, the staff is always pleasant, and the service is good. The real reason I'm a regular is the unbeatable combo of high-quality food and reasonable prices, especially compared to other places in the area. I always get the Cricket Breakfast and have never been disappointed."
This was my first experience at this Hidden home town restaurant. This service is Outstanding, This place is an old school vibe. Everyone working here is very polite. I'm sorry to say The food was only a 3 star. The chicken fried steak was fake patties. The gravy was not home made. I was slightly disappointed. I can understand the repeat customers because of the down home feeling and the wonderful service. I will be back to experience the dinner they offer.
Hole-in-the-wall restaurant. 11am on a Tuesday. no wait. Sarah took our order shortly after being seated. Decor was eclectic. I'm pretty sure I saw another customer dancing in his seat as he was …
Very interesting place. Our little family tried this place, none of us had anything bad to say about their breakfast. I can honestly say my chicken fried steak was one of the best I've had. But…
This place has the worst coffee I have ever had. The food is alright and the staff are nice enough, but you'd expect a place like this to get COFFEE right. It literally tastes like slightly caffeinated water, and even someone sensitive to caffeine like me didn't feel anything while drinking that stuff. Today I went with my grandmother, a woman who lives off of coffee, and she thought it was lousy as well. Was hoping for a hidden gem when checking this place out, but it's just an average restaurant with awful coffee.
The customer service and the food was good. The people were nice. The ambience was on point. The food was fresh. It didn't take long for us to get our meals and the prices were reasonable.

This place cool. Nice friendly people. Their chicken fried steak is delicious. They have an Eggnog waffle that comes out during the holiday season that is Wonderful.

Hostess was super polite and helpful... Can't speak highly for anything else. Decor was fun.
I had high expectations after reading the earlier reviews and my expectations were further bolstered when I saw the crowd of people trying to get in to eat. That’s about where my high expectations ended. I ordered your basic eggs and bacon and neither appeared freshly cooked and made to order. The bacon was thick cut but very old tasting like it had been sitting around in a bin or something and not cooked when I ordered and the same for the eggs. I have no intention on returning to see if it was just a bad day for them.
Everything was great until they asked us to leave because people were waiting to be seated.\n\nAs I was leaving, noticed no one was in lobby area waiting for a seat. \n\nI guess I won't be back
Its like eating old grease no flavor. Service slow. Taste like antique cardboard box food. price too high for plates
Definite second class service from the staff with outward rudeness to my friend who happens to be Black
Definite second class service from the staff with outward rudeness to my friend who happens to be Black
Took my daughter here today total came out to $32.28 paid with a $50 bill told them I just needed $10 back. Well as you can see the top $10 is hella fake so pretty much spent $50 on breakfast for me and my 8 year old. Didn’t realize it was a fake bill till I went to use it at the store and it turned in to a big thing with the store staff and the manager. So freaking embarrassing!! The breakfast was good but not worth the headache that came from this experience. The hostess, waitress and other staff was super nice but they need to have better money intake protocols because this was extremely embarrassing!! My daughter was extremely upset about this experience.
Since around the late 70s, I had gone here several days a week for about 35 years. When they changed ownership, I tried it twice but prices had gone up and food was not as good. Haven’t gone for a couple of years but, since I live a mile away, tried it again. My girlfriend stopped to get gas and I showed up. She literally was five minutes behind. I walked in to less than a half full restaurant. They lady said I could not be seated until my gf showed. First, it was half empty, second she was five minutes behind me, lastly I like to get my first cup of coffee anyway before she gets there. Actually, most days I will actually show up 20 min early so I can enjoy a cup or two. In any event, I understand them not wanting to seat a large party but one person takes up a table just as much as two! Bacon was greasy and not tasty. Potatoes had been sitting for some time, then my gfs eggs had a hair in them. Doubt I will show up here again. I am honestly sad to say that but this is in them.
