Opinions de Thai Basil Sacramento
Cute small restaurant with plants and amazing decor. The service and atmosphere was great. And my food was delicious and fairly priced.
The guys who cook at nights on Wednesday does not have good quality control, sometimes it’s too much milk other times it’s not enough milk and other times has no flavor and only taste like coconut milk …. I’ve grown to know who cooks better there and go when they are cooking because I know it will amazing. Today’s cook was disappointing :( The best yellow curry I’ve had in Sacramento. Full of flavor, I could drink the soup alone. Amazing !!! I have no words. Absolutely breathtakingly good.
The environment was clean and quiet. My family and I had a good time there since we could sit comfortably and have adequate privacy to chat. The waitress was friendly and patient. The restroom, what I care most, was clean. LOL. We ordered Green and Yellow curry, and we gladly ordered rice for the curry. Please don't miss the rice; otherwise you will regret not having it. Fried rice was awesome, and I mean it as being a person of having fried rice background culturally. Don't forget to go next door, Ginger Elizabeth, for dessert.
I really liked the food here! Came out quick and our waiter was awesome. We came our labor day and there was one guy running the entire floor. He was doing an amazing job. We got the Pad Ki Mow and the chicken skewers. Our food was very fresh and very tasty!
Quality and freshness are expressed through the food here at Thai Basil. The prices are high compared to other spots but the food is very tasty. It’s clean and delicious and not oily for Thai food. You get a nice taste of umami and I’ll keep returning to eat here.
I really like this place (I had it mixed up with the place upstairs Veg Cafe but they are both really good). I have been here several times over the past few years and I went back recently. They have a fairly diverse menu with vegan options. (Check out their menu). They have a “seasonal menu” that changes from time to time. The service was really good and the atmosphere is nice. You can adjust pretty much anything as far as gluten free, vegetarian or vegan options. Most of the entrees and items are Thai types so lots of noodles and rice. If you’re vegan or vegetarian and like Thai food I would recommend this place 100%.
I love it so much here. The people here took such good care of me and I was really the only one here in the restaurant after one table left but it was good because I got to charge up my laptop and my phone it was two tables here next to outlets and the lady here so sweet. Now, that mushroom dish amazing the fried mushrooms here I couldn't even finish it played it with so much and it was really delicious. Let me explain. You know how you've been to a million restaurants and they have fried mushrooms on the menu and it's just those regular tiny small white mushrooms maybe they're cut in half. And you know when it's done good it's a really good okay thing to order. The mushrooms here are way more better than that and they're so substantial the flavors are delectable you can taste the smokiness the crispiness in the peppers and everything man it's so good I'm going to come back.
Tucked away in Midtown Sacramento is an absolute gem of a Thai restaurant that hits every note just right. We were lucky enough to have Reesie as our server—she was friendly, informative, and made the experience even more enjoyable. I had the Pad See Ew—perfectly wok-fried flat rice noodles with tender chicken, broccoli florets, and egg in a rich sweet soy sauce. The noodles were cooked to perfection: soft yet chewy with that unmistakable smoky flavor you only get from a hot wok. This dish hit the spot—sweet, savory, comforting, and deeply satisfying. We also shared the Krapow Kaidow Bento Box—a street food-inspired lunch featuring minced chicken sautéed in spicy garlic soy sauce with green beans, peppers, Thai basil, and topped with a crispy fried egg. It came with salad, blanched veggies, rice, and an appetizer. Everything was incredibly fresh—from the jasmine rice to the crisp vegetables. You can tell there’s real care and skill behind the scenes in the kitchen. And yes, I did a little deep dive on the hot sauces too! They’ve got the usual red chili Sriracha-style sauce, a tangy red pepper blend, and my favorite: the house fish sauce with chopped fresh Thai chilis, garlic, and maybe a hint of soy and ginger—classic Southeast Asian flavor bomb. We sat outside, and on a beautiful day like today, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy your meal. The patio is peaceful and dog-friendly—they even had water bowls out for the pups. I’m not sure what it’s like on a rainy day, but when the sun’s shining, this place is a real vibe. #MidtownSacEats #ThaiFoodLove #FoodieFinds #SacramentoEats #PadSeeEw #BentoBoxBliss #SupportLocal #DogFriendlyDining #OutdoorVibes #WokThisWay #FreshAndFlavorful
You're walking up and ypur eye catches the green paint of the building. There are tables inside and out. If you're going for dinner, highly recommend getting there at 5 or soon after. It fills up very quickly. The menu is extensive and there is a vegan only menu as well. Wow oh wow, blown away by all the dishes we ordered. We went for the Vegan chef challenge. Yum yum. Everything thing is good, just have to close your eyes and pick if you can't pick. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.
Service is great. Food was great, and a lot of dishes coming out of the kitchen looked amazing. Lots of vegetables and great colors. Portions of main entrees are a bit small for the price, but the flavor is good. Pad-thai is a bit on the sour side. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. They have lunch specials. Parking on J St is paid parking Mon-Sat, but you can usually find free parking on the numbered streets.
Really nice vegan menu and vegan specials. The atmosphere is nice when it’s not super packed, but it can get loud when it fills up. I couldn’t decide what to choose from the vegan specials but I finally settled on the pumpkin and avocado green curry and it did not disappoint. A great blend of flavors. The tofu satay is the best I’ve ever had, I’ll be dreaming about it for days. Highly recommend this place.
This is literally my favorite Thai spot for probably 20 miles. I come here often, bring my dogs, friends, etc. and have never had bad service. I just looked up their page and was surprised to read some of these reviews... The taste is excellent, they accommodate allergies, they are very consistent, I've never had any problems with service.. and there's almost never a wait. To me, this is a gem in Sacramento!
Had a great time at Thai Basil. It was my first time and I thought the menu had a nice blend of Thai staples, but also a pretty impressive specials list. I had salmon cakes, and they were much tastier than I was expecting. I had the fried rolls, too, which come with a nice sauce, and I tried the mango sticky rice and fried banana with ube ice cream for dessert. The portion sizes were reasonable and the price and service on point! I'll definitely go back.
Outwardly this is a small restaurant but staffed with eager to please and friendly staff ensures that you go back home with pleasant memories and savoring the after taste of one savory meal. We had a good evening here. The food was good and the Drunken Noodles was maybe the best of the food we ordered. Though Thai cuisine isn't really our family's idea for a family dinner - the evening was well spent, the food was spiced right and arrived in reasonable time after ordering. The decor of the restaurant is worth the visit as well and kind of transports you to Thailand or South East Asia in general.
Upon entering we were told to seat ourselves where we pleased. This place is so quaint and clean. Our server Erick was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and suggestions. We ordered Calamari as an appetizer and our entree were the Salad Bai Yok Chicken & Kow Pad just egg and beef. The food was served heat hot and the taste was so flavorful & fresh with both orders. We will be back

Absolutely delicious! The tofu satay skewers blew me away, SO good with the peanut sauce and cucumber salad. The ube cheesecake was also incredible! So many yummy options, we can't wait to come back , HIGHLY recommend.
Fantastic experience here. Our servers were lovely, the food was delicious, and sitting on the little patio just off J Street was the exact right vibe for a warm fall evening. The tamarind tofu special was unique and so so so good.
Very nice plating but mediocre food. Flavors didn't quite mesh together. Drinks (thai tea + coffee) were also too sweet and bland, tasting mostly of sugar. Restaurant can feel a little cramped, but vibes were otherwise acceptable. Would only come back for the vegan options, everything else was unimpressive.

The building and atmosphere is great. The decor is on par for a Thai restaurant. The food was mid. First of all I ordered a medium spice pad thai that is kind of dry. Usually when I order a medium spice my lips are burning with a nice friendly tingle. That's my usual go-to order and it was a little wet. Secondly the tofu was not fried so it didn't give that exciting texture. And where was the egg.? Thirdly for the extra $3 that they charge you to put chicken on it it was less than 2 oz of chicken meat. On top of the fact that they can justify a high price because of where they're at. They're better Thai places around here. If you like bland Thai food this is right up your alley. Now listen I travel for work and every city I go to I try at least one Thai restaurant and I always get the same exact dish. So far from end of 2024 to 2026 I've been to at least 20 different Thai restaurants up and down the highway 5 and highway 99 corridor.. The last place I went to this friendly little place in Madera California My bill was only $37. Here my bill was $50 including the tip. Usually when I go and buy pad Thai there is food left over to take home. You guys are being cheap put more food on the plate. Y'all dropped the ball

This review is for the food as I got it to-go. The yellow curry was oily like butter chicken from an Indian restaurant and did not have any flavor. I eat yellow curry regularly and this is the most unappealing kind I have ever had. I also ordered medium spice and there was none at all. The Thai coffee was good, I do recommend that, but that's not what I came for. They could also provide you with more rice for the price you are paying. To each their own but I do not think I would come back for the food.
I ordered a papaya salad to go for about $15 and asked for medium spice. It had zero spice and the portion was ridiculously small. The papaya itself tasted old and watery, with a sour, off smell that made it inedible. When I called to ask for a refund or a remake and offered to bring the food and receipt back, the owner was extremely rude. She was short, kept cutting me off, and refused to help in any way. She showed no concern for the quality of the food or the experience. The food was gross and not safe to eat, and the customer service was unacceptable. I will never order from this place again and strongly recommend avoiding it.

I ordered take out and when I called to ask if the food was delivered- the staff told me they had no idea and too bad. I have never received such horrible and rude customer service. Shocking!
