I’ve been trying to eat healthier and when I chose the Panama curry with veggies I was assuming it would just be a little bit of veggies in the curry like normally happens. OMG there were so many veggies and it was delicious. I also got the fresh spring rolls and they were equally amazing. Jules or Jewels was my server and loved him, had great recommendations and advice.
I picked up takeout tonight for Dine Out for Life, and it was easy and delicious while supporting a fantastic cause! I'm a baby when it comes to spice so I got a level one spice on #61b Thai Noodle with Lemongrass and shrimp and it was the perfect amount of spice, any more and I would have steam coming out my ears. I picked up spring rolls and other dishes to share but only got to try mine! It all looked fantastic!
I had the Sarong Sawatdee Special and the Fisherman’s delight. The appetizer Sarong Sawatdee Special was fun, new to me, and delicious. Seafood and veggies were fresh and not frozen in the fisherman’s delight. I’d highly recommend it. Sarong Sawatdee Special (#6) 10 Formerly reserved for royalty in Thalland. Seasoned chicken wrapped in fine crispy noodles & deep fried. Four per serving. Fisherman's Delight (#sp5) 26 Shrimp, scallops & squid stir-fried with spicy red curry. Served with steamed vegetables.
Sawatdee is a must-go in St Paul for any Thai food fan. We’ve been going there for years, and it’s delicious every time! Their Pad Thai is fantastic every time - but it’s very spicy. The soups are great, especially the rice noodle soup. I asked for extra bean sprouts and they absolutely delivered. The crispy spring rolls are so delicious we got a second order! Juan is an awesome server! Gotta go here.
I lived in Thailand for a few months, and this is my favorite Thai food! The crispy spring rolls, Pad Thai, Supenn’s Thai style pasta-the best! Our waiter Juan was super attentive and fun to chat with.
Delicious! I ordered takeout Sawatdee Saint Paul’s Songkla Calamari, Veggie Rice Noodle Soup - Pho, Coconut Shrimp, Fisherman’s Delight [Spice level 5]. Their breading on the calamari and shrimp was thick and reminded me of a donut due to it’s sweetness! Their highest spice level (5) isn’t very hot. The Fisherman’s Delight is exactly what it’s name is, delightful! Overall, their food is filling and flavorful!
This place was awesome. The food was great and the atmosphere was really nice. The family and I will definitely be going back.
We were stuck downtown working at lunch and needed a place to eat. My boy Timmy, ordered the catfish and a beer. I got the tofu laap, and a tall glass of Ho2. The laap had excellent flavor, and the catfish was very good. Great service. Thank you.
Thank you for the BEST Valentine's Day dinner! Great service, staff and food! Definitely will be back!
It is Wonderful, service excellent food amazing. Pot stickers, deep fried great texture a little crunchy, coconut shrimp large coating tasty, green curry with pork, ginger stir fry, crystal noodle salad with shrimp, wife says best salad she has EVER had. It was all GREAT
American style, mid size Thai restaurant with a great range of ethnic dishes. There's also a bar serving wines and so on, with fast friendly service. I ordered Massaman curry with potatoes and peanuts. Hearty, tasty flavorful, priced on the higher end.
A pillar of the St. Paul community, Sawatdee has been the best Thai restaurant in town for decades. The papaya salad is the perfect fresh lunch option. Chicken Pad Thai and the fried spring rolls are classic, can’t be beat.
Food is awesome. Service is wonderful😀. Tom yum soup and fisherman’s delight were delicious and spice is just right.
Interesting experience and a roller coaster ride of emotions which finally was rounded with some amazing Tom yum, Rama curry and great service
Construction in St. Paul had google confused as hell, but we made it. It's a perfect spot for pre History Theater dinner. The staff was amazing, and the food was as terrific, as I remember from my daily lunches at the Minneapolis location. It's was great to find out the same flavors transferred here. I'll be back!!
Their online menu is labeled with gluten free options, that alone deserves is a 5-star rating! So many restaurants don't do this and we are thankful they took the time to do so. When we order, there is no hassle of asking about if a dish is gluten free or if they can modify it for our dietary needs! Also, the food tastes amazing!
This is the real deal. Excellent and friendly service. The food was very good and the heat level was right on. Visited with 2 little boys and they were very accommodating.
Ordered it a few times now and its been amazing! Best asian restaurant in town!
Sawatdee and their recipes have always been enjoyable. This location had friendly staff that gave epic service. Their options are also plentiful and weren't restricting for those in my party that had restrictive diets. I'd definitely return again! Thanks much to the crew and all they do to serve the community.
Our Server Jools was amazing! Great service all around. Food was good. We had a great time.
The panang curry and red curry are always amazing even as a take out. Lots of flavor, good spice levels, and generous amount of beans in the panang. I usually get the panang with tofu! Sometimes I wish there was more tofu, but it’s still really tasty overall. The pot stickers are good, too!
The service was incredible and the Thai for Two on Tuesday's was a fabulous deal. Our server was kind and checked in the perfect amount. The food was really good. The unfried spring roll was so good! I want to go back and order a whole plate of those. I had the Dirty Shrimp, which was a bit strange and not a lot of edible food other than the shrimp itself. The flavor was wonderful though and I loved the sauce with rice. My daughter ordered the scallops and shrimp dish and that was so yummy! I would definitely come back to experience other dishes.
The curry had an amazing flavor. We had a large party and I was a little disappointed that our food came out at all different times but they did have noted that they were short staffed and at least the food was fresh when it got to the table. I definitely plan to go back to try more dishes.
My party had the My Thai and Monkey Lover cocktails. Both were strong and sweet, the Monkey Lover was our preferred of the two, which had a milder and smoother taste. We had the fried vegetarian spring rolls for an appetizer. They came out hot and crispy with everything you’d expect in a fried spring roll. For entrees, we had the Thai fried rice with chicken and an add-on of basil, the vegetable red curry without bamboo shoots, and the Rad Naa with chicken. We asked for the first two dishes to be at a spice level three and the third dish to be at a spice level of four. The food wasn’t spicy at all but came out fairly quickly. The red curry was good. The fried rice was rather oily and a bit bland. The Rad Naa comes with American broccoli as opposed to Chinese broccoli. I had never seen Rad Naa server in a soup bowl before, but there was definitely a lot of sauce that was fairly salty and one-note. However, the noodles were cooked well and had a pleasant texture. We came on Christmas Eve and were fortunate to have excellent service.
Ordered the isaan set. The papaya salad was good but too sweet even with mild chili's and overload of peanuts which made it taste nutty.. The beef a bit tough and could be marinated to soften it. The sticky rice was good. The service was excellent. Thank you
This is a hole in the wall recommended by Marriott and boy was I happy. Amazing service, great food with amazing flavor. Best Pad Thai I've had in a long time. Also tried the chicken satay. And for dessert, sticky rice, never tried it before. Now a fan.
It was okay. We went for a quick bite and drink during happy hour. The fresh spring rolls were good. We also order the deep fried calamari, but I didnt like it. The meat just slides out of the breading. I would've liked it breaded and seasoned differently coming from a Thai restaurant. Service was good. $4 happy hour appetizers.
A little more money for their food but worth it! Freshly made (you can hear the wok at work) with a good spicy level-ranging from 1 pepper to a 5 peppers. I like a little heat so I usually pick 2-3 pepper spice level-which is plenty of hotness for me! Good tap brew choices to cool down your palate too!
uuuuuuuugh fried rice slightly salty n pork tough as fabric sticky rice was damn near like silly puddy massamun curry dish was unflavored
Had the pad Thai and it was great, I appreciate the quick service and the fresh meal. Reasonable price and friendly staff.
Garlic here is the real deal. Spicy level 3 was a bit too hot. Service was great, but the blinds and floors were dirty -not enough to keep me away, though.
Wonderful Thai food. Pad Thai is delicious. A big menu that your entire family can find something they like!
The potstickers were cold when they brought them out and they forgot to put shrimp in my chicken and shrimp dish and then instead of making the dish over they they just brought me a bowl of shrimp out which was fine. I guess the waiter was super nice but I don't know if I would go back after that experience honestly and it's strange because I've always had a good experience In the past
Friendly waiter. Food was decent. Very small amount of food for $45. Plum wine was really good (very sweet). Cheesecake was $8 even tho it didn't come with the mango as advertised. Could have made a whole cake for that price at home. Appetizer for 2 had 6 small items as shown.
I ordered the Panang curry for take out and although the flavor is good, they LOADED it with green beans and literally less than half of it was sauce. They should call the dish “Panang Green Beans”. The sauce is the best part! Super bummed and probably will go elsewhere for my curry.
The beef jerky and sticky rice was tasty even though the beef jerky is a little on the thick side. The lemon grass noodles were not good it was just full of unnecessary onions and carrots and barely any noodles. The noodles were also very broken up and there were really hard pieces of lemon grass. It's really hard to find a good Thai place. This place was just ok.
I ordered through DoorDash- never actually visited this restaurant so just reviewing the food This is my third time eating food from here, and I am very unimpressed. When I eat Thai food I actually expect to taste my food- however this was very bland and almost flavorless. I ordered the chicken pad Thai medium spice and I couldn’t taste any spice or flavor other than the peanuts, lemon and chicken. I ordered curry from this place roughly 6 or 7 years ago and had the same issue with it being flavorless.
Some of the worst Thai food I’ve ever had. There was 3 of us eating, the other two said their food was ok. I tasted theirs and I would say “ok” was accurate. I ordered tom Kah and it had zero flavor and the milk was curdled, I’m not exaggerating. 15 minutes later I finally was able to flag down the waitress (who was very sweet, just not very attentive), and I decided to swap for green curry to go since the others were done. It has giant chunks of random chicken in it, I’m kind of picky with chicken but seriously this looks like a rotisserie chicken threw up in it. The flavor is just ok, but the consistency is so off. I’m looking at it right now and there’s 1/4 inch of oil that’s separated on top. Long story short; I don’t recommend.
Let me start off by saying that I've been to other Sawatdee locations in Minneapolis and Bloomington, and my experiences there have always been delightful. That being said, I do not know what's going on at the Saint Paul location. I've gotten takeout from here a few times and the hosts sometimes have unfriendly/annoyed vibes; the host tonight here was okay. I got the pad thai and the fresh spring rolls. Took them home and discovered that not only were the rolls full of questionable produce, saw that they were BOTH torn. Massively. As in, I have no idea how this got out of the kitchen, and put in a bag. For $30 worth of food, is it too much to ask for my spring rolls to not have giant rolls in them?
Got the Pad See Yew as it's a favorite of mine. Sadly here I took maybe 4 or 5 bites and was not able to eat more of it. There was almost zero flavor. Felt like I was eating over boiled chicken with plain noodles. The noodles were under cooked and drenched in a flavorless sauce. I ordered a spice level 4 and there was almost zero spice on it. I'm used to authentic Thai food making me sweat a bit, where as this I feel like I could feed to my 4 year old nephew. My coworker got the Pad Thai and had similar complaints. This is the closest Thai restaurant to my office so a little disappointed. But with the amount of Thai restraints in the cities don't think I'll be coming back here. From looking at the reviews, I'm probably not the target demographic for this restaurant. Update: I didn't want to just throw away 17 bucks, so when I got home I threw it in the wok and added some fish sauce and Thai pepper flakes. 1000% better.
I had the green curry. They gave me frozen peas and carrots in my curry. Flavor was still good but this is not to standard. I am put off by this.
My friend and I decided to go here for lunch. We both ordered pho and wished that we didn't. The broth didn't have your aromatics in it so it just wasn't great. The noodles they use seem to be pad thai noodles, not your average pho noodles. The resturant is super cute though. Their lunch buffet looked super appetizing, we wish we did that instead. If you go here, I strongly reccomend you skip out on the pho and try their other foods. Service is super good!
This was the worst food experience I’ve had in a while. The vegetarian spring rolls were stuffed with flavorless iceberg lettuce, noodle mush, and about 2 tiny shreds of carrot. Extremely disappointing. Try putting fresh cucumber and carrot and herbs and make it worth the purchase. The staff was very nice but the food was really bad and so overpriced for what was received.
We ordered to go. The pad thai was full of oil. We ordered mild spice and it was too spicy to eat. The pad see yew was ordered with no spice at all. was borderline crunchy and spicier than my level 2 spice pad thai. I've eaten many Thai places it is my favorite food ever. This was horrible. Our check out guy was kind bubbly and absolutely wonderful. But after this second time of disappointing food I cannot recommend this place. It breaks my heart as the staff is so so so kind and amazing all around.
I've never been so disappointed in Thai food in the many years I have eaten it. I used to pick up orders there for a delivery service and always wanted to try it. Well, tonight I did. The Pho was only flavored with salt, and the shrimp were tiny, rubbery, and pre frozen. There were only sprouts and basil with two slices of Jalepeno for the veggies. Lemon was used and not Lime for the garnishing to add. The Pad See Ew was as basic as it comes. I would never pay for that food again. Save yourself the trouble and don't go. The 4 stars that I did give is because it's a place you would want to be if the food actually tasted good.
this was the worst pad see ew I’ve ever tasted and I’m not even kidding. maybe they didn’t feel like cooking because there was absolutely nobody in the restaurant but my $20 meal was definitely thrown together. tasted like honey noodles with meat so tough, it’s basically jerky.
I don't think I've ever thrown away take out food or written a negative food review before, but here we go. Maybe it's an off night for them... I travel constantly and I've had my favorite dish pad see ew at well over 50 restaurants. This was exceptionally different, and worse. The noodles they are using are awful and thin, not wide, tender, and stretchy. (Not even sure they are rice noodles... they look and feel more like a dehydrated fettucine.) The noodles were also undercooked, stained (not coated), and looked like they never saw a wok or a flame, no charring. Ordered 5/5 spicy and it's just not hot. I can't taste or see any Thai chillies, the only flavor here is black pepper. The sauce was super thin and flavorless, was only mildly sweet, and did not taste like any kind of soy sauce. The fried tofu was flavorless and overcooked. The broccoli also never saw a flame or hot surface, looks and tastes like it was boiled or steamed. The small amount of egg present was cooked fine, but soggy from the large amount of black pepper water. I'm certainly not an expert in making Thai food, but I think the restaurant could source better rice noodles, use Thai chillies instead of black pepper, marinate their tofu, fry their tofu for less time, thicken and adjust their sauce recipe, and use a hot hot hot wok to cook and char the noodles, broccoli, tofu, and egg. I'm going to try to finish the broccoli and toss the rest. Disappointing for such a simple dish. $16.50 after tax. Edit: On first glance the reviews for this restaurant seemed pretty positive so I thought my experience was isolated, but scrolling through them I see now that they are overwhelmingly negative and have been for some time. Something suspicious is going on with their total star rating which is not consistent with the actual reviews. And, this restaurant is doing nothing in response to the feedback provided. Their food is bad and they don't care.
Service was acceptable if I'm talking of the waiter. Kitchen was slow and separate and somewhat unattentive. Food left much to be desired but then again I did get advice on what was good.
Me and my girlfriend (both obviously asian) were harassed by two white males coming out from Camp bar while walking to the restaurant before even coming into the restaurant. This is literally next door. They were sexually harassing my girlfriend and tried to start a fight with me until the people from the clothes business on front interfered. We obviously left, absolutely disgusting racist behavior. Shame, we just moved to the new lofts a few blocks away and heard good things but this is a totally unsafe, cesspool corner of saint paul. STAY AWAY
I’ve been coming to Sawatdee for years, and it honestly makes me sad to write this because the food used to be so good. Back in the day, their fried rice was hands down some of the best in the Twin Cities, but over time the quality has really gone downhill. It got to the point where I stopped ordering it altogether. The only reason I’ve gone back recently is because I usually receive a birthday coupon, so I decided to give it another try and ordered Pad Thai for pickup. Unfortunately, it was probably the worst Pad Thai I’ve ever had. I’ve ordered this dish here before and it never tasted like this. I tried to eat it, but it was so off that I ended up throwing the entire bowl away. Even the small amount I did eat gave me an upset stomach, which was really disappointing. I truly hope the restaurant can get back to the quality it used to have, because it was once really amazing.
